US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 ... May 2009 Applicants
QUOTE (PRK73 @ Aug 12 2009, 03:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Regarding Atlanta DO, this is my observation after going through different websites and forums, nobody from Atlanta DO
has received interview letter after 1st week of May filers. Just after May 4 or May 5, it has come to standstill.

I am June filer and I am sincerly hoping all May filers get interview letters fast.

Regarding CFR, everyone does not get CFR. CFR is bascially stating that case file was reviewed
and it asks to bring some extra (or may not be extra) documents whenever the interview is
scheduled.

Good luck to all!!!

I've noticed that inconsistency, too. As for the CFR - there seems to be no system on who gets one and who doesn't and the letter itself looks pretty much generic.
I submitted plenty of evidence for a bonafide marriage and I'll certainly bring all the originals from the copies to the interview.
Anyway - I look forward to getting my IL soon! star_smile.gif
Kathryn41 - good luck for your interview today!! good.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionTravelling during Naturalization process
Hi Lika,
you can travel while your N-400 is pending. If you leave after your Biometrics appt. and you are back within 3 weeks you will be fine. After the fingerprint appt. it takes some time before they mail out the interview letter.
But to be on the safe side, you may want to ask someone to watch your mail in case you receive something from USCIS during your absence and you have to come back prematurely.
Remember the departure and return dates as you'll have to inform the IO at the interview about your international travel.
Gute Reise, imzadi star_smile.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionVoter's Registration Card.....How long for such?...
Hi Ant,
I think too that the processing times vary with each county office.
I mailed my voter's application on Nov. 2nd and received the precinct card on Nov. 27th (it took 25 days).
Another possibility is that due to the Christmas and New Year holidays there was a slowdown.
But don't worry - I'm sure you will receive the card soon.
Happy New Year  (sorry it's a little late; been travelling ...)!

US Citizenship General Discussionquestions to be asked

ok...less than a week until the interview, and the nerves are kicking in.
just to double-check:

the 100 questions that are on the CD and in the study guide are the only questions they are allowed to ask?
A friend insists that they asked other things during his interview....

Hi flsusi,
You only need to know the answers on the CD - they are also highlighted in the study booklet. You aren't asked about the extra lessons that go with each question; they are only for personal interest. Only the highlighted portions are necessary for the interview.
The IO will also ask you to read and write one sentence in English and he'll go through the application with you.
I can understand you are getting nervous - I felt the same way as my big day came closer and closer.
But don't worry - if you are prepared well, it's a piece of cake; just a formality.
Let us know how your interview went.
Viel Glueck!

I am a US citizen as of today, too! good.gif Yippiiee!! kicking.gif
Had successfully completed my interview and had the Oath Ceremony in the afternoon! Absolutely great! star_smile.gif

Well, here's my report (it's getting quite a little late, but I thought I post my experience as long as it is fresh in my memory ...):
My appointment was at 8:45 a.m., but my husband and I left the house early at 6:15. We didn't want to take any chances with the Atlanta traffic (which is mostly crazy). It's about an hour to drive to the USCIS building. We had smooth traffic and so we arrived way too early (of course); anyway, still time for breakfast nearby ...
We checked into the building at 8:15, went through airport-style security and got up to the 2nd floor.
Shortly after dropping my appt. letter I was sent up to the 3rd floor. Room was pretty crowded already, and I had to wait until ca. 9:40 until my name was called.
The officer - a middle-aged, soft spoken man - was very nice and professional; did some small talk while we walked to his office. My husband had to wait in the waiting area in the meantime.
First he placed me under oath, asked to see my Green Card, passport and driver's license - the only documents he wanted to see, didn't ask for anything else. Funny, I had a ca. 10 lb. bag full of documents with me .... wink.gif
Then he asked some of the basic questions, e.g. if I'm still married and living with my husband etc.

He did the English and Civics test with me - I had to read the sentence "Where is the White House?" and to write "The White House is in Washington, D.C."
The Civics questions were the following:
-) What is an amendment?
-) Who vetoes bills?
-) What do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance?
-) What is the supreme law of the land?
-) Who did the United States fight in World War II?
-) What is the capital of your state?

Didn't ask the remaining 4 questions since I got the 6 allright.
Then he went through my application, I verified that everything was correct. I updated my international travelling (I flew to Austria once since I filed N-400). Asked me some - not all - of the Yes/No questions.
When we were finished, he marked on the N-652 that I passed and I was recommended for approval.
The officer told me there would be an oath ceremony in the afternoon and sent me down to the 2nd floor where I would receive the N-445 (oath letter) shortly.
The interview was quite short; I was in and out in ca. 15 minutes.
YAY - I was sooo happy! good.gif Everything went fine! star_smile.gif
The ceremony was scheduled for 2 p.m. so hubby and I had plenty of time for lunch.
We were asked to be in the waiting room for the ceremony by 1 p.m. what we did. The citizens-to-be were then separated from the family in the waiting area. We walked into the ceremony room, dropped the oath letter and we were given cards with numbers to match the seat number. I was lucky to get a really cool seat in the first row! star_smile.gif
There were little booklets, a US flag and some pieces of paper laid out on the chairs.
The relatives were just let in after all the applicants were seated - there weren't even enough chairs for everyone.
Anyway, my husband took some photos of me.
The ceremony began with a delay (I don't remember exactly when). The woman who performed the ceremony gave an introduction speech about the importance of citizenship etc. We were 183 people from 57 countries.
She then named our native countries and asked everyone to stand up and remain standing as soon as one's country of origin would be called. Mine (Austria) was the first; it would turn out to be wrong shortly thereafter since there was a man from Australia and she had forgotten to call the country ...
Our host administered the Oath of Allegiance which we repeated after her and read from the paper. Then she asked if someone is willing to step forward and do the Pledge of Allegiance. A young man did and we repeated the pledge after him.
After that we watched a video of past immigrants and the history of immigration, followed by a speech of President Obama and a video to the song "God bless the USA" from Lee Greenwood. I love that song! star_smile.gif I sang along with it whistling.gif
Oddly enough "The Star Spangled Banner" was not played - was kinda surprised about that.
The ceremony host sent family members back out into the waiting room and told us we can pick up our Certificates of Citizenship on the way out. We did that in the same order we came into the room.
The ceremony was finished by 3:20 p.m. and my hubby took pictures of me with the certificate.

I am so happy - everything went well! good.gif I couldn't have wished any better! kicking.gif
I can't believe the excitement is over!
We did some celebrating later in the evening. A day like that goes by way too quickly!
Next steps are Passport, Social Security update and Voter Registration ....

Sorry my post got so long. Normally I don't write "novels" like that. I also apologize for spelling/grammar errors - it's getting late and I'm a little tired ...

P.S.: Would somebody update my info (today's oath) in the list, please? Thanks in advance!
Good night, imzadi sleep.gif

@ PRK73: You may have some good news in your mailbox today, too. We had the change in our case status online at the same day. Maybe this also goes for the IL.

My online status has changed to the following. I think Atlanta DO has finally reached June filers. Hoping to get interview letter within next 1-2 weeks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Application Type: N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION

Current Status: This case has been sent for a standard interview.

Your case has been transferred to a local office and an interview will be scheduled. As part of our standard processing you will be sent a notice when the interview is scheduled, or if the office needs something from you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Same with me. star_smile.gif I did quite not receive an e-mail from CRIS, but I've been checking the online case status regularly. Now we can be really sure our ILs are coming soon. Glad to see some movement again! good.gif

I may have to do this, too. I had my bios even before you, got the yellow letter on Aug 8 and nothing since.
Let's hope our IL's didn't get lost in the mail.

I was hoping for a decision today. I just have to wait!!

Good luck guys!

Congrats to your passed English and Civics test! Maybe the IO needs a green light from the supervisor first - could be a reason why she didn't give you the decision right away. I'm sure you'll hear from them pretty soon.

I successfully completed my interview yesterday in San Diego, downtown. My interview was at 12:45 pm and I arrived at 12:40 pm. (I should have come early...but there was lot for traffic and had difficult time get a parking spot). Anyway I was called in at 12:42 and IO was very nice. At first I was asked to take the oath and then he went through the application. I made one international trip since I applied, but the IO was not interested in that so I did not bother to mention that. He just asked me whether I will bear arms in case I need to, to which I answered "yes". Then he took the test, asked me 6 questions (very simple questions...# of senetors, age for voting, ...i don't remeber others). Then he congratulated me for passing the test and said that he is recommending me for approval. I was out of the office in less than 10 minutes.

I asked the IO to put me to oath on wednesday (19th August), but he said there is a 10 day cut off date so he cannot put me in. He said that I will get the oath letter in mail in next couple of weeks.

In all very pleasant experience. Just wished if I could get my oath done sooner, but that's ok....

Congrats Gopal! Looks like you had a "piece of cake" interview! kicking.gif

I got my yellow CFR letter. It is very generic and asks me to bring original plus English translation of the all foreign language documents.

During my greencard process, I had submitted my birth certificate in my native language. I think they are talking about that.

Hi PRK73,
good to see you got a "life sign" too. My yellow letter asked for that as well (foreign language documents plus English translation).
I am also asked to bring 2 passport-style photographs with that specific requirements to the interview - I had already submitted them in the N-400 package. unsure.gif
But I'll bring them anyway since I'm going to need photos for the passport application ...

I have heard two variations of CFR: Complete File Review or Case File Review
Everyone doesn't get it. Only in the cases where USCIS finds that applicant needs to bring some extra documents, they send CFR, before
sending interview letter.

I think CFR means Case File Review, but the letter looks generic because the items asked to bring to the interview I have already submitted with my application (the copies anyway). I'm going to bring all the originals with me.
Good luck to us all - hopefully our ILs will be streaming in soon! star_smile.gif

Hi Sven,

Hi Sven,
bills are ok - you can also bring joint bank account statements, letters written to both of you, leases, mortgages, insurances etc., everything that shows both your names on it;
photos of both of you together, trips you took together (i.e. I had boarding passes that showed adjacent seats).
Oh, and don't forget the tax returns - they should show "married filing jointly".

It looks like a normal time frame to me - I remember I received my yellow letter about 5 weeks prior to the interview letter. But this was last year and it was the Atlanta Field Office.
You can check with the timelines of people who filed in the same month you did - that gives you sort of a comparison.

US Citizenship General DiscussionChanging to 'citizen' as Social Security

Hmm, interesting. When the woman at SSA told me I would get a new card in the mail I said that the one I had was still fine - wasn't marked as restricted or anything. She said, nope, you'll get a new card. Maybe there had been a design change in between my original and the new one and they were updating it because of that? No idea. If you want a new card you can request one. You are allowed to have them replaced fairly regularly and on a far more generous scale than I would have expected :D .

Neither was mine - that could explain why I didn't get a new one.
Thanks for your input. :star:

US Citizenship General DiscussionChanging to 'citizen' as Social Security

They will take a copy of your citizenship document for their records as well so it is good to do this before you send away for your US passport. You will also want to change your status with your Department of Driver Services or whoever issues Drivers' Licenses as well and they too will need to see your citizenship document even though they will also verify the information either with SSA or with USCIS. If you register to vote you have the option of using your driver's license for identification if you don't want to send in your certificate - they will check with the DL department and if you are not listed as a citizen with them they will send you a strongly worded letter advising you to bring in the proof of your citizenship to them otherwise face the consequences when they send your report in for investigation - at least that is what happened to me :P . I quickly went and updated my DL information and took in my certificate to the Voter's Registration. As I had only renewed my DL several months before I got my citizenship and it was still valid for another 3 years I didn't think I needed to update it right away. I was wrong :D .

You will get a brand new SSN card when you become a citizen whether you want the new card or not - mine looked different from the other card I had although I don't know if it was because they re-designed it for everyone or the citizenship one was designed differently.

That's what happened to me, too ...
But when I went to the SSA to update my status as USC they made a copy of my Certificate, but I never received a new SSN card. A mishap perhaps ?
