CanadaCanada Warcrafters!
My wife hates videogames but I am a huge nerd. Her and I met on "hotornot.com" yes I know... lame. But what can I say we were both hot!

I am a 35 Human Paladin on erm you know what it escapes me at the moment. I'll get back to you. Though it isn't any of the above servers. :[

CanadaCalgary's Broo-ha-ha over Support our Troops Decals

If we tell our troops "sorry, I don't support you, you're on your own!" we might as well all jus kick them in the head and steal their puppy!

You're entitled to your opinion, which is what makes both of our countries "free".
bradcanuckMaleCanada2007-07-28 13:21:00
CanadaCalgary's Broo-ha-ha over Support our Troops Decals
Absolutely, I understand that 100% Scott. However I am a patriotic Canadian who does not support the troops. As I said, the war is unjustified. I will "Support our Canadian Soldiers in the UN" how is that for a sticker?

If more former forces members and citizens cried murder and pushed the government harder maybe they would pull out. The more "support" stickers people see the more it contradicts everything we are trying to tell our government which is: GET THE F- OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST!

CanadaCalgary's Broo-ha-ha over Support our Troops Decals
To be specific Harper didn't vote to send troops overseas, Cretien did. Harper is left with his mess.

Second, I don't support the war, and thus do not support the troops. (I have a couple friends over there who risk their lives every day for nothing)
So to see those stickers around town would be VERY frustrating.

Down in CA we don't get a lot the southern republican mentality so there's not a lot of flag waving and troop stuff. But baseball games and any public event SOMEONE has to get on a mic and give some goofy speech about supporting troops.

That's not what Canada is about and I am glad the council turned it down. STOP supporting our troops and maybe they will come home.

CanadaNewbie...another one :)

Hhaha yes I have seen that! Sorry you guys are backlogged but know that while you are back logged, I'm sitting here in the US not being able to work or leave the country! haha. I think we are both in crappy situations! :(

Sigh yes, I agree on this one.

I wish I could go home and visit my family. My grandpa couldn't make it to our wedding, doctors orders - he couldn't fly. I am afraid he is going to pass and I wouldn't be able to see him before he does.

These restrictions can be very taxing, here's hoping the process ends in a good light for us soon.

Welcome to your Canada on the internet. :)

Canadastudying while waiting for work authorization

I didn't want to provide it to my gas company once, and they didn't even know what to do.

In southern california due to the massive illegal immigration gas, electric, telephone and internet services will simply take a large "deposit" to set up services. My wife setup most, but when I set up electric it cost me $125 in deposits.

Can get around most things without an SSN but in my experience in my area they won't let you attend school without one.

Canadastudying while waiting for work authorization
It's confusing. You either need to be an F-1, or have an SSN there is no other way really. I've looked into it before.

CanadaRequest for Initial Evidence (I-485)
We're going to go to the Santa Ana field office tomorrow to request documents as an emergency. If that doesn't work we will just file as per normal but try to get rush delivery. Considering the circumstances I think we should be able to.
bradcanuckMaleCanada2007-08-01 18:28:00
CanadaRequest for Initial Evidence (I-485)

Should only take 2 weeks or less.

http://www.irs.gov/i...=110571,00.html

Yes, but that does not include W2s, that's just regular filing info like 1099
bradcanuckMaleCanada2007-07-30 16:04:00
CanadaRequest for Initial Evidence (I-485)
We are sending everything in we can, my wife doesn't have a copy of her w2 from last year but has her filing info. So we are sending that. The main sponsor has her w2 so we should be fine I think, correct?

The IRS said it can take 60 days to send a copy of last years tax return which would put me at the 70 day mark for mailing etc which means there is only a 5-6 day window in my deadline to mail in the initial evidence. So that is cutting it a bit close for my taste. I'd rather get everything in we can now and not risk missing the deadline and having everything be void.

CanadaRequest for Initial Evidence (I-485)
Has anyone received this notice before? We filed and have received a letter stating that my wife did not make enough to meet the poverty guidelines in 2006, which we knew would happen as it was only $12,500. However this year business has picked up and she is on track to make $18,000. My income could not be used as it was Canadian income only.

They have sent a letter stating that:
Because my wife did not make enough last year they won't accept the application unless we have a joint sponsor who did. That is not a problem, my mother in law is a attorney secretary and makes more than enough. However, can my mother in law be a co-sponsor?

Let me know. I only have 2 months to submit the changes.

Thanks as always, I know you guys will have a ton of information for me. ;)

CanadaAmerican moves to Canada reach record high
Fascinating. It's funny, never hear about Americans in Canada. They keep a low profile for some reason.
bradcanuckMaleCanada2007-08-01 16:10:00
CanadaDoes illegal immigration upset you big time too?
I live in CA and half of the people in any complex I have lived in are illegal. They load their 1bdrm with 14 people and all share the rent so they all just have to make pennies to live. Normally I would understand and appreciate the situation - considering I have not been a perfect little soldier myself when it comes to immigrating.

However these same people march, DEMANDING amnesty for their illegal actions while I spend thousands doing it the right way.

As long as they shut the ###### up and stop playing the victim in a country that isn't even theirs, I don't mind one single bit. But when they demand special treatment and they have no RIGHT to, then it bothers me.

CanadaI want to get out of here so badly
Not everything works out for everyone. I enjoy the US a lot more the Canada, but if the US votes for another republican president I may be starting this process over again to bring my wife to Canada. :)

I hate to give the shortest reply here but I need to say it:

You only live once.

Do what it is you want to do with the time you have and don't worry about the rest. It will all fall in line.

CanadaI thought I was going to melt.

then south western BC would be perfect for you, hardly any snow... maybe a few days a year and then it melts within a day or two.. you just would have to get used to the rain... it rains a lot during the winter months....

Yes... the winter months being September - May

LOL
bradcanuckMaleCanada2007-08-14 13:57:00
CanadaI thought I was going to melt.
I moved from Vancouver to Southern California in 2004 for school. The first week I was there was Sept1-7 and it was a record setting heat wave. I didn't have AC (complex had a few broken units).
I acclimatized fast.

I still have days where I sweat badly and can't handle it as well as local born people. What I CAN tell you though is that when I went home last October, I was freezing beyond words and normally October was my favorite month weather wise as it was a median temperature.

Canadaone year later
Congratulations on year one. I think that was the hardest one for me. Going on to the third now, a lot of the initial shock things are over... but even last night I was very homesick and just wanted some dill pickle chips and to wrap myself in the Canadian flag.

Cheers, and I wish you nothing but continued success and happiness!

I've heard from a few people on the boards that some banks won't allow you to open a bank account without a SSN. tongue.gif

I THINK I read on the govt website that even schools are not allowed to ask for an SSN. It is meant to be used for social security only, and not as a means to verify citizenship etc.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure banks aren't legally allowed to force you to have one.

just curious cool.gif

WAMU has "free checking" or "free chequeing" lol. But as I say in my personal experience I have been very unhappy with them.

Bank of America. They are everywhere and pretty decent of a bank. Had them for 3 years without a problem.

Wells Fargo I use for business banking and they are GREAT for that.

Either are good banks IMO. I also have Washington Mutual, and I don't like them at all.

I purchased Progressive insurance on my own with a Canadian lisence, then added my California.

I am currently on my wife's policy. No SSN. They should have NO problems adding a Canadian for any reason.

Canadai864 RFE (for i485)
Instead of making a new thread I'll just post in this one:

My i-485 doesn't have a case number I can view info with online. My i130 did, but 485 is a MSC number which I guess isn't viewable online. How can I track progress of my case?

Canadai864 RFE (for i485)
I was sent an RFE for the 864. We corrected what we had to and sent it back. At this point if there is anything else missing, do we get another RFE? Or do they abandon the case? If they abandon the case can we petition it? What are the options if something is incorrect this time?

PS Very nervous, sorry!

Len,
If your word is not appreciated it really makes you re-think posting. I agree.

However as an anti-racist educator I can imagine you have learned an insane amount about patience and frustration. That's probably why you're here to begin with. MUCH MUCH respect to you. smile.gif

Internet land is full of jerks and ego freaks. Give a human a keyboard and we just say whatever we want. Canadians IMO are REALLY different. I mean I can't pin it but we seem more willing to do selfless things.

I had a thought then I lost it. I'll leave it at: Don't worry about it. People say silly things. Just help out as usual and hope someone sees the value in what you say.
