United KingdomWedding Registries - did anyone use them for gifts for the wedding?
We have one at Target, and what's nice about it is that after your wedding you get 10% off everything that is not purchased for you.

We also have a wish list at Urban Outfitters for a few more kitschy things. It works a lot like a registry in that it tells us what people have bought for us, etc.

USCIS Service CentersHave no education? Become a ADJUDICATIONS OFFICER!!

Point taken. I am sure there are lots of security checks to pass as well. My guess is those security checks take a week like any normal job applicant in the private sector, not the 4-6 months it takes the USCIS to figure it out.

No, actually, they're not any faster. I work for the federal government (in a job that requires the *lowest* level of security check). I started February 22 and the results of my security check were received last week. So that's about 3½ months. The difference is that they let me start work while it was pending.

United KingdomI am...
G. was born and raised in Scotland (Dundee specifically), but his Dad's Welsh (born and raised there, moved to Scotland to teach, he and G's mum taught at the same school ... he's now living in England--Derbyshire--with his second wife) ... so G. and his sister both have common Welsh first and last names (hers is Bronwen).

However, he considers himself "British." In fact, he asked me to designate his country as the UK so the profile shows the Union Jack instead of the Saltire. (However, when people ask him where his accent's from, he says "Scotland.")

VietnamEngagement party, is it necessary?
I heard some peeps would pass the interview without engagement party! As long as you have other proofs: emails, hand-written letters, cards, phone bills, pictures of you two together...it will be O.K. I also heard that a lot of peeps DID have engagement party (but fake), but no other proofs would fail the interview. So they know who is real and who is fake at the interview. If you had an engagement party, does not mean you will pass! FYI-

VietnamValidation of immigrant Visa

Well when you receive interview appoiment they will have list of documents that they needed . Just wait until that times right now you need to complete the case first . NVC does have everything you submitted and they will forward them to consulate. My friends told me that you just brings these documents in case if they don't have on file . You always wanted to be safe if you don't have it they might give you blue slip to come back . Also, please write your case number on every documents you submitted to NVC then staple everything together . Good luck !

Thanks for heads-up :)

VietnamValidation of immigrant Visa

The visa is valid for 6months prior to your interview . I think it's dosent matter if you leave close to expiration date as long it's dosent expire . If not you have to contact consulate to reissue the visa
You can schedule medical examination when you have your interview letter . You need to bring your interview letter on the date of your medical examination . The cost is 130 . I saw people do medical examination week before their interview . You can go to cho ray or iom.
Here is the link for the consulate you can find all your info :http://hochiminh.usconsulate.gov/immigrant-visas.html

Your dad might need your recent tax , letter employment , pay stub from you , AOS support , police certificate . I don't know what you send in but when you receive interview letter they will send list what they have and what you need to bring on the date of the interview .
Good luck

Thank you for your response :)
AOS package and IV package (tax returns, letter of employment, pay stubs, police cert, birth cert, etc.) I'm planning to send to NVC to complete Visa process, do I have to resend those same docs to my Dad again? I'm confused because NVC will have all required docs already and NVC will forward the case to HCM. Why he needs to have those again when I already sent to NVC.

VietnamValidation of immigrant Visa

Hi everyone:

Please help me answer following ?'s:

1)How long is immigrant visa (IR-5) valid for from date of issue? Does it matter when you leave Vietnam, closer to expired date is OK or not for this type of visa?
2)When to schedule a medical exam? is it before interview date, what info you need to bring to exam? or you just tell them your NVC case #? Please provide address of place to get medical exam in HCM, and how much does it cost?
3)What civil docs need to be sent from my Dad in Vietnam to me to be submitted to NVC?

Thanks all!

No one knows? No one wants to answer me :( or you're all being busy

VietnamHow Long Medical Exam Papers Valid For?

Yes, that's right. Believe me, I just had interview few months ago. My visa was issued on 12/6/2012, my medical exam dated 11/8/2012. And my visa expires on 5/7/2013.

Thanks for info

VietnamHow Long Medical Exam Papers Valid For?

Medical exam valids for 6 months. And visa expiration date bases on medical exam.

You mean if they issued visa on 01/31/13 and you had medical exam on 01/15/13, your visa would be good until 07/15/13? (for example).

But I heard medical exam is good for 1 year?

VietnamHow Long Medical Exam Papers Valid For?

I believe you may be correct. For some reason I had it mixed up with the police certificate validity period. In other words, the police papers expire in 1 year but the medical papers expire in 6 months. Sorry for the mixup. That was on me :-(

Are you sure?

Does anyone else know for sure on medical exam and IV visa?

Where are the Vietnamese peeps you guys don't come to this forum anymore? :help:

VietnamHow Long Medical Exam Papers Valid For?
I have read somewhere medical exam is only valid for 6 months. Can someone please send a link to confirm this? Is medical exam validation different from countries? I think in Phillipines only valid 6 months. How about Vietnam? Is it one year or 6 mos.?
Also how long is the IR-5 (Parent of US citizen) visa valid for?

VietnamImmigrant Visa
I found out myself from Embassy Website:

.........."There is no assurance in advance that a visa will be issued. Therefore, you are advised not to make any travel arrangements for departure from Vietnam, dispose of your property, give up your job, or buy the airline ticket until you have received your visa. If you have been approved for the visa immediately following the interview, the visa will be delivered via courier service within two weeks. All immigrant visa applicants must use the courier service. Picking up visas in person will no longer be allowed. The delivery fee is either 77,000 VND or 165,000 VND depending upon your shipping address. The fee is payable only in cash VND at the EMS counter in the Consular lobby. Occasionally, visas are not issued immediately due to administrative processing or because of ineligibilities."....................

For real? All types of visas are delivered now? The passports are to be mailed to applicant's home address? What if you live in the village, are they ensured it's going to the right home? I doubt in Vietnam

VietnamImmigrant Visa
Hello everyone!

For Immigrant Visa (IR-5) at HCM Consulate, after the interview do you pick up your Visa in person or do they mail to the applicant's home address?

My wife used to pick hers up @ in person (K-1 Visa). I'm not sure for other types of Visa. Anyone knows?

VietnamVietnam Police Cert

Mine took 2 weeks in Ho Chi Minh City. If your father-in-law has lived at many cities before Hue, it will take longer than others.

Thank you.
Does police cert list places you had lived since age of 16? If so, do you have to answer the same info on your DS230 application?
visaoMaleVietnam2013-04-16 23:48:00
VietnamVietnam Police Cert
How long do you have to wait for police certificate in Vietnam? My father-in-law has been waiting for his for more than 3 weeks and still has not got it. He had to bribe them almost $100. This is in Hue City.

VietnamTwo First Names and Signature
If her full name Le Thi Minh Hieu, then put Minh Hieu T. Le (2 words first name). If named Le Minh Hieu, then Hieu M. Le (Hieu 1st name, Minh being M.I.).

Sign it in her own way, as long as it is true and consistent.

VietnamPaying new USCIS fee $165

You don't get a bill you need to look at your passport with the visa it should have your number there.

https://elis.uscis.d...VEL==

Customers will soon pay the $165 USCIS Immigrant Fee using USCIS ELIS after they receive their immigrant visa package from the Department of State and before they depart for the United States. USCIS ELIS is easy to use and provides direct access to case status updates. New immigrants will also use USCIS ELIS to file future applications and petitions when they become available in the system.

Visa does not show your Alien #.  How do I find out Alien# in order to pay for this fee?

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Police Certificate

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Police Certificate
So, my fiance got his Police Certificate in the mail today. It has one incident on a it...a caution for damage to private property over four years ago. He knew about it, but wasn't sure it would be on there since it was a really minor thing and they had told him it would drop off his record in three years. It still seems to be on the police certificate though, and I am wondering, should I be worried? Will they pay this much heed? He wasn't charged or arrested or anything, but I am worried it may slow down the process or something...

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Will we need a waiver?
Yeah, I didn't think it would be necessary since it was damage to private property and thus exempt from being a CIMT. I think I am just finding things to worry about while waiting. Not a good thing for sure.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Will we need a waiver?
I am still a little confused about this waiver stuff. My fiance also has an incident on his record involving damage to private property. He wasn't fully charged, only cautioned, and he never had to pay a fine. And this was almost 5 years ago. Should we do the waiver or will the police record and an explanation be enough?

United KingdomP85 - Claiming back UK tax when leaving UK permanently
Can I apply for a P85 if I went to the UK for 6 months last year on a work permit and worked steadily for about three? It wouldn't be a great deal, but I have an NI number and definitely paid quite a bit of tax per week...

United KingdomIn theory......
My aunt was trying to convince me to do this, because that's what she did and then worked as a paralegal for an immigration attorney. She told me to have my fiance overstay his visa to make to look more legit that he didn't come here with the intent to get married. She said to get married the day after the 90 days expires and then apply for AOS. I couldn't do it though, I'm too paranoid.

United KingdomWhat do you miss that you never thought you would?
I'm the USC, but I lived in London for a while with my fiance, and here's what I miss:

The shopping, especially of the cheap variety!
British comedy television
The Crystal Maze
Working near Oxford Street, crazy as it was
The tube
Exploring London
20 different music video channels that actually play videos
Well, just Sky itself
The accents
Good curry
The greenery and all the parks
The historicness
The diversity
Gourmet Burger Kitchen
####### seaside towns
TEA!! Cream tea, mmm.
Proper muesli.

There are plenty more, but that's enough for now. :-P
