Flames, how is the new job?

First week was all just general orientation! Stressed over and over about patient satisfaction, lol Which is a high priority, since it is a "for profit" hospital (not all in the USA are) My 2 shifts earlier this week were on my actual floor, which is a cardiac floor. I just followed my preceptor around the first day, then the tech, secretary, the 2nd day. Tomorrow I should have 1 or 2 or my very own patients, which is cool. Still lots to learn. The days go by soooo fast as one has no time to relax, its go, go go!! The patients we have are 1 step down from the critical care unit, so they are not super ill, but some are close to that line, so still require a lot of care. Normal patient load is 4 or 5 patients. Lot of ones time is taken up with documenting!! If its not documented, it didn't happen!! and when it comes to charging the people for the services that they received, and you did NOT document it, guess what, they don't get charged, lol so the hospital doesn't like that, lol

Its enjoyable, majority of the patients are very nice, but there are always a few that seem to cause one a bit more trouble, lol I'm doing a months of days, then I switch over to Nights!!! Usually much quieter at night, BUT that is def not always the case! people tend to get "crazy"" or code more often at night. Fun Stuff, lol

So I ranted in the Vent thread a week ago that I was having back pain problems, have been to the chiropractor alot in the past week and half, it is slowly getting better! I have never taken a muscle relaxant until today....wow thank goodness for Robaxacet!! I am planning to get a massage in the next week or so and hoping that the Robaxcet works over the next few days....Now if only I could take it on the night shift.... I'd probably end up with my head on the table at work! LOL.

When ever I go back to Canada, always pick up Robaxcet for the inlaws!!!

Start orientation On Monday--A week full of classroom stuff, then its off to my actual place of employment-a telemetry unit! A fair # of my nursing students still have no jobs in the DC area.

I really miss Canadian colourful currency and how you can easily tell the bills apart laughing.gif I went to Rite Aid and used debit, did $20 cash back. The clerk gave me 2 bills which I stuffed in my wallet. When I got home, I realized she gave me 2 twenty dollar bills - I assumed she gave me 2 tens when she handed me back 2 bills. So I drove all the way back to return the $20. Of course, if in Canada, I would have immediately recognized the bright bills and known straight away

Nice Job Jill, way to do the right thing!!! good.gif good.gif

We have a front loading washer and would never buy anything else~ use so much less water, rings the water out better, thus the dryer doesnt have to b eon as long, thus saving $$$$ Plus they are suppose to be more gentle on ur clothes.

Another nice day in saskatoon, put on the 2nd coat of paint onthe deck today, as well go check out the casino, and of course a few Tim Hortons!!

I grew up in PA and was a safe city! Going back there to visit the past few yrs, just don't have that safe feeling! I wont say why, as I may not word my words in away that wont sound offensive--which is not my intentions!! And in reality, i don't put the blame on that ethnicity, more of the blame towards the govt as their solution is just to throw $$$ at the problem and just stick their heads in the sand and not educate anyone!!

Yes I know u from Stoon? I just don't like people pumping my gas, personal preference. I too pumped gas all thru high school and enjoyed it. Know a lot of smart people, smarter than I that did as well. I wasn't putting people down. Wife has a friend who grew up in NJ and when she went to college out of state was the first time ever filling up her car,lol she had no clue. And know she is a brain surgeon, lol All goes well, i'll be in stoon again mid august

Does anybody else remember when full service gas stations were the norm? You would drive into the gas station and don't you dare touch those pumps! The uniformed guy would come out and wash your windows and check your oil while the gas was pumping. Then he would give you points towards your free dishes or free Tide with a free towel inside or whatever. lol

Or you would get a tiger tail for your bike for putting a tiger in your tank at Esso!

Yes, there were very few self-serve when I was last in Saskatoon. Maybe that's changed? Actually your gas was free at FastGas if they didn't ask to check your oil and do your windshield when you pulled up. Gas was never more expensive than self-serve and when it's -40 below, I didn't like pumping my own gas. On our travels in Canada when Gene was up one time we stopped at a service station and I had to go to the potty and left Gene at the car and told him to tell the attendant to "fill it up". He did, and then after the attendant had finished, Gene gave her a toonie as a tip. I paid inside the station and he told me about it afterwards. I laughed. He said she looked at him very weird and hesitated taking it. laughing.gif

What are aof Saskatoonwhere u in? lol Many offer both full and self serve!! I dislike people pumping my gas!!

http://groupon.thepoint.com/ Great deals can be found there! Just got 50% off of admission price to the crime and punishment museum in downtown DC!! Lot of good deals on restaurants, entertainment, amusement parks, etc etc, usually a new deal each day! the idea is that they have to sell so many tickets to the offered event. If they do, the deal is a go!! if they do NOT, deal is cancelled, and of course they dont charge ur credit card!! Not every city is included! Used it last week to get a great deal at a family fun park----2 rounds of mini-golf, 2 buckets of drivign range golf balls and 6 bating cage tokens for $18!! 50% off! They email u the tickets the next day to print off. Tickets do have a limited time to use them, like a few months, so plenty of time! I dot bother to pass it on to friends, lol If its a good enough deal, enough people will sign up! For the crime and punishment 1, 60 had taken the deal and that was enough to make it a go!!

So someone just came and bought our washer and dryer which is good, from an ad I put on craigslist, they aren't going to pick them up until the week after next - so that works perfectly. Basically I said in the ad that they couldn't be picked up until the 27th.

Sold them for $150 - which is a pittance laughing.gif - however we are moving to an apartment in Calgary first and it just seems silly to haul them all the way there so we can store them in the 2nd bedroom!

Also got our TV, internet and Phone set up in Calgary this morning. You know, not one of them asked me for my SIN haha (the only people I had to give ID to was Shaw Cable and they were happy with a DL number).

Another thing I think is funny - of all the people we have told that we are moving back to Canada, not one person has said - why? - oh except the kid that mows our lawn laughing.gif

I mean it's no big mystery, we just prefer Calgary - but I still find it funny.

damn must have missed a lot, had no clue u guys were moving back to calgary, lol I love Calgary, spent some time there in my Army days, and my sister lives there.

I have had very little luck on CL selling stuff. Tried selling our old washer/dryer on there, included pics and only wanted $50 for both of them--they worked fine, but not 1 bite!! said FREE, then flooded, lol same for our old oven--worked great, said $25, no response, then FREE, whammoo flooded again!! Both went to good homes, people that could really use them, so it all worked out.

gl on ur travels back to Calgary!!

I just find it odd because even though we changed health insurance companies , the plan is still the same and what we pay is just a few dollars more a month

and I love the fact that cigna switched over my BCP prescription without me having to call in to do it.... I get my BCP's through mail order.. with United Healthcare it cost me about 20 bucks for a 3 month supply.. mot sure yet how much it costs with Cigna though..

Yep, our health insurance sent us out a letter last yr, stating that if we used a mail order service, it was free or would be at a reduced price!! They are trying to cut out the middleman and make things cheaper!!

getting kind of excited .. we are planning on going to San Diego for a few days in about a month.. I just reserved the hotel... got a good deal for a nice hotel, got mostly good reviews... only thing I don't like about the hotel is that it doesn't have a hot tub tongue.gif but it does have a heated pool, free parking, free breakfast and free wifi... plus all the rooms have fridges and microwaves..oh and a king sized bed ...... all for about 48 bucks a night with AAA good.gif

and we bought tickets for a baseball game...

we plan on going to Sea World, The Zoo, a couple of museums, take a tour of an aircraft carrier etc.. should be fun kicking.gif

the a/c carrier is right by broadway pier, http://www.midway.org/ Hortons plaza--a huge mall is just up the street. While I was in the Navy, we docked at Broadway pier which is right downtown! There is a metro(trolley) stop right there as well http://www.sdmts.com/ Belive that is AMERICAN PLAZA http://www.sdmts.com...ley/Trolley.asp
Lot of cool , small little shops in that area down by the water. Ben and Jerry ice cream too! Gas lamp district is close by as well. And the blue line will take you to Tijuana!!!! Dont go at night, lol
