US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs it a sign of approval or denial?

Put in a "search" for "second K1 interview" at the top of the thread and read the replies. My fiancé was asked to bring more evidence of a bonafide relationship and I think they mean they want me to attend so I am doing just that and bringing more pictures, a timeline of the progression of our relationship, more facebook chats, letters to each other when we were teenagers, etc.

Don't worry so much. Everything will be fine. Good Luck and best wishes.dancin5hr.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionRequest for More Evidence - K1 Visa Accra

I went through a similar process at the Accra Embassy. Here is a link to my synopsis.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCONFUSED...I GOT THIS EMAIL FROM THE US EMBASSY BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF IT

Thank you for your email inquiry.

We wish to inform you that neither the name of the applicant or the case number shows up in the U.S. Embassy Accra system. This case is awaiting appointment scheduling for the U. S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana.  Unfortunately, we are unable to predict when these cases will be scheduled for an interview.

A word about the process:  Immigrant visa petitions are processed in the order that they are received at the National Visa Center (NVC). The NVC retains the approved petition until the case is ready for adjudication by a consular officer abroad. Petitions may remain at NVC for several months or for many years depending on the visa category and country of birth of the visa applicant, and how quickly the petitioner submits all the required documents fees.  Another factor is the resources available at the designated overseas embassy or consulate.  NVC holds the cases until an interview is available.

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Read all of the NVC?s instructions thoroughly.
  • Submit all requested documents and fees to NVC as quickly as possible
  • When you do have an interview scheduled, read our instructions.
  • Make sure you bring all the required documents to you interview.

For more information about the process, please reference our Frequently Asked Questions.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

U.S. Embassy Accra

Consular Section

Hi Curry and Cherry,

Like others said before, this is a canned response email from the Embassy since they don't yet have your info in their system. I got this twice before a final email with a date for my then fiance to pick up the packet and the interview date. Best Wishes and Good Luck!

Is it possible for the petitioner to schedule an Infopass at the Local Office to speak to a live person to see if they can track the case? Just a thought.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionghana consulate interview. is this normal??

What types of questions were you asked? Is this fiance or marriage visa?

I have researched the Ghana interview thread and came up with a list of possible questions at the K1 interview so here goes:

How did you meet?
Where does petitioner work?
What does petitioner do for a living?
When did petitioner first come to the US?
What floor does petitioner work on?
What is petitioner?s address?

When did the man propose?

When do you plan to get married?
How many hours does petitioner work?
How many days does petitioner work?
How many times has petitioner come to Ghana?
How long did petitioner stay (each visit)?

What are the names of petitioner?s siblings, parents?

Have you met petitioner?s children/parents?

What are the names of petitioner?s children and how old are they?

What are the names of petitioner?s pets?

(If previously married)

What was petitioner?s husband/wife?s name?

How long were they married?

If you previously applied for a B2 visa for the same person you are going to be asked why you did so and were you planning of getting married on the B2 visa?

You are also going to be asked to write down your fiance(e)?s name on piece of paper (with no hesitation) so be prepared with spelling, etc.

So sorry to hear this. I went through a similar experience at the same Embassy 3 months ago with my fiance and mine did not end well but I wish you nothing but the best.

Just go back on the date assigned and hand them everything you brought plus anything else you can think of. If you are going with the petitioner please display as much affection as you can and also please hand in evidence to the person that comes through when you are in line so that the CO will have it by the time you get to the window. Best of Luck to you and yours.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHas anyone here refused to get vaccinated
I work in the department of Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis. I know that this topic has really gotten off base from the OP's original post, but I want to clearly illustrate the reason why our Government requires vaccination of incoming immigrants. These bastards know based on CDC statistics that vaccination works. A look at the statistics clearly shows that of the top TEN causes of mortality in the year 1901....FIVE of the causes are related to bacterial or viral infections. The number one cause of death in the year 1901 is Pneumonia (all forms) and influenza. Fast forward to the year 1998 and the top causes are heart disease, Malignant neoplasms, Cerebrovascular diseases, Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and allied conditions, Accidents and adverse effects. The total population's immune systems have not evolved, quite the contrary, we have utilized vaccination methodologies that have prevented the fate of so many in human history. Science is peer reviewed...not faith. Good luck with the waiver....

Oh, as a scientist, I should cite my references:

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionvisa denied
QUOTE (tkgert @ Nov 28 2009, 11:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello to all,, I have been reading on here for over a year. My problem and question is my fiancee petition has been denied and is being sent back to USCIS. And of course the reason is non bona relationship, At her interview that was very short she was given a blue paper, this stated that they wanted a statement from me as to how we met, when we met, where we met, etc, etc. I wrote a letter of statement in full detail to what they had asked for, my mother wrote a letter for her, though they have never met face to face, but have talked many times on the computer. My dear had prepared very well for this and took much information to the interview with her. On her chat records was questioned why I would talk with her in non native english,, She is chinese and I speak to her in very short sentences and more of the way she speaks and this really helps her to understand. To me this was the red flag that the VO could not understand and the reason this was denied. This has broken her heart and mine and now I am just trying to figure all this out. I am going to do my best to have this case sent back to Guangzhou and am really looking for some input and encouragement. Anyone that can help me , I am new here and just asking for a little advice, thanks

First of all, welcome to VJ! Please take time and fill in your timeline when you are calm. The more experienced guys on here will chime in, but the blue slip request doesn't mean an out right denial (pushbrk?) they are asking for additional information to determine your relationship.

I am curious from a person standpoint, what is her level of english fluency, and do you find it easy to communicate. I only ask, because I would have had a hard time to develop a relationship with my fiancee if she was not already very fluent in english. I am not judging your relationship, I am confident that you are in love, just asking for my personal interest. Good luck, I wish you best.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Questions - Can you request it in Chinese?
Roger,
I really, really hope that you two are able to get over this hurdle..all of us are pulling for you.

This part is more of my personal soap-box and maybe useful advice for the other current chinese petitioners:
I do think that this issue brings up a good point about evidence of the actual relationship. What I have found with Yi and I is that during the first several month when our relationship changed from friends to "together" we wrote at least a couple real letters each month along with the chat/email records. As we migrated to communicating more on skype, I realized that we were starting to turn our paper trail into a trickle. So, I insisted that we make it our job to sit down and write emails and physical letters/cards to each other. We would pick topics and write meaningful emails about our lives, our plans, our hopes and dreasms. I take the letters I receive from Yi along with envelope and scan them into PDFs and email them back to her...this way she has my originals and her copies that she sent to me. It is so easy to become comfortable and forget to do these things. But this process is costly, emotionally and financially, and has to be carefully planned. I think for someone like Roger it would even be useful to write letters while in China. What is wrong with writing to your love even if they live with you? Nothing in my mind. I hope that this provides some perspective and maybe helps out some of you. Pictures are great, but they are secondary evidence...seems odd, but the correspondence and communication is the big hurdle right now at GUZ. Good luck all. good.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Questions - Can you request it in Chinese?
QUOTE (rogerj @ Nov 30 2009, 03:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hui and I are in Guangzhou now, and I attended the "citizens hour" today. I had several questions and corrections to note for our petition. One specific area of concern was when I requested she be interviewed in Chinese. The lady there said "they all are interviewed in Chinese, this is China (duh)...". Then she continued to explain to me that if Hui could not speak English (and my Chinese is limited), that this would (note the word "would", not could) be a big problem during the interview. I tried to explain modern technology (online translation, hand held devices) but was "dismissed" saying these were not available at all times...

Now I have a question on this subject, and I never want to assume... Why is differing languages "questioned"? Is it because they question the legitimacy of the relationship?

Roger & Hui

Based on what I have read from other's posts, it can be seen as an issue to the relationship. In their mind if you are not able to communicate in a common language, how can you have a legitimate relationship(?). I think the issue is that the interviewer is looking for any red flag that could indicate fraud or other issues. I am sure that your relationship is real, but you are being examined by someone who has had limited exposure to your file and then must make an objective decision. My fiancee speaks great English, but I still worry about the interviewer asking a question in an odd way that would even be confusing to a native speaker. I hate that a person that I have never met is charged with deciding if my relationship is real and whether my fiancee should come to the US. Good luck, please fill us in on the details of your experience..I am very interested in hearing. good.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Questions - Can you request it in Chinese?
My fiancee has not been through GUZ yet, but from what I have read from those who have been, she is allowed to ask for the interview to be conducted in Chinese. However, this may raise a red flag with the VO in terms of how the two of you communicate and how legitimate the relationship is. How is your fiancee's English fluency? Is she just nervous or does she speak little English? Welcome to VJ by the way. good.gif

Hello,

I am just thinking way ahead at the moment and wanted to know if Guangzhou, China allows for both the man and woman to attend the interview jointly? I have seen other people in other countries recommend that both people attend the interview, but they also said that it was country or consulate specific on if they allowed this or not? Has anyone been through the interview process in GZ and had a joint interview? Does anyone also know where i can find a good list of sample questions that they might ask during the interview? Thank you for your time and help.

Chris

We just got NOA2, so we have not been there yet, however all the posters on here have indicated that the interview is strictly for the fiance(e). You can be in the building, but there is some stopping point where she will be on her own after that. Read further down in the China portal, there have been some recent posts about questions asked.

My Fiancee got her K1 from Guangzhou last week. I was there for the interview and will be in China with her and her family until Febuary. The whole thing seemed to go smoothly. I had no RFEs and the interview was only about 5 minutes. The consular officer looked through all our pictures and asked questions about them and about my family. I think we had a pretty good case though seeing as we both speak english and had lived together for awhile and this was my second visit to China. There is no way a reasonable person could say we don't have a relationship. I want to say thanks to everyone who took time to provide information about this difficult process.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionhow long does it take?

Yes, lawyers can notorize papers. They may charge you for it though.

I go to my bank, it is part of our member services. We are allowed free notarization services. You should both check with your bank. If you USC doesn't have this service, she can do a yellow pages search for Notary Services and should be able to find someone. It is just a method for a certified person to validate who you are...any one who want to can become a notary by doing simple training and paying a fee, so there are many in each US city available. Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionhow long does it take?

They usually do automatically send you Packet 3, but sometimes it doesnt go to the right address so it doesnt always reach the person it needs to.
You need to check if your NOA2 expired. I've been told most consulates re-new it automatically, but since you've waited a while with no contact to the consulate, it may have fully expired.
I guess you've got a few questions for the consulate.

This may be redundant, but you can call both Department of State and the Embassy directly (if they allow that). I am not sure how your embassy functions, but with China you have to go through a little hassle and cost to call the embassy and most folks say that they don't always get the best answer directly. You need to determine that the petition file was received and then go from there. Sorry, but it seems that you have been waiting for several months longer than you needed to, but now you can hopefully get some answers. The only concern is as Rhiann stated, your petition may be fully expired now. Call first things tomorrow and get some answers.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionProof of Financial Support at Interview

It is covered in the guides and instructions for one thing here at this site. It is a major topic of discussion in this forum. The I-134 must have an original signature so you will be Fedex'ing that one.

Your fiancee is sent this information because HE is applying for the visa, not you. HE is supposed to let you know what he needs from you. Just as you got the letter of intent and G-325a from him for the petition. All of the forms and instructions for the interview (packet 3) are available here at this website and from the consulate website. You do not need to wait for them to send anything to you. We had all our interview documents finished (except the I-134) before filing the petition. You can also have all the AOS documents prepared now also for when he arrives, get married, make a couple copies and send it off.

In this process, and you have a lot more to go through, everything you need is there for you to read and learn. Do not count on anyone else to "tell you" what to do, that is your job.

Listen to "The Gary"...he is wise and unforgiving :star: Move quickly if the interview is in three weeks...it will be tight, but with faxing and FedEx you can accomplish this before the interview date.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK VISA FEE TO INCREASE TO $350 FROM $131
The official ruling has not been announced, so the $131 is still in effect. The last time the fee was changed ($100 to $131), there was a brief grace-period of about one month before being implemented. So, if you are close to your interview date, then you might get by. However, the ruling has not been put into play yet and it has been almost a month since the expiration of the 60 day comment period.

So has the fee changed yet or is this still in proposal? does anyone know?

Thanks for the support guys! keep it comin!

And let friends and family- particularly those in this process or those that have been or will go through this process know, and what they can do about it- February is the deadline.

I posted my comments to the site also. Maybe I am wrong, but I can not believe that they wouldn't grandfather this in from the date of the notice. Because this is essentially a "bait-and-switch"...we are locked into this process, emotionally and financially, so we will be forced to pay the higher rates if we can not make it through in time. If AOS doubles, I can imagine that it would effectively reduce the number of future petitions filed. These fees will make the typical fiance(e)/spouse immigration process go towards $5K or more. I have gladly invested the time and money into my visa expenses...but they are going to price-out many people. Maybe this is good to limit immigration, but we are all doing this legally. Oh well, more ramen noodles so I can save more!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPapers for Interview
You should look at the website for the embassy in Guangzhou at this point, since you are now more specifically focused on China. http://guangzhou.use...formation2.html This is the link for finding forms, ect. that you will need. Once your girl receives the Packet-3 she will send in the DS-230 Part I, OF-169, and an EMS label which is used to mail her Packet-4. Three things, that is all...everything else goes to the interview. Good luck!! ;)

Reading through the visa guide on the K1 visa, it says to send supporting documents and the I-134 to my fiancee for the interview. I am going to the interview with her, so can I just bring them to China with me? Or does she need these to send to the consulate before the interview?

The K1 is classified as an immigrant-intent visa, you do NOT use the new DS-160 online form. It is for non-immigrant visas. Refer to the GUZ website for the proper forms:

garfield529MaleChina2010-03-09 00:33:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhich Visa Application Forms are Needed?
To the interview she will bring the part II of DS-230 and everything listed in P4. Go to the GUZ website and under Immigrant Visa section you will find the P4 forms. There is an instruction sheet detailing everything you need to bring. A small donkey should be able to carry everything for her  I have hired a llama for my girl...

I'm confused. For a K1 visa application, which visa application form(s) does my fiancee bring to the Interview? The P3 checklist from GUZ only mentioned DS-230, but your forms page lists three:
DS-156K, Non-Immigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application: This is only needed (and should be provided) by the US Embassy issuing the Visa.
DS-156, Non-Immigrant Visa Application: Only needed at once you reach the US Embassy handling the Visa. Should also be provided by them.
DS-230, Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration: Only needed by US Embassy handling the Visa. Should be provided by them also.
Thank you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Interview Countdown
Echoing what Darnell has said, everyone petitioning a Chinese partner should be aware and communicate clearly to your other-half to be cautious about scammers. There are places that "claim" to be able to produce translations, but they must be certified notarial translations. The proper place can do all three needed at once. This service is not "cheap" so if some place is only charging a couple hundred RMB, then you should be suspicious. We spent around 2000RMB for the notarial office in Chongqing to process these documents.

Birth Certificate and Police Certificate. You can get it at your local municipal or provincial notary office. (Gong Zheng Chu - ???) These documents have to be translated to English. They can do the translation in the notary office.

In regards to this question, the same ??? where she gets her notary documents they will also provide her "singleness certificate." These documents have to be acquired where her hukou is registered...so if she has been living in Shanghai, but her hukou is in Chongqing..she has to take a trip home.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCrime in GUZ
Yeah, I think as a westerner you are going to be an obvious target and it is quite common for people to not get involved. Not getting involved has a lot to do with some recent cases where people were falsely blamed and sentenced for being a "good Samaritan." This has created a much more widespread attitude of detachment when people see bad things happening...of course they will watch. I had two guys following me and my wife in Chongqing and I noticed this when I deliberately changed course along the streets a few times. I waited for a good opportunity and then made a direct loop onto them, at which point they turned around and went the other way. I guess they wanted a good chance but lost the advantage and bugged out. The only problem is that as an American, you really don't want to cause trouble, just avoid it, because you are a FOREIGNER and held to the laws of China while you are there. Don't wear anything flashy and carry your cash in an inconvenient place and you should have no troubles. It also helps if you have the size and attitude advantage. :innocent: Good luck!

From the Chinese point, I honestly don't blame the criminals. They know that if you have the money to come to China then you have more somewhere and you are also a foreigner who is there with "their" women. It is a silly way to think, but you see it here in the states as well.
