K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFailed to find a Co-sponsor?!
QUOTE (kid brooklyn @ Oct 8 2008, 10:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If a person can't find a co-sponsor, I guess they won't receive a visa. It's better than them coming here and being a burden on our struggling economy.

If it were only that easy. 125% doesn't necessarily mean you're all set in the debt to income ratio. Sometimes I think the 125% is really a joke.

We have all played the waiting game. And, we've all played it while visiting them. It never gets any easier. You just have to distract yourself enough not to stress over the time every minute of the day.

Hang in there. Your time is coming.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Interview
QUOTE (andria @ Dec 1 2009, 04:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everyone, I am Andria and I just joined visa journey. I really need some support. My husband is filing for me to come to the US to live with him and it seems as if the papers will reach the Jamaican embassy soon. I am so anxious and nervous about this visa interview. First of all I need to know all the documents that you think they will need and as much questions you know, that you think, they will ask me. I also have a major problem my mom did not know her correct name until she was 31 years old by that time all her kids were already born and her name that she knew growing up is on all our birth certificates. I want to know how much of a problem this is and how much of a negative impact this will have on the visa interview? I am awaiting your response. Thank you

If it were me, I would write it like this:

Example: Jane Doe - she used when her name was really Jane Don't - Jane (Doe) Don't.

If it were Jane Doe - she used when her name was really June Don't - Jane (June Don't) Doe.

And, I'd notate and explain.

It's really not that big of a deal. Jamaican's are famous for using nicknames.

As far as the paperwork looking like it's getting to the embassy soon............well, soon come is relative in JA. Be prepared to be patient is my best advice.

Come on over to the Yardie thread.

Good luck to you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Examination

Hello....just a quick question about Medical Examinations. I have received packet 3 for my K1 Fiance visa and I called to make an appointment for my medical examination, but the doctors office said that I could not make an appointment until I received an interview letter. Is this true?? The checklist said that I have to send back from packet 3 says "arrange a medical examination" and this is confusing me too...lol. Do I check that box and send it in? I tried to contact the consular office about this and I had no response. If anyone could let me know that would be great!

We had to have an appointment set before Jomo could make his appointment.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionwhy do you want to go to the US question at Interviews

I keep seeing that at most interviews the question "why do you want to go to the US?" is asked... I know alot of you are seperated from your significant others so Im sure the answer is to be with your fiance/to get married or be with your husband/wife to start a life together as a married couple..

reason I ask is (making a short story long)

because my husband and I have been married 5 years, and Ive lived with him here in Canada the entire time.. when I moved here my husbands youngest son was still in high school and his oldest son and his girlfriend were expecting a baby...I have no kids so it was easier for me to come to Canada... but we had also talked about one day moving to the US... his sons are now grown and doing their own things...his oldest just came back from a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan and is getting married in September...his youngest has a girlfriend and goes back and forth to London every weekend to see her and so we hardly ever see him... my husband isnt that close to his extended family, and they rarely get together other than funerals and the odd holiday.. I on the other hand come from an extremely close family and a very tight circle of friends...the last 5 years have been very hard for me being away...Ive lost 3 family members since Ive lived here and had a niece and nephew born...my oldest niece is graduating from school and I will miss it.. I am very lucky that my husband loves my family and loves my home (Las Vegas), he loves waking up in the mornings and seeing the mountains out the window..

when asked why he wants to go to the US, is to be with my wifes family, to learn more about where my wife comes from, to start a new chapter in our lives... a "good enough" answer

if youre still reading thanks for listening to me ramble on and on...LOL

Kimmbo

Yes. Just be honest. There are no right or wrong answers.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioni-134

I was looking at the i-134 Affidavit of Support form and noticed that one question asks the USC to write their job... but there's only space for one job - what should you do if you have 2 jobs?

I just wrote really small and filled in both. I put an asterisk for my part-time and explained that it was part-time. I enclosed a letter from BOTH employers, plus paystubs from both.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIrrational Paranoia Re Interview

As the date of my interview approaches ever nearer the same tense concern is coming back to me that i had for the medical ( I really should know better huh!).

Friday 13th April - what a start!.....anyways....there are a multitude of possible hitches waking me up in my sleep!

When my fiance filled the 129f - the question about how he met me was filled in as " met whilst on holiday in Devon" ...which was when we first met in person but only after spending several months chatting via yahoo games then exchanging email address then phone numbers - my concern is when i get asked the how did you meet question i feel my response should be " we met in person when we both took holiday after 7 months of email, phone conversation and internet contact " would this seem too concocted

My fiance says if they question the details tell them he interpreted the form as asking for details of the meeting face to face - he beleive it really wont be a problem

Anyone come up against any real issues or am i being a masochist here?

Just be as honest as possible...........say what you want to say.......

The face to face meeting is probably what they are mostly looking for.....but, I would say exactly what you said. It rings of the truth and that is DEFINATELY what they are looking for.

Stop stressing. It really isn't as bad as you are imagining it to be.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNew Letter of Intent

Hi everyone, I think this is my first time posting, even though I've been reading the posts to this thread for about 2 months. I feel comfortable with the whole process thanks to reading about so many other members' first-hand experiences. I did just read a post on another thread that has me a little worried, though. My question is: "Does my fiancee need a new letter of intent from me for the interview"?

I thought the answer was "no", and therefore didn't send her a new one. If anyone could give me a little reassurance it would be appreciated. Thanks.

We did not have a new letter of intent and no one asked for it. Isn't it really proof enough, after you file all the paperwork and accumulate all the crappola that you need for it, that the intent is still there? Hoop....jump.....hoop.....jump.....hoop....jump..........yah, I think they still want to go through with this!!!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBirth Certificate missing name
Andre's birth certificate does not have his father's name on it. It was not an issue.

However, I am thinking you may want to work on getting some secondary proof on a birth certificate missing the name. It might be as simple as just applying for a copy. Might have just been a clerical error.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCondescending Effers

Can I ask, what exactly happened at the doctors that was really "invasive" ? I haven't heard of one medical where something more than a quick normal check-over happens (which includes a breast examination) / X-ray and blood test happens... Surely she wasn't submitted to an internal examination?! =/

I'm thinking a lot of your problems are due to the country you are speaking of and not just the embassy officials. Andre came from Jamaica. He had the same issues getting to the embassy....a 4-5 hour taxi ride to get there, the lines, the rudeness, the never being able to get them on the phone or answers via e-mail in a timely fashion,.....we've seen it all.

And, as far as his exam went, same thing. He had to strip naked, no covering of any kind, and they went over him with a fine tooth comb.

I am currently getting a letter from my job with the following:

Statement of your employer on business stationery, showing:
date and nature of employment, salary paid andwhether position is temporary or permanent
I ran into a question as my empolyer is asking who it should be addressed to and I wasn't sure if I should have it say "to whom it may concern" or should I address it to:
"Consular/office Immigration affairs,Diplomatic Enclave, Ramna 5 U.S. Embassy Islamabad, pakistan"

-Khurram

I had my two made out to whom it may concern.

It's the info. that is important in this case anyhow.

Hey all Ok question I am about to send the DS156 back to the London Consulate, that is a space for a picture to be attached . So my question is do I

A) Attached a photo before I send it to the concsulate, and send the form with the picture attached.

B) Send the form without a photo attached, and I guess take them with me when I go to the consulate.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow does my fiance request a police record from the UK?
Since the police check is good for 12 months after you get it, you might as well get it now. I'm not sure where in the process you are -I guess I should have checked your timeline before I hit reply!!- but if you are close to getting your NOA2 you might as well go ahead and apply. If you aren't close to getting the NOA2 it might be better to just wait a while. In the UK the police check is 'guaranteed' in 40 days...so it's no harm in waiting.

We applied for his the day after we got our NOA2 and we got in about 22 days... Our interview is May 17 so we had PLENTY of time!
Is it correct to assume that one of you is still in the UK? In Sarah's case, she is in the US and he is in Jamaica now. Wonder if that will slow things down any?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDuplicate copy of Marriage Certificate

Hi all,

With the interview coming up on June 12th, I thought I'd double check I had all of the documents needed....everything seems to be in place...EXCEPT for the marriage certificate! We've been tearing the house apart trying to find it, but have had no luck yet. I have ordered a duplicate copy from the Registrar's office, which should arrive in the next few days - I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if a duplicate copy would be acceptable?

Thanks for any help!

Alex.

A certified copy from any issuing agency is always acceptable.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow to demonstrate bonafide Fiancee relationship?

I cam across one of Yodrak's posts in another thread, which I have excerpted below:

Pictures of a wedding ceremony prove that a marriage exists (already proved by the marriage certificate), they do not prove that the marriage is bonafide.

Nor do phone calls prove that a marriage is bonafide - they only show that someone may be willing to talk a lot if it will help get them into the USA.

Yodrak makes a good point which I really didn't think about before. So now I am getting a bit worried to make sure we can demonstrate to the foreign embassy that we do indeed have a bona fide K-1 relationship.

I already have pictures, phone calls, emails, text messages, receipts of gifts exchanged; but we can't plan any wedding dates until her visa is approved; so what can I show? A list of wedding venues we have selected so far? Pictures of the wedding type preparations such as wedding dresses, etc?

What do you guys think? Maybe I am getting too worried? I am very early in the process (don't even have a NOA2 yet) so if there is anything we can do that will make it easier for the foreign embassy to determine our relationship is bona fide; I want to make sure we do it.

I think with everything you mentioned you already have, you will be fine.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFinancial Support has my head a spinning!
If someone else is paying child support, that continues even into the next marriage, unless it was worked out in some court documents that it ends when she marries again. I know this from experience.

The number of people living in the household would have to be explained on all documents. Child support can be included in any financial calculations.

The financial support forms are on the petitioner. What you make/made from the sale of a house is not taken into account unless you were to, say, sell the house early, and put that money into her bank account before she filed the paperwork.

I think the sister may need to co-sponsor as well.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionINTERVIEWS IN JAMAICA

Thanks for the replies so far.

I actually stopped calling the embassy in Jamaica long distance and have been calling the DOS twice a week. They tell me the same thing. I just don't know what else to do.

Is there someone else I can talk to who can tell me why it's taking so long?

Why did you give up calling them? Because of the cost or the fact that they never answer the phones so you can't ge through.

Try today from 1:30-3:30 pm (Central Time---same as JA time). You do know they only answer the phones at certain times of the day right? Frustrating.....believe me, I do know.

Come on the most recent Yardies.........thread (under Carribean on this site. There is lots to learn there on this.

It just seems like an awful long time. You did say January, right?

Like I said, they seem to be limiting the interview times available now. They put everyone is some sort of waiting que and once the dates are full, they hold off scheduling for the next availables for a while. Pretty sure I did read someone say the August is full up now.

I'm sorry. When Andre went through this last year it seemed to be so much easier and straightforward for us. We got out interview date immediately and it was just under a month's time of waiting for it. I feel for all of you going through now. My prayers are with you.

I filed the for the K3 visa for my husband. We'd been married over 2 years when I applied. Everything went pretty smooth on their end...if anything took long it was because of our mistake. Anyhoo the NVC sent the package to the embassy in Jamaica at the end of January.

They have not assigned a date for the interview yet. Is anyone else in this situation with them? Looking at the signatures most people have an interview assigned within 2 months.

I'm just so frustrated now and I need some encouragement.

Lately, it seems to be about 2 months time. Last I heard, they had given out all August dates and were looking at September.

If it has been since January, I would definately call them A LOT until I had some answers.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDivorce Decrees

My attorney in BANGKOK just called TWO weeks before my SO's interview and said the U.S. Embassy requires the original decrees of my divorces; not copies. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this true? The VJ guidelines state copies of the decrees.

Has anyone's SO had their interview yet that the interviewer has required originals? Can anyone point me to USCIS or DHS webpage that states these requirements? Or is it up to the embassy to what they want?

Thanks,

reach449

No, not originals.....but certified copies that come directly from the issuing agency. They do need that offical stamp thing on them from the issuing agency. That's all we needed.

Well, in their defense, I could see where they might assume these things. Your timeline is a little on the limited side and there was a strange man present during the visit. However, I do agree they should've asked for some sort of identification and I find it hard to believe they didn't with satisfactory conclusions.

I think an experienced immigration attorney will be your best bet now.

I wish you luck.

From everything I've read on VJ, all support must come from the United States.

Correct, K-Visas do not need vaccinations before getting the visa. They will need vaccinations later when adjusting status.

This wasn't true for Andre.

They did want to see his vaccination record and they did give him a few he was lacking at medical.

Our AOS was just mailing in the paperwork. For that, all I did was send a copy of his shot records. No interview was necessary for us.

Dave,

The $64,000 question you still haven't answered is, "Where and with whom is the child going to live?"

I'm trying to get a handle on just what immigration problems you'll be dealing with. Right now, you've not taken any action that can result in the child immigrating with its mother.

The child will stay with the parents of the guy in the Philppines ( she thought was a freind) he is in korea now back working and will support the child and hopefully take the child at a later time.

My problem with this is that it is also her child. Even if she wants no physical responsibility (which I don't blame her one bit), what kind of ramifications will follow her to the US? I forsee him demanding support in the future.

I would immediately go to the authorities and report the rape so you have a record of it. Then, I would consult a lawyer to whip up some kind of legal document stating the facts and exactly what is happening with the child and future issues that may arise. Then, yes, I agree she should tell the truth at the medical and at the embassy.

I am very sorry for you. I hope it all works out for you both.
