I am proud to say I created a thread so epic, that it had to be closed to save the server gerbils. If nothing else, I will be remembered for that. wink.gif

CanadaThe Rainbow
So, we as humans have established that we love to vent the misfortunes in our lives. This isn't a bad thing - as creatures we have issues and being able to express them to your peers is fantastic.

But what happens when you are just so happy about something you can't handle it? You take a ride on the rainbow thread!
Post your happy outbursts, or things you just love about life or today so much that you need to share it with others.

I will start: My sister moved out on her own with her boyfriend of 2 years. She used to be very intolerant as a teen and I never saw her being able to learn sign language to stay with him. Yet years later they are in a strong relationship, planning marriage and a life together. I am so proud of her! What is even cooler is I am helping her buy some furniture to get her going in their new place. I am proud to say I have always helped my sister in life (bought a laptop for college etc) and and happy that she is excelling and is happy.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDo I go n400 or i-751?
I am currently a conditional permanent resident. I became one on (green card issued) january 11th, 2008. I was informed that I could mail in my condition removal as soon as november 11th 2009. (90 days)

I would like to become a citizen. I have been married to my wife for 3 years as of January 4th, 2010. Do I qualify to apply for citizenship in lieu of a condition removal? What is the best route for me to take?

Thank you kindly.

US Citizenship General DiscussionIs it 3 years minus 90 days?

Remember that 90 days is not the same as 3 months. You can apply NO SOONER than 90 days prior.

According to the dates that you've provided the earliest that you can submit the N-400 pkg is 10/13/2010.

Thank you Anh!

US Citizenship General DiscussionIs it 3 years minus 90 days?
I've seen conflicting information and I want to be 100% positive I have it right. On my first green card (the conditional) I am a resident since 1/11/08. Do I apply on 1/11/11 or do I apply on 10/11/10? Some people say you send in your docs 90 days before the 3 year mark, some say send it in on the 3 year mark.

Thank you.

US Citizenship General DiscussionPrevious application information not matching up
During my previous applications, I listed residences that I lived at and jobs that I worked at for short periods of time. I was a contractor and consultant so I worked for several firms and groups, and moved around a lot (places 2 months at a time)

Do I need to list every residence and address? I didn't keep copies of my past applications and frankly, I forget some of the places I worked since I didn't keep that great of records. I am afraid they will match up past files and see discrepancies or date changes - which in complete honesty are based on my best guesses/memory of where I was and what I was doing at the time. Should I be worried?

US Citizenship General DiscussionHusband's Interview Tucson, Arizona

Wonderful - I can only hope my interview questions will be as easy as those!

As I learn more and more about the US, they all become easy. I've been here 7 years and a lot of it seems common sense. The harder ones have to do with the constitution, amendments etc. I've even learned the national anthem word for word. Don't worry, commit it to memory and treat it moreso as a questionnaire than a test. None of us on this board need to be nervous, we are the most prepared in the world. :)

Congrats Wael!

US Citizenship General DiscussionProblem? I only have 2 years returns

You sent in 07/08/09 taxes to them correct?

Nope. I received my GC January 11, 2008. I never received work auth, so I wasn't working in 2007 and can't submit a 2007 return since I got my social January 11, 2008.
I need my 2010 to have 3 years returns.

US Citizenship General DiscussionProblem? I only have 2 years returns
I only have 08 and 09 taxes right now. I am going to be filing my 2010 as soon as all of the W2s and school receipts come in but that will be first week of February.
My interview date is the 28th, if I don't have my 3rd year transcript in hand by then - can they hold up the application for that? What can I do there?

I hope that's the case here, but I have a feeling it isn't. :[ I can't wait 2 months for the oath... I wonder if I can talk them into a quicker one.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDoes Santa Ana do Interview/Oath same day?
I have heard some offices do the Oath and interview on the same day. Santa Ana is a very small office so I am assuming they don't. Does anyone know if they do it on the same day? I can't find any information on it.

Thanks

I'm not looking for life advice right now, I wanted to know if the Oath was optional. It isn't, so I'll just figure it out when I receive the date. I'll plead to have it in March with the IO and go from there.

US Citizenship General DiscussionOath Cerimony Optional?
I have my interview in 13 days. I found out today I have lost my job, and I have enough cash to stay here for 43 more days. April 1st I will need to leave the US and move back to Canada until I can get on my feet.

I heard from a Filipino that she didn't go to the Oath, and they just mailed her all of the information like passport app and naturalization certificate. Is it possible to not be present for it? My guess is I will be scheduled for an oath in April and I won't have the ability to fly down for it.

Thoughts/feedback would be appreciated.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHow long to keep immigration documents?
My gut says that we could throw them away the moment our next stage of immigration is complete. But I plan on hanging on to every single piece of paper USCIS sent me for the rest of my life. It doesn't take up much room and you just never know.

US Citizenship General DiscussionObtaining citizenship and then moving overseas
lynJer,
The day of my Oath this month, I am actually going to it with my car packed and ready to drive up to Canada from Los Angeles. I am literally getting my certificate, applying for the passport the same day and then leaving the country. (For the same reasons you are, job prospects, I was laid off)

There's nothing wrong with this and not against any rules. Best of luck to you.

Of course you can leave. During the interview you just give your latest trip info. They append it to your application, marking it with red pen. It doesn't affect anything. (unless you went to Cuba of course)

US Citizenship General DiscussionNo Infopass appointments?
I wanted to go in before I leaved the states and find out where my Oath letter is at. I changed my address online, and with USPS so if they sent it 2 days ago it's now in a forward so I won't get it for 7-10 days in Canada. That being said I wanted to know if they sent it out or now in case it's a short notice or something and I miss it. I checked online and there are no infopass appointments until after I leave. Is there any way to walk in? I am going to call the 1800 number but in my experience and everyone else's they have been completely and utterly useless, and we'd get better information on immigration by calling the Taco Bell feedback line.

Can I walk-in to the infopass office? Any other ideas? I don't want to be a spazz but I have a feeling this is going to get messy if I don't get some kind of confirmation.

US Citizenship General Discussionis tax return necessary for citizenship ?
What Inky said. It doesn't matter why he didn't file - every American or green card holder MUST file a tax return EVERY year even if you lose money. You can file back YEARS. So get him to get caught up, there's no choice. It's not just immigration that's a problem, it's tax fraud to not file. http://en.wikipedia....and_tax_evasion

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat is a "file freeze"?
I am going to reply by letter and ask what "file freeze" means as there's no such phrase in USCIS literature and that makes no sense that my file would be frozen so I am asking for clarification.

Try not to think about it. It won't ever change and the people ahead/behind us will have to deal with the same garbage we did. If anything it will get worse and more expensive. Imagine (gasp) not even HAVING the misinformation 1-800 number! LOL

If a PERSON was in charge of USCIS amazing things could be done. Unfortunately it's in the hands of a bureaucracy which is much different. Look at it this way... you're almost done the N-400 (along with me) and never have to deal with them again. Consider this worth the money/time we've invested... paying to never deal with them again. :)

Sure, they can. Will they? Who knows. But yes they could to verify the marriage was real.

Nick, isn't it funny? I was born in Canada 5 miles from the US border in a hospital. Had I been diverted 5 miles away I would have been born a dual citizen.

I just said to my parents the other day "I wonder when our passport will say "Citizen: Earth" ... it's strange how we all group ourselves into religions, countries, communities, and even further down. We're funny creatures.

On May 10, 2011, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

This is the notice sitting in my case status panel online and this is the last I have heard from USCIS. When should I start getting nervous? Shouldn't the letter have been sent out virtually immediately after that notice was generated online? That is how it has always worked so I am wondering why I haven't received my notice yet. How long does it usually take? I had my interview February 28th.

Bradcanuck...I sure hope you are right. I'm sitting tight waiting. I'm learning to trust God coz it was His will that I tell the truth and I did. Have a great week.

Thought I would add the status page at USCIS still reads: "Testing and Interview" as it has for over six weeks. USCIS must not be concerned with keeping the page current.
