United KingdomHopefully this wont be a problem...
I've read lots of reviews and this only appears to have happened to me to my knowledge  Having said that she did also say "we will have to go look for them"..she asked if I had copies (think she looked at my massive file) which I did and we got on with it.

Don't worry about it too much. I'm sure my papers are somewhere as I don't think I would have got an interview if someone hadn't at least looked at them.....

United KingdomVisiting UK after NOA1
I second what Nich-Nick said. Ricky visited me after the NOA1 and it wasn't an issue. I went there when I was awaiting my interview and that was a problem either.

United KingdomUpcoming PM elections...
As a civil servant working in eerrr "crime" have to say the Tories coming into power is NOT great news. Means massive cuts jobwise for an already understaffed area of work.

I thought Brown's 'last hurrah' speech to the party faithful was excellent. If only he had shown that fight during the election.

I agree that the coalition could be interesting. I am, however, sure that a lot of Lib Dem voters are wholly disappointed. Next election time should be interesting.

United KingdomDoes your S.O. go on VJ?
Ricky does not use VJ although he has access to this account - he's really not interested. He knows that I look stuff up on here..no point both of us doing that I guess. He's just not a forum person in general. He'd rather read the Embassy website.

MelissaJulian - my Facebook account is just for me..I will not add him. He was offended at first but doesn't care now. There's nothing secret there but I just NEED to have something for myself.

Ricky, has no interest in Visa Journey (as I much as I talk about it i'm sure he feels like he visit all the time) so it's nice that you are both here...for the support of others a little ahead of you or at the same point as you. We might be strangers but we definitely have something in common.

United KingdomIs it too soon to start worrying?

Oh, thanks! Doesn't it make any difference that my fiance is from the UK and is a British citizen who was born there?

Hi Melissa, look at a few timelines to get an idea of the kind of wait you can expect to have. Pace yourself, this can be a long and frustrating process (especially if you hate waiting like me) and you've only just started.

Whether your fiance is a British citizen or not doesn't really make a difference at this stage to my knowledge.

mark111 Packet 3 and 4 are just letters (misleading right). Without looking at my letter I think if you look at the very bottom it has PKT3 on it somewhere.

No question is silly - if you don't get it you don't get. We've all asked our fair share. I hope the Wiki helped.

United Kingdomtime limit

hi there , is there a time limit from when you recieve the letter from London saying you have been approved and to gather information and arrange a medical ect to when you actually do it . and is there an idiots page tells you what to do to make this easier, what information to gather , what forms to gather , filll in , how to arrange the medical , visa interview , ect . thanks

There is the VJ Wiki - there's a thread about it here.

I received my packet 3 early October and sent it back in December. They had sent me a letter asking if I wished to continue with my application as they had not received my papers back. However, this letter overlapped with me sending my Packet 3 back.

In your packet 3 letter there will be a link to the embassy site telling regarding booking the medical. Once you have your case number (starting LND) you can book your medical. If no-one beats me to it I shall look for the links.

Once you send back your packet 3 they will send you your packet 4 (interview date). The only date you arrange yourself is the medical.

Yes, I too wouldn't mind people of color (I'm as open minded as the next guy) if there were simply less of them. Don't they understand it's their role to be the minority? They've got some nerve, that's for sure!

Funny, that I was going to quote that exact same part of text.

United KingdomA red letter

I have a couple of debts. Tried contacting them doing the "responsible" thing saying I had left the country and would pay as soon as I could. They didn't believe me and got nasty. So... I'm not planning on busting a gut to pay them back at all now. I very much doubt I'll ever live in Britain again.

Is this what I have to look forward to? I am about to try to resolve one but obviously as nickm said it may take some time what with having no job . Why would you both to call them if you had no intention to pay? Wouldn't you just skip out? I'll try anyway.......

United KingdomBetween NOA2 and Interview - 2010
I honestly don't recall signing my forms BUT they couldn't find any of my packet 3 docs at the embassy on the day of my interview (don't know what happened there). I gave them my own copies which had no signatures. They copied them and told me where to sign.

Re birth cert. I was born in Dulwich and I think I just put London. I can't even remember. Probably not an issue. Don't stress it. They'll tell you if it's a problem. :)

Landed through Chicago and got stuck there, but that's another story, now over in Or as planned.

Visa process took no longer than a normal visitor visa to process and was done at the desk as normal and not in another room.

Excellent! :)

Well... Had my interview today. It's in 'AP'... :(

They had lost 1 part of the DS230 form. Now I have another week to wait while they look at it again. And probably another week or two until I get my passport back. :(

Sounds very very similar to what happened to me.....

Approved!

We were in and out of the embassy within two hours, very quick indeed! We got called in order to the first window but we were called for our interview before the two I-numbers 'in front' of us. Not sure why this happened but our interview took about 5 minutes, most of which was the guy sorting out his sleeves on his new shirt! Fingers crossed for a quick delivery!

Congrats to the other June 17th graduates!

Well that was a long trip and a busy day...

Arrived at the embassy a tad after 8am for my 9am. I was surprised at the amount of people wanting to get in and at the armed cops around the place

Took ~30 mins to get through security and then after getting my number from the front desk, it was another 1hr15 before my number came up. 15 mins to check docs, be complained at for having postit notes on the paperwork and paying through the nose the $350 for the Visa :(

Ten mins after that i was called back up again, got 3 questions from a nice Carolina guy, where does she live, when did we get engaged and how long have we known each other. Then he explained he'd already read through my file and he was approving me!!! :)

It was all i could do to walk back into the main area towards the courier desk without a stupid grin on my face :)

All in all, by 10:30, i was out of the door wondering what to do until my train at 2:30. Good job it was a warm sunny day, Grosvenor Place (American Park) right outside the embassy which was beautiful to sit in and look around.

 well done, it wasn't so bad after all was it?! B-)

I got a call from the Embassy last night, trying to reschedule our interview from the 8th to the 9th or 10th. I asked what the cut-off date was for the fee increase (4th June) and then asked if they could interview us before the 4th, since it's 2 lots of fees for us (K1 and K2) hiking the cost from $262 to $700. So we're now interviewing on June 2nd.

Updated interview post to follow :)

Approved! Woo woo woo!

My appointment was at 8, was out by 9 o'clock. It actually took longer to sort the courier out than the actual interview. Also had a moment of absolute panic, the woman at the first window insisted she wouldn't need my fiance's dad's affidavit and didn't take it from me. Got to the interview window, asked me all the questions and then said "I've gone through all your documents, I'm going to issue the visa, but..." and then reached for a blue slip. Told me my fiance didn't earn enough for the poverty guidelines. I was like "NO NO NO! His dad is co-sponsoring! I have his papers here I HAVE IT I HAVE IT AAAAGH! The lady! She didn't take it! BUT I HAVE EEET!" The CO looked through it all and went "Oh that's good then, I'm approving it, I don't need any more documents".

Now just waiting for the courier to get on it and send my passport back. Eeeeeee!

  oh that made me laugh for real. Congrats!

I sent my papers back last week with a cover letter explaining that I will be out of country from June 9th to July first and therefor unavaliable for interview during this time. Phoned DOS yesterday and have been given an interview date for June 10th, just my luck so now need to go through all the pain of trying to get it changed. So I phoned london they said it will be ok, I just have to wait at least 2 weeks before phoning them back and changing it.

So it was exactly a week between them getting my papers and giving me an interview date just wish i could have made it but will be away :(. Will update you when I have been able to change it.

Shame about the date, HOWEVER, they worked fantasically fast on your case if they only had it a week before giving a date! Wonder why they ignored the letter..maybe just an oversight.

Congrats to all the "new" interview dates!

Now I have my visa I feel at a bit of loose end  Hopefully will book a flight soon...
