When did you find out about the rape? After it happened?

I don't want to sound mean here; but this question kind of made me giggle. Was she supposed to call him before or during?

You do need your vaccination records for your K-1. Or at least I did.

Yes, I agree with this statement. Andre had to prove his at medical before his K-1 was approved.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiongoing to interview and lacking some requirements
I know of a few people who needed something for the Jamaican embassy.....birth paper, non-impediment form, etc. They got a blue slip of paper and a rescheduled date. Some were approved and just had to bring said paper back. Some had to reinterview. It all depends on what you are missing and the embassy, I suppose.

I had made a copy of every single thing I had originally submitted with the K-1 form. I bound it in a tidy little package for Andre to take with him, just in case they asked. They didn't.

Hi, Gang!!

I was just curious if there was any VisaJourney folks (who are U.S. citizens) who have attended their fiancée's K-1 interview...

If so, how'd that go?

Thanks!

Nope. I wanted to be there to bring him back with me, so I skipped the interview. He did just fine.

It's okay. We've all either been there or are there now. We share your pain.

Talking it out with those of us who understand really does help you keep your sanity.

Keep the faith. As they say in Jamaica, soon come!!!!

Jesse, I sent a complete copy of everything I sent in along the way....all the way to the embassy....for Andre to take to his embassy interview. I have always had the originals here in a box. This was just in case they ever asked for anything. They never even glanced at any of it at the embassy.

Same for AOS. We were approved without an interview.

Wow that is crazy!
I guess this shows that people should never believe that a lawyer will do everything perfect (even if it is supposed to be his job)... that's crazy. It's good that he is willing to pay you back.

I hope you manage to put everything back in order in your case and that you will be together soon. Hang in there!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiancee comming to USA to get married, what next
Coming to the USA on a visitor visa in order to get married is considered like fraud by the US government.
You can either apply for a fiance visa (K-1), so she can come to the USA and you get married there, or you go to her country to marry her and then apply for a spouse visa (K-3).
Everything is explained in the guides here: http://www.visajourn...amp;page=guides

If you want to be able to work right away, do not file for the K-3. File the I-130 for the IR-1 visa and follow through with it to completion. You won't have to do the adjustment of status and will be work authorized on the day you arrive. All you will need is a SSN.

Yeah, the IR-1 visa seems to be the most sense, but exactly how long did you stay after the initial 90 days? Because you are technically out of status and could be subject to penalty for overstay.

This overstay is 'excused' for immediate relatives, although filing outside of the US might require a waiver.

Thanks for correcting my comment, I was also thinking the CR1 but then IR-1 popped in my mind. It is good that they excuse the overstay. I guess that makes sense because many VJers have mentioned not adjusting status for a while, usually due to the financial issues of the AOS fee.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBringing Chinese customs into your relationship
I was reading this little article about the Chinese new year, which happens to be our Valentines day, and was curious how my fellow VJers with Chinese spouses/fiance(e)s deal with or plan to deal with customs.

http://english.cqnew...222_3895583.htm

What resources or ideas do you have for helping to make sure that these cultural aspects are maintained? I am especially thinking of how this would impact long term with the possibility of having a child together in the future and ensuring that they know and are exposed to both sides of their parent's cultures. Thanks for any input! good.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPrevious K-1 causing problems?
Is it possible that their K3 was denied for domicile reasons or affidavit of support? You mentioned that you feel you are not getting the full picture from him, if this is the case then he at least needs to understand that complete transparency is the only way to obtain a visa out of China. The only other alternative involves lying and that will, in most cases, be rooted at during some point of the process. All of the paperwork can be perfect, but the couple has to represent as a couple (e.g. the comment that she looks like a former prostitute; maybe there are image issues that raised red flags). I wish your father well, keep us informed.

Africa: Sub-SaharanMy African Man's Birthday...
Well, we aren't exactly in the African family; but since my husband also has a June birthday, I'm piping in. His is the 29th, which is also our anniversary.....2 years this time.

My husband also did not celebrate much for his birthday in Jamaica. For his first US birthday, we got married. After all the hoopla, we had left over guests in the yard for alcohol, dancing, and fireworks.

Last year, we were in Washington, D.C. for a business meeting of mine. We toured and had a special dinner.

This year, I already know I have to work. I am really trying to brainstorm something nice this year. Just not sure what yet. And, yes, limited budget is in my vocabularly every day.

I believe anything special you do where you specifically say this is for your birthday makes the day important. It doesnt' have to be over the top to be appreciated.

Interesting, Tess. I find the exact same things true about Jamaica. The scams are relatively the same. The rumors are the same. The intentions seem to be the same.

If you are lucky enough to find a good man, proceed with caution; but do not let this kind of thing completely discourage you.

Good advice girls. Sadly, we live and we learn.

The only thing I want to say is the statement about scammers always taking, taking, taking........not necessarily true. Sometimes early on, they give, give, give to reel you in. It might not be something expensive materially. Sometimes it's small gifts. Usually just lots and lots of sweet words. Later is when they start asking for things. And, those sweet words and small gifts come like prizes for what you can give them. The true scammer knows how to turn women into on of Pavlov's dogs.

QUOTE (Asante Maroon @ Jun 25 2008, 04:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
How many black Americans are willing to go to an African country and marry an African man? Yes there are some but not many at all.

There is still a stigma in the US about Africans and Africa in general from a good majority of the black community. Most black Americans won't even acknowledge that their roots are in Africa, but now when they see you with your husband, they want to hate. I remember so many ignorant statements made by black Americans about foreign black men.

This situation is deeper than you know and it is a sticky subject.

Let the haters hate and if they have a problem with you and your husband, tell them to visit the lands from which thier ancestors sprung and they too can find plenty of good black men. You have not taken the last good black man in the world. Don't let anyone steel your joy. How may of those haters would have gone through the process you have and deal with the cultural differences and financial strain???

Yes, I am slightly pissed by their ignorance. You went through a lot in your life and you should be happy. When they give you dirty looks, you give them the sweetest smile because they don't know what you know!

P.S. My statement comes from personal experiences and not made to offend anyone. God knows its the truth.

I just read this and said "wow". Thank you for this very well said reply.

I can say that I have experienced this as well...but from both sides. What I have found, though, is more interested glances then outright scowls. You will probably experience a whole lot more of that before it gets better.

I ignore the fools.

Those that do that kind of thing are just ignorant and self-absorbed. It's not an across the board thing and is unfair to categorize as such.

cost thoudands to ship him back whistling.gif I can just picture the whole fiasco in my mind ohmy.gif

He said if I die before he does he will bury me there too wacko.gif

I said I don't care just cremate me and I know my soul goes to God.........after explaining cremation he thought that is just
horrible to do that.

LL, S said Liberians are also very adament to be buried in their homeland.........wanna go with me ? smile.gif

My Jamaican husband said the same thing. I told him the only way that would happen is if he was cremated. He balked at that. I just said, whatever....you'll be dead anyhow.

I already paid for my cremation. He can toss me wherever he likes. I don't care anymore. I used to want it to be at 2nd base in the Old Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO. When they tore that down, my reasons left me.
