CanadaCrossing the border w/ Green Card
Legally and technically they can treat you however they want.
However that kind of behavior is not "normal" by any means. Did you note the officer's (lol what a joke by the way) name? During infopass you can bring up the name and if you speak with a manager on the floor, ask to file a complaint.

You shouldn't be AFRAID to enter your country. Are you afraid when you go to Canada?

CanadaConsidering Abondoning it all
I have a good job and a decent lifestyle in the US. However my marriage has been deteriorating for some time now, on both partners ends. Lately every day has been a struggle to get through and I think we both know it's going to end.

That being said - I have questions regarding immigration.
If I decide to leave, what is the process? I am on a greencard and I can file for condition removal November 09. Do I send my card in and then just leave the country?
In the event I abandon the GC and in the future I want to come to the US am I treated as a non resident such as before I received the GC?

We both entered this in good faith but I'm learning we are just too young and I don't think we can do it any longer.
Any help and insight would be appreciated.

CanadaHow do you call your Canadian?
QUOTE (neiks @ Jan 2 2008, 06:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Verizon wireless has a Nationwide plus Canada plan. Free long distance calling to anywhere in the US and Canada. http://www.verizonwi...c...t&catId=930 We have been on it for a long time. No roaming charges in either country. I think they now offer it in a family plan so you could get one for your fiance in Canada too.

This is what I use to call my parents. I also have a land line and I have vonage for that. Its 3c a minute and $9 a month. fairly reasonable.

I was in a small town called Bothell, WA this weekend during my road trip, and stopped at a local Applebees (I know I know, it's all I could find)

There was a party of 14 old people, in the range of 50-90 years old (family outing I guess). One woman explained she was a politics teacher at the local high school.

An older man said "I don't see how anyone can vote for Obama. He killed thousands of people. Just because he shaved his beard and sounds like he speaks perfect English now isn't enough for me to vote for him. McCain will go kill him for us and get justice."

The table all agreed completely, that Barack Obama was actually Osama bin Laden.

No, I am not joking. That's how stupid Americans can be.

PS. They said Foxnews has been an excellent source of election news.

I have a vent!

We moved into a new apartment end of April and the complex messed up all our paperwork. So 10 days ago they tell us we owe them $500 more for deposits/cleaning etc etc bla bla. So I write them a check. Time goes by and I get an angry follow up call. Apparently they lost the check and demanded payment THAT DAY. Why do I get penalized for other people's idiocy and then I feel guilty?

I am beyond the red line tired of human beings being unreliable, unfriendly and ... well so shitty.

Maybe Sara will pop in and reply to this thread about wedding mishaps. We had a lot of them. She dropped one of her friends from the wedding since she didn't have money to pay for her dress. (Expected us to when our wedding was already at 15k)

Anyway.. Sara wanna chime in?

All I know is I am glad that bit is over with. Everyone wants to be a part of the "special day" so much that for some it is no longer special. After while I just told her to stop facilitating everyone. As soon as we stopped listening, taking advice and using "connections" we were virtually stress free.

I'm not shocked by human behavior anymore. I expect mediocrity, I EXPECT failure, and I expect people to think their business is more important than anyone elses.

I have learned that "strike 1, you're out" works best. If the mess up once, they will again and again and again. So I cut them off early. Completely. If they don't have the courtesy to follow through on something we have planned, I don't have the courtesy to tell them why they are such an idiot.

July 5th - October 29th = 114 days - the average EAD comes in what 74-77 days? What on Earth is taking so long?

I have to wait until the 10th of November for 60 days past RFE receipt before I can go in to Infopass, and until this friday before it is 30 days past current processing date to 2nd level IO. I am just going absolutely nuts waiting here knowing there are people in AUGUST getting approves and here I am sitting and waiting on my #######.

Now the CA fires are raging. I am going insane. At this point I don't even care when I am approved. It's just getting silly.

If you don't get an interview letter for your I-485 by November 11, go back to Infopass. There's not much they can do in the interim since you've been given the standard line of 60 days after they resumed processing when they received your RFE. But hopefully they'll schedule you soon. Is your local office a busy one? Maybe that's why there's been delays in getting an interview scheduled. I doubt very much you'll be approved without an interview since you adjusted from a visitor. Looks like the only ones really to get approved without interview are those adjusting from K1s.

Yeah I have a countdown sheet and time frames. Right now I am way over my EAD time line, but I have to wait for another 11 days to go infopass. Plus the AOS time frame still has until the 11th. So I have an appointment for November already. I am just antsy.

Santa Ana doesn't seem to be a busy one based on time lines on VJ.

I will get health care through my soon to be husbands work...it was one of his deciding factors when taking the job. The fact that it had a plan for the three of us.

And I didn't give up free health care in Canada, I gave up extreme taxing.

Yes I loved our health care in Canada, and I loved having a system that didn't discriminate but it was hardly "free". I would love a universal system down here but I don't think it is ever going to happen.

I am just annoyed that people treat me like I am an idiot and didn't take these important things into consideration.

Oh and my family has a divorce pool going. Isn't that nice? I have never been married before, and I have been with my fiance for over 4 years.
They're being complete ####### - pardon my language.

Now THIS is a vent. Yes, I also left the triple taxation country. I got sick of paying 16% on goods and then paying 40% taxes every year for HORRIBLY subpar healthcare. I only have been to the hospital twice, but if it was life threatening I have no questions that I'd be dead. God forbid I ever needed an organ transplant.

As for the divorce pool, that is actually SICK and abusive. You poor thing.

Every time I lose my mind (10-15 times a day) I come to VJ and read other topics to sort of blow some steam. But every time I view the July AOS Filers thread in the AOS forum I see approvals from people that filed weeks after me. Interview done, everything done. I had my infopass a week and 2 days ago and he said at the latest I'd get something in 30 days, and my EAD was approved so I should get that right away.

So far I haven't seen anything update online and nothing in the mail.
I need to just SCREAM because I am losing control. This limbo phase is destroying me.

Checking online 15 times a day is counter productive I know but I can't stop. I have an OCD personality and I let little things like this mess with me.

CanadaComing up on Citizenship
I am nearing my earliest application date to apply for citizenship (November 11th)
What I wanted to know is - in your experience when is it best to get all of the paperwork together? Do they change the forms often enough to where I should wait - or would it be fine to begin prepping everything and putting together lease documents, photos etc now? We were told during the GC interview that we would have to send in "additional proof" once our 2 year GC was up.

I am getting excited here and I want to make sure everything is tight and put away for the big day.
