Hey Peachy...
I didn't take the exact sentences -- I took an idea from them. The only thing I took was about the online forum and where I'd gotten my information and statistics, you know? And not your exact verbiage either. Just thought that basing my knowledge on something might be smarter than not and that's about it.

I swear it reads so nicely and way more concisely than yesterday's version...

LGG

I don't mind sending it without our info -- it's not like I expect them to pull our file form the stack and such so....

I'd be careful. They can't very well just throw your file away, but it will almost certainly be added to it, and you'll be questioned as such at the interview. Further, it may make it into your USCBP file per someone else on here who filed a similar letter, so it may be brought up at the border every time you cross.

That said, they may just find your file based on your name alone anyway.

Not sure if our CR1 is listed on there -- there is a C1 but I'm not sure if that's the same thing. I would LOVE to know the numbers. Because if there were only 711 KIs, the number for CR1s must be about half that, I would say? AS the majority of visas like this are the fiance ones. Nice.

CanadaMy letter to Lee McClenny
Dear Mr. Lee McClenny,
I am a Canadian citizen being petitioned by my American spouse for a CR1 visa. We have gone through every stage so far and have since completed the NVC August 12, 2009. We are waiting for an interview date.

I have since found out that there is a HUGE backlog of cases at the Montreal consulate. The only Consulate in Canada that processes our particular type of visa. I would like to ask, why is this? Why is this the case when Canada is such a huge, sprawling county with a consulate in every major city? Does this not strike you as absurd???Now we?re all waiting because Montreal has slowed down. Did everyone quit???Did the budget get cut???Oh right, there?s nothing you can do now as Montreal is the only consulate that processes CR1 visas. I know, it?s a little silly, right??

I find this unacceptable to say the least. Not just for me, but for all of us Canadians who are waiting to be with our spouses and for those waiting for their K1s, in order to get married. I do realize, Mr. McClenny that immigration is a privilege and not a right ? I do know this but it?s so insulting and frustrating to see high-fraud consulates pushing 100s and 100s of spousal visas through a month whereas Canada is at a complete standstill.
I need to ask you ? could you not look into this? Could you not perhaps see if there is a solution? Our lives are on hold here and it seems so unfair. Some cases have been waiting 5-6 months even to be scheduled for an interview. I?m writing to you out of frustration and anger. We have no indication as to when we?ll interview thus, we cannot plan to give notice at our jobs and lodgings and other things we can?t plan for now. Would you be able to get his all done faster if Canada were a high-fraud country??This speaks poorly of us if we cannot process things like this when the majority are easy, concise and legitimate.

Anger is easy when we see most other consulates accomplishing all of the above with apparent ease and in a timely fashion.

We are tax payers. We are voters. We are upstanding citizens of the USA and of Canada. We are potential American citizens. You have a family, Mr. McClenny, how would you feel if bureaucratic red tape kept you apart, kept you from planning and moving ahead? I doubt very much that you would enjoy it at all.

Please look into what?s going on in Montreal and make some progress with our case and with all the other cases that are awaiting an interview.

Sincerely and I do thank you. Please also forgive my frustration but this system warrants some repair.

This is the letter I would like to send. Please advise or post your own and perhaps we can come up with some sort of concise template?

I tend to the emotional the verbose so.... I'd be happy with some constructive critique as well.

I'd like to mail this letter today.

We would definately like to move to a small town. I don't care if everyone knows my business - I have nothing interesting to share on that front - so enjoy. Less traffic, easy access to everything, QUIET - I see a lot of benefits.

I have always lived in a big city - even our jaunt to 'small town' Lake Mary in Florida - wasn't - it's no small town, it's simply a suburb of Orlando.

The problem is employment, which i'm sure it is for everyone - small towns are not known for their huge job opportunities - so that's a down side. Sometimes I think we should just go ahead and move to a smaller place and just see how the work thing pans out. I would really like to move to BC, perhaps Victoria or Nanaimo.

Wow! Well, I guess it never hurts to try, right? It does annoy me though that they'd be so unkind as to demand one thing but meanwhile, someone else in the same office accepts the thing we were told not to send in! Don't get me wrong, I'm happy if it works out for someone else this way but we would have been 9 weeks ahead if we'd done the same thing.

Well, it's just testament to the fact that there is a definite lack of consistency amongst the government offices!

CanadaMarriage Certificate
I cannot explain how some people got it expedited -- it could have been a few years ago and since then, they have really tightened up the regulations. What I CAN tell you? USCIS is NOT going to accept anything BUT the official registered marriage certificate. So, if it takes 6-8 weeks, that's what you will have to wait for. You can try and get the slip of paper they give you once you get married notarized but I'll tell you, the USCIS will not accept it. Try and send it if you will, they'll send you back your package or RFE you for it, but it all works out to the same waiting period.

The thing is, these visas are MARRIAGE Based -- they want to see some serious, hard-core evidence that you are married and that it's a fully recognized marriage within Canada.

Just my two cents but I don't think you have any other choice but to wait to have your marriage registered by the Province of Ontario.

Good luck.

I had called today, and asked about this. I know now that you must have your license registered first before you can request a Legal Certificate. On the information sheet I received, it says to call the Registrar allowing four weeks from the date of forwarding the license to them before calling for confirmation.

I will have to wait for the Letter of Urgency anyways to send with both the license and the request afterwards.

The lady on the phone mentioned, that you CAN take it to Toronto to request for the certificate, but it would take just as much time as mailing it in. I may not take that chance, and just take it straight to Toronto to request the certificate WITH the letter of urgency. I believe it would go faster anyways, because I would be handing it in personally!

Let me know if this works for any of you!

This is the information I was able to gather today.

I called the following service Ontario (see below) and they transferred my call to the Office of the Registrar

777 Bay Street
ON M5G 2C8
Phone: 1-800-267-8097

The lady at the registrar ( I also know her name) said the following:

?The priest has to submit the signed documents to us before you can apply for a marriage certificate
?The marriage certificate is only available within 8-10 weeks
?The only way you can get a marriage certificate in 5 days is if the marriage has been registered a long time ago OR if you have a letter from the consulate suggesting an interview date
?There is the option of writing a letter of urgency to the manager of the registrar but priority is only given to people with interview dates
?I mentioned how some people with marriages as a few days old were able to get the certificate in 5 days ,to that she replied that its impossible, and that we should reconfirm with them their wedding dates.

Basically she said its best to just “wait” as it was obvious she was discouraging any sort of expeditation. She also told me not to waste money on getting it expedited.

I was going through all the services that are offered by service Ontario and there is something called “Certified copy of Statement of Marriage (long form)” I am not sure what that is, anyone any idea, because if its something certified which means it becomes an official document, then maybe we can use that until we wait for the actual certificate.

I am going to get married, make sure my priest submits the document ASAP, and then I am going downtown to make it work. Show them the requirements of US immigration and speak to the manager if possible OR get them to write me a letter (notarized) that I have applied for a marriage certificate and it would be available in 8-10 weeks etc.

Since, I don’t’ understand, how some people can get it while others can’t. I also don’t understand how USCIS can approve visa application without a certificate for others but would give others people a hard time. They should know it takes 8-10 weeks to get a marriage certificate in Ontario!!

ANd NO, NO, NO!!!! Do NOT just send the record of marriage you get the day of getting married -- that is NOT an official document it is not an official Marriage Certificate, USCIS will NOT accept this. That is incorrect information.

You have to get the official document from The Registrar. If anyone else from Ontario can back me up, please do. But that slip is akin to a receipt of purchase, if I may, it's not the actual article.

I think both you guys need to relax a bit there are is SH1TLOADS of forms and stuff to fill out -- they're not hard but you need to be accurate and send these government organizations what they need or you'll only delay yourselves.

Okay?
Good luck. We're here to help. Really.

PS

@ambermiele...
I think your best bet is to call and see -- as you can see, someone from ONtario got lucky and was able to process this faster. Most cases of registering a marriage take between 6-8 weeks in Ontario. ours took 9. So, call them, call again and contact the poster who was able to have theirs expedited and see if they can help you.

And relax. There's a lot of forms to fill out and stuff to send -- if you rush too much you might make a mistake which'll only hold you up more.
Good luck.

Wow... I wish I would have known that -- we got married right in Toronto proper last year and were told that there was no way we could get it expedited... wish we had done what you'd done, Bowflex -- we'd be 8 weeks ahead of the game! Totally would have paid an extra 100$ too...

My wife and I were married in Windsor, Ontario, and were told that if we waited by mail that it could be months before it was ready. We called the Thunder Bay office and were told that if we went to Toronto we could get it right on the spot, it would just cost a whole lot more (I believe we paid about $100 more than normal back in February of 2006). My wife, parents, and I drove to Toronto for the day, picked up the certificate about a week after we were married, and had our documents ready for the lawyer to send in the next day. Good luck!

To Thunder Bay?
If I'm not mistaken -- the office of the Registrar is in Thunder Bay, ONtario and all marriage licenses need to be registered there?
Office of the REgistrar General

I'm pretty sure that ALL marriages, deaths and births have to be registered at the Registrar General.

Please correct me if i'm wrong -- I don't want to give out the wrong information if possible! This info that I have is only if they marry in Ontario. Anything else -- I have NO idea...

After our wedding, we HAND-CARRIED the paperwork to the county offices and we got the certificate on the spot!!! So, call and see if, by chance, there is an option to hand-carry the paperwork after the ceremony. What's the worst that could happen, they say no? Perhaps, they'll say YES!! Good luck!

Hey there CAN2US... are you getting married in Ontario? If so, then YES! We waited for 9 weeks to have our Marriage cert filed in Ontario and then sent to us. IF we ever needed another one, it'd only take like a week but that first time registering is a doozy.

And... you DO need your marriage certificate for the initial filing of the 1-130 for your CR1, there is NO point sending it in without your marriage cert or the copy of it for the USCIS... you cannot use the slip of paper that you get at your ceremony -- you need the actual registered marriage certificate.

Sorry about Ontario if you are in fact here -- that made me so mad as it's already a waiting game. Good luck. Apply for it as SOON as you get married, okay?

BEst,
LGG

Hey Everyone,

I was told by City Hall that a marriage certificate will take 8-10 weeks to issue, and we definitely need a copy of the marriage certificate to file for a CR-1...so is it possible for now to apply for the CR-1 based on the unofficial document given to us by our priest...and provide USCIS with a proof that we have ordered our marriage certificate and that once its available we will ship it off...??

Do you think its best to wait 10 weeks (AND delay our process )to get a marriage certificate and then file? Or should we go ahead with the filing and provide the necessary proof?

Please advice if anyone been in the same situation! thanks in advance!!
