Happy Valentine's day

I actually confirmed w/ DOS that our case has been entered in their system. Still waiting for the interview dates. I am actually hoping that we will get it in March. If you guys check the Feb dates, all the K1s are in early Feb. Will that be the case in March?

I am leaving here on the 23rd sad.gif Can't fly back for interview.

Classic will be the first to complete the interview. We can expect to hear from him.

I hope we made the cut off for March as well. Dunno yet though. =( Are you leaving on 23rd of Feb or March? How's India? How's your honey doing? I know 4 separate people going to India in March and I'm so jealous. devil.gif

Not to rub it in Karri, I was there in Dec and June, too last year (which was a record for me.. I did one every 2/3 yrs before) and will go soon to bring my fiancee back as soon as I am able. End of March or early April, I am guessing...

Yep, I will post as soon as I am done yes.gif . Guys - pls pray that all goes well. I can use all the help/support I can get just as everyone else here. We all need to pull for each other.

Dilbert - if you sent your P3 on 2/3 (hey that rhymes), I would say, there is a good chance that you will get a March interview, latter half, I would guess.
Karri - u might make end of March or early April at best.
What about Harsh/Moksha... haven't seen them here for a while. How are you guys doing ?

I stopped by Fed Ex this morning on the way to work. It cost a pretty penny to send him 5.5 lbs of documents and evidence lol. blink.gif Guaranteed to get there in 3 days, I need to see it to believe it. wink.gif

5.5 lbs !!! Geez, what did you put in there, rocks ? yes.gif

I have used them twice and it did get there in 3 days each time. And you can track it. I actually used my employer's account number to get a corporate discount and it was SIGNIFICANT. I am talking `70 bucks vs <$15 for a 1-1.5 lb package.

... and Karri ..you (err... I mean Sam) were only waiting with bated breath I might add for that expired form, huh !!! Kidding wink.gif .. Funny, you say that. My fiancee also got an expired DS 230. It didn't matter to us, however since we had already sent in DS 230 before we got our pkt 3.

hey, quick question... I was looking at this website.... http://newdelhi.usem...acket309k1.html .... and under "APPLICATION FORMS" it says........ "attached forms DS-156, Nonimmigrant Visa Application, for each applicant (two for each applicant)."....... Correct me if I am wrong... I dont see DS-156 attached anywhere????? I just see DS-230 Part 1 and 2.... and I-134 attached, but NOT DS-156.

ALSO.... I am guessing the I-134 has to be an ORIGINAL copy right?... or, can I fill it out and FAX it over to her?

Harsh - If I were you, I would send an original signed copy of the I-134 (not a faxed copy). Also, with I-134, I sent the following
- letter from my employer (original, on company letterhead)
- Account verification letter from the bank (listing the details required)
- IRS transcripts (need most recent year, but I included last 3 years, although only submitted 2007 at the VFS office)
- 1040 2007 incl W2 (don't need 1040/w2 if you have transcripts. I had it so I did).

Also, since I have not filed 2008 taxes, I sent a notarized copy of the 2008 W2, in case they ask at the interview.
The VFS office in Kolkata asked my fiancee for the entire pkt 4 list incl. proof of relationship stuff (phone records, emails) and we needed to submit everything at least 3 weeks in advance. I don't know about the Delhi embassy schedule but if I were you I would fedex the I-134 documents ASAP if you haven't already.

Karri - about K1 being a non-immigrant visa, no argument there, and this may be a semantic point, but for all practical purposes they treat a K1 visa very much like an immigrant visa as the intent is to immigrate (why else would you go through that god forsaken medical test list .. ever seen a tourist B1/B2 non-immigrant or H1 work visa applicants go through that list ?laughing.gif). In fact, all K1 packets are under the IV section on the Mumbai Consulate website. Coincidence you say.. I think not. no0pb.gif

Hey Harsh,
Congrats on getting out of NVC! The number for DOS is 202-663-1225. The options of what to press are in this thread somewhere...I think Dlibert had actually posted them a little while back. I would say give it a couple of days for them to get the case into their system and then call DOS. You'll need the NWD number that you got from NVC, but they were actually very nice. I called them just yesterday because we sent Packet 3 to the Embassy so I'm patiently waiting for them to log it in and schedule an interview for us! I'm going to go to the interview with him so the sooner I can get the date the sooner I can buy plane tickets!

Harsh - I did post the info on DOS. Look at post #63 from me. The seq is (1x4x2x3x0). Good luck

Karri - if the embassy says they have recd your file and sent you packet 3, what are you waiting for ? A formal invite yes.gif . Kidding... Hurry up and mail your packet 3 already.

Dude! I told my fiance to mail it in but he said he wanted to wait until he got it in the mail. =( You can yell at him for me if you want. We are loosing about 7-10 days by waiting ugh.

Send him my way, I will rough him up for you and talk some sense into him tongue.gif .
Seriously though, I don't see how it could hurt. Send it in and while you are still twidling your thumbs and holding your breath and turning blue waiting for the pkt 3 to arrive, call DOS and you may find out about your interview date before you get your pkt 3 (that happened in my case). In the end, it may not be such a big deal...just a matter of few days.

Harsh - the pkt 3 is a generic not a customized packet. So, if Karri's fiance does decide to send in pkt 3 twice (and he should only do that if it was not recd at all), not like they won't see that it is already in the system. The systems can't be that archaic. It is really their personal decision that they feel most comfortable with.

Update - I used the less familiar email address for the New Delhi embassy after a week of no response from the main one. They responded within 24 hours this time and said they received the case and packet three has been sent etc. They didn't give me any date references but at least it's a response! Do you think if I call DOS back now they could possibly give me the date the embassy received it and sent packet 3? or should I just hang tight and wait until he gets it? Fyi, the two email addresses I used are listed under the Embassy guide.

Karri - if the embassy says they have recd your file and sent you packet 3, what are you waiting for ? A formal invite yes.gif . Kidding... Hurry up and mail your packet 3 already. I resorted to calling the DOS, just like others, 'coz those (asinine) folks at the embassy wouldn't bother to respond, right...
Besides, what have you got to lose (besides time). I suspect when they say they mailed you the packet (from the date in their system) and when it actually happens could be a few days apart. In my case, the system said Pkt 3 mailed on Jan 8 (per DOS, which turned out to be true as the letter inside pkt 3, when I finally did receive it was Jan 8), but the packet was actually mailed on Jan 20 and I recd it on Jan 24.

Dilbert - enjoy your trip in India. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Harsh/Moksha... good luck to you guys....

hey guys, long time, I got really busy because there is construction at our house, and my grandfather is really ill, not to mention work has been crazy... n e way, finally got around to some paperwork, got a quick question, on the DS 230, part 1, where it asks for all the "SPOUSE" information, do we put N/A on that, since its a fiance visa? OR do we fill it out with the fiance info because I will be the FUTURE SPOUSE??? lol

OK, I am going to be a dork and answer one of my own question here.... I am guessing this is the right answer...

DS-156 is for a NON-IMMIGRANT VISA, which will not apply here, so we dont need to fill it out and send it.... the DS-230 application is the one that applies to us because we are going for an IMMIGRANT VISA... is that it? So I dont have to fill out and send DS-156 at all.

Ok, I couldnt control myself so I called DOS today, according to DHL, the consulate recieved my file on SATURDAY morning, I didnt think there was anyway they would have put it in the system by now... but to my pleasent surprise, the DOS lady told me, they put it in the system and already sent out the "instruction package". I asked if that was "packet 3" and she said "yes, they sent out the instruction package." I am going to get the final pieces of my packet 3 together in the next couple of days and send it to them asap... thanks again for all your advice guys.

Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
Karri... sorry to hear about your company, what line of work are you in? If you are planning on a wedding sometime in May, then you are still ahead of schedule even if you do not send your packet 3 in right away, you should be fine with the amount of time it takes with the process going on its normal speed... ALTHOUGH, I would recommend getting it done ASAP, because you never know what can happen, any kind of undue delay can occur at anytime, so its better to be safe... The world is becoming ever smaller and the smallest thing like a local election, to something big like a terrorist attack can cause delays in the process.

p.s. My family lived in Mohali back in the late 80s and early 90s for a while, I think that is near Chandigardh... : )

Moksha, I got the confirmation from DHL today that the embassy recieved our file... how long should I wait to call DOS... 48 hours should be sufficient right?... also, if its not too much trouble, where did you print out packet 3, because I found it online at MULTIPLE locations, which is the correct one that worked for you?

Moksha, I hear ya, I got back from India on Jan 23rd and I am still kinda depressed lol, jus wanna be with her so bad, the only thing keeping me going is the fact that the process of the K1 visa has sped up since the NOA 2. Cant wait for that DHL thing to say "shipment delivered", as soon as I read that, I plan to wait 48 hrs, and call DOS.

Hey guys... spoke to NVC this evening and the lady said my file has been sent to the consulate as of Feb 3rd, I checked DHL tracking and indeed it was shipped out on the 4th (assuming that is my file going to New Delhi) and departed NY this morning at 7 am... Now I guess I will wait a few days then call DOS for an update... can you guys tell me the DOS number again, if its not too much trouble, and from what I had read earlier, I guess it is pretty easy to deal with them right? Also, how long AFTER it reaches New Delhi, should I call DOS?
HarshMaleIndia2/5/2009 20:02
Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
Hey guys, got my formal letter from NVC... "The NVC has recently recieved an approved I-129F petition filed on behalf of your fiance. This letter is to let you know that within a week the petition will be forewarded to the appropriate visa-issuing post where your visa interview will take place"... bla bla bla....

Guys, is it safe to assume that this is a good thing lol.... I was reading some horror stories in another forum... someone had typed that they were calling NVC for the past 5 weeks, and kept being told they were in "administrative processing"....This doesnt seem like a pre-printed letter, so do you think they will ACTUALLY send it within a week, or is there still a chance that I could be stuck in administrative processing?... I was thinking, I'll keep an eye on the DHL tracking system, and as soon as the next batch of packages are sent out, I will call and check if they were sent... Was there anyone you guys know that got stuck in processing for an extended period of time? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer. Hope you guys are having a good week.

Karri--- Maybe he just doesnt want to take the chance of any confusion or undue delay happening because of 2 packet 3s in the system, 1 that they send you, and the other that you print out and send them. Don't worry, all in good time. The hardest part deff ended when you got approved.

We are bringing extra copies just in case. You will have to sign part II in front of someone at the interview.

We did not use DS-230 Part 2. I think that is used for other types of visas.

You do have to sign DS-156K in front of them.

Hi Dilbert,

It looks like it's $131. I found this on the Delhi Embassy website:

FEES $131 or Rs. 6,812/- for each applicant. Visa fees are not refundable; they must be paid through a rupee bank draft drawn on a nationalized or foreign bank. The bank drafts must be issued in the name of ?The American Embassy, New Delhi?, and should be payable in Delhi. Traveler's check or cash in US $ is acceptable. As the rate of exchange can change, we recommend that applicants check the current consular rate of exchange at our website www.newdelhi.usembassy.gov or contact the Embassy ahead of their interview to obtain the current consular rate of exchange. At present, applicant has to pay the K1 Visa Fee $ 131 or Rs. 6,812/- (only single draft required) for each applicant. Using the exchange rate of $1.00 = Rs. 52/-. Exchange rate subject to change without notice.

Here's the link to find the website I am referring to:

http://newdelhi.usem...vk1packet4.html

Okay this is the actual amount you need to pay.

CONSULAR NOTICE
U.S. Embassy Adjusts Consular Exchange Rate

February 19, 2009

NEW DELHI -- Effective Friday, February 20, 2009, all United States Consular Sections in India will adjust the consular exchange rate from Rs. 50 to the dollar to Rs. 52 to the dollar.

This rate change is effective for all rupee-denominated costs of applying for visas and passports, including the nonimmigrant visa application fee paid at HDFC bank branches prior to the scheduling of visa appointments. The new application fee for nonimmigrant visas is Rs. 6,812 (equivalent to USD $131). Receipts issued by HDFC Bank prior to February 20, 2009 that reflect a payment of Rs. 6,550 will remain valid.

For a full listing of specific fee changes and more information on all U.S. visa and consular services, please visit the Embassy website at http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov.

Note :- Just check out the right side panel for latest info.

Can anyone tell me how many copies of forms do we need to submit at VFS?

First of all hi everyone. Now some intro. I'm Sam. Yeah Karri's Sam. wink.gif
Now congratulations to all who got their interview date. And those who haven't got their interview date yet then call embassy sharp at 10 am. You will go through in first try. Since we all know they like to sit at their table for atleast 30 mins before they can go out and have fun lol. Anyways jokes apart.

So today I got my medical done. It was easy. Some things to remember when you go for medical. Take photocopy of your passport, appointment letter and 2 pics ( 50 x 50 ).
Now next most important thing since we indians don't like to go to hospitals or clinics for regular checkups so please ask your parents whether you ever had MEASLES or MUMPS ( MATA in hindi ). Some ppl have that as a kind but as they forget that they forget abt that.

Okay ok lets make this short. If your report is normal then most probably u'll get it the same day in the evening. The medical process takes 2 - 3 hours and try to go their at 9 a.m. If you go there at 9 am then they will free you by 12 pm or earlier than that. But still u'll get ur report in the evening.

So in my report I got 1 envelope ( which is for me ) and 2 other big envelopes ( which I need to submit at embassy don't know if I can submit that at VFS yet ).
I'm not going to open those other 2 big envelopes since they are sealed.

Mokhsa
We can meet up at the interview. What do you say? I'll be nervous. whistling.gif

Dilbert
Dilbert if you have any confusion regarding visa fee then call embassy they are so helpful. =)

ClassicRock
I wonder how did your interview go. Try to post your review soon since we are waiting for that eagerly.

And lastly my regards to all who are active members of this thread. =)

Wow just read through a bunch of AoS threads related to submitting Form 693 about medical. What a mess. Anyways, getting copies of DS-3025 (I guess this is not that hard) and if possible the medical report seem to be the best idea at this point.

Lots of outrage about transcribing DS-3025 to 693 during AoS and TB skin test related issues during AoS.

Btw someone asked where my fiancee was. She is in Delhi and thats the consulate we are going through. She scheduled her medical for Friday 3/6 at the Zor bagh place.
I remember reading somewhere that you can get a form filled during medical which can help you not have to get the same stuff done during AoS. Anyone know which form it was? I think this is mostly so you don't have to spend the money again to get the same shots and stuff.

So I had a question. Do most people turn in originals of pictures (well the nice printed ones from digital pictures) to VFS and then carry another copy to the interview. What about all the forms? Do you turn in the originals to VFS or do you turn in copies and then carry the originals to the interview yourself?

Btw, as an update my fiancee did receive her Packet 4 over the weekend and it had the same medical appointment date of 3/9. Maybe it is a suggestion to try to schedule the medical by then. Anyways, my fiancee is going to call for the medical on Monday. She lives in Delhi so that probably helps.

And yeah it does seem like DS-230 Part 2 is NOT needed.

So I just called DoS and they said if I was aware that they had setup an interview for next month. And I said no. They said it had been scheduled for March 24. Wow that is pretty cool. Kinda weird that they would keep stringing us along and schedule them for next month anyways. Don't we need the Packet 4's for medical? Oh well I am just happy i get to see my fiancee sooner since I will go for the interview.

Yeah it seems like anyone with Packet 3 in early Feb will probably end up with April date. They told my fiance to call in 1st or 2nd week of March as well. And I doubt that they will schedule a March interview if they are sending packet 4's in March itself. Oh well just hoping it is in the first week of April at this point. Good to know they will have the schedule up in a couple of days. Atleast that will confirm that our dates aren't March (and hence most likely April for sure).

Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
So an update for us:

My fiance called last week and actually got someone at the Consulate who answered last Thursday 2/5. They said they had received the application from NVC and that she should just send in the Packet 3 (kind of odd for them to acknowledge that she should just send it in without waiting to receive it). Meanwhile, I had called DoS last week every day and they seemed to think that the Conuslate hadn't gotten the application in mail yet. Anyways, she mailed Packet 3 in Friday (2/6) through DHL and since she is in Delhi they got it on Saturday 2/7. She called on Monday (India time) to check if they had gotten it and they told her to call in the first or second week of March (really odd) again. Anyways, I called DoS on Tuesday (US Time) and they had no clue what was going on. First she almost told me the application was in AP. Then when I told her about what had happened with my fiance and the Consulate, the lady at DoS told me to do whatever the Consulate tells us to do.

Anyways, I always thought you could get some information from DoS but so far the Consulate has been slightly more responsive although the whole call in March kind of baffles me.

Hopefully we can figure out when they schedule the interview from somewhere rather than waiting for Packet 4 the whole time.

Hey Karri,
We're actually still waiting for our date too. I've called DOS a couple of times and they say that the Embassy received our Packet 3 info in the beginning of Feb, but have not scheduled our interview yet. I'm going to try back again on Monday or Tuesday. Usually the next months interview schedule is posted on the Embassy website around the 15th, so I'm hoping when March's list comes out in a couple of days our case number will be on it!

I do wish they would hurry up though...I'm in complete limbo waiting to book plane tickets to go for the interview. I even have my boss on standby for the dates that I need off. Good thing I have such a flexible boss!!!

Can you please send me the link of where you are checking the calenders with the case #'s. I didn't know you could do that!

Congrats Moksha! I'm sure the two of you are very excited!

Karri and Sam - I'm so sorry. But all is not lost! You have a chance to go back with more information and you should do your best to try and explain/prove away any issues they may have. To me, the biggest thing that came up would be the language request. Does Sam get a little tongue tied in English when nervous???? From the CO's point of view, if there is poor communication how can there be a strong relationship. In theory, most would agree with that - BUT, if around you the English comes easily well who's to argue that. The trick is proving that. Did the CO ask him to read any emails or chatlogs out loud? Has Sam emailed you extensively or did you have volumes of chat logs to send in? That may show his english skills.

The voter's card can be a nightmare - do not be surprised if the dates are off or if he's only listed for some years and not all five. If elections aren't any time soon in his neck of the woods and there are issues with that, he may be able to have things fixed before sending in the additional info. I know of people who've had the wrong bday listed, wrong name spellings, or wrong family name issues - if this comes up, pm me. Somewhere in my archives I have something with the office and title of an municipal employee that may be able to write a letter explaining away the discrepancies...

Ok - now - worse case - you DO have options, you CAN impliment plan B, C, or D [how every many you have] down the road. But, for now, focus on getting your 221g info together and out to VFS. Yes, you can marry him there but it will be an involved process timewise [special marriage act means a good 30+ days]. Yes, you can file for a CR1 or K3 after that. But please keep this in mind - people with 221gs sometimes get the visa too, they just have a little more of a wait - so take it one step at a time, call your officials and get them on the case too, after handing in the info email [and/or call] the embassy weekly and call DOS weekly.

We are doing good! Sam got a job a few weeks ago and is working in his field so he's happy. In a few weeks it'll be one year since he's been in the U.S. Amazing how time flies!

Hey Everyone,

I have question...my fiance's interview is end of next month. I was debating if I should fly back for his interview date. does it make any difference if I go?
I had talked to the consulate and he said it doesn't matter if I go or not..b/c they will only interview my finace.

Thanks for your help

If you have the means to go, then GO! I know a gal who got interviewed too when she showed up, went to the window with him and it helped her case.

I agree with kari , If u can go u should go . And are u talking about us kari ha ha . It does help a lot . Just the presence would help emotionally for the co , the confidence leavel is high with the presence of urs .
I guess we were totally lucky that we both got interviewed .

Who else would I be talking about wink.gif

Hi guys!!

This thread is full of valueable information and thank you for all contributers. I really really appreciate it.
My Noa2 got approved yesterday and I am waiting for the hardcopy of it. In the mean time i saw this thread and have got couple of questions for you guys.

First, do i have to send aything to NVC or do USCIS forwards my file ( noa2) to NVC ?

Second, on question 3 it asks about "Name of spouse and children accompaning or following to join person." In my case it is just my finacee, so do i put just my finace's name?? or put none?

Third, I was looking at package 3 and on Question # 7 it asks for Type of business and Name of concern. What do i put?? I am confused. In business i assume i will put my employer's name and what is that name of concern??

Last question, on Question 11 it asks me about my intend. I wrote i will support my fiancee with anything and everything that he needs until he can legally work in the US. Is this good enough?

Thanks in advance. I am freaking out here. crying.gif crying.gif

Wow, someone found our old thread ::giggles:: I can help answer some of those questions. First of all, you do not need to send anything to NVC, USCIS automatically forwards your file to them, a lot of it is electronic. You will however receive a separate notice from NVC about your case. Just that they are looking at it and passing it along.

Put none, as your finance is not your spouse YET.

Sorry, I don't know about the last two questions, where are they from? Package three depends on the consulate and the info varies. Which one are you going to? I don't remember those questions being asked for Delhi.

What's everybody been up to? For me, I've been buried alive in wedding plans. Sam's been here for a week and we've been swamped. I guess we can relax after the wedding whistling.gif until we get ready to file AOS blink.gif

Sam is here now and is snoring loudly in the back room. I'm still in shock guys. I still haven't heard his complete travel story yet but I do know it took about 3 hours to land and get to his next gate. I'm glad I gave him a long lay over! Will keep you posted later. =)

Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
Yes it is normal to take that long. In the meantime you can all the embassy to see if they've received your case. If they have, you can submit packet 3 before you receive it in the mail.

Guys, Sam is heading to the airport right now. He'll be on that plane in in about 7 hours. blink.gif
