US Embassy and Consulate Discussionwhy FBI check???

No, you can't assume anything AT ALL. Never assume you won't have any problems. I am mystified by people who book plane tickets for a few days after their interviews....but before they have actually had the interview itself.

*shakes head*

I mean, there is being confident and being overly confident. To me, it would be like tempting fate to do all of this.

Alot of people do all right and pass the interview...but there are a few who encounter problems and you can never guarantee it won't be you.

 So true! Look how long your visa took to arrive & ICE2005 is stuck in name checks now.

Yup! *agrees wholeheartedly*

I don't mean to frighten anyone or get them even more worried. Gawd knows it is stressful enough. BUT it is a good idea to go in with the idea that you could potentially get a delay or hold up of some description. There is no reason to think it will happen to you...but no reason to assume it won't either.

It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

I don't know about that. I thought it was if you have a similar sounding name to someone who has commited an offence so they run a more detailed check on you. I'm talking about K-1 interview stage btw.

I could be completely wrong though...

No problem. If you are going to the Basil Mansions doctors, pay a trip into the Harrod's Food Hall afterwards (literally 2 minutes away) and reward her with a Krispy Kreme donut! :)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical in London with children...any info?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone here has been through the medical in London with children?
Basically, I should be receiving packet 3 (hopefully) in the not too distant future and
Im looking for info on what the medical actually includes for children.
My daughter is 7 and obviously I want to be able to prepare her for what will
happen.
Im aware that there will be blood tests and Xrays etc, but are there any other physical exams for kids?
If anyone could help, Id be most grateful, just trying to be as prepared as possible...
and prepare her for the day..

Many Thanks

Chloe

Okay, my 12 year old son had a medical with me.

He didn't need to have an x-ray or blood tests. In fact, all he had was his height/weight taken, his eyes checked and a medical history taken down. Then the doc tapped his chest a few times and palpated his stomach...and that was it!

The vaccinations he needed were listed on the back of the packet 3 medical leaflet. My son's was up to date with everything, but he did need to have a series of 3 Hep B injections, which I got done at my local GP's for a fee of £30.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam?

He has suffered from depression, but without medication. He's gotten his life together quite well over the past two years. I realize that the medical examination and interviews are looking out for the greater good of our country, and he does SEEM like a potential risk, but he's truly not. He's not going to harm himself or anyone else. I hope he and I can get that message through to the proper authorities. I love this country more than I could ever love ANY man, so I would never bring anyone here that could potentially harm anyone. I guess I'm going to need a really good lawyer. :(

Could you possibly move to his country instead?

One caution: it is not a good idea to mention drug use at the interview. It is automatic exclusion.

Bad advice, very bad advice. What ever you do, don't lie to them or knowingly withhold information.

You also mentioned he has a history of self harm. Has he suffered from depression too? The medical will often also require information from the doctor regarding this. I.E. meds taken, how long the depressive episodes lasted etc etc

I think you really need a lawyer for this, it is a complicated issue and proper legal advice should be sought.

Good luck with it all. :)

You don't need to fill in the DS-157. That is for males between 16 and 45 only.

This statement in not true and not applicable across the board. The site provided and the exact statement concerning the DS-157 says the DS-157 is now required for all males between 16-45... the word "ONLY" is not in their at all and it is required for Manila. Ken

Last concern ...

I already mentioned it but....

on Affidavit of Support.. how is the co-sponser supposed to answer question 11?

Cuz she check the (Intend) box and wrote "Financial Assitance at $xxx per month for 2 years"

does she need to re do the I134 all over again???!?!?!!?!?!?

Yes, there can be no mistakes on the Affidavit of Support.

You're welcome.

Where are you getting this information from?

So why did they send me that form? they know i am female!... are you sure they are not going to ask it?

They send it to everyone. Yes I'm sure.

Incidentally, you send that form back with the DS-230 and packet 3 contents, if they needed it you would have gotten a letter. You don't take the DS-157 to the interview....

Nope. My fiance and I have not set a date. I passed my interview and they didn't even ask when did I plan to get married.

Engagement ring receipt. Engagement party pictures if you had one and so on...

You will also need to take plenty of evidence of relationship. Phone records, letters, emails, MSN convo's etc, airline ticket stubs if you have visited him...and so on.

As for travel arrangements, I wouldn't make any until after the interview. You never know what may or may not happen.

When they asked me when I planned to travel I just told them mid November. There was no problem.

no i just want to know what are the nice way to do so that the drug chemicals will be eliminated in the body or blood system.will doing exercise helps in cleaning the system>?

If it is in your system it is in your system. You can't speed up the process.

I don't take drugs myself so can't/won't help you any further.

I will ask you this. If he gets asked at the medical if he has taken any drugs, and he lies and says no, and he is found out, that is a pretty sure automatic exclusion.

Something to think about. Was it REALLY worth the risk?

Carry it with you in your hand luggage, then put it in your closet to gather dust when you arrive in the US.

The whole point of these last few posts was to prove that they don't ask for it a POE and it is far too bulky to put IN my hand luggage! :D

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionXray as hand luggage?

Technically, x rays can only be read by people who are experienced in reading them - ie. radiologists. A radiologist read your x-ray and wrote a report and that report is in the sealed brown envelope. There is no point in carrying the xray in hand luggage - pack it in your checked baggage. No one is going to request to see it - it's yours because you purchased it as part of your medical exam. As long as immigration has the report from the radiologist they will be happy. The x-ray is your souvenir:-).

Thanks!

Considering how I have never been told to bring my x-ray as hand luggage, nor has anyone who has ever posted been asked for it, AND considering how big and bulky the damn thing is, I reckon I'll pack it as checked baggage. I'm going to have enough hand luggage as it is.

On one of the bits of paper I got from the Embassy they said it could be put into the checked baggage, it just had to be available if requested at POE.

It's on the white form headed Important Information which came with your visa. :D

My white form had nothing on it about x-rays being available at POE. All it told me was that I had 6 months to enter the USA....

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 4

What's in Packet 4? Is this what people are using to refer to getting a piece of paper with an interview date on it from the Embassy. Is that what Packet 4 is?

I have Packet 3 at the moment and have completed Step 1 and I am working through the rest. It has occurred to me that I have not been asked to provide any supporting documents or information on my fiancee as of yet, however I have heard of people taking their fiancee's birth certificate, pictures, proof of relationship etc to the Embassy interview.

Perhaps Packet 4 asks for this kind of information and to bring it to the interview? Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this that they can pass on? My interview will be at the US Embassy in London.

Thanks

Packet 4 is your interview letter and appointment date, a (useless) map and a brief overview of what you need to take to the interview. Packet 3 has all the information you need. It was on the checklist you had to sign and return to the embassy.

So does Packet 4 tell me to take proof of relationship, copies of my NOA1 & NAO2, pictures and my fiancee's birth certificate to the interview, along with providing the (useless) map ?

Packet 3 does not tell me I need any of this information or documentation on the checklist or elsewhere in the literature.

Thanks.

Nope it doesn't. Just repeats the information in packet three.

I was only asked for these items at the interview. I was not asked for NOA1/2 or my fiance's BC. They DO ask for proof of relationship though, depending on how your interview goes, so take that anyway.

BTW packet 3 DOES say he will need his OWN BC and a copy.

Thanks Mags, that's the information I was after.

BTW, I am the "he" that you talk about - its my interview that I am going to and I know I need my birth certificate (being the beneficiary) but it doesn't say I need my American fiancees :hehe:

Okay YOU are the beneficiary...I did get a bit confused. :D At first I thought you meant the USC's BC...which you don't need of course.

That's why I added my edit...just in case! Btw, take a copy of your Police Cert too, they then give you back the original. They are happy with copies of the BC as long as you take the original with you aswell.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionThe medical...
The doctors take roughly 4 days to get the results to the embassy. So, if you have the medical and interview on the same day you could only be approved pending medical results.

Once they got the results they would THEN send out your visa. You could probably add at least a week to your wait for the visa should you choose to do this.

P.S. You never receive the visa the same day even if you have had a medical beforehand. It still takes up to five days usually. Add extra waiting time on top of that should you decide to do both med and interview on the same day.
