Congrats Dilbert and Gagan!!! And Dilbert, our thoughts are with you and your family! I hope all turns out okay.

Lovica....I would wait a few days. I think it takes them awhile to put the information into their system. We called DOS every couple of days to see if it was in the system. Calling DOS is easier (in my opinion) than dealing with the Embassy, and DOS has all the same information. The number is somewhere around page 9 of this thread.

We made it back to the States safe and sound, and POE in Newark was extremely easy! It took Tarun about 5 minutes to go through immigration. I brought him into the USC line with me and then just told the immigration officer that he was my fiancee traveling on a K-1 visa and he said no problem, told me to get the bags and then took him to a seperate room. They basically stamped his visa, said "you have 90 days to get married, welcome to the US and have a great life ahead!" That was it!!!

And he also told me he has a greater respect for me traveling all those times to see him...he was not amused by sitting on a plane for 15 hours laughing.gif

Oh...and I've already given him the Wal-Mart Supercenter experience!! that was a bit overwhelming for him!!! HAHAHA

Thanks moksha, i tracked my case by reference and it was the only one for march 26th to delhi so pretty sure its mine, and it says delivered on march 30th, ill try calling the embassy today and try calling dos tommorow

Hey Everyone,

I have question...my fiance's interview is end of next month. I was debating if I should fly back for his interview date. does it make any difference if I go?
I had talked to the consulate and he said it doesn't matter if I go or not..b/c they will only interview my finace.

Thanks for your help

If you have the means to go, then GO! I know a gal who got interviewed too when she showed up, went to the window with him and it helped her case.

I agree with kari , If u can go u should go . And are u talking about us kari ha ha . It does help a lot . Just the presence would help emotionally for the co , the confidence leavel is high with the presence of urs .
I guess we were totally lucky that we both got interviewed .

hey moksha did you get married in court? or somewhere else?

im lookin for a white dress

hmm , cant find that many online

We had a small wedding with about 40 people at a clubhouse. My aunt is a JP so she officiated. It was perfect for us. Very small and intimate...plus, when you only have a little over 3 weeks to plan you kind of have to smaller. His mom is an astrologer so she picked our date so that was set and we had to plan around it.

I found my dress at a store called David's Bridal. I'm not sure if they have those out on the west coast. Look around and see if there's any wedding stores near you. I'm sure you'll be able to find something!

He's doing good...been driving a little to get used to driving on the correct side of the road. He got his international driver's license so he wasn't stuck for 6 months waiting for his greencard to be able to drive! It's starting to get a bit warmer here which is nice too...it's been really yucky weather, but that's what April in NH is all about! It will be hard for him to sit at home while I work though, he's going to go a little bit stir crazy I'm sure, but he knew that coming here so we'll just find places for him to volunteer and things for him to do and hopefully the time will pass quickly for him smile.gif

Are you all packed and ready to go?

They didn't charge us anything for his second bag now that I think of it (I've flown so much over the last 2 years that I have Elite Status with them so I don't get charged for anything). I just checked the website and it says the baggage charge doesn't apply for international travel. Here's the link:

We also fly Continental straight from Delhi to Newark (love the straight flight, even though it is 15 hours on one plane) and the weight limit is 50 pounds per bag which is about 22 kgs. You can have one carry on plus a laptop I believe.

Dilbert: We went through Newark and had no problem at all!! I brought Tarun into the USC line with me and when we got up to the counter I told the officer that I was the USC and he was my fiancee traveling on a K-1. He was really nice about it, stamped my passport and told me to go down to baggage and wait for him. I was a bit scared because I wasn't sure how long it would take, but he was literally done in 5 minutes. They took him to another room, attached the I-94 to his passport, said "you need to marry within 90 days, good luck and have a great life here" and that was it! So easy!

Karri: I know I said it in the other thread but I also wanted to say Congrats here too! You guys worked really hard and it all paid off in the end! Soon Sam will be with you and you guys have the rest of your lives to look forward to!!!!
MokshaFemaleIndia4/8/2009 8:14
Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
No, he packed it in his suitcase and they never mentioned it. I figured if they had asked for it I would have grabbed it out of his luggage since in Newark you have to take it from baggage claim and go through customs. It is huge...that's why we packed it! It was bad enough to carry that very heavy packet they give you for POE! His backpack was so heavy!!!

I just got back...One ?, at the POE what do they stamp for the beneficiary? Anything specific? do they stamp the duration of stay in the I-94. It has been pretty rough last 4 weeks...still coming to terms

yes, they stamp the I-94 with the expiration date (which should be valid for 90 days). Sorry to hear about the bad news in your family.

Update on my front.... got the civil ceremony done yesterday. No hiccups. Need to file for the AOS next.
Karri - guess, Sam is on the plane by now. congrats. I am sure you are excited and he will be the sight for your sore eyes when you see him as he steps off the plane....

lol. My prize will arrive in 9 days and I'm going to spoil him rotten. =D Do you have any idea how hard it is to plan an American wedding in less than a month? I managed to crank out most of the details in the last 36 hours and I'm so exhausted. Even found a girl to do my henna. =D Should I surprise Sam with our honeymoon location or shall I let him in on the secret? Haven't decided yet lol. Where abouts do you live Classicrock? How is the climate there? I'm trying to prepare Sam with the forecast for the 19th, he's going to be bringing his jacket. =D

I can imagine. You must have been busy with the 221g and all thrown down your way as well. Definitely spoil him and yourself, too. After all we have gone through with this visa stuff, I think we all deserve it. Don't you think I would keep the honey moon location a secret. Keep him guessing. It will add to the fun I think.
Carolina is always on my mind not just James Taylor's. Get it. I live in NC. It does get cold here but we have had some awesome weather. My fiancee is still cold (she is from Kolkata and when I was there it was in the upper 80s) but she is enjoying the weather. It's been sunny and been in the mid to upper 60s in the last couple of days. What about you ? You .. somewhere on the west coast ?
Good luck with the wedding prep. Not trying to make light of all the work you need to do, after all the K1 stuff, it should be a somewhat of a breeze.

Oh ok, I've been to NC once for work last year. It's a very pretty state! I myself live in Ohio and the winters here are brutal. Sam's never experienced -0C before ::evil grin:: It's been hovering around 5C this week. I grew up on the west coast through. Well the surprise honeymoon idea is out. I was thinking dinseyworld but it would be too much work to do in such a short time. People book those kinds of trips years in advance. Now I'm looking for something more relaxing and not as expensive, either within driving distance from Cleveland or a quick plane ride to California so I can show him where I grew up. If I do decide to go to California, ELW, let's arrange a get together!

yep, someplace warm would be nice. Given your location, I would suggest Niagara Falls. Romantic and hopefully, will not be too cold. Another great place is Gatlinburg, Tennessee -foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Depending on where you are in OH, may be bit of a drive (`7-8 hrs) but a great place.

Hey Guys:

Just an update. I just got back from India yesterday. Was there only for a week. Jet lagged. Went there to get my prize. AND YES good.gif , my fiancee is with me. Hard as it is to believe, she is laying next to me (no kidding), taking her beauty rest. She is just petered out from the long flight, the time diff. Her body clock is off.
JFK was my POE. It was a breeze. No questions asked. Got the EAD card, too. They just give it to you. Don't need it yet though as I want her to take it easy for a bit.

Dilbert/Moksha/Gagan - saw that you guys got approved, too. Congratulations. And Karri and Sam - saw that your 221g got approved too. That is great news. Happy for all of you.

Sam and Karri - really really sorry to hear that. crying.gif Hope it does not take too long for you guys. Speak the same language.!!!... that is a first. Don't those jerks know that love knows no boundaries... geo/race/caste/creed.. even Language for that matter...I can go on. You guys can communicate in English.. can't you ... this is insanity. Those guys have carte blanche when it comes to visas and they spare no efforts in exercising that...again, sorry to hear that. You will both be in my prayers.

Take one step at a time. Try to answer what they want without wasting any time. Other options would be DCF, which requires a 90 day stay I believe. Have not looked into it to know if that applies to K1 or just IR1/CR1 or K3 cases, in which case, you will need to marry. But, I believe, you do not go through USCIS, straight through the Consulate. So, that would be faster, I imagine. You can always do a K3. K3 cases from CA appear to not take as long...

Karri - Thanks.

Sam -It is important for us to find out if there is only HDFC that is acceptable...

Only ClassicRock can answer that question since he submitted one recently. whistling.gif

We did the HDFC draft and it was payable in Mumbai. In fact, in the draft they put the location of the HDFC branch where it would be payable. My fiancee already had an account with HDFC. If you do not bank with them, you can still go there and pay. They will not give you a draft to take with you to the Consulate but send the money on your behalf.

In our case, we were given specific instructions by the VFS office in Kolkata as it relates to the draft. They had listed HDFC branches in Kolkata where my fiancee could go to get the draft done. So, calling the VFS Delhi office may be a good idea for all you guys.

My take on all this...
I personaly would take the cash ($131) if I had the option/choice rather than 1) worry about the process (as it has be done just so); 2) depend on the vagaries of the market, given the exchange rate is changing. It has already changed from 50 to 52 to 55 in the last 2/3 weeks. My fiancee had one made at the 50 rate and then canceled to have one made for 52 just a couple of days before the interview and it has already changed to 55 I hear.
In fact, if my fiancee had posed this question to me when I was fedexing the I-134 and other documents after our NOA2, I would have put the cash in the fedex envelope. You can always get the dollars from a bank in India or have a travelers check made, payable in dollars.

Hope this helps.

I have a similar question.

Is this the website to fill DS 156 online?
# DS-156: Nonimmigrant Visa Application

http://evisaforms.state.gov/

Here's the link on the state.gov website that should have all the updated forms...

http://travel.state....forms_1342.html

DS -156 link is correct. You can start typing and at the end save/print unlike some other forms (believe it is DS 230 which you can only type and print but not save). Every time you start filling out the form it generates a new barcode. Don't worry about that. After you are done and you realize there is a typo, you will need to redo the process (which will generate a new bar code again - don't let that discourage you from correcting your typos). Make sure you print the completed form on both sides. The VFS office in Kolkata was very picky about that. I hear the Mumbai VFS office is the same way. Make sure you have paper that is heavier stock for legible print esp where you print on both sides.

Mesodenia - each VFS office can be different. My fiancee is from Kolkata and the VFS office there wanted all the documents listed on the Pkt 4 list (in the order listed). They also took relationship proofs (emails and phone call logs). I hear Mumbai VFS office only wants the forms.
For VFS, if you do not have all the documents, don't worry. You can take the rest to your interview. My medicals, for instance, were not done in time and my fiancee took them to the interview. Same for PCC, you can take it to the interview if you don't have that when you go to submit your docs.
Also, in my case, they wanted I-134 as well along with all the supporting documents (tax transcripts, employment letter, pay stubs, acct verification letter from the bank, W2). They took the B/C, PCC originals.

Hope this helps.

Good luck guys.

Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
Hey guys, longgggg timeeeeee, I have been reading, just havent had the time or patience to post n e thing... I think I am SCREWED. My fiance sent packet 3 back on Feb. 27th. Its been 2 1/2 weeks, havent heard n e thing. ALSO, I call DOS everyday and according to them, nothing has been entered into the system, therefore it means they have not recieved our packet 3 at the consulate. I tried e-mailing, I tried calling the embassy, maybe I am calling the wrong number or something, but no one answers. I just wish I could somehow find out if they recieved anything and have just not entered it into the system yet. I feel so helpless right now. I dont know where to go from here and what to do. I told the lady at DOS that I cant get through to anyone at the embassy, she said its only been 2 1/2 weeks, wait atleast 2 more, then we will look into it. I am just........... spent. Any advice?
