K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures	K1 & K2 Questions	Your concern is quite understandable. There is a dearth of information about the K-1 derivative visa process. The Department of State (DOS) FAQs give a good overview of what you have to do to get the K-2 ball rolling. The forms, fees, medical, interview, etc. at the consulate/embassy phase is the time when there is some action necessary for the K-2, and is described adequately in the DOS FAQs. That is not surprising since that portion of the K-1/-2 visa process is handled by the DOS. When you get to the consulate/embassy interview, be sure to check for specific K-2 requirements that are unique to that consulate/embassy, they can have subtle differences.    Additionally, there is some very good K-2 information available on this site. If naturalized, copy of Certificate of Naturalization and entire pages of your valid passport.    Affidavit of Support is only needed with DS forms with approved I-129F during the interview   Good luck on your journey!    FC-029 is an old vestige form from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) days. Similar verbiage of the old form is expressed in the VJ Forum's Cover Letter for I-129F example. It is the statement at the bottom of the cover letter speaking about the use and intent of photocopies. They are from the IRS (government), free, less paper, and easy to obtain. The National Visa Center (NVC) may instruct some applicants who previously submitted Form DS-230 to submit Form DS-260.   It seems DOS is rolling this out to all foreign service outposts as we speak. You actually asked more than one question.   It is really important for me for my fiance to meet my family before we get married. We would like to get married here and then live in Rio. Does us getting married here tie him down to this country? Yes, he will have to live here for some time, read more for details.  Do we HAVE TO fill out the paper work for the green card soon after or can we worry about that when we decide to come back and live here? With the K-1 you have to marry in the US within 90 days of arrival, apply for AOS,  and then cannot leave until either the Advanced Parole (AP) card or Green Card (AP) is approved. Again, read more for details.  Can I process that paper work from abroad? There are appointments to be kept for AOS processing. Due to other personal reasons my fiance can not leave Rio for too long and I really want to go back and live out there as well.   Thanks in advance!   The majority of folks who apply for GC through the K-1 process have the intention of living in the US. From your situation, as you describe, why not just get married in Brazil and apply for spousal visa?
