IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresthe embassy send me a letter for personal explaination of ineligibility of visa classification
my husband was on AP since sept. 2009. i just called the US embassy and said they sent us a letter last dec. 18, 2009. my husband went to the post office but no letter yet. im really worried about what the letter says. the embassy still has my husbands passport and there is still no decision for the visa: no denial or no issuance yet...im so so worried. the operator could not tell us what the letter was about!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresValid reason to extend validity of visa
My husband was on 4 months of AP. his visa was issued Jan 20 but it is only valid until march 10. our plans have changed and we were thinking of extending the validity of the his visa for one to two months but we arent sure if these are valid reasons. first off: we also petitioned for our son but his papers are still with the USCIS. the has been touched for over one month now. our son is 2 years old and it would be so much better for his husband to wait and go with my son to the interview and for them to fly together here. 2: my husband is a doctor and is really determined to take the medical board exams here in the united states. his application is still pending too to schedule his exam, we already paid for him to take it in the philippines and im sure it would just take about one to two months because of back and forth paperwork...will the embassy allow us to extend the visa?

i already told her what to do, she and i have the same situation. but for us i didnt bother applying for consular birth abroad and tried getting my sons US citizenship thru me...when i saw that i wa slacking in that requirement that pushbrk posted above i went to the US embassy in the philippines and talked to a consul, she said it would just be a waste of money applying as they would just deny it and give the papers back. she suggested that i petition my son...do the IR-2...someone from jordon had the same situation and he did the CR-2, IR-2...anyway when my son will arrive in the US and be in my custody (UC parent) i can apply for US citizenship... i already told her what to do, posting pictures would not help...

better to wait 6 weeks than 3 or 4 months. i don't know too...this word "review" is really stupid because they should have done all their reviewing while the case was still at NVC...

OK just called the 1-888-877-9888 and inquired about the AR the our Visa is in, I was told the all applicants recieve this white sheet and if no more documents are required then it will be checked "wait untill we contact you"and all applicants are under additional review.....I am not sure if this is the actual practice or this is just a general answer to my question??????? Reading other post on here it seems that this is not standard for additional review

i just called that number and paid the 18$, i spoke with cathy and she said that the max is 6 weeks...

WE ARE ON ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW. MY HUSBAND GOT THE WHITE SLIP. I AM SO SAD AND BEEN CRYING ALL NIGHT. TODAY WAS MY BIRTHDAY AND EVEN THE CONSUL KNEW IT. THEY DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT MY HUSBANDS DOCUMENTS, ALL THOSE THINGS I ASKED HIM TO BRING. THEY JUST WANTED TO SEE PHOTOS OF US. EVEN THE POLICE CLEARANCE THAT WE WERE REQUIRED TO BRING AGAIN TO THE INTERVIEW (THE PAKISTAN POLICE CLEARANCE). HE SAID OUR DOCUMENTS WERE FINE AND THEY WERE COMPLETE.
HE SAID THAT THEY HAVE TO CHECK FURTHER SOME THINGS WHEN HE ASKED MY HUSBAND HOW OFTEN HE GOES BACK HOME TO PAKISTAN ( MY HUSBAND SAID EVERY YEAR FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS DURING SUMMER VACATION WHEN I AM OFF SCHOOL TO VISIT MY PARENTS). I WISH I WAS THERE AT THE INTERVIEW. BECAUSE WHEN HE SAID ALL YOUR DOCUMENTS ARE FINE THEN I WOULD HAVE SAID THEN WHERE THE HELL IS OUR VISA?
THE ONLY THING THAT IS OPTIMISTIC IN OUR CASE IS THAT THEY KEPT MY HUSBANDS PASSPORT AND THAT THEY TOOK HIS NAME, ADDRESS, EMAIL AND PHONE NUMBER SO THAT THEY CAN CONTACT HIM WHEN THEY SEND THE VISA.
HOW LONG IS THIS AND WHAT SHALL I DO NOW?

(OUR STORY: MY HUSBAND IS FROM PAKISTAN AND BUT HE HAS BEEN LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES FOR 6 YEARS NOW. HE IS A MEDICAL DOCTOR STUDYING FOR HIS BOARDS TO PRACTICE HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. WE HAVE A SON AND WE BOTH MET IN THE PHILIPPINES. HIS INTERVIEW WAS ON SEPT. 25, IN MANILA EMBASSY PHILIPPINES)

My Fiance just finished her interview 9/25/09, and also the same thing occured AR, the white sheet with the only thing checked is wait till we contact you, AIR21 issued a tracking number, this is very confusing, but I am also optimistic since they kept her passport and she signed the 157K along with the CO....So I quess this now another waiting period again...If anyone has any suggestions please let me know?

Tracking number? Did she pay any delivery fees? and they didn't ask for more documents? did they give a number to call to follow up? havent spoken to my husband in detail about the paperwork done after the interview but the only thing i know is they kept his passport. maybe your fiance and my husband were there at the same time!...but he felt like he was the only one with the white slip!

PhilippinesTo flee poverty, Filipinas marry foreigners
my opinion: if i was not an american, hell yeah i would marry a foreigner! filipino men cheat, gamble and have vices...etc...plus i'd want my son to be "mestizo" hehehehe...i was raised in the philippines but thank GOD i did not marry a filipino...we would just be incompatible...
but i would definitely not marry a foreigner who is 10 YEARS OLDER THAN ME and i would still be in my 20s...then that would be obvious that a filipina is looking for the gold! hahahaha

hi...does anyone have a husband who is a doctor back home? my husband just graduated from medical school and right now while waiting for the petition he is doing his internship and masters while studying for the medical licensure exam for the united states. its a very long process to actually become a full pledge doctor here in the US, might take him years and years to even become a resident. but my husband says he can do it and will do just to become a doctor here and to make me stop working. i told him to go to nursing school in the philippines because it is much cheaper over there as i have graduated nursing school in the philippines and will take my nursing boards here soon, become an RN and have steady paychecks... but he is male and from pakistan and said he would rather work in a department store while waiting to get into a residency program than to become a nurse...very stubborn right? but i can not force him to do what he doesnt want to do. i am trying to save every penny i am earning right now until my family comes...so i work hard, study hard, pray and hope for the best...

Middle East and North Africawhat did you know about your SO's culture before marriage/arrival
my husband is muslim and i was raised roman catholic. very different but i have always loved him for who he is. we started out as boyfriend and girlfriend and it bothered him very much because in islam there is no such thing as boyfriend and girlfriend. but i explained to him if we really want to know each other we have to do this. we have been together for 5 years now and married for 2 years...all i can say is i love him and i am willing to do everything for him and my son to be with me here in america...
im just worried that in his interview it will come up that he is muslim and i am not...

hey you all! wow this is interesting...anyway thanks im learning...not about the non muslim marrying a muslim...but the AP and everything.

Middle East and North Africaproblems with muslim spouse?
right on miss morocco! my husband never told me it was against for him to marry a non muslim like me, that would make him a jerk if he ever said that. religion was never a problem...he never forced me to convert...sometimes even comes to church with me...greets me on christmas stuff like that and i celebrate his muslim holidays too.

i read somewhere that maybe during the interviews they ask how two people from two different religions work out a marriage and in their situation a jew and a muslim. they has a child and all they said was they were to do their best to bring up their child to become a good person not to harm anyone. i know now that the different religion issue also comes up in interviews. but couples who are 10 years apart in age and they spouse hardly can speak english also comes up during the interview process. i just have to hope and pray like every single person in here does to get thru this visa journey...

and yeah im pretty worried how people will react when he comes to join me here in america...like at work i mention my husband is from pakistan and they say...thats interesting and i totally know what they are thinking in the back of their heads. stereotypes! but i told my husband to prepare for that because u will meet uneducated people along the way who are just so ignorant. see, that's why we got along so well...when we were getting to know each other, he felt so comfortable with me because when he was in the philippines everyone kept making comments like oh he is from pakistan...he's a terrorist blah blah...except for me...anyway he will most probably be amongst professionals and educated people when he gets a job...

also...i dont think my son's visa will be delayed because his father is from pakistan...isn't it two forms of I 130 anyway? and an IR-2 for a child wouldnt even have to wait for a number...

im a newbie here so i dont really know how to put a timeline on my profile...someone tell me how to do that...but here it is anyway

oct. 18, 2007 married after 3 years of going steady...civil wedding philippines
oct. 27, 2007 my son was born
december 2008 went to manila embassy to inquire about getting a US passport for my son but consular said I did not meet the require for living in the US for 5 years, she advised to petition my son
july 2008 - present came to america alone...found job...working 5 months now...and ready to start filing for my family to come...but still getting acquinted with the process...

Middle East and North Africaproblems with muslim spouse?
yeah i guess i should expect for the AP (why do they do that for the pakistanis?)...that totally sucks though but i'm glad to know that a pakistani citizen can file in london too for a K1 visa...same as my hubby who will file in the philippines. i was also wondering, i wanted to post a new thread...which is faster? to do the I 130 at the DCF or thru USCIS. i know i'm already here in the u.s. but i will be going to the philippines to see my son and husband in march or april...should i just wait and file there or should i just go on and file in january at the USCIS chicago address? i saw that by DCF in the philippines...its pretty fast too....

and on yeah, not only do we have a son together who looks 50% me and 50% his father...so cute...our entire relationship went through the typical love @ first site thing...we dated for 3 years...now almost 2 years married so a total of almost 5 years being together...i knew he was the love of my life that day he came up to me and ask to borrow my notes! oh gush....im missing him so...

...ooopppss i mis spelled something...love @ first sight! not love @ first site! correction, we did not meet on the internet...silly me

Middle East and North Africaproblems with muslim spouse?
hi...thanks for replying...im not filing through the consulate in pakistan... you see my husband and I met in the philippines...i am a US citizen and I was studying in the philippines and he was a pakistani also studying in the philippines...we have a son together, he is about 14 months now.

I had to leave them behind and come to america alone. i wanted to petition them when I was still in the Philippines but I just graduated from nursing school and I didn't have a job...and no family member wanted to help us. Also our son could not automatically get his US citizenship through me because I lived my life mostly in the Philippines...I grew up there and went to school in the Philippines. The consular at the US embassy in the Philippines said I would have to petition my son since he could not acquire citizenship by birth to an american parent because I lacked that one requirement of not living in the US for at least 5 years...

So we decided after graduation I'll come to america alone...I had to do it all for my family...come to america alone and work for them...save up...you know the deal. so I have been living away from them for 6 months now. I have a job, a very stable job now and I waited after 5 months of working so that i can file for my husband and child.

I also emailed the different US embassies in pakistan to explain my situation...telling them my husband is still in the Philippines on a student visa...and I am planning on filing his immigrant visa soon...what should i do? they emailed back saying that all he needs from pakistan are his original birth certificates and police clearance so i am assuming I can file through the us embassy in the philippines. besides...my husband is legal in the philippines, he is still on his student visa which will expire in about year...has his alien registration certificate in the philippines...he is all good there. and also my son is in the philippines. my mom takes care of him and I am getting a filipino passport for my son so i can file his IR-2 too. we decided not to get the pakistani passport for him.

I emailed the US embassy in the philippines to double check but they havent emailed back...besides we were married in the philippines...but i will call the us embassy in the philippines...

im wondering if anyone knows if my husbands visa might be Expedited if i file them together with my son's? my son's will take faster im sure of that and i am worried my husband will get left behind...

also in the US embassy in the philippines, they allow foreigners to file tourist visas there even if they are not filipino...his pakistani friends did that....

and i have no problem showing proof of our on going marriage...we have a son together...which i think is the best proof of any 'REAL' marriage to anyone...

please comment.

hi all...i know this may sound stupid...but did anyone have problems if their spouse was muslim or pakistani or from a muslim country? im just really worried about it...i know its supppose to be land of the free and the sept. 11 thing has died down a bit but im just really worried...my husband is from pakistan and i love him very much. it was not a problem for me that we had different religions...in fact, its one of the things that drew me to him, when we first met, how muslim he was but he was still so normal and was such a nice guy...(when we met in 2004)...because of all those terrorist things people show in the media that sometimes stereotypes people! most aren't true! im just so worried...

Middle East and North AfricaMuslims
Salam everyone...wow so this is MENA huh? everyones all like MENA this and that in the IR1/cr1 forums and im like, what the heck is that? anyway i am married to a muslim man but i am not muslim..."yet". i love my husband very much and one of the things i love about him is how good of a person he is and he says because of islam. you see i was a very bad girl before i met him, had a very troublesome past...rebellious, flunking, partying, you name it. and when i met him i told myself it would almost be too good to be true to keep this man in my life because he so "pure" and i was "dirty". but he loved me, and i thank everyday for his love and patience. he does not force me to convert but it comes up alot. i plan to visit him in the next 2 -3 months and he said, it would be nice if i converted when i see him again. i dont eat pork anymore too...maybe because everytime i was with him for the 4 years we have been together i felt really disrespectful if i ordered anything that had pork in it that when i was not eating with him, i still felt disrespect when i eat pork.

i want to convert...for a long time i have wanted to. i am just finding it in my heart for the right time. i mean i have grown up catholic for 25 years and its not so eays forgetting jesus, am i right? i say to my husband everyday, "i just have to feel that thunder strike my heart then i will convert...GOD has to make me totally feel it so i know this is really for me too..."
and when i do become muslim i want to become a good muslim, do my prayers, give to charity and most of all be respectful and contnue to live a dignified life...

There are (at least) two ways of doing things - the 'required' way and the 'best-practices' way.

On VJ you'll get both; what's required and what has proved to be successful for most VJers, most of the time.

You are of course free to choose your own path. good.gif

And then there are the actual instructions which clearly say "all pages" of the passport if being used as proof of US Citizenship. For all passport related purposes, I suggest photocopying all pages. One of the reasons is to clarify any question that could come up about any international travel. I suggest people not get bogged down by asking why to every part of the process they don't understand. It's complicated enough just to understand the "what to do" without all the "why", though often a little thought will answer the why questions for us.

In your case, they may actually want to know how many times YOU have been in and out of Pakistan. Every page of your passport will answer that.

PAKISTAN? ive never been to pakistan...my husband and i met in the philippines, he is from pakistan but he lives in the philippines...been living there for 5 years now

And, a copy of every page of your passport will make it clear you haven't been Bin Laden's courier between him and his sister organization in the PI. Light coming on yet? good.gif Zero is a number.

not only are people thinking every pakistani is a terrorist but now even the philippines is involved...is the philippines the new terrorist origin this time around?
