Sorry to be off topic but I looked at your avatar DeadPool and realized that i'd cooked some bacon for dinner tonight.
Yeah.

QUOTE (DeadPoolX @ Nov 26 2009, 08:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My wife and I faced this problem. She currently has a good -- but not great -- paying job in Canada while I was going to school. Immigration finalized as I was just a few classes from graduating with a degree in psychology (I had planned to go onto graduate school). I was told I had a limited window in which to immigrate or we'd have to start all over. So I gave up my degree, even though I was so close to finishing.

If I go back to a university here in Vancouver, I'll easily lose at least one year, probably two (and I couldn't still afford it anyway). I already have one degree in graphic design, but I'd be better off wiping my a$$ with it. The graphic design field has gone from well recognized and profitable to something most people feel the "kid down the street can do" (even though they're wrong). Illegal versions of Photoshop as well as the proliferation of new design programs has turned graphic design into a hobby at best.

So I'm basically stuck without a degree and looking for work in a job market that's terrible. My wife and I can't afford to live on one income for much longer and I've practically drained my savings. I've been here for a little over one year and during that time my savings account has gone from $35,000 to around $1,500. All of these expenditures have been on necessary things as well. We don't even give each other gifts for birthdays, anniversaries or Christmas/Hanukkah because we simply can't afford it.

Do I regret coming here and giving up any realistic hope of having a good career? Sometimes. I'm really happy about being with my wife, but there are definitely times I resent the move and even her. I know she didn't MAKE me come up here, but what was the other option? Do immigration all over again or break up?

To close this excessively long and wordy post, I'd like to impress upon you the importance he has for his career. Just because he loves you and wants to be with you doesn't mean he won't regret losing his degree. He may not show it or ever tell you, but chances are he WILL resent it. I know I do, but I'd never let my wife know that.

you mention Finger prints? I had my police record check done in Toronto and it was checked through the RCMP data base. No fingerprints were necessary .I have no criminal past and all.

ARGH.

I've been getting the Certified Copy of Registration of Live Birth...which was $50. It's actually a copy of a handwritten document.

Okay, I'm a moron. Fortunately it wasn't RFE'd at NVC. I think I'd better order up the cheaper Birth Certificate.

lggNot TellingCanada2009-12-04 14:21:00
CanadaCouple of questions...
You know what, Wyatt? I think that they've changed something. I got my long form birth certificate last year, before we got married. It was 17 dollars. It's the long form with the security features on it. Both parent's name and place birth. AT that point, we were still able to get the wallet size too. I see know you're not. I think they upped the price for the exact same thing. I think I got in before the change of price. Now they're 27 for what I used.

my long form looks like the new long form...
Pic of B.C.

But I think you are talking about a certified Photo copy right?
B.C. Vital Stats
lggNot TellingCanada2009-12-04 13:29:00
CanadaCouple of questions...
Yep. It was accepted by the NVC as fine. It just has to list your parents names and places of birth on it. We never got an RFE for it and I can't think of any other one we would need. The only options when ordering it from BC was the short form or the long form. IT's full of security features too, like holograms and stuff like that. LIke money.
I can't imagine they'd want any other as on my form my B.C. requirement is listed as O=received and accepted as meeting post requirements.
Do let me know if you find anything else though...

QUOTE (Wyatt's Torch @ Dec 4 2009, 11:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Wait...$17 for your birth certificate from B.C.?

I THINK you need to get the $50 one...the certified copy of the original...the one with your parents names, addresses etc. on it. That's the one I've been ordering (two, at this point). I'm not sure if the $17 one is the correct one.

I'd double check on that!

CanadaCouple of questions...
Aww... shoosh, monkey!
Better to be more prepared than not enough!

ANd yes, if anyone else who's done the CR1 interview can say whether or not they asked for yet another round of originals. Most of the stuff I've read has been, they asked us a few questions but never asked to see anything else. I'll come prepared regardless but it'd be nice to know anyway.

its' not about the money or not wanting to, it's more about being a little petrified about carrying all those important documents around in duplicate and triplicate if that makes any sense...

yeah, I have a binder that I created for the interview. It has a replica of everything from 1-130 on, all of our approval notices and I'll bring a couple of copies of this new letter of appointment to interview, photos of us and our wedding, heaploads of ticket stubs, the ones with the border stamp on them mainly, letters from his family addressed to us. I guess the only thing I'd be needing would be another copy of my long form birth certificate. I already have an original police cert and our wedding certificate so. I guess maybe I'll just get it it's only like 17 dollars and British Columbia was very quick about getting it to me. may as well, just to be safe...

So, Trailmix, you'd think it would be okay to NOT bring more photos? ANd also, if I may ask, do you think I should bring the originals of the documents that they already have the originals of? I will bring an exact duplicate of everything that we ever sent but I really don't wanna have to bring another round of original documents.

What did all the other CR1s do? I have another police cert already and another marriage cert but I don't want to have to carry so many originals of important stuff around.

I think the La Tour Centreville is the consensus pick, since it IS the closest, being only about a block away.

I remember reading that the envelope is NOT on the list. That's because I believe if you DON'T bring one, they'll still send your stuff...but in slow snail mail manner. I might be wrong about that, but it's my working assumption.

As for the other questions...other folks will have to answer. smile.gif

CanadaCouple of questions...
What hotel would you recommend that's the CLOSEST to the consulate and the address of said consulate is 1155, rue Saint-Alexandre, Montreal, QC, right?

And, I was looking at the list they sent me of stuff to bring. EVerything listed is mainly received and accepted or received and accepted as meeting post requirements (does this mean something that I should be concerned about?)

They don't list the infamous envelope anywhere? The one in which they return your passport -- is this something that's listed elsewhere?
and they also list photographs (the passport ones I assume) as Y= required document has been received and accepted -- does this mean that I don't have to bring them again?

I am not wanting to gather all originals again for this as they have them and have them listed as such. I do have a copy of everything we sent in, verbatim.
Do you think this will suffice? What did you all do?

Thanks so much,
LGG

Hey there... that sounds good so far. I always bring copies of my latest bills showing my address, a copy of my latest bank statements showing my Canadian address and a copy of my NOA2, the approval for our 1-130 as it shows that we're doing things the legal way.

Even if you have the NOA1, I would bring that too -- just shows good intent. I usually bring every bit of ties to Canada that I can think of because you just never know.
