We didn't have a lot either. We neither rent nor own, so we live with his Mother, so no lease or deed. No bills either. We sent the tax transcripts, copies of our drivers licenses that show this address, car insurance paperwork with both names on it. I had mail come from the Canadian Embassy that showed this address, so I sent that sort of thing. Bank statements covering the last 3 years, and I had the MIL sign a letter that stated we live here, and she obviously knows we are married. I sent about 5 pics in as well.

This was a good post I thought, Brother Hesekiel put it down well and I tried to follow that as much as I could.

http://www.visajourn...fe/page__st__15

I'd send them anything new you can think of. I did read where a couple sent the same things, but highlighted some..such as she wasn't on the lease, but the joint bank account showed the rent payments coming out of the account balance they shared.

I've seen this happen in a couple of the threads, for ROC. I would have thought that having the biometrics letter sent, and completing them, meant that you were ok as far as info. Seems that you can still get an RFE :( It looks like they don't really check through petitions for completeness, the machinery just cranks out the letter a few days after they get your bits and pieces.

What did they ask you for? The wording can sometimes be a bit vague.

They are terribly slow at VSC. I think they are well outside the normal processing times with that. I am not even thinking I will hear anything more until next summer. There are quite a few who are thinking they may need an extension on their extension.

We are off in December to TN to get the biometrics done. I hope the weather cooperates!

Especially frustrating as I had to do this all a year ago when I got my 10 year green card. Oh well. I can only do so much I guess, the rest is just waiting and hoping.

Well, if nothing else, we are all getting used to the wait and hope thing. I hope it all goes well, and that you just can send off whatever else they think they need :)

I actually have to leave the state for biometrics, if you can imagine anything so silly. Kim (Kim&Chris) has had hers done and had to make the trek.

Like they've changed...lol...I'm losing track of how many times somebody has taken my fingerprints the last few years.

I'll be filing shortly. I'm in the window now, so I need to stop procrastinating and get on with it.

Meh.

I had the note come to tell me to get busy thinking about ROC. It was sent to my old address. Sent back to Homeland Security. Then sent here to the right address...by..you guessed it..Homeland Security! So, although I did send them the address change last year in May...they are asking me to send one again, this time to Kentucky?!?

I swear these people are in business to keep me in a state of confusion!

Well done on the job!!!! You mentioned it when I saw you but I wasn't sure if it was all go and whether you'd started it or not. Lemme know which EMS you're working for in case hubby has a turn in the middle of the night...lol.

And yaaay on the license :star:  ....LOL...........did you sit it at the Carmichael Centre? That's where I went. Sat the written, (ie poke...sorry touch screen), and when I went up to get the paperwork from the State Trooper, he said, well done, you passed them all. I said I was pretty nervous as I hadn't had to sit a license test since 1982. He laughed and said I didn't have to do the drive, (something about I'd been driving long enough), and to go to the DMV and get the paperwork sorted. He didn't have to tell me twice.....I high tailed it outta there....lol.

White County 911...and yes..that IS your area lol...start 2nd August :)

I went to the Carmichael Center as well, and I also got them all right he said...and I've been driving since 1968 lol..maybe that's not long enough?

To get that I needed a drivers license. I went and did the written last week, not expecting to have to do the road test. Wrong.
He sent me to the DMV to get a 30 day waiver, and I did the road test this afternoon. Not even around the block..up a side street, around a traffic circle and right back. Meh.

And no one asked me for my NZ license, so ..don't ask don't tell :P

Would love to chat with any of you about the process down in Auckland (any advice etc). Seems to be a pretty good place to interview from what Ive heard so far, so Im hopeful everything will go well. Anyway glad to see some NZers on here!

Hi Jamie,

Haven't got that far myself but I have only heard good things about interviewing for K1 in Auckland. Seems to be a pretty simple process and if you follow the K1 Guide your Kiwi Jamie will be more than prepared for their requirements. Best of luck to you both. (F)

I've had mail. Not an RFE, but I have to go all the way back to TN for more fingerprints. They say the ones they took last week cannot be processed. :/

I am so sorry about that!!That truly truly SUCKS!! You think they would have made sure they were successful when you were there.. Better to spend an extra 30 minutes or so there and get it all done right the first time.. And its not like it is just around the corner either.. Six hours is just such a LONG time to travel!! Will they reimburse you for all the petrol you have to use and inconvenience? (of course not)... When you go again, you will have to keep telling the person that you want to KNOW that the fingerprints are successful this time....

I'm pretty frustrated with the US Postal Service right now. We sent away our RoC via Priority Mail. Paid extra for Delivery Confirmation. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, and the Tracking still says it "on route to destination." Which means either some loser didnt do his job and scan the package when it arrived for the delivery confirmation, OR it actually hasnt arrived yet despite the fact I sent it Priority. Its fairly nerve-wracking.

I'm sorry you are going through this nerve wracking time of not knowing what has happened to your package. When you paid for delivery confirmation did you have to fill out a green card and put your name and address etc on it? If you did, then they will mail the card back to you when the package is delivered and signed for.. so you may not get the card back until maybe three days after the package was signed for... How many days ago did you send the package? It says on their website that it can take up to three days for the package to arrive via priority mail.

I hope you get an update on your package soon.

Hey all,

Long time no chat! :)

I got my 10 year green card last year, it was all pretty simple, I sent in tax returns, copies of car insurance that we have in both our names, medical insurance and itineraries from a couple of trips we'd taken. No interview, just a biometrics appointment then approval.

My son's IR2 is in process and he has an appt at Auckland consulate in June, I'm a little worried as I can't be there with him, he's 17 so he should be fine, but here's hoping they don't ask him anything tricky! Next month I'm also going to be sending in my citizenship application so by the end of this year I should be all done with this process, forever! Yippee :)

Hope everyone is doing well.

Congrats Kelzm on getting your 10 year green card !!! Hope all goes well with your sons interview in June!! It's time for removal of conditions for me.. Can't believe the two years have gone by already!
Will be glad when it is all over. Hopefully, i will be able to send in the ROC forms and evidence the first week in June.

Congrats Emma!

I'm also in California, hope you find some kiwis close by. I was at work last month when I heard a familiar accent and I had to get up and go and ask the startled lady where she was from. Turns out she was from Auckland :) (I work in a public library).

Zeddess it took me a year to find a job, and even then I only have a 20 hour a week job, and I pick up extra hours as I can. Admittedly for a large part of that my search was narrow, I was only applying for librarian jobs as that is what I do, but there wasn't much out there. I started applying for a variety of clerical, receptionist etc and didn't have much luck there, a couple of interviews, but no job. For the first year I relied on temp jobs. I was very lucky that my neighbour was the HR person for the local county and got me on the temp list so I got to work as a receptionist, a tax collector and a PA to the city attorney at various times.

It's tough, but don't lose hope, I started to feel that it must be just me but finding a job is tough for everyone. The best thing I can recommend is trying to get some job experience, no matter what. Failing that try volunteering. I volunteered at the local library, and then they gave me some temp work. I think if I hadn't got that US experience under my belt I wouldn't have got the job I have now.

Zeddess: Like kelzm, it took me a year to find a job too...It's a permanent position but is only part time hours (does that make sense? :)) Before i found a job, i volunteered at a gift shop at a library just to keep my sanity as i wasn't used to being out of work for so long.. And still do volunteer as well as having a job.

I think finding a job is just hard at the moment and not having any USA work history can be a bit of a disadvantage. But try not to get too disheartened.

I had to go for an interview for AOS and i showed them marriage certificate, joint bank accounts, joint car insurance, wedding photos and some other photos. I really didn't have much to show them as we had only been married about 5 months. I really don't know how they decide who has to go for an interview and who doesn't...

In other news, got the email today to say that my removing conditions has gone through and my new greencard is in production.

Was all very simple, I was waiting for an RFE as I didn't think I'd sent in enough evidence but didnt' get that or even a request for an interview.

I sent in copies of the first pages of our tax returns, copies of travel itineraries for trips we'd taken since I moved here, copies of mail sent to me at our home address, envelopes sent to both of us (cards etc), and that's it. We don't have joint bank accounts, I'm not on any of the bills or mortgage. All in all I'm pretty pleased it went so well.

Congratulations!!!

So I recently emailed the NZ passport office (thanks for the link Kiwiana!) to ask about my expiring passport. The answer was that as far as they are concerned it's valid up to the date of expiry but that the airline who check me in and the border agents can reject at their discretion. So now my dilemma is... 4 months to go, do I try and do it via post, or take the risk that it'll all go smoothly.

Wow! This is definitely a tough one! I mean it all depends how picky the person at check in or the border agents are, on the day!! I personally, would probably be so worried about getting rejected at check in that i would probably apply beforehand for a new passport.. Though, i don't think you can send it in at the NZ embassy here in the US for renewal?? I think you would have to mail it to NZ to get a new one?

If you do decide to renew the passport, let us know how you get on. And what documents you have to mail in etc? :)

Amaciar - Congrats on the pregnancy! Hope it's a smooth one.

So far I've had my NOA back from USCIS but am now just waiting for a biometrics appt letter. It seems from other posts that they're on a go slow with these. I've also just filled out the I-130 for my son, he's got one year of high school left and I'm hoping I can get him approved for residency then go for my citizenship before he's 18. Hoping to transfer citizenship to him that way. It may not go through in time, and there may be some issues with him being out of the county for school, but I figure I may as well try.

In other news - I'm hoping to go back to NZ for Christmas this year and realised that my passport expires in April 2011. To get a new one now it seems I have to mail a bunch of things to Wellington. I'm considering just trying to fly back with only the 3-4 months left on the passport and then renew while there. Anyone know if there'll be any issues flying out with a nearly expired passport?

That is a good question about the passport expiry issue. I always thought you had to have at least 6 months left on your passport to be able to travel. Maybe you could email The New Zealand Department Of Internal Affairs and ask them.

So my visa expired today and I still haven't sent in the AOS package, because for some reason the civil surgeon won't certify my I-693 form without a full immigration medical, which I do not NEED. Is it supposed to be this hard to get something signed? Anyway, my social security is still in my maiden name because it took 10 weeks to get so I haven't been back there yet, but I've used my married name on all the forms. Are they going to chuck a wobbly if I don't send in the medical form or am I worrying for nothing?

I got the vaccination form signed off by a medical doctor here. I ended up going to an interview for AOS and the woman looked at the form the medical doctor had filled in and she said that he didn't sign off on one part of it.. I was NOT happy about this. She suggested that i would have to go back and get it re-signed. I was very upset about it! She went away and talked to her supervisor and came back and said that it was ok.

Kim&Chris and Cdneh didn't get the vaccination form signed off and didn't have to go for an interview.. It is all in the lap of the gods!! As Kim said, It's probably more important to get it sent in, even if you get an RFE for it.. At least it will be in the 'works' so to speak.. Let us know how you get on.

Well, you can apply early, like I did, but you'll be put under more scrutiny. If you're thinking about applying after 3 years make sure that you have things like joint utility bills or name on the renal/mortgage. Also make sure that you can show a bill for each year you are here. My name isn't on any of the bills and simply getting my name put on one wouldn't be enough, I had to show the three years worth.
