US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow do I cancel a K1 petition?

What happended was............

In order to receive a Passport in Brazil, you cannot have outstanding bad debts. These have to be paid off before "CPF" will give make clearance for a Passport. At least that is my understanding. She had lost her job and was unable to pay her debts. But most of the debt was because she just kept spending even when she knew she had no way to pay (credit cards).

In March 2006, I gave her the money to pay all the bad debts to clear her record at "CPF". Now she can get a Passport. I visited Brazil Nov 8 - 14 and everything was just wonderful. I explained all the necessary documents, gave her all the info she would need from me at the Interview.

3 days after I returned home, I called her and asked about the Passport. That's when she told me she had done something "stupid" long ago. She explained that she had never paid those old debts and that she is unable to get a Passport. I was furious! I did not have words to explain what I was feeling.

I remembered that when I visited her Mother's house, it had new living room furniture, new bathroom appliances, new dining room furniture, new kitchen and a new refrigerator. Now the all the pieces started coming together. I understand that she did this for the family, but here I am with our petition arriving at the Consulate in Rio de Janeiro TODAY. She has no passport and has no way to get one. How I wish I wish I had that diamond ring back!

She swears that her love for me is true, and that she just made a horrible mistake, bad judgement. But I don't think I can proceed more with the Visa. I am certainly not going to pay for all her debts again. I told her to sell her ring and pay her debts. So here I am, about to stop the Visa process and the papers are in Brazil now. How sad is all this?

Honestly, I care much for her. I love her. I really don't know what I should do. I feel angry, betrayed, confused, stupid. I have not talked to her since she told me all this. So, in the next 2-3 weeks, I will make a decision on what I'll do. I do not want to be making too much about nothing in the big picture of life. I just need to think.

You've been blinded by love. She never intended to marry you. Cancel the petition and find an honest woman.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNSO information

Mira went online to the NSO website to request a cenomar and we read in the FAQ that embassies prefer documents to be dated less than six months before interview date. So she also applied for another birth certificate. Her NBI clearance is also older than 6 months and she will get another one. We read the posts on "ribbonizing" the documents and think that's a good idea. We don't want to leave anything to chance. Are we being paranoid. Any comments?

Don't forget to get the NBI stamped "for US travel" or "for international travel".

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion? About paying the Manila interview fee

Hi,
So I read that we need to pay about 100.00 for the medical exam and another 100.00 for the interview.

So to pay the interview fee... since she can't pay it at the embassy during the interview, is there a way she can pay the fee somewhere in Cebu before she flies to Manila? Some bank or something?

Thanks,
Mike

100 bucks, paid at BPI.
Take your filled-up DS-157 form (or get one at the bank if you don't have it) because you need the validated DS-157 to prove you paid!
Save the pink receipt from the bank (there seems to be some disagreement on this but save it if they give you one, and it might be blue!).

BPI locations in Cebu will accept the payment:
Cebu Main Magallanes Cor. P. Burgos Sts., Cebu City (032) 256-1599 / 255-7756 / 412-1368
Cebu Jones Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City (032) 253-7243/ 253-7241

Note that some instructions say the DS-156 is validated but apparently it is the DS-157.

My fiance is getting ready for the medical now. What I have found is that the medical exam fee is paid at St. Lukes at the time of the exam, and is $95 but must be paid in Philippine pesos.

I beleive the VISA interview fee is $100 and must be paid in advance at BPI.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionanybody from the philippines?

I'm not from the phillipines, but I'm pretty sure the NVC sends things out via DHL :)

I think I read on one of the USCIS web sites that this is correct. They send in batches. with the volume in Manila I would imagine they do it at least a couple of times a month. Our petition was in the NVC for about two weeks before it was sent to Manila.

Good luck!

Actually I think the OP question was also about packages from the USE in Manila to spouse/fiance in the Philippines. Those are the ones that might get lost in the mail.

I asked Claudeth and she said she received the packet from the embassy via FedEx

Appointment letter (packet 4) or VISA packet?

Good luck to us.

Seems like regular mail can take a week or two from Manila. I think they put it on a ferry boat (a very slow ferry boat). :help:

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview paperwork

Thanks to all here.
My finace's appointment is this Feb. Do I need to give her a copy of the I-129 or just the DS forms and proof of relationship?

She should be familiar with everything in the I-129F as they could ask her questions about anything in it. I've been making a list of things to do and to bring for my fiancee's interview. I have compiled this from many sources here and elsewhere. Here's the latest revision:

VISA Interview at US Embassy Manila

Before Interview:
· Pay Interview fee of $100USD at BPI. If they don't want to stamp the DS-157 we have already filled up then just take the form they give you and fill it up.

Bring:
· Appointment Letter original and 1 copy.
· Valid photo ID (NBI badge?) and 1 copy.
· VISA Application Forms
DS-156 (2 completed and signed forms with photos glued on, and 1 copy).
DS-156K (2 completed and signed forms, and 1 copy). DO NOT SIGN BEFORE INTERVIEW!
DS-157 (2 completed and signed form – 1 must be stamped with BPI payment, and 1 copy)
DS-230, part 1 (2 completed and signed forms, and 1 copy).
· Fiancé affidavit of support form (I-134F, notarized).
· Fiancé employment letter, copies of W-2 forms, pay stubs, bank statements.
· Fiancé last 3 years income tax forms (copies of 1040 form).
· Passport original and 1 copy (St. Luke’s will take the original during the medical and send to the Embassy).
· Original NSO Birth Certificate, original and 1 copy (they might take the original or copy).
· CENOMAR original and 1 copy (they might take the original or copy).
· NBI Clearance with "For US Travel" or "For Travel Abroad" stamp, original and 1 copy (they might take the copy).
· Passport-sized photos (at least 2, with name on back, for the DS-156 forms).
· Evidence of ongoing relationship (pictures, snail mail, email, phone records, receipts).
· New letter of intent from me.
· NOA2 and NVC letter and copies (to show spelling error)
· Copy of original I-129F packet with original receipts, etc.
· Black pen.

Notes:
· Arrive before 5AM. They will start getting in line at 3AM.
· Cell phone can be brought in, but must be turned off and checked inside.
· Passport will be taken at St. Luke's during the medical exam, and St. Luke's will send it to the Embassy.
· The pre-interviewer may only ask for the Birth Certificate, NBI Clearance, affidavit of support folder and the evidence of meeting with the petitioner.
· At the end of the interview ask the interviewer if you are approved. If they will not tell you then look to see if they place a green and white "VISA APPROVED" sticker on your brown folder.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionfailed medical (TB), how do we get new interview?

I think I'm confused. Did she have her interview at the Embassy and that is how she found out about the TB? Or did they tell her after the medical and begin treating her?

If she did have the interview, what did they say at the end of it? Did they tell her she was denied the visa?

I think she went to her medical exam first and that how they found out that she have it. Because here, you will have your medical exam 1 week before your interview. Its written on applicants appointment from the Embassy.

This is why some of here recommend getting the medical exam early. The medical exam date on the appointment is just for your convenience and you don't have to go on that date. Some people are doing their medical and interview in one trip so that usually works best (if you don't have any problems in the medical exam).

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionearly med exam?

my fiance has an interview date..we were told she can take her medical exam early.....can she just show up?...does she pay for the exam at st. lukes?..or somewhere else prior to the exam?...thx

Yes she can take it early and it's a very good idea for several reasons. She does not need an appointment and she can just show up. She will pay the fee at St. Lukes. The fee is paid at St. Lukes and is $95 but paid in the equivalent amount of PhP (about P4700). She should take a little extra money in case they want to do additional xrays for TB detection.

She needs to take her passport, interview appointment letter and 3 passport-sized (2x2) photos. If you PM me I'll send you my St. Lukes checklist.

My fiancee is going next week, about a month early.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical forms

What's with all of these medical forms people are talking about? My fiancee is having her medical exam at St. Lukes tomorrow. I thought the only form she needed is form DS-3025 for AOS. What's with forms: 693, 693A, 2053, etc? Does she need any of these forms also?

Rob she will fill-up the forms at St. Luke's when she gets there. The forms are called Personal Data Sheet.

She will need to know the following for the forms:

· Complete Address of your nearest relative in USA:
· Telephone number of your nearest relative in USA:

St. Luke's - Questions during the exam:

· You can bring bottled water inside but no food.
· If necklace is worn it must be removed for X-Ray.
· Hair will need to be tied back for X-Ray.
· Normally the medical exam process takes two days. Day 1 is the medical exam and Day 2 is the vaccination. Some may complete both in one day.

Another update on the Lotus Garden Hotel. The business center (internet cafe) seems to be closed in the evening, and internet access is P80/hour. It's easy to find other cafes in the area for P25/hour that have better hours. Otherwise my fiancee said she likes it.

My fiancee has been trying to find info on where to stay while getting her medical exam. I know there are some seedy hotels close by but she doesn't want any of those. She would like to find one only a couple of minutes of walking to and from the clinic so she can be in line before the clinic opens because she is going for her medical earlier than her appointment. She would also like cost per night info and anyones comments on staying there.

try cherry blossoms, it is nice, beside the robinsons ermita, i stayed there a few time, the price inculdes a breakfast, (but she will be up too early for that, it is safe and clean.
they have a few different types of rooms the cheapest fill up fast so get reservations.
it is also on the same street as St.lukes, just about 2-3 blocks
the below info is from my guide book so it might be old
Cherry blossoms Hotel, 524-7631, 550 j. bocobo extension, ermita.
premium/deluxe P1250/1815
singles/doubles 2178/2541
also try
Citystate tower hotel 400-7351

I am sure the prices have gone up, but the location is great, and safe, nice staff, close to all transportation.

I checked Cherry Blossoms for this week but they were getting full and all I could get was their 2-level suite for P2350 (about $47). I figured for that price I would just go up a notch in price and get a little nicer place. If you reserve in advance you can probably get one of their cheaper rooms if price is a priority.

My fiancee is at the Lotus Garden Hotel right now and she says she likes it. She says there are guards at the front door, the desk staff is nice, and it was quiet last night on the upper floor she's on. I'll have a report on the included breakfast and internet access (if any) later. She is also checking the walking distance and time to St. Luke's this afternoon. She will be there most of the week so if you let me know of any specific questions you have I can ask her.

We paid $50 but they may have rooms for $45. We got the second lowest price thinking it might be a little nicer.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMEDICAL EXAM

This is strange, so watch out for this at St. Luke's!!!

So, my fiancee is there in Manila and plans to go to St. Luke's on 1/10 (Wednesday) first thing in the morning, like 4AM or 5AM. She is done with her other stuff at about 9:30AM on 1/9 (Tuesday) so she figures she'll go over to St. Lukes so she knows how to find it and maybe she can pick up the forms and fill them up in advance to save some time (she's a smart woman). So she gets there and the guard says they are not full yet so she can go ahead and start the medical exam right away. Huh? :o So I just talked to her and I think she has only the vital signs, eye check, physical exam (you know, the "private parts" inspection!), and immunization interview. I guess she will finish up tomorrow with the immunizations.

That's good!

Just a note though... you really don't have to go to St. Luke's at the crack of dawn to get you medical done that day. I went there at 12noon to avoid the crowd (my excuse for not being a morning person :D ) and had no problem.

Almost done with the K1 process garya!

Well she got the vaccinations Wednesday (Jan 10) so she gets a free day today (Jan 11) to go to Mall of Asia and just have fun.

Well just an update. My fiancee Florenda arrived in Manila at 8:45AM today (Monday). Yes she has her passport but I believe you can get into the CFO seminar with two valid photo IDs, like NBI or COMELEC (or passport of course).

I did not receive an appoinment letter for the medical just for the interview at the embassy. Is there a separate appointment letter for the medical? Please anyone help. :help:

I think we have seen this problem before and it's really 12PM (noon). There is no separate letter for the St. Luke's medical. The date they give you will be one week before the interview but you can go early of you prefer. Actually I don't think there is a real "appointment" at St. Lukes, they just give you a date for that.

I have a question in Sheriff Ulings PDF Pack for the medical he says this "Your passport will not be returned to you. They will forward it to USE together with your medical results. Delbros will deliver your passport at the address you specified on the delivery form during your interview." I am little confused... The medical is first and my Fiancee does not live around manilla... now she is staying there with some freinds.. but if they keep the passport and mail it ?? she is not going home between the med and her interview?? Can someone please shed some light on this for us.. Thanks

St. Lukes will keep her passport and send it to the Embassy. If she is flying home she will need another photo ID, like NBI or COMELEC to board the flight. My fiancee completed her medical last week and our interview is in Feb.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNeed Advice - Med Exam in Manila

Hi everyone. I'm hearing horror stories re: Medical Exam in Manila where people are camping out overnight to wait in line or someone going in at 2AM on the day of their appointment to find a line already waiting. How bad is it really as far as the line goes? I'm in Manila right now helping my fiance out. We haven't received Packet 4 yet but she's been told by other K1 applicants that there's a really long wait for Medical Exam. If anyone here has gone through it already - is this true? Thanks in advance for the help. Also does the Embassy allow parking inside their grounds for the interview if I go along?

My fiancee just did her medical exam last week. A lot of people think you need to go there at 4AM to get in. Well my fiancee planned to do that, but she went there the day before at 10AM to pick up the forms to fill up in advance, but they sent her right in and she was done at about 4PM! Of course you may still need to go back the next day for vaccinations.

The advantage of going really early is 2 things - 1) you are gauranteed to get in that day, and 2) you might be able to get your vaccinations the same day. If you don't get there early enough there is a possibility they could be filled up for that day and you would have to come back another day.

And, keep in mind that you don't have to go on the date they give you on the interview letter. You can go any time you like as long as it's at least 1 week before the interview. You don't need an appointment.

Just make sure to bring $95 (in pesos), your appointment letter, passport, and 3 passport-sized photos, and make sure you know the answers to the following questions:

St. Luke's - Information for forms:
· Name (Last, First, Middle):
· Civil Status: single or married
· Case Number: MNLxxxxxxxxxx
· Classification: K1 or K3
· Consul: Manila, Philippines

My fiancee is having her physical at St. Lukes six days before her interview, is that is a problem. She will have her exam on Thursday and Friday and her interview is the following Wednesday.

They usually give you an exam date for 1 week before the interview so they have time to get the results to the Embassy. It's always better to go earlier if you can. You don't need an appointment to go earlier. My fiancee did her medical last week and interview is in Feb.

Don't know if they can get it there in 6 days, probably they can but why risk it?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-157 Question 18 "Travel Arrangements"

this is one of those questions not that important for K-1 visa. we checked no. if you are requesting visa pickup at the Embassy, then maybe can see checking yes and filling in departure date, etc...

Hmmm, yes we are requesting VISA pickup. I suppose I should do a new form, maybe it will help our chances of getting our pick-up request approved, if they even look at that.

True, who knows if they even look at that question on the DS-157 for a k-1. it may not help, but worth a try.

Yes, good point, and the postage is only 84 cents.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-157 Question 18 "Travel Arrangements"
How important is Question 18 in the DS-157 form? When I filled it out the first time and sent it to my fiancee I didn't have our travel arrangements and now I do, so should I do a new form? No, we don't have the BPI stamp on it yet.

NYGirl,

For what visa type?

For a K visa it is generally, although not always, required to be sent to the consulate, along with one or more other things, before the consulate will schedule an interview.

Yodrak

when does DS 230 needs to be filled out?
and the affidavit support does not need to be included in the I129 package? only after the NOA2 when i sent him all the other papers?

thank you all,

garya505,

Recognize that the consulate in Manilla does some things differently from most other consulates.

Yodrak

when does DS 230 needs to be filled out?

Later, send it to him to take to the interview.

.....

Ah, sorry I forgot.

The affidavit (and supporting documentation) goes with him to the interview.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAirplane Ticket

Just a word of caution - be careful of Northwest Airlines booking on NWA flight 72/78/XXX. This includes domestic Japanese flight 78 from Nagoya (NGO) to Tokyo (NRT).

What's the caution about NWA? I flew flight 72 through Nagoya 3-times, and my girl flew to America on flight 72. We never had any problems. And booking a one-way ticket from MNL on NWA.com was pretty cheap: w/taxes it was less then $750.

Connecting in Nagoya OR Narita isn't a problem as you are in the international teminal all the time. It's not flight 72 that's a problem, it's flight 78 (NGO-NRT) because it's a domestic Japanese flight.

I hope everyone is doing well. My fiance's interview is this Friday, and needless to say, I am walking on pins and needles. But she is ready and prepared as much as she can be. I tried searching but couldn't find any information. I am preparing to purchase her ticket, but when I do, how do I get it to her? Didn't think about this until recently. Do I have it sent to me, then overnight it to her in Manila? Also, I found one for $669.00 through Orbitz. This seems to be a good price, especially considering what I have paid in the past. Anyone know of any good sites to purchase tickets other then what I have mentioned? I know that her name must be on the tickets, so I am guessing I will have to contact the airlines to do this. Thanks again for all of your help and I hope you all are doing well. Take care, Stacy.

Most airlines just use "e-tickets", where they just send you an email. Make sure her name is spelled correctly when you buy it. If they actually send you a paper ticket, I would suggest sending it to her via FedEx due to mail theft in the Philippines.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS156 Address Problem ('/' character not allowed)

garya505,

Or write it out, 'care of'.

Yodrak

I don't think this would be a major problem. I think I would write c.o if I were you, garya505.

Yes that's what I was thinking. The abbreviation "c/o" is a standard abbreviation for "in care of", and I think generally you can use a full phrase anytime there is an abbreviation.

I'm just trying to avoid any questions at interview about a change in her address.

Can't you just write it down after you've printed it out?

No. I believe address is one of the things that is coded into the 2D barcode on page 3.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS156 Address Problem ('/' character not allowed)
I working on the DS156 and I can't fill in the same address (question 15) as I did on the I129F. The new automated DS156 form won't allow it because it contains a '/' character. My fiancee lives in a boarding house and they use the owner's name in the address because tha owner is known to the postal carriers. For example:

JANE DOE
c/o JOHN SMITH
1234 MAIN ST
CAGAYAN DE ORO
PHILIPPINES 9000

The "c/o" is not allowed on the new automated DS156 form because of the '/' character. I could probably just drop that line, but then it won't match the I-129F form where I had no problem with the "c/o" line. Or instead of "c/o JOHN SMITH" I could just use "(in care of) JOHN SMITH" or "c o JOHN SMITH" or "c.o. JOHN SMITH".

Does the DS156 address need to match the I129F form address exactly? What is this address on the DS156 used for?

Has anyone run into this before? What did you do?

Got any other ideas? :help:
