US Citizenship General DiscussionHow long for citizenship?
So here's a quick update. I am considering becoming a police officer or sheriff. However to do this you must be a US Citizen. I am trying to get a long term goal planned. How long from the date my Permanent resident card to the date I could potentially become a US Citizen? Are there any kind of fast-tracks? Do I need a green card for a certain period first?

Thank you in advance. I'd be happy to answer any questions to clarify anything. smile.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionAny way to accelerate citizenship?
I am getting my greencard shortly here, and I want to become a police officer. Obviously with law enforcement you have to be a citizen. I meet the other requirements and I doubt I would have a problem getting the job aside from the fact that I would only be a perm resident. Are there any special programs if I am going into law enforcement to get citizenship quickly? If not what is the fastest I could get citizenship after my GC is approved?

Thank you!

If you have a two-year "conditional" card then yes, you first have to go through the removal of conditions process.

After your ROC is approved, you can apply for citizenship when you have been a PR for 3 years minus 90 days. For that, you may want to read up on the naturalization manual.

Thank you, I needed a plain English clarification on the process and you confirmed what I had read and understood (in unclear USCIS documentation)

I appreciate your help.
