IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOdd Question

Thank you all for your help.

I'm guessing he will have to bring his car across? He has the intention of selling the car in Canada and thought he could perhaps not import it but still drive it back and forth for awhile. Doesn't sound like that's realistic?

My "guess" is he can still take his car across but would not be able to insure it in the U.S. once Canadian insurance expired.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOdd Question
We have very comparable situations. Border town as well as waiting for our interview date.

I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong but if I'm not mistaken the next time he goes down he will have to immigrate as his passport I believe will have the visa attached. Not a big deal however as he can freely travel back and forth after that. It is also my understanding that with exception of vehicles, you have up to 10 years to move personal belongings. So the only real issue with date of immigration from my viewpoint is taxation and vehicles.

Regarding work I'm also quite certain he can continue working here. I'm just not clear on the downside to that other than earned currency. I believe also his medical will cease to be in effect in Canada upon immigration.

I am interested in what else others can contribute . . . or correct

They are having their interview in the states.
I suppose it would have to have some pretty special circumstances to do so.

Beats the heck out of flying across the country but I wouldn't begin to speculate any prevailing circumstances which brought it about. The simple fact is it doesn't follow standard protocol which is what the lawyer had eluded to.

re: post 1.
Wow. Seriously?
Did you share the visa type with said lawyer? or no?

I did attempt to clarify it was a marriage visa, CR1 specifically and not a Fiance visa. And she did ask if we were already married. Yeah, cus that was my first thought. She's confused.

Pot is legal in Canada. She's smoking when giving you advice, apparently.

LOL!! Given the family she comes from I'm doubtful of that. I'm just not sure how long she has been in the business.

For immigration visas you MUST have an interview and medical. No way around it, no phone interview.

There is no questioning the medical but I'm curious why my friends immigration lawyer daughter would suggest she's had clients attain Visas without interviews if it weren't true. You're suggesting she is misinforming me? Just for the record, I have not retained her services nor have any intentions of doing so. The discussion just happened innocently.

I've just always heard they only do K1 Visas in Vancouver. Don't ask me why. Good point on the medical however, that would obviously have to be submitted somewhere.

I just got off the phone with a friends daughter who is a CAD/USA immigration lawyer. She suggested she has had clients who have not even had to undergo an interview when immigrating to the US. She also suggested I should contact the NVC and request either a phone interview or one closer to the west coast as I live just outside Vancouver.

With a CR1 Visa, has anyone ever heard of such a request being honored? Would such a request now delay the imminent scheduling of a potential early December interview? :help:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIs this portfolio acceptable at the Montreal Consulate?
Well it helps protect papers from the weather. I'm just not sure if it's too big for the consulate. I know they won't allow a briefcase or large ladies purses. Not that I would consider carrying a large ladies purse or a small ladies large purse for that matter :P

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCost of Medical Exam in Canada?

WOW. So for me and two little people we are talking $700-$900 just for the medical exams? And there is no way to get the medical done with your own family doctor? Can I knock the price down by at least getting some of the shots done with my doctor first and providing the records?

Medical exam has to be done by authorized MD's http://travel.state..../info_3739.html

Shots can be done anywhere. Just ensure you have record of them upon arrival for your exam.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSpousal or Fiance? Help!
We are amidst the CR-1 route for reasons as most others have mentioned:

- virtually the same time frame
- Green card in hand essentially upon arrival
- more cost efficient

We live under an hour apart by car and one of us has crossed every weekend for the last couple years. One crossing to which I phoned and inquired on my circumstances once married, advised me they would not permit me to cross as I was deemed "high risk". I chose not to cross for a few weeks and my spouse rather crossed instead. I then chanced another local crossing and have since not had issues at all, even though all facts were presented to them. So yes, any given Officer has the right to refuse you entry but it appears also certain crossings may be much more strict.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs my Loomis # the same as my Reference ID #??
Not sure exactly what you're asking as you don't technically have a Loomis#, you only have a reference ID. That number however can be used in the Loomis office to pick up your parcel.
