ThailandThai Court Order of Sole Custody in liu of Statement of Consent from biological parent
We are waiting for our interview at the embassy; but we have the sole custody papers and the letter the father had to sign at the amphur stating that the other patent has permission to take the child to migrate to the US. These two documents are required according to the us embassy website. Also I heard from a friend that the embassy will also ask for a signed copy of the fathers Thai ID. We got that too just in case.

I know what a lot of you are thinking...why do you need the letter from the father if the mother has sole custody? I asked the same question. After a while, I learned to just accepted as what it is, get them and move on.

ThailandMedical in Bangkok K1

Ok thanks NIng.  She already has a Certificate on child maintenance and it has been stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that states that she has sole parental power of him and may leave the country to go abroad.  She had to get this when she moved to Singapore.  Thats the same thing I told her about the interview but she likes to hear it from someone else from Thailand that has experinced it.  Once again thank you so much for the help

Long,

Careful becuase the sole parental power letter is signed by the Amphur and the permission to travel abroad has to be signed by the biological father. The US embassy wants to see the letter signed by the father. In our case, we submitted the sole parental power letter from the Amphur and also the Father's permission to migrate in a permanent basis to the US. During my email correspodence with the embassy (prior to our interview), they asked us to bring a copy of the father's Thai family book and Thai ID, but they never asked us for them at the interview. If you have any questions, you can contact the embassy via email.

By the way, I recommend you get the child's shot records translated there (it is much easier and cheaper), you will need it when you try to register the child in school in the US.

ThailandAnybody have problems with your family excepting your new foreign spouse?

I'm not getting the warm fuzzies from my family (siblings & parents) with regard to my pending marriage. I have to admit I was caught off guard my that. I "assumed" they would be happy for me regardless who I decided to marry.  Not true.

Sorry to hear that. Having the support of both families makes for a less stress environment during holiday gatherings. I'm sure you are not the only one with this problem. Many couple still make work. After all, you are not going to live with you parents. Good luck!

USCIS Service Centerswhat is going on in vermont?

VSC dumped Dec, JAn, and Feb filers off to Texas Service Center. Now VSC is working on March so they look like they are in normal processing times. Those of us that were transferred  to TSC got SCREWED!!!

That just about explains must of the issues with VSC. Also keep in mind that some case get expedited and others just get lucky.

VietnamBringing money to the US

To make your case simple..
when she comes to the US.. you should come back and then fly back with her.
each carry 10K and don't need to report anything.
or you could carry all of her money in your body.
Custom will not check you.. but they will check her if they feel like they want to.

Or simply declare your money and telling how much she have it on her.

I don't think that will work to my understanding of what is written on the back of the CBP form 6059B. I attached a copy of it and underlined the part I think relates to the issue of the OP.
The way I understand it, if you get your fiancée to carry part of your money, you still need to declare it but I could be wrong and have misread the form. It is just my personal understanding of it.

USCIS Service CentersNo approval!!

Yea that average approval time is usually not even close. I think our average time was supposed to be 50 days and ours was approved in the 95 day mark.
Its hard to plan stuff around the visa process since it is so unpredictable. But it is great that you get to spend time with your fiance soon. If the interview doesn't come up in time for that just think of it as a great time for you and her to hang out in your country and to collect more evidence for the interview (photos!)

Hi MeggyMo,

Thanks for your support,

Well her trip was planned before we decided to get married and file for K1 visa. I just realized while visiting this site and trying to calculate the timeline that the interview may happen when she's here. So if it's not the case it will not be the end of the world, I just felt it could be great if it happened.

I can't wait for her to be here, I think waiting will be more bearable when she's by my side, and maybe I'll be too busy to even think about it :luv:

No problem for the evidence, I'm planning to make more of these.

USCIS Service CentersNo approval!!

The current average approval times (for either service center) is running in the 100+ days range - not 42 and that is just based on VJ member's timeliness.

http://www.visajourn.../stats.php?cfl=

Hi Otto and Karin,

the stat i looked is here. On this we can see it was 100 days a year ago and that it was tending towards 50 lately so that's why I hoped it would be more around 50 than 100 days.

USCIS Service CentersNo approval!!
Yeah, I know it's only been 2 month. But only a few weeks ago it looked like the average time to get approval was around 42 days so I was hoping an approval around this timeline.

That would have been great coz it would have set the interview date around a time when my fiancée (the USC) is visiting me in France.

So I'm starting to letting go the idea that it will be the case but it's a little depressing.

USCIS Service CentersNo approval!!
How come there is no approval at all of K1 petition at CSC for VJ members when there are approved petitions at VSC??

I know VJ members only represent a small fraction of all the petitions that USCIS centers are getting, but still, statistically it seems weird that no one is getting approved this week.
It;s kind of depressing to see nothing is moving at CSC :crying:.

If anyone knows what is (or could be) going on, your imput is welcome.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)letting USCIS know of change in address

I am a greencard holder of 1yr, and have just moved house. I know i need to let the USCIS know of my change of address, can anyone tell me the best way to do that?

thanks

you need to fill an AR-11 form and send it to USCIS. Here is a link to the USCIS page where you can download it

edit : also you're supposed to send it within 10 days of the address change

It was fine..... and went just the way everyone else's went!

I went to the one on Bentinck Street....

The map is very easy to follow, and you get greeted by a friendly receptionist. You then fill in another questionaire, and sign an HIV form.... then you talk to the nurse quickly about your immunizations, and get taken to a smaller waiting room....then you get taken to the xray room, where you strip to your waist (behind curtain) and put on a gown... I am sure the guy will say the same thing to everyone he said to me "you look like you are about to take your first judo lesson"... it sounded very overplayed! After you are dressed again, you sit in the main waiting room.... I waited there for about 45 minutes, whilst a family of 5 went through.... the doctor makes you strip to your undies (behind curtain), put on a robe, and lie on the bed.... quick and simple eye, chest, height and weight, abdomen and throat check, and then your blood sample. Oh, and "just a quick look in here" lift of the undies.

And thats it.... then you pay....

K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsQuestioning the absurd
Hi...we just got her K-1 visa approved....and when I send in the I-129...I only sent in certified copies of my 2 divorces.....I was never asked for a marriage certificate and never provided one. I went through the entire process without any further documents or corrections requested by USCIS or Embassy.
