K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMy fiance is upset

Feeling nervous is a normal reaction, but panicking in advance and imaging worst scenarios is not. Best thing the beneficiary can do for themselves is to relax the day before the interview, not to skip breakfast in the morning before heading for the interview and breathe and keep calm. Body language speaks volumes. If the beneficiary is extremly tense, nervous and sweating, how would the consul interpret it? Just keep your calm, go, answer the questions honestly and straightforwardly and EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE! :) :)

You might also tell her the time (to take off from work) and money you save on this trip will be spent better after you get married :D Isn't that a nice prospect?

I understand she might be disappointed, but you have good reasons (from what I read before). Tell her she'll do fine :) If your relationship is bona fide, there should be no problem. Suggest her to read Manila interviews reviews to see what she might expect. Good luck to your fiancee!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1/ Visiting on AOS Question/Intro

I?m beginning the k-1 paperwork, and to say I?m overwhelmed is an understatement! I?m so glad this forum is here to hopefully help me through the moments when I want to hyperventilate and pee my pants at the same time. smile.png

We got engaged a week ago!!!!

I?ve pretty much got all the paperwork finished, my fiancé and I were together last week so we were able to get all the forms completed together. He went back to England on Tuesday but now the waiting begins!

I just have a quick question (and I?m sure they?ll be many more throughout this journey) once my fiancé enters the country and we get married, do we have to file for an AOS pretty quickly? How long does it take to get the AOS approved? I?m just worried in case my fiancé needs to leave the US to return to England again to finish up the sale of his house, or if we want to go visit his mum in England to celebrate our marriage. How soon after we get married can he legally leave the US to visit the UK again and then come back here to the US?

Wishing everyone much luck on their journeys, and I?m looking forward to getting to know some of you!

Congratulations on your engagement! :)

Read the guides, example forms and instructions on this site and everything will be great! Do things step by step and soon you'll realize it's not as complicated as it seemed at fist ;) Good luck on your visa journey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan the US petitioner move out of the country during the K-1 process?

Personally, I can tell you nothing, because I don't know how Ankara nor Istanbul Embassy is. Maybe folks from Turkey will help with this matter.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan the US petitioner move out of the country during the K-1 process?

He meant 2013 ;) I see no problem. Maybe except this one: are you keeping an employment of yours? Or do you have a sponsor for your fiancee?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1

I read it and I'm like huh?? o.O What does the gender have to do with this at all? You're in it together so you should fill out the paperwork together. Or if it's not possible (you're away from each other at the point of filing; foreign fiance(e) is not fluent in English), most of the work is up to the US Citizen.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshas anyone submitted a letter from the officiant of the upcoming wedding

At the embassy stage of the process we should do as the (specific) Embassy requires. If this is how it goes in Ecuador then go for it, print yourself a nice wedding invitation. Read recent interview reviews and follow their tips. I gathered many many things suggested on here that my Embassy never mentioned anywhere and obviously never asked for at the interview. They asked for the things specified by them on the Embassy website. No photos, no letters of intent to marry, no letters from the employer. So yes, you CAN have too much ;) The conclusion is: just follow the local Embassy specific rules! :)

Good luck! star_smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-797 received, what to send to my fiancee and when?

The petitioner submits their birth certificate in the I-129F packet. At the interview it's the beneficiary's birt certificate they require, so no need for you to send your birth certificate again.

Some advices here tell us to send a letter of intent to marry signed and dated after NOA2. I did all this and it was never asked for. You'd do better if you consulted the website of the Embassy in Moscow and Moscow Embassy info on VJ. At the embassy stage of the process it's best to do as the embassy requires, and they all have their own rules ;)

If You have everything ready, there is no need to wait for the case number. Just ship it to your fiancee :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 packet instructions before interview? What exactly do I send?

The PDF file you attached contains the checklist and Statement that needs to be filled out and signed and then sent back to the Embassy. Yes, put checkmarks.

You only need DS 230 Part I.

HTH, good luck :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOrganizing for Submittal

Hello. To answer your questions:

1) Doesn't matter;

2) You send check/money order. It's best to attach it to the cover letter you'll put on top of everything else;

3) Doesn't matter. They will take everything out of the envelope and organize stuff in their own folder.

4) As long as you have primary evidence of your meeting within last 2 years such as boarding passes, passport stamps, etc. you have more than enough.

HTH :) Good luck!

You better ask on forum for France. Every embassy proceeds by their own rules. Perhaps you don't need it. Are you sure you can't download packet 3 from the embassy website? Just a hint.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBiggest Age Difference

I respectfully disagree.  It is très pertinent.

The reference to Joseph and Mary relate to the cultural mores of that time.  This discussion is about cultural mores albeit more about geographical differences than chronological differences, as different countries and perhaps different religions think differently about the subject.

But the reference shows that indeed the differences, especially historically can be huge as the age difference between Joseph and Mary was 75.5 years, though one must be careful--this is the age difference between when the bible says the marriage was consummated.  They became betrothed at an age difference of 77.5 years.

Indeed things have changed and most countries and most religions would now consider such a union taboo.  But I, for one, dif find Laurka's post food for thought.

Hi Steven and Juliet. What you quoted from my post was about something else. I didn't mean the aspect you brought up, but now after all these weeks I would have to read the whole conversation from the start to remember. I'm pretty sure I referred to some other aspect of Catholicism mentioned in the discussion.

LaurkaFemalePoland2013-05-23 11:12:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBiggest Age Difference

To all of those here truely IN LOVE, there are no guarantees in life but LOVE is a blessing. To all those devote Catholics who frown upon us, ask your Priest how old Joseph was and how young Mary was.
God bless everyone here and may the Heart lead us all on our own journies.

Leave Catholicism out of this, s'il vous plait :)
I'm following the topic, because I was interested in what people have to say about age difference, but the discussion has turned into what it's like in the Philippines. Never been there, but I'd go visit if I had ton of money for traveling around the world ;) But Catholicism shouldn't be brought up like this as it has nothing to do with the issue; rather cultural and individual prejudices.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBiggest Age Difference

OK. I am a Filipina & USC-Petitioner. I turned 55 years old today. He is 30. Here in the Philippines, not only do we turn heads but we also turn what is inside their heads. It is so easy to conclude, bash people, and snicker. Makes other people feel "superior" when they look down on people for whatever reason.

Is it a gamble? What is not a gamble? I was married for 28 years, separated the last few years of the marriage before divorce went final. Was that a gamble?

I came to the Philippines to visit family and what was a 2 week vacation turned into living here for many years. On my 2nd year living in the Philippines, I met someone who became my best friend. Did I plan this? No. Did he plan to become involved with me? No. We did our best to resist being together because of obvious reasons--big age difference and the problems it brings with it. We tried not seeing each other. We tried being "just friends" and that was miserable. We are happiest when we were together.

Do we have problems? Disagreements? Is our relationship dysfunctional? Are we both dysfunctional? Are we both crazy, irresponsible, stupid and foolish? Foolish maybe but definitely not stupid.

Is he after money? A GC? A better life? I would give him the world if I could. Why? Because he inspires me. He is the one who got me to dance. And dance we did... that I lost a bunch of weight. I look much younger and sexier than my classmates. I am glowing. I am happy. He makes me laugh.

I did not even know how miserable I was until I knew what being happy is. They say: It is in knowing what you do not want that you know what you want. This is what I want. This is what I prayed for and God answered my prayers. But God, in His Infinite Wisdom and Mercy, not only gave me what I wanted but what I needed. Just that my God also has a funny sense of humor and does the unexpected. He is the God of Surprises. (My Ways are not your ways.) We are a perfect fit, just that he is... much younger than me. God, you are tooo funny!

So, I tell those around me... "even if you do not understand, condone or agree with my choice, just be happy for me because I am happy."

Today is my 55th birthday. And my Surprise Birthday Present? We got our NOA2.

Peace!

Congratulations on your NOA2! I wish you happy birthday and I know it already is! :star:

Good luck to all the honest people out there who just want to be together with people they trully love.

For all the other cases, I wish the USCIS had a lie detector to immediatly reject those petitions, which are fraudulent.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBiggest Age Difference

My fiancée and I are 27 years apart. The age difference is not a big deal in her home county (Philippines), but it raises eyebrows here in the U.S. My kids from my first marriage are not at all accepting of our relationship. My fiancée is 3 days younger than my daughter.

How would you feel if you were them? Would you be so accepting?

No, they just have my word on it. I know they would love her if they met her, but it's not possible right now. When all this is said and done, they'll see how wrong they were. Until then, I can get support here. :)

So that's probably the main reason. Once they see you two together and see how well you get along, they will understand :]

I can't tell you all how heartening this is to hear. Everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy marrying a woman 25 years younger than me, and I tell him that age doesn't matter, it's what you feel in your heart. Thank you all for proving that I'm right. I'm getting no support for my relationship at all from people I know and love (except for my girl of course) so at least I can come somewhere where I can see in action what I know in my heart to be true. :)

Did they meet her? Got to know her?

Wow and I thought 12 years difference was a lot before I met my Fiance in person ;) It turned out we get along so well it doesn't matter at all.
So I understand finding one's soul mate in a person that's far away from our own age, but on the other hand... don't you folks fear the future a little? (the question is for those who are in love with the older person)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhere to send I-129F

It depends on where the petitioner lives. I sent mine to Texas (being in Florida) and they end up transfering it to the corresponding office. (Mine ended up being Vermont). If it says Texas because of the state you live in, send it there.

What are you talking about? I think you're confusing something. It doesn't matter when one lives. ALL I-129F packets go to one of the follwing addresses:

For U.S. Postal Service (USPS):
USCIS
P.O. Box 660151
Dallas, TX 75266

For USPS Express Mail and courier deliveries:
USCIS
Attn: I-129F
2501 South State Highway 121 Business
Suite 400
Lewisville, TX 75067

The only difference is the service you choose to use (USPS or USPS Express Mail or courier).
Then, depending on what state the petitioner lives in, the case is forwarded to California Service Center or Vermont Service Center.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat happens at nvc (k1)

We got our noa2 April 15. When I called nvc they didn't have it yet. I'm really confused what I'm suppose to be doing now and about what happens at nvc. I posted this same question but I think it was in the wrong forum because I was told nvc collects my fees and affidavit of support info. I don't think that is correct for a k1 visa. Can someone tell me what I'm suppose to be doing and how to get our interview? And what nvc does? Should I be worried they don't have my case at nvc yet? Thanks.

Try calling NVC again later this week. NVC assignes a case number and forwards your petition to the proper Embassy.

When my Fiance called the first time, a week after NOA2 they said they don't have it yet. He called a week later and was told the petition left NVC couple days earlier. They gave him the case number.

Ok, I just went thru this, just call everyday takes usally a week or too, they will say :

a. they don't have it yet, u say thank you I'll try again

b. We just recieved it today, call back in a week or two(always call everyday)

c. Ask you questions about you and your fiance, then provide you with MNL#

Hope this helps, they will tell you it takes 3 weeks blah blah, just kindly say thank you and call back the next day, good luck

You need this MNL before you can schedule your interview, and no you don't have to pay the NVC anything.

They won't have a MNL number, they're from Nigeria! If you haven't realized yet MNL stands for Manila.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy location has been changed

Not every embassy is equipped to deal with K-1 visas.  A lot of people have to travel to another embassy.  Iranian applicants go through Ankara, Turkey.  Many African countries go through Kenya, I believe, and have to travel far there.  Even within the same country, people have to travel far sometimes. Most Canadian applicants have to travel to Montreal, an Russian applicants to Moscow.  There are good reasons for this... do you think the US should use more of their money to have year-round embassies in every city so that K-1 visa seekers, a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, have slightly more convenience?

wow.gif I don't think you get my point. My point is it's a joke that people from Belarus have to first OBTAIN A VISA TO POLAND in order to present themselves at an interview FOR A VISA TO THE UNITED STATES. All I'm saying is they should be granted some kind of waiver -- passport should be enough!

Do Canadians have to have a VISA to go to Montreal? No. Do Russians need a visa to go to Moscow? No. Your arguments are invalid.

I know and everybody here knows it perfectly that the whole process is costly and loaded with difficulties and obstacles to conquer. And we are here because we're in similar situations and the forum is for support and help. Good luck on your journey! star_smile.gif

After having read your post as well as information on the Embassy website, I'm shocked and outraged! It's just ridiculous that in order to obtain a fiance visa to the United States Belarous citizens have to come to Warsaw and they need visas to enter Polad too!! :o Who came up with this idea?! Perhaps call the US Embassy in Warsaw to inquire about that. Here are numbers for people calling from Belarus 8 820 0011 0261 or 703 988 7108. Tell your Fiancee to do it on Monday, because today is a national holiday in Poland and the Embassy is closed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWedding venue booked - need visa within 10 weeks of NOA2. Help!

Kind VisaJourney friends, here's our situation:

If at all possible, we want to get married in Columbus, Ohio on August 9th. (The venue's booked; all the key people from both families can be there for that date; some have already booked tickets; we've been praying for that date for a long time).

We received our NOA 2 on 15th May

If we can get the visa granted by the end of July, it would be a dream come true.

Mainly we want to know:

How can we maximise our chances of making this happen in time??

Also, is this so risky, that we should cancel this wedding date right now?

Thank you everyone :-)

Christian and Cammy

(Sydney & Columbus)

Do you have your case number from NVC yet? You still have some probability of that happening, but almost everything depends on Sydney Embassy now. My visa was issued exactly a month after NOA2. My Embassy is a fast working one and I had everything ready for the interview in advance. And me and my Fiance had a date booked for our wedding, but no deposits made. So it's not impossible, but you have to take into consideration several factors. Personally, I knew things would start moving fast for me once we get NOA2, but Embassies make colossal difference. Make sure you have paperwork ready on your part first. Good luck! rose.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIt's not meant to be rude. Just a general observation.

Before anybody jumps to (wrong) conclusions (if they haven't yet ;) ), I ask questions myself. Have asked quite a few this past month (but mostly not on VJ though). I'm at the Embassy level and the Embassy in my country changed the rules on scheduling the interview not long ago, so people like me are often confused about how to proceed and folks who went through the same process only a year ago can't really give advice, because it's different now. Can't even count the times I spoke with consultants on the infoline service these two past weeks LOL Once I even found out that some info given on the Embassy website and given on a form to be printed is no longer up-to-date and still hasn't been updated. The only way to learn what it was all about was to make a phone call :/

So YES, I know how this process is and I know about asking questions content.gif

But after all, what is better and more effective? To post on the forum "How to contact my Representative?" and wait for somebody to answer or to type the same question in search engine like Google and get the immediate result? :>

LaurkaFemalePoland2013-05-13 07:07:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIt's not meant to be rude. Just a general observation.

While I think this complaint is universal on any forum, it is possible that VJ just might be the exception. I am an engineer, meaning that allegedly I am not an idiot:) I also have 25 years experience writing technical documentation. I spent hours reading the guides and everything else here, yet still had questions. The knowledge that any mistake would be flagged by USCIS makes us all cautious and hesitant. So I asked a question or two.

Hell I am embarrassed to admit it but it took me about an hour to find the link to Igor's list that everyone was referring to.

A few months after I filed my petition my friend (another allegedly smart engineer) filed a petition for his fiancee. He read all the guides here too. Yes he was constantly pinging me asking questions.

Add to this the fact that for many members here English is not their first language. So let's cut people a little slack. As it's often said this is a difficult and stressful process!

You see, this is perfectly fine! This is the intelligent way to do it. You just said it. First read on your own, then when it's not clear you ask for explanations. That's the way it should go.I couldn't find Igor's list myself for quite some time, but I did. Somebody pasted the link to it and I saved it to my favorites! smile.png When I first started reading VJ, I had problems understanding many things: not the guides, but the VJ jargon with all its abbreviations(CSC, VSC, USC, AoS, AP, etc. you know what I'm talking about! Oh well, you just take some time to decode them and everything becomes clear smile.png

Second thing you mentioned here is the language barrier. I think it's very important that you highlighted it here. It is understandable when a foreign beneficiary wants to learn something for themselves and they're not fluent in English. But their USC fiance(e) should be helping them, shouldn't he/she? ;-) Anyway, this is cool and easily detectable by the way a post/question is formulated and we're not refusing them answers.

I do not think the OP was referring to questions people still have and ask about even after reading the form instructions and guides. I believe they were speaking about the basics such as what the filing fee is or what the mailing address is. The things that are clearly stated on the USCIS website and in the form instructions that everyone should read before filling out any form. That is the purpose of form instructions and are still asked constantly and those are definitely also easy to find with a simple search.

I also find it frustrating when someone asks a question, gets it answered and then asks it again, either right away, days, weeks or months later. I recently bowed out of a thread because I felt it was just going around in circles. You try to help and explain things, yet the same questions you and others just answered are asked again and again in the very same thread right after the answers and helpful links are provided.

Yes, you feel me! This is my point, this is what I'm talking about. I'm not against asking questions! I underlined it in my original post. The forum's very purpose is to do so. I was talking about the basics.

People sometimes don't discover this site until they have sent their petition and want to know whether they got it right, others need reassurance that while they feel they're doing the right thing, that their interpretation is correct and does apply to their own circumstances.   and we have seen where someone has sent in all the requirements but been sent an RFE, which just proves that the process is not always consistent.

It can be stressful and the petitioner may may just want some support - I agree that if you don't want to answer those ones... move on.

The more you read on VJ, the more you learn. Its easier to be an expert by the end of the process ... than at the beginning.

Yes, it's true, and that's why we give this support! smile.png

In other words just because a question is answered doesn't mean it answered the question and might need to be repeated.

I see it is a frustration to you and the solution is simple, don't read the duplicates.  There are others on here who it does not bother and they will answer the questions to help. We all have our pet peeves and this is one of yours and that is fine but it won't change and I am not sure it should.  The open arms aspect of this community is what makes it special and unique.

Just my 2 cents worth

The first is true, but doesn't apply to my original post. The problem I stated is when a question that is asked has been answered clearly and plainly dozen times on the first two pages of the forum wink.png

And why I read duplicates and will continue to read them? Because when I see a subject of the topic (e.g. "Question 18"/"How we met question") I can't be 100% sure if it's the same simple question all over again or it has something very individual, specific and personal to it. Most of them don't, but some do. And if I can help, I always will.

Everyone here has different needs, so I don't really mind seeing a question come up that might be answered elsewhere.Sometimes there is a new way to say it, and it might relate better to ones mindset. But wasting space complaining about it is the same as complaining that you're tired of seeing a question about how slow approvals are coming , or that others are posting their Noa2 .being able to accept others shortcomings shows strength of character . Btw my smartphone has access to the full site . I would say its just that people like to relate to others no matter how simple the question.let's be patient with each other and remember this should be a place to support each other through a difficult time.

I don't think I'm wasting space by calling to read the guides and encouraging to do research (at least minimum amount of it), before posting. If I'm wrong then forum Administrators can remove the whole thread if they find it irrelevant or unnecessary wink.png I simply wanted to formulate my opinion as I've been lately seeing more and more posts of other members showing signs of similar feelings.

And to sum up: It doesn't matter at what point of one's journey VJ is discovered. USCIS website (concerning forms, not processing times wink.png ) and a local Embassy/Consulate website is one's primary source of information. VJ is secondary, but much much MUCH needed and providing invaluable help and support that is hard to find somewhere else. It's normal that more and more questions come with every next step we take in the process and we have to acquire new information all the time. This is unavoidable. What can be avoided is a question that would answer itself if you read the instructions or searched through USCIS website for packet filing address. That's all.
I like you VJ folks a lot goofy.gif Let's have a great week. I look forward to what it may bring me on my visa journey wink.png

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIt's not meant to be rude. Just a general observation.

I chalk all of this up to folk using a handphone.

I say ditch it, come back to VJ on a PC, instead.

Handphones SUCK for VJ usage, one misses 80 percent of the functionality of the site when using a handphone.

Oh so your point is when folks go on VJ on their mobile devices (like smartphones or tablets) they don't see the full content of the website and hence the mess? I see. That's a very good point I'd say. Still, it doesn't really excuse anybody from doing some research first! ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIt's not meant to be rude. Just a general observation.

I'm not starting this topic to offend anybody or to start a beef just for the beef sake. After several months of being on this very helpful forum (it's a life saver in many cases! :) ), I have this general observation that people do not even bother to read instructions and guides. It seems they don't even bother to use a search engine to look for answers to their questions, but just bluntly create a new topic to ask their question that has been asked 3 to 5 times the very same day. Sometimes there are several topics one under the other(s) about the same thing. It makes the forum bigger and bigger mess every day.

I know this process is long, exhausting and above all confusing at many points. It really is and also has been for me. I always try to help whenever I'm logged in and I'm able to help (when I know how), because this is the main purpose of the forum -- to help and support each other. But even earlier today I read posts in a topic from more experienced forum members that the question about Texas lockobx and Texas Sevice Center comes up way too often and perhaps should be pinned somewhere to be visible. When I browse through the K1 forum, I see more and more replies that are only like "Read the guides" or "Follow this link", because these are basic questions!

It's all there in the Guides, in the Downloads, on the Visa FAQs etc. My plead for new users especially is to first research and read, and then if your question/issue is still not answered or it's very specific to formulate a question on the forum.

I wish you all a good day and above all as smooth visa journey as possible! star_smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

She should not bring loads of clothes with her for a short visit. That will ring all kinds of alarm bells with customs/immigration. Especially if she brings unseasonal clothes e.g summer clothes when visiting in March.

When I came in for 6 weeks in December, I traveled reasonably light - just under the allowed weight. Customs did look down at my luggage as if to ascertain whether it was appropriate for a 6 week visit over Christmas - see my full report at beginning of December in this thread. I am still here as we still have not got our NOA2 despite it being 6 months tomorrow since we got our NOA1 from CSC.

Oh c'mon! One can't tell a WOMAN not to travel with a suitcase full of clothes for different occasions even if it's a short stay. 2 big bags for 5 days maybe would be suspicious but not if she plans on staying 2 weeks! Relax :-)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List

Somebody yesterday reported an identical message on the forum. They must be doing something with the database. Just wait for the hardcopy and come back to the online status check in few days :) Good luck!
