Hello, If your fiances brother and sister both did k-1 this could of also been the help for a denial because I do know that those are red flags and maybe it was that along with a combination of other things like the answers he gave etc. sometimes the co's just try to find any reason for denial.
GoodLuck and I hope everything goes well. :)

Middle East and North AfricaJFK POE
Hello Everyone,

My hubby is finally coming home tomorrow  and the POE will be JFK and I was Wondering for those of you who used JFK as POE if the experience was bad or good, if they were treated harshly or not, if its a long process or a short one, or does it just depend? Does coming from an islamic country make it worst?
Thank You So Much Ahead Of Time :)

Middle East and North AfricaMosque and Marriage
hi, I am muslim and for the person who said that they charged her at a mosque to get married, they are not suppose to charge you its suppose to be free at charge because the imam is suppose to be doing it for Allah not for us so that imam was wrong for charging. My husband and I got married at a mosque for free and even gave us a certificate for when we go to saudi arabia for hajj for free. And also you do have to be fully covered when you go to the mosque wearing hijab and covered and oh yeah also you will need a wally if your father is not muslim then he cannot be your wally, your wally must be a father figure and must be muslim but dont worry if you dont have this even the imam can do this for you or someone from the mosque and dont let them charge you for it because its suppose to be free
goodluck and i hope you guys have a great wedding and may allah bless your marriage.

my husband came on a k-1 visa sept 2010. His port of entry was JFK and he waiting about 20 minutes in line, he then gave the officer the brown envelope given to him at the consulate and the officer went through it page by page then he got finger prints done. The officer took his passport and all papers and took my husband to a small room and waited about 15 minutes untill they returned his passport stamped back to him and the officer told my husband he can go pick up his luggage and he was free to go.

Middle East and North AfricaMorocco will (hopefully) become one of the Arabian gulf countries
...to henia, u said many bad things about Morocco and Moroccans, and u want us to get rid of our king.First of all before u open ur mouth and talk smack about our king, talk about ur boutaflika and the few military generals who govern the country, they give u freedom of speech, human rights, and a nice life ????? i dont think so.we have a young king hwo is doing alot of political reform, yes we do have many bad people in the government, I personaly hate them and i want them in jail because i love my country and my people, but the king is doing his best.
U also said one funny thing, that Moroccans go to algeria to find jobs, lol well i think its the opposite, all u have to do is go to the city of oujda in the border, and u will see how many algerians are there doing jobs that moroccans dont want to do.im not against algerians,i respect them , and i do know that bad and good people are everywhere, i just want u to get the facts and not open ur mouth with stupid things.finaly, ur making it look like if algeria is the paradise of freedom,i was wondring why algerians are not allowed to go to the streets and do the same as many other arab countries?? why does the algerian government support 100% the libian regime??
if u are proud to be algerian, good for u,me too im proud to be moroccan and i dont want u to talk ####### about my country-simple as that-

Middle East and North AfricaHow tough is Moroccan Consulate on Muslim/Muslim Marriages?

I think that is a good thing and it can definitely help your case. I am a revert and I took my shahada before meeting my husband and we also met on a muslim website and when he went to his interview in casablanca back in 2010 the person who interviewed him asked him many questions about that topic and said that it was a good thing that we both share the same religion, having more in common is always a good thing. good luck

Middle East and North AfricaLet's hear it from spouses of Morocco whose marriages are working!

I married my husband in 2010, he has his citizenship, and since his arrival I stopped working and he is providing for us 100%, He was working and going to school at the same time just to take care of us and we are currently trying to conceive and alhamdulilah we are very close to purchasing our first home together. I know men in morocco have a bad rep but not all of them are the same, my husband is a hard worker and I just couldn't ask for more. Wish everyone the best of luck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp
Hello, I went to Morocco May of 2009 and I didnt file the petition untill March 2010 and we had our interview in July of 2010 and we were approved so it all depends on the reason and by you saying that your wife lost her job I think that is a very good reason, they did ask my fiance this question about why havent i gone to visit him in a long time and he gave her the reason and proof of that reason so just be sure to know what you will answer if they happen to ask you that question and also you will need a co sponsor if she does not work and does not have enough income If you already have one than I dont think you have anything to worry about there are many people with the same problem and they get approved :) goodluck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS RFE?
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there's a timeframe for getting a RFE. I sent Adjustment of Status packet (my husband is here on K-1) on December 29, 2010. Our case since then has been transfered to California Service Center and my husband had Biometrics yesterday. Would we have had a RFE by now? or Can we get an RFE at anytime?
Thanks in advance

Hello, I do think that you should have got your first NOA, Im not sure if you sent it priority or express mail but even if you sent it just regular I think you should of got something by now. They did just change the locations to where you send the petitions to, now its dallas so maybe for this reason its possilbe that its taking a while, hopefully its just that. I really hope that you hear something from them soon, and I would keep calling USCIS to keep checking on it. I know its hard to be patient during this whole K-1 process.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE and originals
Hi,
Its always best to send copies only just in case originals get lost then you will have no proof at all and they do not return anything back to you because my husband gave them some original proofs like cards and letters that I had sent to him for example and they would not return anything that he submitted to them. Good luck through your journey and I hope all goes great.

Got my passport with the CR-1 visa and THE envelope today.

What happens at the airport? Will they take me to a separate room to ask questions? What kind of questions? Can my husband be with me?

Anybody who went through this, I'll appreciate sharing your experience.

Good luck everybody!!!

Congrats!!
I arrived on K-1 in Jan09. I expected the worst but it was fine! I was with my husband (then a fiancee) and we arrived to Chicago with a huge delay so there were hardly any queues. I went to my line and he went to his. After a moment Jaime ran to me because his officer told him to bring me with him ( so don't separate if you two fly together). He went first and he was just a step away from me which made me feel secure. I gave my passport and the famous envelope. The officer opened it, was looking through the staff and he has his book opened and followed his instructions step by step. There was something he wasn't sure of and he went to ask his supervisor but it turned out to be fine. I don't remember him asking me any question. He was busy reading my documents ( I saw pictures of us that my husband submitted in the States- they made quite a journey too ). traditionally a picture and fingerprints and I was in :-) So it was a positive experience. Don't worry, you will be fine. I actually had a very nice welcoming because there was another officer passing us by and he looked at me and the envelope and asked 'Who's the lucky guy? 'And my Jaime answered proudly 'Me!". that was sweet :-) good luck Agnieszka

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDocument Translation
Hi, the way I understand it certified translations can only be done by by a certified (sworn) translator who passed an exam and is registered to do this job and has his licence. The translation of my birth certificate includes each word that appears on an original document ( even stuff like ' illegible signature' and explanation what a round seal says). Down the page there is information about the translator: his address, licence no, fee, stamp, signature, and his statement that the translation is in accordance with he original document. This is the way I did it and no REF. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduressome interview process questions
QUOTE (kgo @ Jul 7 2009, 03:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
so we aren't approved yet, but we are trying to get all the documents ready for my fiance in Australia for when we ARE approved, and we are finding it a little confusing (as usual lol) trying to understand EXACTLY everything he needs after I get the NOA2 in the mail, and at what point he needs each item..

The VJ guides list that the following be sent to my fiance for his interview:
QUOTE
"A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one)."

is this actually necessary? at what point is the entire package used/needed AGAIN?

QUOTE
"Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy."

same question... and what documentary proof is this referring to?

QUOTE
"I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all."

My fiance shows this form at the interview?

Hi, I see your point. We decided to do what they asked for. I wanted to be prepared just in case there is some misunderstanding or some document is missing. At the embassy I was only asked for I-134 Affidavit of Support ( without evidence supporting it) which was sent back to me along with my visa a few days after. My fiancee sent me everything ( he didn't feel comfortable sending so much of his private information by post, but the fear of not doing what we were told was bigger). The good thing was that the package helped me to review details ( like his bio) and it was , in fact, the first time I read our love story he submitted- there were many dates I find hard to remember. Good luck with everything!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDo I need Police Certificates?
QUOTE (mimister @ Nov 10 2009, 09:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi

First I'd like to say thank you for this website, it's really reassuring knowing other couples are going through the same process and for all the information it provides!

I hope someone can help me as I've not found this anywhere.
My question is: I was backpacking around australia for 7 months in 2002. Does this mean I have to provide a police certificate to cover the period I was there for? I was moving from place to place so didn't have a fix address.
I was also in New Zealand for 8 months, working for 3 of them and then backpacking around. So do I have to provide a police certificate for NZ as well?

I am a UK citizen and going through the K1 process.

Thanks

hey, when I was going through my K-1 process in Poland I tried to figure out that issue because I was an au pair in Ireland for 2 school years. My instructions said I need a police certificate if I lived abroad for a year. So maybe , if the rules are the same, you don't need one if you weren't there for more than 12 months. You may call to find out. I was in Ireland for 10 months one year and 8 months the following year. I called the embassy and they told me the consul can sum the periods up so I'd better have it. It took me 1 month to get it (and only because my host family helped me)! Then, when I had it, my mail from the embassy was answered and they said I didn't need it. Imagine my confusion. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1 interview, does the US citizen needs to be present?
You don't receive an interview date, you schedule it by calling the VIS hotline using a 12 dollar pin and scheduling it. There is some flexibility in scheduling this date. I had my fiance schedule the appointment ~3 weeks out since I knew I could get reasonable airfare and time off work with that much notice.

My evidence was affidavits from friends, pictures, gmail chats, skype call records, plane tickets/itineraries, passport stamps, and school records showing we were in the same class when she was in the US. Obviously your evidence will vary. I am not familiar with the IR1 evidence requirements, but for K-1 you must show that you met in the 2 years preceding filing - living together AFTER filing would not help you show that you knew each before filing. Again, IR1 requirements are probably different.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1 interview, does the US citizen needs to be present?
I personally watched a woman denied a spouse visa because her husband was not present. She used the excuse that her husband was busy working in Alaska, and they didn't buy it. I had an accordion file FULL of documentation, and we were able to make it through only because I believe we were both present. I agree with TBone's point that people who haven't dealt with this embassy do not know what it is like. It is manageable, but only by closely following the advice on this forum.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Appointment - Pre-consulate Packet?
QUOTE (MoonStar9913 @ Dec 18 2009, 12:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It may be possible to have her medical before Guayaquil receives it but you must have the Guayaquil case number. If you have that already, you should be able to do the medical. What we did was as soon as we got the case number we called to make the appointment for the medical. We went to Aguilar in Quito. Over the phone we were told that we only needed the case number but when we got to the office the secretary was a little pickier. She wanted the letter from the Consulate. We told her that our lawyers had said we could make the appointment, that they had been in contact with Guayaquil (which was a bit of a fib, they had just gotten the case number from the NVC) and though she was trying to push for the letter, the doctor said that it was no problem, if the lawyers had been in contact then no problem.

This would be my suggestion if there is enough time before your fiancee would be traveling; I would e-mail the consulate to see if they can give you confirmation in an e-mail because if they can then you can print that out and you would have no problems getting the medical with that and your case number. I don't see any reason to wait longer than that because we never even got the Packet 4 in the mail, only the digital version, and the Visa Information Service (VIS) where you call to set your interview might not get your case number for many more weeks I think that that would be the best option.

But, even if you can't get that confirmation e-mail in time, if you have your case number I would suggest trying to get the medical done ahead of time, you might have to fib a bit that you have been in contact with the embassy but if you push and don't admit that you have not, you should have no problem. We were able to get ours done with only the case number.

Good luck, where does your fiancee's family live?

Looks like Guayaquil was sent the paperwork on Friday, I expect they haven't received it yet. However, I was able to get a GYQ case number out of NVC. My fiance is going to try and get the Doctor's appointment in the next 2 or 3 days if possible, otherwise she will have to make the dedicated trip to Quito. By the way, my fiance and her family are from Loja. Thanks for the info, what you did is exactly what we want to do.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Appointment - Pre-consulate Packet?
My fiance is currently living and working in Quito but in 2 weeks she is moving back to her home city which is 10+ hours from Quito/Guayaquil to spend time with her family before moving to the US. We received our NOA2 December 11th so the paperwork is likely a few weeks from making it to the Guayaquil consulate. The consulate only allows the medical examination to happen at 4 approved doctors, 2 of which are in Guayaquil and 2 in Quito which are convenient now, but not once she moves. My question is can she schedule and complete her medical examination in the next 2 weeks while in Quito so she doesn't have to make a special (10+ hour each way) trip to Guayaquil or Quito later? I'd like to save her this extra trip AND also the unpleasantness/danger of the Ecuadorian bus system. Is this possible?

By the way, before anyone says it, I WILL be attending her visa interview, VJ'ers have definitely convinced me of that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Required Before Making Interview Appointment?
My fiance tried to make the consulate appointment for the interview (Guayaquil) today and was told that she couldn't make the consulate appointment before completing her medical examination and obtaining the results. She has her medical scheduled for next week, but I wanted her to schedule the consulate appointment in 2-3 weeks so I could purchase my ticket far enough in advance so I could be with her for the interview. Is it normal to require the completion of medical before allowing the scheduling of the appointment?

I was thinking I could have her call back a second time and state that she wants to speak to a supervisor, just try again, or wait until 72 hours after her interview and try again (I am not patient). Fortunately she estimates we still have only used 2 of our minutes on our phone card.

I assume they just mean the email confirmation you get, which says you've paid. I am sure I've read from others that is what they took to interview. Gmail is blocked here (I'm at work) so gonna take a peek when I get home tonight as I paid mine this morning also.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's all we need. I just wondered because the way they talk about 'The MRV fee receipt' makes it sound like some mystical hand written scroll.

Thanks for your reply! Good luck for your Interview!
