CanadaWhere's that super-secret fast way?
QUOTE (Cafemusique @ Sep 18 2008, 10:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
A rough day today. My beloved is having a rough time medically and I feel so helpless being stuck up here when I wish I could be there to do stuff as simple as get something for her from the other end of the house, so she didn't have to get up for it.

Frustrating, because the divorce process has dragged on, so we still haven't been able to file for our K-1 yet. (I'm thinking that will happen by the end of October.) And I'm wishing there was a quicker, legal way to be together. (A guy can dream, can't he?)

I'm tired of being unable to help. And I'm tired of waiting. I miss her and I'm tired of being apart. The process looked so simple at the beginning. Just time. And here we are. I know it'll be worth it, but I'm tired of waiting.

I'd like to just push the clock ahead by a few months. Anybody got a time machine I could borrow?

It will be so worth the wait. Just hang in there. Hugs to you.

CanadaWatch your bank closely.
QUOTE (bradcanuck @ Sep 24 2008, 10:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Banks are falling everywhere. If they aren't falling, they are trying to solidify.
For example Bank of America posted a bunch of charges to my account without going in pending mode (as they have done for YEARS) and my account overdrafted HARD for a bunch of $5 payments (itunes etc). Normally I would understand, but these payments PEND first and I have time to transfer $ in to even them out. This time, they just posted without warning.

I called in and they basically said too bad, go bank elsewhere or watch your account closer (I have OCD, I watch it like a hawk)

I have never seen this before - but it's a couple hundred bucks I don't need to lose. Be on top of things - the sky is falling.

Unusual. Today, mine is saying pending just like it always does.

Now that we are together, we realized what we have ahead of us. The little things seem to become harder as we realize what needs to be
done, but in the right order. Correct me on this but I think I have this right so far...

Apply for:
Marriage license first (can't do much without it)
SSN before marriage (can change name after ceremony)
Driver's license before marriage (can change name after ceremony, only after obtaining SSN)

Is that right? She has her own bank account and I'm working on cell phone plan, but so far I think that is where we are at so far.

In Missouri, you don't need the SSN or DL to get married.

You also do not need all that stuff for AOS of a K-1. It's not necessary to adjust.

Do it sooner rather than later. Methinks there will be another delay in processing passports when the travelling by land and sea requirements formally go through June 1, 2009 (you will no longer be able to use just photo ID to cross).

Oh, shoot.....I forgot it's a little more lax going north. Sorry. Then, I suppose it doesn't matter where. But, I do agree with the sooner rather then later. You never know what complications you may encounter.

You HAVE to mail the passport in to get it renewed. They will send it back with the new one, and have punched a hole in the middle of the old one or something like that to show it's no longer valid.

So, if she is staying in Toronto for a while, that would be fine to renew it there. Otherwise, you will definately want to do it from the US.

It could take weeks to get it back. Up to a few months.

QUOTE (*Len* @ Nov 4 2008, 11:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You have to renew it before it expires. Where is not really that important, the when is.
Go to the CIC website www.cic.gc.ca and see what they say about passports. Also check Foreign Affairs Canada.
Google is indeed your friend.

Yes, WHERE is cause she will be without while waiting.

We just had this issue come up with my husband's Jamaican passport. I googled renewing Jamaican passport in the US and it sent me to the right place. I downloaded the form and the instructions, mailed it off to the DC embassy, and am now waiting for it to come back.

Just be careful where you mail it....we only had a few choices. And, the pictures are a little different then what I am used to. We HAD to use Sears or the picture people for the his pictures. It's what the JA embassy requires.

Good luck to you.

It's actually another part-time job that fell in my lap, after I quit my other part-time job cause I was tired of working 7 days a week. (I work a full-time job too.) I have got to say it is the most fun I've ever had at work and I look forward to it. And, free product samples and a 50% discount are the bomb!

Jomo, love the cards!! I just love cardmaking...with so many people emailing these days its nice to give and receive a homemade card...my current project is to make a card for everyone at my work with a personal message about why I will miss them.. its about 25 cards and I only have until the first week in April... wacko.gif

Udella...will add you as a friend on scrapbook.com...great gallery so far!!..if anyone else joins Im Kimmbo33 on there...if you have the time, check out the section called "challenges" they are addicting..LOL.. each month there are different challenges (using a particular color, subject or scrapbooking supply..etc)...some offer prizes some dont.. they are alot of fun...

watch for your Michaels and Joanns flyers they usually offer a 40% coupon good for one regular priced item.. also if you sign up with Joanns online they will email you coupons.. I love coupons!!..LOL

Those are just a few. I've made thousands so far. Each design, I only make up to 16 of. Then, I move on to another. My mother just took 400 to sell at her lodge thing for me. I love making cards.

I started cause I made and mailed Andre one a day while we were seperated by the visa process. It just kind of stuck and I found I've made good money off of them too. It can be very therapeutic.

25 is not so bad. Hang in there........I AM sure they will love them. Here, at work, I made the people I was really close to 20 personalized note cards as Christmas presents. Those I wasn't close to, I made 10. I printed "a note from (add their name here) on cardstock, stamped, cut, whatever on each, stamped an envelope, and tied the whole lot up in a bow. Even the guys....which was a real challenge cause I am a girly card maker. Everyone is still gushing over them.

Very nice pages.

I'm not fond of rub ons. Love vellum. The thing you have to get under control is using what you buy. I went through stages where I had to have everything and anything and I stockpiled it like if the world was nearly wiped out tomorrow, I would have enough scrapbooking/card making supplies to last until repopulation occurred. I have since forced myself to use everything and anything I have. It's been a fun challenge.

Gorgeous pages...both Kimmbo and Jomo's Girl

So ...my first question:

I bought an album for the wedding specifically...thinking it was the type of page where I could slip mine into the clear plastic cover.

However...I must have picked up the wrong one...because these pages are bound in, no clear plastic envelopy cover...they sort of have edge protectors attached. So now...what do I do with the pretty paper I bought...do I cut it down and glue it to these pages? Or could I buy the edge protectors for my existing pages?

I liked the idea of finishing a page then slipping it into the protective sleeve which was already attached to the album spine...maybe I ma just a noobcake, who knows

I'm guessing two words............CREATIVE MEMORIES.......that sounds like one of their albums.

You will have to cut the paper to fit on the page. With the edges on those pagess, if it is indeed CM, I have found that the available scrapping room is not a true 7x7, 8.5 x 11, or 12 x 12. Just trim it down. I've done a handful of CM books and I also like to use just 1/2 sheets of paper on the pages and take advantage of the white already there. You can do a lot of nice things with those books. I'm not overly fond of the pages in there and am not happy with the page protectors; but I do love the covers. They hold up really well.

Also, if it is CM, you need to contact the dealer or the website and buy the page protectors for those pages. IMO, they aren't the best and hold up so/so; but it is better then nothing.

After extensive personal research, my favorite albums are from Close to my Heart. The best page protectors I can find.............Top loading page protectors, strong as anything. And, a true 9x9, 8.5x11, or 12x12 size so the papers slide right in. Love, love, LOVE them!!!!!

I almost exclusively purchase from Close to My Heart, Stampin' Up, my local scrapbook store (For Keeps Sake), Michaels or JoAnn Fabric ( for ribbon) or Archivers.

I have some wedding pictures scraped. If I ever remember to bring them in, I'll scan the pages and post.

CanadaTinned Vegetables Cheaper?
Yes you can definitely find fresh vegetables for good prices here. They seem to be more expensive than in Europe (sorry, I don't know about Canada) but not too bad either. I just think all the food (except junk) is little more expensive here anyway.

One place you may want to check is the "international stores" like Global Foods Market (but I don't think they are all over the US... you'll probably have to find out which stores are in your area). I have noticed that some of the common vegetables are less expensive there than in normal groceries stores. Example, I always buy avocados there because I can get at least 2 for the price I'd pay for one elsewhere.
