CanadaGuys, I need a hug
QUOTE (carslo @ Apr 24 2008, 11:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Laura,

Wow, you have a truck lot of troubles weighing on your mind. A virtual hugs is better than nothing - { heart.gif } haven't we all experienced those telepathic hugs via the internet. Immigrating to Canada is not as easy as some people might imagine:
1) No fiance visas - you must be married to sponsor your beloved.
2) It can take a long time - lots of folks here at VJ have given upon the coming to Canada immigration and decided that the K1 route is faster - go figure.
3) What part of NJ are you going to, I lived in NJ during junior and senior high and really liked the feel of the "Garden State."
4) You are a bright and bubbly person from all your posts, and I am sure you will have no difficulties forming new friendships in NJ. Generally speaking, men have more difficult forming strong male to male bonds (I said generally there are exceptions to the rule).
5) Do everything you can to be together in the near future - a job promotion is a wonderful experience , but there are advantages to living in the USA over Canada.
6) I wish people would realize that our health system is not free - most of us have to pay a monthly premium; either through our benefits at work, or directly to the province we live in. My fiance works for the IRS and was floored when he say how much I am taxed in relationship to US taxes. We Canadians pay for that "free" health care with our tax dollars, and highly also.
7) You are so close to the goal you and Nick have been preparing for - if you get the promotion stash away the extra cash to make your move to the USA the best possible.

These are only my 2 cents worth! I wish I was young like so many VJ's are and could look forward to many, many years together.

Janet aka Carslo

Thanks hon! smile.gif
We researched moving to Canada before we researched moving to the States, so I know we'd have to be married first before he can come here, but he can live with me while we wait for his PR....which could take a LONG time, hence the need for me to have a good job because he can't work.

I've read of the people who have turned around and forgotten Canadian immigration, that sucks...just tells me it's probably more frustrating than moving to the U.S.

I love Jersey, I do. Parts of it are crazy, the traffic, the huge malls where it's like.."WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!?!" LOL Currently Nick lives in Bergen County. We are looking at Essex and Passaic because it's a tad cheaper than Bergen.
I do love the thought of being there.

This job, like Krikit mentioned, isn't anything omg amazing. It's still in retail. It's just the most responsibility I've ever had in a job and would be a very big accomplishment for me. At the same time...I don't know if it's something I want to do for a very long time.

I think you are right. If I get it, I get it...I'll just keep saving as I have been saving.
I'd have to start all over again and we are so close to the end.

If I find out today about the job, I'll just go with it and see how I feel.

You guys are the best!!!
Thanks so much...honestly, thank you.

CanadaGuys, I need a hug
Thanks everyone...
You have no idea how much all of your support and advice means to me.

I'll just go with each step and see what happens.

Nick just called and told me he loved me. We'll work this out, no matter what happens.

My mom says that I've made the decision to move down there, so I should stick to that, no matter what happens.
Maybe she's right. I've committed to this and I don't want to start all over again if I don't have to.
I think immigrating to Canada is hard...who knows.

I guess the stress of not knowing my interview date, having no idea of when is killing me too.

It's just a bad day and I needed to explode a little bit....I'm feeling a bit better, I had a good cry.

Thanks again for the hugs, it's totally appreciated.

oh and then Nick states..."Maybe we started too early"

It's like...no..at the time I had no idea of the promo at work, I just started there, we wanted to get the ball rolling in being together...
We have two options now...and they are all up in the air.... crying.gif

girlwerewolf2xn.gif

I'm SO stressed people, you have no idea!!! mad.gif

First...
I'm up for a promotion at work. It's between me and two other co-workers. I had my interview for it last week and the admin manager was suppose to make her decision on the weekend. Well that came and went, nothing. Then Monday, nothing again. It's Thursday, I won't be going in until 2pm but I guarantee I'll hear NOTHING. unsure.gif

Why does this matter?

Because if I get this promotion (which I think I have a very good chance of getting) I don't know if I'll be moving to the U.S.

The whole reason I was going down there is because I was only part time and I didn't make enough money to support both Nick and I while he waited for PR. With this job, I would be able to and Nick coming to Canada would be possible.

My medical is fast approaching, still don't know my interview date but I'm sure I'll know soon.

Nick is looking at homes in NJ. They are SO expensive and crazy. We've found some we really like that are just over our price range and we could make it work. He's going to view one tonight. So, my life in NJ is forming too....

It's like I'm stuck between both places, completely on hold, not knowing where or what is happening.

I'm so stressed, I can't even believe I got my period right on time this month (Sorry boys) LOL but it's true....

What would you do? Canada is so....sigh...it's Canada. I love it here, so does Nick. The health care, the everything....NJ isn't horrible but if we had the chance to live in Canada, we totally would.

At the same time, I feel that Nick may be a little apprehensive to living here even though he loves it. All his friends are down there (I don't really have that many friends here, in fact, I have only acquaintances) So it's like....GRR! I don't know what to do!!! crying.gif

Help, I need encouragement and support.

You won't need the DS-230 part2. I took mine and they didn't want it. Also you should get his tax returns notarized to. Don't forget your duplicate of one of the DS-156 or maybe it is the DS-156K. Anyhow one of those needs to be in duplicate. I think it is the one with the bar code. Don't forget to bring your 2 payment slip for $131 that you had to pay at the scotia bank.

It's the DS156 that needs two copies of. Already sent that in with package 3 (it was requested)

Thanks for the other tips, I already filled out DS-230 part 2 so I'll take it just in case wink.gif

The cheque needs to be from Scotia Bank? Can't I just pay cash?

From my understanding of the packet 3 (checklist)... they might need the divorce certificate of your sweet aswell + copy
isn't it ?

Nick has never been married so no, they wouldn't need that.

I have a huge yellow bag (fabrics) can i bring it or no ?

I'll carry it under my arm...I won't need a bag for it...it's very compact...
They will probably not let you take a bag in there with you....I'm not sure. No purses at all, I know that for sure.

It looks like I'm part of the gang at immigrate2us.net for the next few months. I got smacked down with a 221(g).

I will give my reviews and experience on my train ride back to Toronto.

First, allow me to build the suspense about my situation with a simple statement. My experience is not even *close* or comparable to other member's review/experience/story. But don't fret! it was a good interview although I would love the outcome to be different than what I got.

Guess I didn't have any Irish luck in me today (St. Patrick day).

Anyhoo, I really have to thank all of you for your support.

CanadaCan I visit him while the K1 is in progress???
Well I'm here in NJ!
I got over the border no problem, they didn't even ask to see any of my paperwork I brought.
I told them honestly I was going to visit my fiance.
The nice man asked me when we were getting married. I told him we had filed for the K1 and we would be getting married shortly after that was issued to me.
He asked where I worked. I told him Lowe's.
He asked me when was the last time I was down, I told him October.
He asked when we filed, I told him December and then I told him where we were in the process.
He said "Hmm, you'll be here by summer! A nice summer wedding, how awesome!"
That was it and he sent me on my way.

My flight was all mixed up, there were major delays at LaGuardia, a few flights were cancelled but it ended up working out great, I landed 20 minutes later than I was originally suppose to.
This morning I woke up to pancakes and eggs from my man!!! smile.gif
Life is good!
Happy Easter all!!!

Don't lie to the officer. Remember that your passport is linked to your application, so lying could get you in trouble.

I had zero problems when crossing through buffalo to visit my fiancee and I was coming down for three months. All i had to show was my return ticket.

Honesty is the best policy.

Oh yeah, I was never thinking of lying..I'm sure I'll be fine.
