Hi Starlight95,
Thanks!

Asia: SouthTax question related to IRS and interest earned from a Bank in India
Generally, if you earn interest in a savings bank in India (e.g an NRO account), we have to include that interest as income in our US tax return - that is a given.
However, if you have already paid tax on that interest in Inida (i.e. deducted at source by the Indian Bank), do we have to still include that as icome in our IRS return? My guess is yes, but I just want to make sure.

Any suggestions, pointers.
Thanks!

Helllo
I was with my fiance for his interview and the CO asked me all the questions (im the petitioner) and approved our visa.
we also went to Delhi to turn in our packet 3 and my fiance was not allowed into the embassy i again carried his passport in with me.
but the interview was no problem at all! except that my fiance was all prepared and i wasn't..i was not expecting any questions to be asked towards me but all were...ready more in my profile!

Hi Ak+Tk,
Thanks!
Can you send me the questions that you were asked at the embassy or point me to the link for where you have it. I couln't find it.

Asia: SouthNeed Urgent feedback please - Should I be present for the interview with the beneficiary?
My fiancee has received her interview date end of this month at New Delhi. Ours is a second-time (refiled) K-1 petition. The first K-1 was refused last year (after being in AP for several months) as the CO was not convinced about our relationship. Since then I had visited India and spent several weeks with my fiancee and her family. We have addressed and made up for any deficiencies that may have been there in our first petition -- our refiled I-129F petition was over 3.5 pounds with tons of photos and documents, bills, affidavits etc. etc.

My question is:
Since New Delhi is a high risk (high fraud) consulate, I had emailed the embassy about my willingness to travel to Delhi and be present for the interview along with the beneficiary. Their reply says that due to a large volume of visa applications they receive, they will not be able to meet with any one else other than the beneficiary.
What should I do?
Many have suggested the importance of being there for the interview with your beneficiary especially at New Delhi consulate, but how does it help if they do not let me in or don't talk to me.
Any suggestions please?

Asia: SouthHow to go about getting the Police Certificate (Hyderabad)
Hi All,
I have recently gone ahead and mailed the I-134 Affidavit of Support with all the required documents to my fiancee yesterday. Also I did receive a mail on March 17 that the NVC will be sending the I-129F petition in a weeks time to the Chennai consulate where her interview will be taking place. My question is relating to getting the Police Certificate, what forms are required?

As part of the package that I sent over to my fiancee, I did include two print outs of form DS-156 and a print out of form DS-156K. Copies of all the documents including the letter that states that the 1-129F petition will be forwarded to the Chennai consulate in a weeks time. As well as copies of NOA1, and NOA2. What documents can she take, to get the police certificate.

Any suggestions will be very helpful.

Thank You,

Asia: SouthI have some questions regarding getting married
Initially, my Pakistani fiance and I were going to have him apply for a tourist visa to visit me here in the US. Then I learned here how difficult getting one would be.

So then we thought...okay I guess we could try for the K1 visa. Then we decided that we really want to plan a meeting (in a third country) to visit with each other again as it's already been 6 months. I think it would really be good for us and can help sustain the hope and faith that we'll get through this and be together in 'the end'. We'd like to meet at the beginning of march. Then, I began wondering if getting married during this meeting is possible. We are thinking about meeting in Casablanca, Morocco. I looked up info regarding getting married there, and it seems there could be delays in getting paperwork 'done' so it seems like a difficult task. And, my fiance seems to think we wouldn't be able to get married there anyway because neither of us is a Moroccan (sp) citizen. My fiance seems to think that me going to visit him in Pakistan is the best place to get married. We still want to meet in March, regardless if we get married then or not.

I'd like to know how/where everyone else got married. And, if anyone has any advice and information for us? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Hi,

A couple of queries and I hope somebody who got the PCC from Mumbai can help.

I'm from Blr and I studied in Mumbai for a couple of years so I need a PCC from there too. I got mine in Bangalore by going to the Commissioners office and then to the local police station when they called me and later went back to collect it. There was no Passport office involved nor did I submit my passport anywhere. A friend tried enquiring in the Commissioners office in Mumbai but he was told that I need to go the passport office! Can somebody explain the procedure to me and tell me how I can get it done in one trip to Mumbai please?

Also do I need to wait until the letter from the embassy before I proceed on this?

Thanks a lot,
This is really giving me sleepless nights.

For K3 about a week to two weeks after embassy receives the papers from NVC they will send out a combined packet that has all the forms including the interview date. We just had to fill those and go directly to the embassy on our interview date. We did ours about a month back. Hope this helps. Also Chennai consulate has very friendly staff and if you call them they will help clear any questions. We had called them on phone a few times and they were very helpful on the phone.

You got plenty of time to gather documents and gets things done 10 days before your interview. Don't worry you will be all fine. Did the petitioner already finished gathering all the necessary documents? Good luck for you interview.
Our papers are on the way to embassy, so we are hoping to get a date in early May.

Congrats! The catch is that it is 10 working days and not 10 days. My passport is still in the passport office. I'm supposed to receive it in a week, but you can never be too sure. I'm hoping things go smoothly.
From a very small data sample ( being my own case) Chennai is probably giving out interview dates one month from the P4 dispatch date. So you should receive soon.
Good luck and keep us posted.

If your docs are not ready to submit it to VFS then you dont have to stress over it. We did not submit anything to the VFS except paying the money for courier charges. We paid the courier charges two days before the interview and got our medical done 3 days before the interview. We submitted everything in person at the Chennai consulate and they did not say anything. In my opinion you should try to submit if you can but if there is something that prevents you from not submitting at VFS dont stress too much about that.

Thank you very much. That does take a lot of stress off me. I'm going to get it done as soon as possible.

I seriously apologize for replying late.

We submitted following documents to VFS.

Passport photocopy
2 Photograph
Biographic Data Forms: DS230 I and DS230 II
Birth Certificate: Original and photocopy (I also submitted originals with NVC)
Marriage Certificate: Original and photocopy (I also submitted originals with NVC)
Police Report - Passport PCC original and Local PCC copy
Medical Report

Interview questions were very typical. Nothing that I have not heard off on this forum.

How long your husband has been gone? Which Visa?
When did you meet first?
When did he come last? Why?
How did you get to know each other?
How did your parents knew each other? If they did.
How long your husband has been working? What does he do?
Name of her parents before marriage. It was funny because, my last name, her last name, her mothers last name before marriage is same, so he was kind of curious about the everybody's last name.
Who sponsored your husband's GC?
Asked for pictures. (Showed family album)

I think we have covered almost everything we can think of.
Good luck to everybody.

Have a Great day.

Jenn, I can't say that I have seen all of your posts but I have read a few. Getting a visa to Pakistan from US is very easy. Getting married in Pakistan would also be easy if that is what you choose to do. And since you have already met in person with your fiance' you could also start your paperwork for a K1 now if you are not going to choose to marry now. I have been engaged to my Pakistani finace' since July of 2008, and our K1 visa petition was approved in August of 2008, been in AP since Dec 2008. Each case is different, I know, but the likelihood that a Pakistani male will be in Administrative processing for a year or more is great. Don't waste time.. if you two are committed get your process started ASAP. K1 or K3, if he is a straight up guy there is nothing to fear... he will get here eventually.

Asia: Southquestions for Islamabad Pakistan K-1 interview
Hi guys,

I really would like to ask this of someone that has done K-1 visa in pakistan because this is one question that gets multiple different answers
based on the country. I got my NOA2 a few days ago so i believe my papers should be heading to pakistan in 2 weeks or so after NVC is done with it.

I wanted to send my I-134 over to my fiancee so wanted to ask this in regards to question 10 and 11
question 10:
I have submitted a visa petition to USCIS on behalf of the following persons:

I think I list my fiancee here... correct?

quesion 11 (and the one that gets mutliple answers depending who u ask here on VJ):
for K-1 pakistan specific answer please
Did you checkmark I Inted and then explained how (if yes please tell me what u wrote here so i can get a better idea)
or
Did you leave I intend unmarked and wrote N/A in the following lines

please answer for 11 specially as 10 i think i know but 11 some say they checked marked I Intend and then some say no leave it blank and say N/A cuz it does not apply to K-1 visas

also does it matter if these papers and pay stubs and all are signed and sent now? is it too early? meaning does the embassy prefer these signed within 30 days or less of the interview or does it not matter?
please answer if you have sent or in the process of sending this to a fiance in Islamabad Pakistan only.

Asia: SouthI have some questions regarding getting married
hi,
i am from india so my case was kinda similar to yours.my husband and i met in Bahrain and we were not sure if we should get married in Greece(which is valid and allowed) or should we apply for a K1 or should we go to india and get married.Firstly getting married in Greece sounded good but the paperwork takes too long, then we thought of getting married in India and the same story with paperwork.Tourist visa from india was out of question because its very difficult to get one and i didnt want any unnecessary trouble. So the best thing we did was we went to India and got engaged in the traditional way(u know engagement with family and relatives) and then filed for our K1 paperwork.he went back to the states and i stayed back in india.within six months our K1 paperwork was approved and i was in the U.S.and we got married in court here.
As for the K1 evidence u can always show ur phone records, emails and pictures of u guys getting engaged in pakistan with his family and friends.

if u plan to get married in pakistan or morocco the paper work is very lengthy for k3 and u dont want to stay away from ur hubby right after u get married,u know what i am saying.hope this helps...

Asia: SouthI have some questions regarding getting married
Hello :)

We are new on here so not sure if our opinion is right, but here are my (Jen's) thoughts...

- Yes, it is much too difficult for him to get a tourist visa. BUT... you CAN get a visa to visit him. I just visited my fiancee in Pakistan and had no problem getting approved for my visa twice. The first time I had to take another trip for work that interfered with my date of travel so I had the first visa (October '09) cancelled and received another one (December '10) with no problem at all. I spent 1 month (Dec. 14, 2009 - Jan. 12, 2010) with Atique in Pakistan.
- In my experience with the 1st visa received, they only allowed me 2 weeks stay in Pakistan. So when I had requested my 2nd visa, I asked for a full 30 days and they gave it to me.

- If you plan on living in the US after you get married, I would recommend holding out till your K1 visa is processed and then when he is able to come to the us once the K1 is approved, get married here. We decided this for us because we feel it will be much easier to prove the validity of the marriage and get it verified if it is done here in the US. Also, because it would not be fun to get married and then after getting married, having to part ways and stay in separate countries while waiting out the process.

- We plan to do a quick civil ceremony here in the US with a small party afterwards for friends and family here. Then shortly afterwards going to Pakistan to do a more official/traditional wedding with friends and family there.

- I would not focus so much on when to get married. That does not seem to be the priority in this process. The priority seems to be focusing on gathering all your documents and getting your paperwork started so you can file ASAP. The wedding will happen in time, but if you really want to be together, you should consider getting started on the mountains of paperwork you will need to process.

This is all the opinion of the conclusions we came to, but I hope some of it is helpful for you :) Good Luck!

Asia: SouthWhat's this mean?

Bleh....if I have to reapply, how long do I have to wait to reapply? I'm trying to understand the CR-1 process but I have so much going on I feel like I can barely read it...it's all in some foreign language only spoken by government officials lol. Where is my easy button......

0:00 - but I suggest 1:30 instead. Should take about that amount of time to fill out another K-1 or to fill out the I-130.

IE - you don't have to wait at all - once it's been pegged to be 'tossed back' to USCIS from a Consulate, you can apply for a new petition, IMMEDIATELY.

Good LUCK !

no - she cannot have anything in her carry on, that's liquid.

However -

if she buys it in the DUTY FREE SHOP, anywhere alongst her journey - it will be 'carried' for her on the flights. or
she can put it into her CHECKED LUGGAGE - no worries there.

if she buys anything at the Duty Free in Manila, she needs to tell the air stewardess to help her get it INTO the plane in Tokyo, showing the head steward the flight info on the 'next jump'. Basically, yer lass cannot touch it, once she's paid for it, until she comes off the plane in Houston.

Is some big problem with liquids and terrorism, but as long as 'Duty Free' - she has some hope to 'get it done'.

Good Luck !
