United KingdomLondon Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors
QUOTE (yorkshirerose22 @ Dec 21 2009, 02:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi

Iv to have 2 vaccinations ( MMR n HPV ), i decided to have the MMR done here in the uk by my doctor cause i can get it for free on the NHS, but he wont give me the HPV cause he said i wasnt in the age group (im 23). Me and my fiance decided for me to get HPV in the US but now im regretting it and thinking i should of just got the embasy to do it for £120.

If i get the vaccination here by my doctor or a clinic how do i prove iv had them done?? Like when i adjust my status iv to show proof iv had them done.

Hi Yorkshirerose,

Sorry, not an answer to your question really. my daughter is 13 and in the age range for the HPV (they have just started doing them at schools now for 12-13 year olds). She will get hers done by school before we go. However, the school nurse told me that HPV was given to them in three stages..I'm just wondering how comes Knightsbridge are only giving one shot (I'm assuming they'll only give you one.

We had our medical today - all went well. Just have to get my gp to send over confirmation that we are up to date with vaccines. I went to the gp on Friday and we got everything (my poor daughter had four shots and I had two) but they didn't charge us anything. We have to back - I need one more MMR and she needs one more Hep B... BUT the nurse would not print confirmation for us until we've had the second. The nurse at Knightsbridge was lovely about it and complete a letter that we give to our GP explaining exactly what we need and that we don't have to wait until we've had the second shots......

If you do them at your gp they can print it out for you what you have had. Mine done my daugther's (prior to getting our new injections) and took a matter of minutes. But Knightsbridge probably note it somewhere... I guess. I'm sure one of the more knowledgable on here can answer lol

United KingdomTotal cost of K1 Visa
QUOTE (Nich-Nick @ Dec 14 2009, 08:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
$2338 at todays exchange rates*. It was much higher when we did the visa. This includes application fees, courier of documents across the pond, passport style photos, medical exam, coach to London, hotel the night before the interview, certified copies of documents, marriage license, AOS fees, mailing fees.

Add on another $2000 for shipping and insuring 24 boxes of stuff.
Does not include cost of wedding, plane ticket, or paying to have a gazillion photocopies made.

*Expenses may vary.

blush.gif Yes, I kept a spreadsheet of costs.

You are very organised! I'm too scared to even know what we've spent over the almost seven years we've been together much less this visa process!

Also wanted to add that my daughter has poor eyesight and had trouble reading the letters WITH her glasses. The doctor made some disapproving noises and said nothing else. It wasn't a problem.

ETA: The doctor was initially a misery in the beginning then gradually got a little (LITTLE) nicer as we went on. Small talk is NOT her forte.........

United KingdomUK fiance's passport
Don't know about the first part but I believe (re: NOA2) you need to provide him with a notarized letter of intent stating that you still intend to marry him within six months of his arrival. That's how I interpreted the information on the checkilist.

Ours expires in Jan and I don't have my interview yet so Ricky (USC) is going to get that done for me.

I'm very sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong!

Okay, this is me smiling, not ranting.

I was thinking of how, wow it's already December! And then how I went over to England to see David for the first time as a girlfriend and remembering how we were nervous about each other and I hadn't kissed anyone in a long time and was nervous for that first kiss...but man was it wonderful! We got a lot of practice that week smile.gif

I'm seeing him next week. I love him!

/gushiness. Sorry! It just had to come out!

After reading all the rants that made me smile so much!

i'm hoping for a Feb interview as I want to move in/after June due to schooling for my daughter. Ricky will be here then for some moral support and to stop me going wacko.gif lol

Someone else asked a very similar question. Maybe the two posts could be merged?

I only send back packet 3 at the end of December but I sent a letter stating that I would like him (the USC) to be able to attend. Not quite sure if that'll do the trick so it would be good to hear from others.

Yuck.

The image is amazing but I hate snow and it's caused no end of problems. I live in London where it's not as bad as other parts of the country..I'd literally hibernate if i lived elsewhere lol

They said they were waiting for me to send back packet 3. But I have... they just haven't opened/logged it yet.

I'm getting antsy and I know they received mine on the 31st Dec but not logged it yet. If you haven't heard, I guess I better learn some patience lol

Oh most definitely!

I'm thinking we got the letter because our NOA2 is due to expire soon (or even maybe has - this said without digging out my copy)! And yes, I nearly died on the spot lol.

To be honest, I'd like a mid March interview... I'd like to leave here in July because of my daughter's schooling.

Well, let me tell ya. Mine was received on 31st December.

Today I received a letter dated 25/01 asking if we wish to continue with our application as they have not heard from us. I was about to have heart failure. Couldn't get through to DoS (due to Haiti the message says) so I had to suck it up and call the extortion line. Turns out it was logged yesterday. So approx four weeks it took for us.

Hope that helped a little.

United KingdomCouple more questions on packet 3
I'm not going to be much help because I can't remember off hand but I will say:

1) I basically answered "with work authorisation, employer uknown"

2) I had my medical already but can't remember what I put for the others - we don't have a fixed wedding date or poe date.

3) I only sent Part 1

I'm sure a more knowledgeable soul will respond.......

United KingdomK2 Hep B requirement
MMR for you..they may still give you the booster. I had had some seperate vaccinations as a child and I still had to have it but because you've actually had the illness already I'm not sure.

The nurse at my GP surgery was a god send. Because my daughter was premature her vaccinations were a nightmare as they were all over the place. But the nurse did all of hers and all of my for free  she even battled with the embassy vaccination list to figure out what we needed. The Hep B is given four weeks apart. I had my appointment with Knightsbridge in between the two. They said so long as I had the first one of everything it was fine but it should be completed before we go (I think it's better that way financially).

Oh and I told her we were immigrating and it was no issue.

The only shot I had to pay for was my daughters influenza as my GP surgery wasn't doing and nowhere else would do under 18's. By the time your have your medical your daughter probably won't have to have it. I think it was due to the time of year.
Ricky+VanessaFemaleUnited Kingdom2010-02-06 13:40:00
United KingdomParanoid...

How do you know when the embassy has received your packet 3? Do you get notified by post or just by a certain type of postage that tells you when they receive it?

If you send it Recorded Delivery you can track it (or if you wanna spend a fiver then Special Delivery). Then you can track it on the royal mail website so you will know they have received. To know if they have logged it you can call DOS (or get the USC to call them):

202-663-1225.
Then press 1 and then 0

But be warned some people have had issues with inaccurate info. Also have your Case Number to hand (the number that starts LND).

I can't remember about the DS forms sorry...
Ricky+VanessaFemaleUnited Kingdom2010-02-15 02:29:00
United KingdomSO frustrated..
Airsure is the worst Royal Mail service EVER! I wish you had posted when you were contemplating how to send it. Don't worry - it'll get there it'll just take a while.

For some reason when I sent something to Ricky using airsure it took a few weeks. If I send stuff normal delivery it's less than 5 working days.

Be patient :)

United KingdomWhat now?

My advice?

Don't tell anyone, then see if they can find you once you get here (it's a big place, after all). This especially applies to annoying relatives, those friends you thought you'd misplaced (on purpose) years ago and anyone representing Reader's Digest.

Sounds suspiciously like my plan

United KingdomChild document advice

Hi all,
Just wondering if someone can advise me on the best approach to take as all im hitting is dead ends.
Im just starting to gather documents needed for the visa people.

My son is 16 years old. Im a single parent and my ex has no access rights whatsoever (big court case he lost)
My queston is...will i need to provide something to prove this?
My problem is my solicitors destroy records after 8 years and yup you guessed it its over 8 years /sigh
What could i possibly take to prove i have sole custody for my son, thats assuming with him now being 16 years old i need anything. Thanks in advance

Also, the Court should still have a record and may (I'm guessing) be able to assit.

Try contacting them: http://www.hmcourts-...MCSCourtFinder/

United KingdomTravel to US between receivig PKT4 and interview date

Thanks for sharing! Just wondering, will I have to take a physical and theory test to get a US driving licence? I do have a UK licence and have drove rental cars in the US.
Also, how long does it take to get a marriage certificate?

I think it varies from state to state. The woman at the DMV told me that I had to, however, reading the book that I was given it sems to be conflicting...

Got the marriage licence in around 20 mins. Including waiting, doing the oath thing and getting the actual document.

It really doesn't have much to do with where you are in the immigration process (unless you do have your K1 visa in hand, then it's a one-way ticket), but rather if you can convince the border guard that you're not going to overstay and immigrate intentionally. So definitely your interview letter and whatever documentation you have to prove that you intend to come back...

Justine, this was my thinking behind the post. I was very nervous due to reading so many different reports. Since I did it and it went OK I thought I would let others know :)

meant to edit my post but i can't lol

FYI i also had two poe refusals in 2008, and those did not hinder my entrance whatsoever. they did ask about it but i told the truth that i was refused due to "insuffient ties".

That's a good thing! I just wish there had been a little more about the line of questioning to expect if you are considering and just for others to know it's possible. This time was really useful for me to be able to do some ground work.

United KingdomTravel to US between receivig PKT4 and interview date
I remember reading lots of questions about this and various answers so I thought I would add my two pence.

Got back from visiting Ricky in ATL yesterday. I didn't have ANY problems with immigration which was such a relief. I brought my interview letter just in case to proove that I intended to follow the proper route and that my daughter was also being filed for (he didn't come with me).

I was asked the purpose of my trip as usual and said I was visiting my fiance. He asked when we planned to get married and I said later this year. He asked about work (they always seem to ask me that - I must look unemployed (however, that looks)). Told him and he asked if I would be doing that in the States - said no as it's too dangerous. We had a laugh and a joke about Ricky working double hard so I can be a housewife (he said that not me but I wasn't complaining...Ricky, however, found this less funny after I relayed the story  ).

All in all I was no longer than anyone else there.

SO glad I went though..we got SO much done. We got the marriage certificate (yay) which is good for one year. Visited schools middle and high for where we live as my daugther is at that transition age and we were unsure (along with some issues I have concerning her schooling). The schools were both FABULOUS and very helpful. I now know exactly what to do when we get there. We also went to the DMV regarding a Georgia licence. So I am now very aware of the rules regarding my current licence and have the book to revise :)

Just thought I'd share....

United KingdomInterview

It seems most peoples interviews are at 9am, do they just tell everyone to arrive then? Mine is next week at 9am, I am staying overnight at Newbury park just outside london, they have free parking and it takes about 30 mins on the tube from there. I paid £70 inc, breakfast.

Hey, are you on the list in the 2010 interview thread? Get yaself added. It's nice to see the progress of others and also to get the support.

United KingdomTravelling after returning Packet 3...

Helloooo

I got my P3 today and am obviously dead keen to return it ASAP (hopefully). However, I'm going for one last pre-move trip to see the boy on April 21st.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences of travelling after they'd returned P3? I read on another thread a while back (which I tried and failed to find) that it is definitely possible but I'm wondering how much hassle I am likely to get if the IO can see that I have a pending visa application.

Planning to take a letter from my boss stating when I'm due back to work, my lease, return ticket and a credit card bill...any other suggestions?

I am desperate to get the P3 in and get an interview date confirmed ASAP but suffice to say I am pretty nervous about my trip next month!

Thanks :)

Hi,

I travelled AFTER receiving my PKT 4 and was fine. I had my interview appointment letter with me just in case (which also indicates my daughter is a K2 but she didn't travel with me) but didn't need.

United KingdomPsychiatric disorder in your medical history? Get a note before your medical appointment!
When they say "report" I would assume this means more than a simple letter or am I missing something?

I'm asking because the psychiatric reports I deal with and request in my line of work are quite in depth documents.

I don't know the difference but you need the I-134.

When is your interview?

United KingdomOfficial HPV Vaccine/New Police Certicate Thread

YAY! I am very scared of injections, I hate them!! I have just had my tetnus Jab yesterday and my arm is painfully sore, I cant lift my arm up more than 45 degree's because it is too painful

I had one of my vaccinations done yesterday with my Nurse (the tetnus jab) and I asked her about the HPV jab, and that i needed it for the K-1 Visa. She told me that the jab shouldnt be mandatory because HPV should be got young girls who are not sexually active etc and that most k-1 visa holders who are going to get married with their fiances probably don't fit into that category. So me and her had quite a long discussion about it!

Can anyone confirm that this is true?! I hate needles!! My mum lost my vaccination record for the MMR jab..... Which is a baby jab you should have gotten while you was very young..... and now I have to go get that done again aswel just so I have evidence of having it done! UGH!

My daughter is in the age bracket for the HPV. We had our medical on 21/12 and were told then that she doesn't need it due to the rule change mentioned. However, she now has to have the flu jab. My GP was no longer doing it and nowhere else would do under 18's so I ended up going back there and paying the 20 quid.

Just as well I did as it turns out they lost my blood  and they had to take more. Just as well I had they day off and turned up there. They were VERY apologetic as you imagine.........

United Kingdompackets?
Sending back the checklist and the required documents (you take your police certificate and birth certificate with you to the interview and probably some other stuff like the I-134 etc.) is enough to let them know that you are ready for interview.

Re: The medical - there should be a link on the embassy website to the required vaccinations. I printed that and took it to the nurse at my GP's surgery who figured out what we needed and done them for my daughter and I for free.

Also take a look at the sticky in the forum for medicals.

United Kingdompackets?
Hiya (again lol),

This is all you'll receive. I received mine in Octoer (whilst I was away) and didn't return it until end of December. I think the only think to be mindful of is the expiry date of the NOA2 but from what I've read you don't need to be overly concerned. I've got my other half to do another notarised letter of intent just in case (can you see the pattern with me?!).

In terms of expiry, I nearly forgot, I DID receive a letter asking if I still wished to continue with the application as they had not received my paperwork yet and saying I should have it back to them within four weeks or something. But this letter crossed paths with my returned documents.

United KingdomDS-230 Part II

A K1 doesn't do Part 2 of the DS-230. It's for a different visa. You only send in the first two pages (Part 1).

I think I was just trying to find something to give myself a heart attack about. My lever arch interview file has been sitting ready for at least month so I don't know what my problem is.

Thank you again - I'm going to go and enjoy the London sunshine now then :D

OK, my interview is tomorrow (K-1) and I think (hope) I'm having a brain freeze. The DS-230 Part II. Is that one of the documents we are required to sign on the day? Are we required to sign it at all?

...or crush me with the awful truth!

Hello chaps, my packet three containing:

ds-230 part 1
ds-156
ds-157
ds-156k
and the checklist

are heading off to the US embassy tomorrow first thing. My wedding is early September. Should we be worried? Three months from receipt to interview sounds just about okay. Sounds just about okay :-(

Sorry for this horribly self-indulgent post!

Hello gianfranco,

Just a quick one, can I send my IV-15K by special delivery?

It still makes no difference either way....the only thing I would caution, is if passport stamping occurs at either entry or exit to spain, please make sure that it is not done on the same page that the visa is found on.

Most definitely.

Thank you. I don't think they stamp it in Spain. When Ricky and I went to Madrid about two years ago they stamped his but not mine. I think that's because the UK is part of the European Union.

Passports are due back today with our Visa's in. My daughter is supposed to be going to Spain with my mum in May - we intend to go to the States first week in August. When i get to the embassy what do i have to pay for and how much is it? Is it just the courier service for my visa or is there more?

Thanks =)

ooooooo good luck!

It's $131 for the actual visa. If you pay in £'s you pay whatever it is according to the exchange rate on that date. Worked out to be £85 for me. And then you pay the courier fee which is £14.50..you can pay various amounts of top if you need it delivered before a specific time of day.

I just remembered that Knightsbridge also lost my blood after my medical. I only found out when I, by chance, had to go back to get my daughter's flu shot and they sheepishly asked to do it again. So don't worry..it appears to be the kind of luck I have! :)

I've read lots of reviews and this only appears to have happened to me to my knowledge  Having said that she did also say "we will have to go look for them"..she asked if I had copies (think she looked at my massive file) which I did and we got on with it.

Don't worry about it too much. I'm sure my papers are somewhere as I don't think I would have got an interview if someone hadn't at least looked at them.....
