US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon Interview

I came through London in October. You need to take the original copy of both the bc and the police report and then a photocopy of each. The consulate officer will then examine them, give you back the originals and retain the copies for their/your records.

If you don't take copies they will keep your originals....

Yeah, i shall photocopy my bc and pc, easy enough to do....I got my fiancee to send me a copy of her passport id page, not too sure if she can find a copy of her bc though, they dont actually need hers do they?

They only need yours, not the petitioner's.

I don't recommend this (as I have been told these are not accepted, by Snappy Snaps themselves-trying to make more money mebbe?), but my son had the £5 set of four done. The ones they do in the shop with the hand held camera, in front of the door.

The embassy had no problems with them.

That's a standard email receipt reply. I think it is designed to put off lawyers and the like sending unsolicited mail.

They will know you have a pending case and should reply pretty soon. Word of warning though, they took about 10 days to reply to an email of mine. So, don't panic if you don't hear anything right away.

Most people have managed to change their interviews, at London, via email. Send them an email, with your case number in the subject box. Explain about your holiday and also mention the lack of payment slip aswell.

You shouldn't have any problems. Good luck!

Some embassies let you in, others do not. Here in Accra they do not allow U.S. citizens to accompany fiances to the interview.

But in London, where the OP is going to, they do allow it.

Whoever this person may be, she is trying to reach out for help and is afraid to because of the reaction that comes behind HIV. Obviously, the way she is going about getting help is wrong but I want to chuck it up to everyone's overall reaction.

Listen, whoever you are, if you are going to come on vj to ask serious questions, then give us the whole sinario and dont use words like "just kidding" to end the attacks on you. You must be here for some advise and you have to expect some kind of attack but if you come forward with exactly what you want to know then I am sure that there are some vj members that will see past HIV word and would try to really lead you in the right direction.

My opinion on this is if it is true, your first step is to talk to your fiance, its a cruel thing to keep her from this fatel piece of information even if it means shes not infected. Just the mere fact that you think you are infected, she should know about it. Remember this, "The truth shall set you free" Also "Anything that is done in darkness, will surely surface to the light

One thing to make a note of: if you have the interview and medical on the same day, your visa will only be issued pending medical results. These take around four days to reach the embassy.

It normally takes up to a week to receive a visa after passing the interview. You'll need to add an extra week on if you have the interview and medical on the same day.

I wore jeans. I really don't think it matters what you wear. They can't turn you down for a visa just because you are not wearing a suit...

You have to re-do them. They need to be signed in front of a consulate official at the interview.

You CAN schedule it as a "before 8am" delivery only. This is an extra 20 quid or so. Other than that, you can't pick and choose a date for delivery.

If you are out when they try to call they will leave a slip with a number on it for you to phone and rearrange delivery. THEN you can chose a certain date for the second (and it is the last) attempt.

On average it takes up to 5 days, but other people (including me) have had to wait far longer.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion about X-Ray from medical exam
I packed mine in my checked luggage. The officers at POE are not medically qualified to understand the x-ray anyway. A full detailed report on your medical and x-ray are contained within your brown envelope. That's all they need.

There has been alot of talk about whether or not it is needed AND conflicting advice. Some people are told to pack it, others are not. I don't think anybody has actually been asked to produce it though.

It would have been a pain in the ####### to carry in in my hand baggage IMO.

I lived in the UK and have sole custody of my son. His father had no parental responsibilities over him, yet I still had to get a notarised letter from him saying he gave his permission for my son to leave the UK and live permanently in the USA.

But do you think its going to be harder for a father to take the kid, even with permision from the mother? Would a letter be enough, do they also want to see that he has custody of the kid?

You will need a custody agreement AND permission from the mother. If you have both of those, I wouldn't have thought there would be any further problems. That's my personal opinion mind you, it'd still be best to double check your embassy's requirements on this matter.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Questionnaire

I think many MANY of us have had times when we have gotten completely rat arsed drunk. I did many a time when I was young. I certainly didn't put that I am an abuser of alcohol on my medical questionnaire...

So for my hospitalisation for "misadventure" should i tell it how it was? a group of lads out and it was my turn for the "misadventure"?

I was in for about 6 hours while I slept it off, I was so drunk I dont remember what happened but by all accounts people thought it best to get me in hospital just to check

All I can say is, if you are unsure of what box to tick, ask at the doctors when you go for the medical. In all likelihood they are probably going to tell you to tick "no".

IMO I think it refers to long term alcohol abuse, not a few boozy nights out when young!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionOLD ARREST - PROBLEM?

I don't think falling drunk onto a window is a "crime of moral turpitude" or relating to a "controlled substance". Alcohol is not a controlled substance BTW.

As to whether you should answer "yes", well on one had you should not lie, on the other hand if there's no record of it happening, did it actually happen? ;)

No, but if you read the small print you can't enter the US on the VWP if you have been arrested, you should apply for a visa. So technically I have given them a reason to refuse the K1 visa on the basis that I have entered the US improperly......... but yeah, maybe the form could have been clearer on that point.

And yep........ I had been debating the YES/NO question........

Yes, you were arrested but you were only cautioned, not convicted. Nor was your crime one of moral turpitude or to do with drugs. People are arrested and then released all the time....

The embassy required some additional information from me after my interview; they had kept my visa and I'd paid the courier fee. It took them a month to get my visa to me so I wouldn't start panicking. They can be REALLY slow when dealing with this kind of thing.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBrown Envelope at POE

Well, actually they won't be able to give him a copy any longer. As I mentioned above, Knightsbridge Docs forward ALL paperwork to the embassy and retain nothing for themselves. All info goes into the brown/yellow envelope, including the DS-2053. If Rob is leaving the country next week then he has left it too late to get a copy. However, as long as he takes his vaccination history with him to the USA he can get a Civil Surgeon to transcribe it for him. Costs about $25.

It isn't a problem Rob, don't worry.

I'll try not to worry then!

I've kept my vaccination history, and I kept the form they filled in and faxed at my GP to confirm to Knightsbridge I had my tetanus done (I only found out I needed that after the exam), so that should be okay I guess.

I do remember reading here about a lot of people having trouble getting the forms transcribed for less than a small fortune, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Thanks for the info.

Yup, there have been some problems with Civil Surgeons "demanding" that you pay for another medical. All I can suggest is shop around. I was recommended mine by another Indiana VJer and it only cost me $25. See if there are any other members who are from your area/destination and see what they say. Most are pretty accomodating! :)

Yes thats for sure, i had my medical two weeks ago and they game me the vaccination worksheet also known as DS-2053 you wil need that for the AOS process, i know people who was never given it and they will give you a copy if you ask for one

The medical results will be in your brown/yellow envelope, everything in here is retained by USCIS, you don't get anything from it. The vaccination sheet you should have been given at the medical. I received one for myself but not for my son as he was still awaiting his first Hep B (at our own GPs). I telephoned the Knightsbridge Docs to ask for a copy and they informed me that all our medical records were sent to the embassy...so no chance of getting it, basically. Knightsbridge Docs do not keep anything on record.

This wasn't a problem for sending in my AOS stuff though. I just took all my son's proof of vaccinations to a civil surgeon and he transferred it all over for me.

I wouldn't worry too much. :)

I had two brown envelopes arrive, one being the xray photo which wasnt sealed and the other one which says do not open(sealed).

Ok, i feel beter now
I was handed the X-ray envelope at the interview, which was open.
But they send you another envelope that i get when they return my visa and passport, that i didnt know
Thanx for that
Spence

sorry I must have misunderstood, I did get an opened envelope containing my x-ray and you should carry this in your hand luggage to POE, in addition to the envelope you will receive when your passport is returned by the courier service from the US London embassy. This envelope is sealed and MUST NOT be opened. It can only be opened by an immigration officer at your POE.

I was told when I got my x-ray back that it's fine if it's packed along with my normal luggage, that it isn't needed at the POE. The envelope for it is massive too, I dunno how they'd expect it to be in hand luggage without bending it...

Nope it isn't needed at POE. There is a full medical report in your brown DO NOT OPEN envelope which has your X-Ray results in it aswell. There is no one at POE medically qualified to look at the x-ray anyway so there is no reason for them to open it. Pack it in your checked luggage and forget about it. Think of it as a souvenir of your visa process....

When you fill out the DS-156 you do it online and when it's complete it generates a PDF for you with a barcode and other info for the embassy.

Hmmmmmmn. What to do, what to do....

Ah okay, I didn't get the bar code thingy, must have changed since I went through London last year.

I think that you needed to have sent them two copies of that then. Once they receive only one I expect they will contact you asking for another copy of it to be sent to them before they can continue processing you. Only once they have all the correct forms will they be able to give you an interview date.

I think it is going to cause you a little delay, I'm afraid.
