PhilippinesPassed Interview!! =)
Good morning all. Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the valuable tips and information. Im so glad that this part of our journey is over. Now that she passed her interview, is there some kind of seminar that she needs to attend? Also, what should she expect from the package/letter from the embassy aside from her passport and visa?
Thanks again.

Hi,
I don't mean bad when I say this so don't all jump on me.....but why do most filipinas always ask questions like this? It makes them sound like they just were searching for an American victim to pounce on!! When you talk about "looking for a certain race" in makes you sound like gold diggers!! So many filipina post like this and it makes them all sound the same!!! Hard to respect this style. Thats maybe why there are SO many filipina girls married to their "grandpa". You know the ones you see here that are so young and pretty looking with some old fat white guy? WTH! Funny, I live in manilla for over 5 years and almost never saw filipina girls with older filipino guys....but let a fat white guy walk down the street and he was like fresh meat in the jail......I guess he just looked like a big DOLLAR sign!! Here's a hint, filipinas.......clean up your image by having some self respect!!

Well,I am a Pure-blooded Filipina....reading your post hurts me BUT then again, I respect you..you have every right to say what you feel.."Freedom of Speech" as they say. Been in Pinas all my life, so yes, i saw a lot of pinays who are married to as what you call their "grandpa" and its not really good to see (physically together)

I was with my husband who's a USC (half pinoy/half american) and here's his initial reaction when we saw couples where the guy is really old for the girl (go at the back of Mall of Asia, they call it break waters, there are a lot of couples there...FYI): "eeewwww.....can she take making lovey dovey to him? or maybe she just needs his money coz he will die soon?" I didnt get mad when he said that...that is his reaction and that's how he sees it.

Here's the deal sweetie....I know it will be hard for us to clean up our image with you Americans and I dont know if we ever will....but I guess whatever their motives are we dont have any business to it...whether for money or Love...we really dont care.

I married my husband because of LOVE and I love him to death. How about you? is it Love too? well...whatever it is..its their prerogative! lets just live our life and dont mind them.....okay? good.gif PEACE

Finally someone else see's this!! Well everyone always "see's" this, but too busy trying to be nice and just don't want to say it!! Sorry, sad, but true. Not all are like this......but seems to be very common. There are some good ones, like my fiancee, but many are giving them all a very bad name!

Trying too be nice??? on which part of it you where nice? whistling.gif

She wasn't saying the OP was being nice, rather that other people are being nice by not saying it. The OP was just stating his observations...which MANY have observed and thought the exact same thing. I mean give me a break, there are Philipina catalogs, a website which many have met on VJ originally met through that is specifically for meeting Philipinas - what does that say?

PhilippinesCan I go through the same Customs line as my wife?
We were allowed to go through the US citizens/permanent residents line together, even though I was only holding a K1 visa. We were also allowed to stay together at the secondary inspection. Just ask the immigration officers politely, that's what we did. They were very nice to us (POE Washington Dulles).

Good luck and all the best! good.gif

I now have a file number which was pre-filled in the form they sent me to fill....that is not a problem

But at the BOTTOM of the form they ask for ALIEN Registration number?

I am bit confused....

Since I am a citizen now.....and no longer have a green card... should i write NONE?

As with all government forms....confusion rein..

LOOK AT UR Naturalization Certificate.

PhilippinesSending money to the Philippines
"I am trying to send a large ($1-3k) at a time. About to start building a house over there for about $10k which might take 3-4 months to build. I assume all this paperwork stuff is ways for the government to find more ways to tax me or something, dunno. Banks and websites getting real paranoid with large amounts of cash. Just same, its not like I'm trying to transfer $100k or anything."

U filed for K-1?
Just for some advice. Do u plan to live in Philippine? or ur building house for ur gf / her parents?
If u have plan to build the house there, ITS BETTER FOR U tO BE THERE IN PERSON TO SEE and Check MAke Sure
It's being Built.

JUST think abt ith Before u just trying to send money.
if u must , u should bring bring the TRAVELLER"S CHEQUE to philippine in person.

That way u it could get there once and u know the plan, and could talk to the ppl who will build the house.

Philippinescheapest ways to ship personal effects
QUOTE (ryandgracey @ Mar 28 2009, 07:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We shipped two balikbayan boxes of our personal belongings to my husband in OH March 7th thru Manila Forwarders. Boxes reached CA (where their port is) about 10 days later. There was a problem with with US Customs bec my husband's signature not matching the one on his passport which created a 2 week delay. He called their office yesterday and he was told that customs has released the boxes and will be at his doorstep within the week, hopefully. There is an additonal fee if boxes are to be delivered outside of L.A. I think I paid a little over $200 for each 70-lb box.

You are the spouse of a K3 visa holder so that, provided you ahve been in the Philippines within the past year, you may have her stuff shipped to there. She cannot ship on her own as she is a non-immigrant spouse and she will be needing a SSN for the Supplementary Customs Declaration. Oh...and this is a One-time privelege only for USC's and legal permanent residents. I found it cheaper than fedex or dhl or even Johnny Air Cargo. Unfortunately, there isn't much companies shipping out to the US. Is more expensive too, than it is to ship from the US to here.

One thing to consider is shipping some things via the old fashioned Post office. Details will vary by originating country, but I have sent items this way from Japan (where I lived for over a year) and two large boxes cost about $150. Make sure you send it via "Sea" or whatever they call their slowest most economical way. It can take up to two months, but generally will arrive in < 1 month for most countries. Send the heavy stuff you don't *need* right away, books, out of season clothes, etc. And definitely take what you can on the airline. Whenever we finally get my sweetie's visa, I am going to fly and travel with her here, and will use my baggage allowance as needed (I can travel for two weeks on about 25lbs of checked luggage).

Yes, I'm done with the interview today and the fun part is, I passed! My appointment was at 830 am but I was interviewed by the consul officer at around 915 am already. I brought a laptop bag with all the evidences in it. I thought they will still be asking for the I-864 and the tax forms. But they didn't since my husband already submitted it to NVC. I think I overdid the preparation for the interview. But it's okay. At least I can now relax and just book for my flight to California. The questions asked by both the pre-screener (pinoy) and the CO were almost similar.

- who is the petitioner?
- how old is the petitioner? how old are you?
- when did you meet?
- what's the work of the petitioner?
- who is the co-sponsor?
- how often does your husband visit you?
- when was the last time you saw him?
- have you been to the US before?

I almost forgot, I was asked to submit the CENOMAR, pictures, letters, emails, phone bills by the pre-screener. She did not really scrutinize the evidences. I think as long as you have them, you're good to go. They did not return the CENOMAR. Now my question is do i have to get another CENOMAR from NSO for the CFO seminar? or will the photocopy suffice?

They are now in transition phase of using Air 21 as their official courier. Delbros will be ending their services for the US embassy by the end of the month (as what the guy from Air 21 told me). So i'm just waiting for my passport and i am in the process of booking for a flight...going to try to be with my hubby on Vday. hehehe.

Thank you guys for everything. For making me feel that I am not alone in this obstacle. I thought that I am the only one experiencing the hardships of a long distance relationship until I got to know this forum. It will be my pleasure to help those who will be undergoing the same process that I underwent. I think that's the best way i can repay those who enlightened me in this forum. Congratulations to all those who passed the interview and good luck on our new lives with our spouses in the US.

PhilippinesBringing my wife over
hello fellow american! don't worry I am sure everything will be okey and you will get your wife here in the U.S. I know the economy is hard and without our love ones not around makes it more seem like a hell..but I am sure god is good..I wish I didn't get it get through me.After I graduated, I got a full-time and a part-time job when I got back to the U.S.... but the job was not what I dreamed of not my line of work..i kept on thinking I didn't become an engineer to just work in this crappy job..and the economy is hard..my husband is not with me..I can't eat and sleep...ugh, I shouldn't have thought of that too much...I lost my full-time job this january but I still have the part-time job ongoing so I am thankful for that..I admit I wasn't doing my best, I was so immovable, I compulsively obsess about thinking bad thoughts and I admit of being depress because my husband was not around..and it is hard because he is my inspiration..don't worry,..everything will be okey... I learned, I will not let this get through me again..I will find another full-time job and my husband will be here this march hopefully...I wish you the best..stay strong!!!! your wife and child is depending on you..... be strong!!!

QUOTE (martinbr @ Jan 26 2009, 08:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello everyone, I haven't been here for around 5 months due to an illness. But now that i have recovered from this, I want to continue to get my wife and her child over here to be with me. But I have to wait until I get a buyout from my job that is coming to a end in June, 09.

I am worried about bringing my wife over because of uncertainty of my financial situation. I have enough money to get here over here but I don't know if I am going to be working or in the unemployment line with so many other people that are out of work here.l

But with this buyout that I am getting from my job, it might be the only time for a long, long time that i would be able to pay for everything that needs to be paid to get my new family here.

Some people say I should just get her here and things will work out and that Filipinos are resilient and find some way to make it work wherever they are. There are a lot of Filipinos where I live in the S.F. bay area so maybe that would make things easier for here.

My only other option would be to just take a trip over there after my job ends and spend some time with her and try to bring her over here when things get better. I am just afraid it's going to turn into a big disaster if I don't have enough money to take care of them.

I miss my wife so much. It's going on two years since i have seen her and she really wants me to get things going here. I know she isn't going to wait forever although she said she would.

thanks,
martinbr

no, there isnt any need to reschedule an interview for your hubby.
if the consul just asked him to furnish new set of documents, he just have to come back to USEM once he gets them all and submit it directly to the specified windows (i think its 17 coz this was where i submitted a document they asked from me).

no worries, he just needs to bring back the documents once he has it.
just make sure he labels it well and tell the person-in-charge his case number so it wont get mixed up with other documents they have in there that are still stack in piles! hahaha..

good luck to you guys :-)

PhilippinesJust Finished My Husband's Interview at USEM (CR1/IR1) but....
My husband just finished his interview yesterday march 4th.. at the USEM..person asked him the regular interview questions..Then, they told him to come back, They gave him FORMS TO FILL-UP. He has to submit another NBI CLEARANCE with a different spelled Middle name same as his name, and Submitt another AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT I-864..and they told him to go to Window 17 n 24 when he gets back to USEM...

I already sent him the new I-864(Affidavit of Support) and he will receive it next week.
He will be getting another of NBI CLEARANCE next week also..

Did anyone experience this on their interview?
I am just wondering what will happen next?
Do I have to sched another interview for him?

Any advice:(

I can't sleep at all. Im worried of my NBI clearance I submitted last week . It required me to submit it using my ex hubby family name ..

example: GRACE Bastatas MANDULOG( single), my ex family name MERCADO. The consul put there in 221g aka GRACE M. MERCADO.Now, I check again my NBI tonight I have seen something..it is written as

AKA: MANDULOG DE MERCADO GRACE y BASTATAS

Should it be MERCADO GRACE MANDULOG right? I asked the NBI employee in MANILA and in our city to verify it but he said it is ok.My last NBI I submitted in my interview was MANDULOG GRACE y BASTATAS.

Please enlighten my mind on this thing. I am so worried now. Do I have to get another NBI in my area ????I plan to fly back to Manila to submit it again in USEM since I made photocopies of the forms (221g) and the blue forms I filled up last time.

Thank you VJ family for any information you can share.

Hello, everyone! I posted this earlier in the US Embassy and Consulate General Discussion, but I think it's more appropriate to post this here. I'm hoping someone deletes that other post...

Anyway, after some 500 and so days, my son and I finally got approved with our immgrant visas, and I couldn't be happier!
Here's pretty much everything that happened earlier during our interview:

5:30 am - My husband, my son and I arrived at the USEM. We were scheduled at 6:30am. There were probably about 20 or so people ahead of us who were already queud in the waiting area when we finally went through the security guard who had to verify our appointment in his list.

6:00am - The USEM employees began allowing people to enter the building. We went through the routinary inspection, walked to the immigration visa unit and were told to sit and wait to get our ticket number.

7:00am - My son and I were called to Window 16 for fingerprint scanning. I was told my son didn't have to go through it, and when I was done, we were told to sit again and wait for our number to be called for the pre-screening

7:30am - We were called to Window 19. I had a male pre-screener. He was really kind and polite. He asked me to fill out some parts in our DS-230 and to sign that portion of the DS-230 Part 2 that was left blank. He asked me if my son was born out of wedlock and if I was ever married to my son's father, and I said no. He asked if I ever submitted a CENMAR and I said no, however I told him I had one with me and he asked for it. He asked me who my husband is, where we met, when we first met, how many times he's visited, when his last visit was. He also asked what my husband did for a living, and I told him he's currently unemployed. He started going through our I-864s and he said it wasn't a problem, since we have a joint sponsor.

While the pre-screener was flipping through the I-864 we sent to the NVC, he asked me who the joint sponsor was and my relationship with them. However, my joint sponsor failed to submit a more recent income tax return. He asked me for some attachments, and I said we don't have any. I told him that we have another joint sponsor, and I then presented everything to him, together with the copies of the 2007 income tax, W2 from 2007, and the form I-864A (since taxes were filed together). He said that my second joint sponsor's documents were sufficient. He also asked if they filled out for my son, and I said yes. He went through them once again, and then told me that my second joint sponsor's stuff was what he was going to file for the final interview instead.

The whole time my son was just standing next to me. The only thing the pre-screener asked my 13 year old son was his birth date.

Finally he asked for our family photos (I gave him about 80 prints!), greeting cards, and some remittance receipts. And then he asked if we have ever been to the United States or if this was the first time for us to travel there. Then he told us to go back to our seats and to wait for the final interview with the consul officer.

8:30am - after one hour of waiting, we were finally called to Window 32 for our final interview with the consul officer. He was this middle-aged, white guy. He was wearing eyeglasses. He greeted me and my son, told us to sit, and asked me to take the oath.

He was pleasant, however, he had a terrible cough. He was coughing non-stop on his head set, and it was really loud! I could tell he was having a hard time, his nose was stuffy and he would cough like every 5-10 seconds. Poor guy. There were moments of silence as he would go through our stuff and type on his computer, and then he would cough again.

So, anyway. He asked the same things the pre-screener asked. Further, he asked about the other jobs my husband had before he became unemployed, why he's unemployed, about my husband's disability, our plans when we get to the United States, and where we plan to stay. He asked how my husband supports us if he's unemployed, and I told him through my husband's SSA payments. He asked if I knew how much he was getting and I told him.

After all that questioning, he went through our photos briefly, and began typing some more stuff on the computer. I was kind of worried because he wasn't saying anything at all. He then returned the photos, greeting cards, and remittance receipts back to me. Finally, with these two huge stamps, he stamped on our stuff and said, "This is it, ma'am. I have approved your visas." And I was like, "Really?! Thank you very much, sir!" He told us to sit again outside and to wait for further instructions for the releasing and paying for the visa delivery fee. He wished me and my son good luck on our move to the United States and with getting employed there.

I think we were in the cubicle for about 30 minutes. I bet we would have been done a lot sooner, but the consul officer's cough kept interrupting us. He had to stop a couple of times with what he was doing because he just couldn't stop coughing! I felt bad for him. And it sounded like he had asthma.

After about ten minutes, we were called to the releasing window. This lady handed me our appoinment letter and stapled two pink slips on them. She told us to pay for our visa delivery fee and to go home and wait. I asked what the pink slip meant, and she said she's not authorized to disclose that kind of information :-P

9:30am - Paid our visa delivery fees, and we were done like a champ!

So, now we wait some more. But at least the difficult part is over. I want to thank everyone here in VJ for all your help, especially to edp333, ryandgracey, and pretty_wahine09. My husband and I couldn't have done it without everyone's input and knowledge.

Btw, goodluck to pretty_wahine09 on your interview later :-)

I can honestly say that Air21 is a very good and professional delivery service within the Philippines. We got regular text messages from them letting us know that our visa was on its way. And its only been 6 working days since my fiancee left the USEM knowing our visa would be sent. And she lives up in northern Pangasinan. So that is far from Manila, and its still got there in 6 business days.

Just for some info, we had to go back and provide some extra documents, so we did not get a tracking# but the embassy did tell us that the visa would be there in 5-10 business days, and they were correct. But you dont get a pink slip if you have to come back and return with more documents. That is the only difference.

Philippinesheeelp...big problem..
Hi,

I am sorry to hear about this..but it will be alright.. you know,.I was laid off too a couple of months ago..but now I am on my feet again..I got 2JOBS now and my husband's interview went well,.they asked for another I-864..although I got co-sponsors so it doesn't really matter.. as long as she has everything with her on her interview..including your tax return for 2008 and w-2's it will be ok..
Don't let this get into you too much..you have to stand up..look for another job..because you know your wife is depending on you to be strong..
I know how stressful it is.. I sure wish this will be over..Good lUck..
