CanadaEast Coaster going to Mtl for Interview??
Raising a stink -- literally -- grounded a man's intention to fly from Charlottetown to Montreal earlier this month.

A man with foul body odour boarded an Air Jazz plane on Feb. 6, and was left to sit by himself. Penny Walsh, of Charlottetown, was moved to another seat by an Air Canada employee so she would not have to ride alongside the man who was giving off an unpleasant smell.

"People were just mumbling and staring at him," said Ms. Walsh. "The guy next to me said, 'It's brutal'. "

Ms. Walsh, who had a cold and ended up sitting three rows in front of the man, did not get a strong whiff of the offending traveller, but said other passengers were dreading the potentially noxious flight ahead.

Apparently in an effort to clear the air, the man, who Ms. Walsh described as unkempt, was escorted off the plane. Ms. Walsh said the incident delayed the flight by only 15 to 20 minutes.

CanadaWashington State Medical Insurance for Diabetics Experience

hey Number One...i read on here that after 2 weeks, just head to the nearest SSN office and nquire about your SSN Number.... I know it is early for me, but Z and I are gonna head down there and enquire to see if my number is in the system yet....

and does anyone know what SAVE stands for??

SAVE: Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements

After 10-14 days no SSN--simply head to ur local SSN office and ask whats up??? Best to be prepared and fill out the form ahead of time for a new SSN!!

Yes check with his work, usually 1 only has a certain time period to opt in to a spouses health plan afte they are married, then one has to wait for "open" season!

CanadaWhich line do we go into at the airport customs?
When i was a green card holder--if i was by myself, I went thru the regular line. If my USA spouse was with me--I would stick with her and go thru the citizen line. Never had a problem. My usual POE was Toronto.

I would just keep emailing them every few days! Ensure u have ur case # in the subject line. As well the USA citizen could contact his congress person. Squeaky wheel gets the grease!!

CanadaInterview Length
The interview wont be at 0800--its first come first served for the most part!! many Vj'ers line up before 0700 to be the first in!! Many are out prior to 10 am if they are in early, but one wants to leave some time, just in case things dont go as planned--such as computers crashing, etc

CanadaCanadians feeling guilty about taking jobs away from Americans?

The process should start well before they even immigrate, in my opinion. I'm just thinking from what *I* would find to be common sense. If I was moving to, say, Poland for some reason or another, as soon as I knew that I would be doing that, I'd be taking Polish lessons. I'd be doing my best to ensure that I could communicate with my new countrymen. I'd be doing this largely for myself. I know that communication is the key to integration. And I wouldn't dream of taking a job that required frequent dealings with the public until I was certain that my ability to speak Polish was up to snuff.

I'm reminded of the tragic case of Robert Dziekanski from a couple of years ago. He was killed in Vancouver's airport after being tasered repeatedly by the police. He didn't speak a word of English, and had just gotten off the plane from Poland. He was being held in a security area because there was no way of communicating with him. Now, this case is indeed tragic, and I don't think there was any reason for him to be taken down the way he was. That was horrible. However, if he HAD learned a bit of basic English before he had arrived in an English-speaking country, there would have been no situation.

I guess it's an "agree to disagree" issue, but in my view, communication is too important to ignore prior to immigration.

Lot of that was POOR training!! We at the hospital have pts that speak no English and we use AT&T language line! call then up and they provide a translator! I would think the police would have access to that

I remember watching the 1998 Olympic curling events with my family.. that year the women won gold.. our family was totally into watching it...

a few years later Sandra Schmirler died of cancer

Schmirler was awesome! In some ways i was glad that Bernard chocked, leaving the Schmirler the only Cdn womens team to win gold at the Olympics!

CanadaCurling Gold!!!
There was a time many yrs ago when I would get upset when people made ignorant comment about curling being a sport. Then I took a bunch of friends/colleagues out to an open house curling event in Victoria! Seeing them try and gain their balance on the ice and try their best to keep up to the rock was quite amusing! Plus they were quite sore the next day! Their point of view of the game had drastically changed! Its a great sport that can be enjoyed by all levels.

Nope, they dont keep it, nor do they ask for it, BUT do you really want to be the first person denied their visa because some new person at the consulate asks for it? lol. I brought mine, better safe than sorry. I left it at the hotel room, so if they did ask for it, was just a short walk back to get it.

I believe one should have documentation with them regarding a name change as I believe a new "law" went into effect back in the Fall of 2009 regarding that the name on ur plane ticket has to match ur identification!

CanadaFlying

Hey Guys,

Well I'm about to book my first flight back to Toronto since obtaining my PR.

Quick Questions, just to double check.

1) My passport is still in my maiden name, so book it under this name, bring marriage licence to use with PR card on way back in
2) I enter in....any line? Canadian Citizens?

Should I plan on being questioned a lot when I re-enter Canada for the first time?

When I went for my interview, the IO told me to always expect being taken into secondary on my return trips to the US, usually
to "confirm" my PR Card.

Any other suggestions to make it easy and painless, would be awesome!

Thanks Guys!

- Star :star:

I was never questioned all that much going back to Canada! Your just going to show the Canada POE dude ur CANADIAN passport (they could care less about ur greencard)

Coming back into the USA many of a time--never went into secondary! Just showed them my greencard and at that time my Cdn passport

CanadaQuick Review of Montreal IR-1 interview
Congrats!! There have been quite a few that have traveled back and forth with just the stamp in thier passport. Some have crossed and then immediately turned back (just wanted to get the paperwork rolling)

Keep in mind if you checked off the box on the DS 230 to get ur SSN card, it may NOT arrive via that method. Wait 10-14 business days then head to ur local SSN office and inquire about it, if its not in the system, then apply for a new one. if your on the ball, you can download the form from ssn.gov and fil it out before hand to speed up the process. Take ur passport for ID and proof of residency. congrats

Congrats!! you can file the I-751 within (not before) 90 days of the expiration date on your greencard. USCIS will NOT notify you when it is time to submit it.

i was reading one of the OP's other posts and it looks like they have been married since 2001 so I am assuming they got the 10 year green card... but I could be wrong..

lol--my info still stands correct, lol That is if they dont apply for USA citizenship well before that.

No one deserves specialized treatment, if ur from Canada, or if your from Ethiopia! No one should be considered better than another person. Maybe society does do that, but doesn't mean we (or I)have to do that!

I renewed my Cdn passport earlier this year, was a very easy process. Bit more difficult if ya let it expire though

CanadaI'm curious about something...
I wont go into detail, but some of us have no choice in becoming a US citizen, and will leave it at that. At work when my pts find out I'm Cdn they always ask if I wil become a USA citizen--which I already have become. But I poitley tel them I'm 100% cdn, lol and they understand. No different if they were to move to Canada, I would guess many would still consider themselves to be American. Politicians fib all the time, so i dont loose any sleep about in the oath stating about renouncing my Previous (Cdn) citizenships! My Cdn socks that i wore protected me,lol

lawyer are fine, and I know it sounds liek we have the 'hate" onfor them, but we really do not--just want people to save their $$$

Keep in mind, it will be YOU,having to collect the information. The lawyer sure won't be. A lawyer in most of these cases--and yours by the sounds of it, are pricey proof readers, and some of them are not good at that, lol They are very good at making ur pocket book lighter, lol
