Call your Senator's offices. They have on staff an immigration liason who is there to investigate immigration problems. They may be able to find out what the hold up is with your petition. We had to do that when they lost our petitions. Twice. And my medical file when I applied for AOS.

Absolutely. They have to get back to you within X amount of days too, so you should hear something from the Senator's office within a week or so once contacted. One way or another you'd have some kind of answer and, hopefully, something that could set your mind at rest.

Well, everybody it has all gone a bit pear shaped to be honest.

I got a letter from the consulate today saying that they needed further evidence from my son's father before they could issue the visa.

They need a letter with him stating he has no objection to my son immigrating to the USA to live permanantly. It also has to be notarised. Now getting something notarised in Britain means you have to see a special solicitor and pay a nice fee. Anybody have any experience with British notaries?

I know there will be no problems getting his Dad to sign this...just him finding the time to do it. He works very long hours and him being able to get to the notary in the first place is just going to be a pain. He'll probably moan at me a bit and make a fuss. All stress that I can REALLY do without. Plus it is just more of a delay. I am probably looking at another week to ten days at least before it is all sorted.

What gets me more is that I actually took a letter with me saying something similar...but it wasn't notarised. It said in packet four that if you are divorced and the child is subject to a custody agreement THEN you need a letter...but we were never married and there is no custody agreement. I'm all for parental rights but this seems a little OTT.

Damn...why does everything have to be so frickin' complicated? I have to admit, after the initial feelings of euphoria I'm now RIGHT back down in the dumps.

Ho bloody hum! :(

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVACCINATION REQUIREMENT
Hep-B is also age related. I am 33 and didn't need to have it done (I'm from the UK). My son, who is 12, DOES have to have it. He is due his 2nd one (of 3) on Monday actually (local GP is doing them for us).

We have both have chicken pox so we won't need the varicella when we get to the States either. The vaccination nurse made a note of it on our forms and told us this.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVACCINATION REQUIREMENT
When you get packet 3 through it will have information about your medical with it. In the booklet is a chart telling you what vaccinations you need as they can vary. For example, I didn't need Hep B.

I'd hold off until you get packet 3 through, then get them done once you know what you need for definate.

Nope, I didn't have to fill it in. I went through London last week and there was no mention of it for me or my son (who is 12).

Don't panic. They will simply just hold onto your passport pending the medical results once you're interview is approved. When they get the medical results through they will send out your visa. You won't have to go back.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview tomorrow!

I need my interview letter, I have that ready, would be very annoying to forget that. I have all our evidence of relationship (photos, phone bills from both of us, plane ticket stubs, engagement ring documents, actual engagement ring!). Got my passport, birth certificate, police certificate. Got my payment slip, got photos. Got I134 plus evidence. Think that's it. Oh and letters of intent, even though I'm not really sure we need that anyway...

If you only have one copy of your birth certificate take a photocopy. Also take a photocopy of your police cert too. They then give you back the originals. If you don't take copies they will keep the originals and you will have nothing for your records.

Oh and don't follow the map they gave you, it is #######. Print off a map from Multimap instead for that area.

Don't take any lipsalve or makeup with you. It'll get confiscated from you at the security checks. I took my lipsalve with me and had to collect it once I had finished.

If the bald security guard who waves you through does the "awww" thing to your passport picture give him a slap for me. He did it to EVERYBODY in my queue.... :D

And finally....good luck!

Nope, don't attach any photos. You take them, with nothing written on them at all, to the interview with you.

Send DS-230 back with the packet three stuff. Unsigned. It must be at the consulate FOR your interview. They check it is okay before your interview. Then, once there, you sign it in front of the consular officer.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow Long Does it Take?
Nope the expensive number was no help what so ever. Said that once your interview has taken place they can no longer help you. The only way that you can contact them is through email she said. Well, yes, WE can contact them...they just don't bloody reply.....rather one sided.

Phoning was worth a try I guess. *shrugs*

If they just replied to the emails though, that would help alot. If I KNEW what was going on it would make it easier to bear. It's the not knowing that I can't stand.

Anyhoo, I've moaned enough.

Well, still no visa. It has been over a week now since they got the letter. I can't explain how awful this is making me feel. I handed in my notice at work after the interview was approved and now have only two weeks left. Kind of worrying if this is going to drag on. No money and a child to support is NOT good and I'm not going to even start on the issues this could cause with my house sale.

I sent another email to the consulate despite them telling me in their verification email not to send follow on emails. Well, they haven't replied to my original in the time they stated they would, so I think I have every right to send another. How they view it will be totally different no doubt.

I did phrase it differently and hopefully this "may" prompt a reply. Who knows.

I shall phone the "very expensive and unhelpful" line tonight and see if I can get an answer from them.

Poor Larry, I think I'm driving him slightly insane....

My first one got lost in the post. It got to 45 days so I started to worry. On your receipt there is a telephone number to phone if you have heard nothing within the time limit. I think it is this one:

0207-230-3751

I dialed the one on my letter and the lady phoned me back after she had found out what was going on. They had mailed it out but it got lost, so she happily sent out a copy. It arrived with no problems.

I'd give them a ring. They don't bite! :)

Good lord! A girl could get dehydrated!

On a more serious note, I mentioned choccy digestives to my work compadres before leaving on my UK trip. They laughed and mocked me, saying that they couldn't understand why a biscuit could be called a "digestive" and taste nice.

I brought back a couple of packs and took them into work. Oh how I laughed when they devoured them like a bunch of hyenas chowing down on 5 newborn kittens.

I don't think we have any greetings cards around - we rarely exchange cards with people. We'll probably get an affidavit off of a couple of friends of ours instead.

We have joint insurance (car, house, medical), joint taxes, joint bank accounts, joint utility bills and my name is on the deeds to the house, car and truck.

Btw, I always thought that I'd have to pay a $545 filing fee for my son also, reading it back though it seems that as he is going on my form he only needs to pay $80...is this true? If so it'll save us a bundle of cash!

Anyone? Cause Mama would really love to buy a new pair of shoes! laughing.gif

Thank you! laughing.gif

It actually stems from a rather drunken night when I was texting a friend of mine. We'd just parted ways and I sent her a text saying "I have many cats, thanks for listening!". Additional ones said things like "there is a pea in my egg roll," "American profile magazine is very interesting," "I just sat on a cat, it wasn't pretty," "there is bathroom tissue on my stove," "I just peed myself. Curiously, there is no predictive texting for the word peed" and so on.

All real texts on my phone. I am happy to confirm that I hadn't actually peed myself. It was a joke. All the others were true though!
