did you receive that via email?

Yep.

Honestly, it's hard to tell whether it's an acknowledgement of my request or a dismissal of it. I suspect the latter though.

We'll see...

don't joke let me call throw the phone man

What did you said exactly?

No joke, honest, I have a SR number and everything :P

I just went through the usual way:
press 1 for English
press 1 for immigration information
press 1 for case status
press 1 for 'if you know your receipt number'
enter case number and listen to status
press 3 to report problem and connect to human

Then go through the blurb with the agent, case number (again), listen to status (again).
When they ask you if you've called about this problem before, say "Yes, I was told to call back in a few weeks which is what I'm doing now".
Then say the problem is that your case is a month over processing timeframe and you'd like to place a service request (ask for it by name).
The agent should read a script about how they are going to help you check whether you're really outside of timeframe (ha!) and then they should put the SR in for you (lots of data collection, name, address, phone, email). Make sure you write down the SR confirmation number.

[edit to fix menu sequence :P]

Too late to edit previous post but...

SUCCESS! Service request entered

She didn't tell me what the current processing date was but it must be on or after Feb 22nd (my NOA1 date). Looking up the list, lots of us should now be able to file service requests without any silly games about dates:

SHERU, COLOSO, LUCCA, ANGEL4EVER, LDORA, SLIM2240, AJ911 and IMPERFCTBIRD all have NOA1 dates between the 14th and the 22nd.

And possibly those with later dates too???

Out of curiosity, has anybody phoned them in the past week or so and gotten a new 'currently processing' date for VSC? Still waiting....... Growing impatient :P

I'll call them tomorrow and if I get the same bovine byproduct about Feb 14th, I'll be demanding a higher-up and trying my luck with them...

I think that there is a big misconception with the Email system from USCIS, They should have an info message that states,

We have recieved your application and it is being reviewed/investigated, if we need something from you we will contact you by Email/Text/Mail otherwise the next contact will be informing you of the outcome Approved/Denied

Some filers seem to expect weekly type updates(not going to happen)

Agreed! I think that they should also state that their system is unreliable and some people may not get updates in a timely manner or even at all :P but I doubt they'll do that

Also have u tried calling? It's been more than 6 months and you are past the "processing the 14th NOAs" the minInfoline have been rebutting.

That's a good point - your NOA1 date is the 'right' side of the line so call them up and firmly ask for a service request (by 'firmly', I mean don't take no for an answer )

Just have the receipt number that's on your extension letter on hand....

Well I've been approved since the 25th of August and yet still no card. I wonder what is the difference between people being approved and receiving their card within a week and us still waiting 2weeks and counting lol.

Labor Day, probably - slows the mail down, government workers get a day off, causes a small backlog which takes a few days to clear again.

Also, where is the card production facility? If they're done in-house at Vermont or anywhere in New England, perhaps they're down on staff, power or have any number of other problems post-Irene?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 February 2011 Filers

The said the SAME thing to me last week when I called.
They didn't put in a service request. They told me to call again in 30 days *rolls eyes*

Congratulations to all the approvals! Hopefully I will be joining you soon!!!

Just got off the phone with the misinfo line. Same story, currently processing Feb 14th, no SR despite being over the official six-month timeframe. Very polite and checked with her 'supervisor' apparently but still fobbed me off. This is what I was told:

  • I-751 tracking data is kept in a separate database from the rest of the cases. Goodness only knows why but perhaps that explains the two receipt numbers thing. She needed both numbers from me to get the case status.
  • VSC (and CSC I assume) maintain a record of the date that they're currently up to with processing I-751s and make it available to the misinfo line agents. This is the mythical February 14th that we keep getting told about. The agent said that service centers are supposed to update that date several times a month. I mentioned that I know that VSC haven't updated their processing date for quite some time. She didn't comment but suggested that maybe it will be updated soon and to call back in a few days.
  • Until your NOA1 date is behind the mythical date, you cannot file a service request. That lots of us have been told exactly the same thing suggests this is policy rather than the customer service agents' prerogative and the likelihood of getting around it is slim.

So basically VSC have us over a barrel. By not updating their processing date, VSC can keep all of us whose NOA1 dates are ahead of Feb 14th waiting for as long as they want and there's no opportunity for a service request. That's a pretty dirty trick, IMO. If this goes on much longer, I'm going to go congressional on their asses

So that was just over a week from request to approval? I'm minded to file one tomorrow morning, I think...

Does anyone know if USCIS normally send a receipt for more supporting evidence?

nope received nothing...does anyone know if we get a receipt of receiving supporting docs?

If you mean a paper receipt, like an NOA or something then unless things have changed since AOS, no, you don't. You might (and I stress the "might"!) get an email from case status online that processing has resumed. I got two RFEs during AOS and got an email for the first one and didn't get one for the second. I cannot begin to tell you how stressed out I got about that! (case status got 'stuck' on RFE sent as the deadline for responding came and went...)

If you've got proof of delivery from the USPS or whatever, that's probably about as good as you're gonna get...

I would take the "didn't receive anything but the 751" to mean they don't think you included enough evidence, things like co-mingling of funds, credit card statements across the entire period, etc.

I agree - you should probably start gathering anything that ties the two of you together from around GC issuance to now and send them as much stuff as possible.

we'd included

- our son's birth certificate
- apt lease with both our names
- Tax return 2010 .... or should we send them 2009 and 2011 too, any suggestion?

You can't get a 2011 return yet so you'd want to send them the returns for 2010, 2009 and 2008 (if you were both on it). Also consider including IRS transcripts if you have time to get them (takes 5-10 days, see here).

Other stuff to include in addition to what MsZ mentioned:
- Copies of drivers licenses showing you both at the same address.
- Copies of health/car/etc insurance policy cards where both of you are named.
- Baby photos, vacation photos, Christmas/Thanksgiving photos, etc, etc.
- Copies of anything document that lists either of you as a beneficiary or next of kin for the other.

Flood them with as much substantive documentation as possible.

I called....The CSR told me that VSC is backed up. She also said that as of Friday VSC recorded that they processed up to the date 2/14

I'd take that date with a pinch of salt. So far there are 11 people in the VSC list who have been approved with NOA1 dates after 2/14... There's one approved March VSC filer too...

For the rest of us Feb filers, how long do you guys plan to wait before calling USCIS for a service request? Their website itself says if your case is outside processing time, please call them. Thanks and good luck!

I'm past processing timeframe as of today and am pondering the same thing to be honest.

It's tempting to get right on the phone and hassle them but on the other hand, the way cases are going here lately suggests that VSC are working through the February cases right now so maybe getting the case pulled for a service request might actually not be beneficial? For all I know, my file might be right on the top of the pile... It's a gamble either way, I suppose.

How do I even get to talk to a person?

I haven't done this since AOS days but you used to be able to select the option for "I have a question about a request for evidence" or similar. That got me a real person a couple of times. I think it was known as the "RFE trick" and I don't know if it still works or not...

How do i get to a level 2 officer. I spoke to the postmaster and she said according to the law if mail is unclaimed for more than 10 days they have the right to send it back to sender as unclaimed. Anyways, do you guys recommend I call them up, and how do i get to a level 2 officer? Thanks

Once you get them on the phone, ask for your call to be escalated. They might not do it the first time you ask but if you're firm with them that you want to be escalated, they have to do it, I believe. Either that or ask them your question in a complex way that they won't be able to answer, then they'll have no choice  Expect a long hold time for the 2nd level officer, though. Especially just after a weekend.

*makes a note to tell the mail lady if we ever go on vacation for more than 10 days :P

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 February 2011 Filers

Hi everyone:
Been waiting for the email or letter... but still nothing....
Just wondered if I should call USCIS on Monday?

You'll be within your rights to ask for a service request because they're be outside the 6-month processing target. Whether it will achieve anything (other than resetting the timer for another 30 days) is anybody's guess...

is it wise to call USCIS and confirm with them if they sent me any mail for that time period i.e July 28-Aug 6 2011. Thanks for your kind replies.

I doubt the misinfo line would be able to tell you with any certainty one way or the other. Level 2 might be able to tell you, if you're willing to go to that length. Personally, I'd be livid with USPS that they made such an assumption and started rejecting mail.

Oh question... :help: If they send RFE is it reflected online?

It should be... As always with case status online, you can't count on it. Call the misinfo line if you're that concerned - I'm sure even they can tell if there's an RFE or not :)

mayanksanghavi, did you file your 2010 tax return early enough to include it in the original packet? If not, that's certainly something solid to include. Also, if you sent tax return (1040) printouts first time, try sending transcripts this time. You can order them in a few minutes on the IRS website and they arrive in the mail about a week later so you might want to order them soon if you're going to include them. The 1040s show what you declared, the transcripts show what the IRS decided so they carry a bit more weight than just the print outs.

Other than that, just flood them with paperwork. Every little thing that shows you together, living together, banking together, no matter how insignificant - let them decide whether it's valuable evidence or not. If you're struggling to find stuff you can use, affidavits from friends might be a good idea, especially if you happen to have a friend who knows you both and is a person of standing in the community like a teacher, police officer, doctor, etc...

If your drivers license expired with your original 2-year GC, include a copy of the new license showing the same address as the old one (and that your spouse's is has the same address). If you've switched insurance companies or cell phone contracts or anything like that, include those too. Also, anything that shows you and your spouse as each others' emergency contact or next of kin.

If you simply can't get something that they asked for on the RFE, include a letter (notorised is always good) signed by both of you explaining why you don't have it. That's what we did (in our initial packet) in lieu of including a joint lease/mortgage because my wife has lived in this house and been the mortgagee for over a decade and adding me to it is not financially sensible.

And July is almost gone with fewer approvals than hoped for :(. Looks like they are slowing down some, or at least aren't following the same timescale as they have been for the January filers.

As we move through August, we're all going to be passing through the 6 month processing timeframe... Time to start calling for service requests, I suppose?

[edit] Looks like they've had a major upwards trend in their case load this year :(

[edit2] and because they're approving slower than their receiving...

I want to be touched but USCIS doesn't seem to want to touch me

I was looking through some older filers threads a few weeks back and it looked like we should have seen a handful of VSC approvals this month but it doesn't seem like we're going to. I hope they're not slipping :(

I wonder if I should call ...

Honestly I doubt it would get you anywhere. The processing target to adjudicate an I-751 is 6 months. I'd love to be told I'm wrong but I would imagine any attempt to place a service request before that long has passed would be denied or if you insisted on it, the response to the SR would be please wait until the 6 month timeframe has passed :(

I'm just curious how many people got updates on their emails or phones before getting the actual card? Should I trust the status on uscis.gov. I check that 10 times a day. :-)

If you actually get a notification from them, then yes, you can trust it but you shouldn't assume that the *lack* of a notification means no progress has been made because Case Status Online is extremely unreliable.

The first thing I knew about my AOS approval was when my GC turned up in the mail , no email or even a touch, and that's very common. We had been wringing our hands with worry because we'd sent back an RFE and the case status wasn't reflecting it. Likewise my EAD application status got 'stuck' on the initial processing stage. Then, suddenly, a couple of months later, I got two emails telling me that my EAD and AOS were approved. By that time, the EAD was actually null and void because the GC had been issued

Some people simply get told that their case number is invalid and can never check their status.

So no, it's not particularly trustworthy...

OMG, I literally just received the following email from USCIS!:

That's great news, congratulations :)

It's also good news for the rest of us, I think because it implies they're on the same kind of timeframe they've been on for the past 6 months or so (good news in that they're not getting worse ). Looking back over the previous monthly filers threads, VSC have been starting to slowly approve a few cases at about the three month mark which is where we are now so hopefully we can expect a couple more in the next few weeks, with the trickle gradually becoming a flood over the next 6 weeks or so.

random question, does anyone know why i can't find white pepper in stores here? my husband insists that i made it up. laughing.gif

I've just been into Taste of Britain in Norcross GA and they had packs of ground white pepper on the shelf. If I had my camera with me, I'd have taken a photo for you for proof of it's existence laughing.gif. My wife says it's nothing rare and she's seen it in stores around here so maybe it's just a matter of finding a store that has it?

Incidentally, I got Trebor Extra Strong Mints biggrin.gif and Heinz Cream of Tomato biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I have a pepper mill bought right here in the USA that contains a mix of black, white, red and green peppercorns (delicious!). I think we bought it at a natural foods store but I've seen similar at Wallyworld too.

One thing I've noticed with more 'exotic' items in Walmart is that stores even in a local area have quite wide variations in terms of what they carry. There are 3 Wallyworld stores within about 10 miles of us and each of them has at least a couple of things we like that we can't get at any of the others rolleyes.gif

My wife bought me one in Kroger (Atlanta area) last week. It lasted until the following morning laughing.gif It wasn't proper Dairy Milk though, it was the Hershey's 'licensed' stuff. The Minieggs inside were the real deal though biggrin.gif

Kroger can be quite good for occasional stuff like that, they sell genuine, made in Britain, Cadbury Creme Eggs too, $0.50 each, although they're a bit smaller than the ones sold in Britain.

I've never been asked to show the actual documents. If you have it on your Resume isn't that enough?

But anyone can type it... My wife was certainly asked to show hers when she moved positions within the organisation.... And she'd already been with them for 12 years wacko.gif
