Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
Hey guys, longgggg timeeeeee, I have been reading, just havent had the time or patience to post n e thing... I think I am SCREWED. My fiance sent packet 3 back on Feb. 27th. Its been 2 1/2 weeks, havent heard n e thing. ALSO, I call DOS everyday and according to them, nothing has been entered into the system, therefore it means they have not recieved our packet 3 at the consulate. I tried e-mailing, I tried calling the embassy, maybe I am calling the wrong number or something, but no one answers. I just wish I could somehow find out if they recieved anything and have just not entered it into the system yet. I feel so helpless right now. I dont know where to go from here and what to do. I told the lady at DOS that I cant get through to anyone at the embassy, she said its only been 2 1/2 weeks, wait atleast 2 more, then we will look into it. I am just........... spent. Any advice?

Asia: SouthApril Interviews
Dear All,

I've received a call for the K1 interview at the Chennai Embassy on April 27th 9.00 am. I'm not sure if all my paper work will be in order by then, But encouraged by what I read here, I'm going to either submit only the ones that are ready before 10 working days and take the rest to the interview or submit it all together a lil' later at VFS. Any idea on which is a better approach?
And if there are any more April interviews lined up for VJers, do pour in.

They didn't charge us anything for his second bag now that I think of it (I've flown so much over the last 2 years that I have Elite Status with them so I don't get charged for anything). I just checked the website and it says the baggage charge doesn't apply for international travel. Here's the link:

What POE is going through? Newark was so simple!!!

Thanx Moksha. =) I did some googling and found Continental airlines office in Gurgaon, Delhi. I called them and found out that you can carry 2 suitcases free of cost ( 23 kg each ) and 1 carry-on ( 18 kg ). For more clarification you can call their following helpline number :-

Phone no : 0124-4315500

Address : Cyber Green, 2nd floor. DLF Phase III Gurgaon

Btw how is Tarun doing? smile.gif

Dilbert: We went through Newark and had no problem at all!! I brought Tarun into the USC line with me and when we got up to the counter I told the officer that I was the USC and he was my fiancee traveling on a K-1. He was really nice about it, stamped my passport and told me to go down to baggage and wait for him. I was a bit scared because I wasn't sure how long it would take, but he was literally done in 5 minutes. They took him to another room, attached the I-94 to his passport, said "you need to marry within 90 days, good luck and have a great life here" and that was it! So easy!

Karri: I know I said it in the other thread but I also wanted to say Congrats here too! You guys worked really hard and it all paid off in the end! Soon Sam will be with you and you guys have the rest of your lives to look forward to!!!!

I just want to ask one thing that how many suitcases excluding carryon you can carry with you. How much each suitcase should weight?

Congrats Dilbert and Gagan!!! And Dilbert, our thoughts are with you and your family! I hope all turns out okay.

Lovica....I would wait a few days. I think it takes them awhile to put the information into their system. We called DOS every couple of days to see if it was in the system. Calling DOS is easier (in my opinion) than dealing with the Embassy, and DOS has all the same information. The number is somewhere around page 9 of this thread.

We made it back to the States safe and sound, and POE in Newark was extremely easy! It took Tarun about 5 minutes to go through immigration. I brought him into the USC line with me and then just told the immigration officer that he was my fiancee traveling on a K-1 visa and he said no problem, told me to get the bags and then took him to a seperate room. They basically stamped his visa, said "you have 90 days to get married, welcome to the US and have a great life ahead!" That was it!!!

And he also told me he has a greater respect for me traveling all those times to see him...he was not amused by sitting on a plane for 15 hours laughing.gif

Oh...and I've already given him the Wal-Mart Supercenter experience!! that was a bit overwhelming for him!!! HAHAHA

Thats awesome. Btw did Tarun carry his X-Ray throughout the journey or put it in suitcase? Did the officer ask for it? Just wondering since that X-Ray is big haha and you can't even fold that.

Just got back from India. Our Visa got approved at New Delhi. General summary

1) Got there too early so had to wait as they would not let us in till 30 min before our appointment at 11:15 am
2) Once we were in at 10:45 am they handed us a number starting with J. This was the queue for IV visa's.
3) There were only 3 counters doing IV visa's that day so had to wait in the courtyard room till around 12:20 or so.
4) Went to the first window where he had the file we submitted for VFS. He took out what he needed from it and had us turn in 156/156K since those weren't allowed to be submitted at VFS. He returned the originals to us.
5) Went to another window to give the Interview fee (btw you can turn in cash in US dollars so you don't have to deal with drafts at all)
6) Went back to the original window with the payment receipt and he told us to go to the interview window.
7) I was with my fiance all throughout this.
8) At the interview window the guy said Namaste and we both said Hi just to indicate I guess we were going to talk in English
9) Then he asked me to sit down so he can ask my fiance questions
10) The interview was 5-10 min long. The interviewer was Indian. I could hear everything my fiance was saying since I was sitting fairly close and she was loud enough
11) Mainly the questions were about how we met and when we had met and the engagement ceremony. I think the fact that our parents had met seemed to help quite a bit as well.
12) He did try to trip her up with something about her husband where she corrected him about me being only her fiance.
13) She mentioned the engagement ceremony and asked if he wanted to see the pictures (which we hadn't submitted to VFS) and he declined and said he believed our relationship was genuine
14) Then he said that her visa was approved
15) When she asked if she could pick up the passport from there or VFS he said they would only courier it.
16) We were outside by 12:45 pm
17) She got the passport on Thursday (our interview was on Tuesday).
18) So all in all not too bad.

Btw we had submitted everything at VFS except for engagement ceremony pictures.

Gagan

Congratulations gp. smile.gif Thumb rule always go to interview with your fiance or fiancee if you want to get approved. The reason why they didn't approve my visa 'coz I went there alone. sad.gif

Hi Sam ,

So I am done with medical , now i need to go to VFS and submit every thing to them .

Ok so can you tell me what exactly you mean by the count . Like they will count the pages , if so man they will count mine till evening .

and what exactly do they say when you were trying to submit the additional information . What do you have to argue with them ?

Just asking cause i am a not good arguer sad.gif

Thanks

How many envelopes did u get for medical report? And which envelopes did they tell u to submit at VFS or Embassy? Did you get any X-Ray?

Anways don't worry abt count. They only count the emails, letters, phone logs and pictures. You can do that counting the home.

I was arguing abt submitting more evidence like itenararies, shopping receipts etc.

If they don't take the letters, emails etc then you need to request them to take it. =) And don't forget to bring originals of your personal docs at VFS.

I wonder if tomorrow is a holiday there.

Anyways if u have any questions then u can call me.

Thanx ClassicRock for all that info.
So today I went to VFS to submit my docs. They took the following things :-

Passport ( They will give it back to you. Use that to confirm your address)
Appointment Letter ( 1 copy )
4 pictures ( 50 x 50 )
DS - 230 Part I ( part one signed & dated) and II ( One copy in original )
DS - 156 ( signed and dated ) ( One copy )
Copy of Passport
PCC ( From Passport and Police station in original)
Affidavit Of Support

Birth Certificate ( Original and clear photocopy )
Secondary evidence ( 10th certificate original and photocopy - I didn't have original at that time so they took only Birth Cert. =( and told me to take that to interview. =(
Secondary evidence - only required if ur name is not mentioned on ur birth cert. So its better to get an affidavit for that.

Unfortunately I only have birth cert original at that time. =( I wish I knew that u take secondary evidence in originals too. Anyways I'll get back to that later.

Medical Report ( There were 2 big envelopes that I had to give them but they took only one. They didn't take my X-Ray and said don't bring that to interview. But from where I got my medical done they told me that X-Ray and that other sealed envelope are for embassy. Ugh so much confusion. )

Then I had to argue with them a little in a polite way to submit other stuff. wink.gif

Letters
E-mails
Phone logs
Pictures ( Engagement pictures, pictures from all trips - don't forget to include pics with family wink.gif )

Fee - Rs 387

They will count all the things for you i.e. emails, letters, pics. Ya count count 1 + 1 = 11 wink.gif

After that they gave me a receipt with a checklist. The checklist contains all the docs that u submitted with VFS. And you are good to go. It was a good experience. I wish I had my 10th certificate originals with me. =(

So guys my question is when should I submit those two docs i.e. Affidavit for name on birth cert. and my 10th certificate. At what point exactly? Do they ask for docs when they ask for ur VFS receipt or draft? They told me to bring those to interview otherwise I might get a 221 (g).
I'm so nervous. sad.gif helpsmilie.gif

Okay guys don't worry much abt VFS fee since it will always be less than Rs 500.

About the Visa fee u need to make a bank draft from HDFC bank ( need confirmation on Bank ).
The bank draft must be issued in the name of “The American Embassy, New Delhi”, and should be payable in Delhi.

http://newdelhi.usem...vk1packet4.html

and check latest fee here.
http://newdelhi.usem...sdec192008.html

Btw the new visa fee is Rs. 7,205 (equivalent to USD $131).

You need to submit that draft at your interview. They will ask for it then. =)

I hope this helps.

As PP said, your fiancee can carry in your passport, and you could carry a cell phone and wait across the street, so that they know you are there, and if they do end up wanting to talk to you you can be in the room within minutes. Another visit would also go towards more bonafide evidence, just by being another visit, plus if you go, say, a week before the interview you can take more photos etc to bring to the interview.
