They are not going to keep any of your evidence. In majority of times, they DO NOT even ask to see any of it!

What about the information we supplied with the I-129F... what (if anything) will we get back? All of it? I hope I don't sound like a real summy asking all these questions. I'm just curious and want to know how to best plan for the "big day" once it somes... then again, errr... we still need the date.

I didn't get anything back that was supplied with the original package sent.... all the pics & evidence were kept on file.

In Houston, I'd say Tony's, Taste of Texas, Pappadeux, Pappa's Steakhouse, Fogo de Chao and the Melting Pot.

Hugh Hefner and the girls next door go there quite a bit.... or used to go there, before they split up. It looks really good, always wanted to try it. Hmmm wonder if they have one on the east coast *goes to google melting pot*

Ohhhh there's one in Philly! I am going there SOON!!

For fast food chains I love In and Out's burgers. I like Del Taco's breakfast burritos as well. For sit down, I like TGI Friday's (I love this one dish they have that is chicken on a bed of cheese, served with garlic mashed potatoes and shrimp YUUMMM) Wes took me out to a place called Claim Jumper while I was there too, Had roast beef with mashed potatoes and turnip..was also very good (not a bad replacement for the Canadian Thanksgiving I missed by being down there).

One thing I must say is until I visited down there I didnt realize just how big of meals you get in the states! I could almost never finish what I was getting.

The portions are outta control here!! We went to Carraba's and I ordered spaghetti, I swear there were at least 4 portions in the bowl. I brought it home and ate it 3 more times.

We absolutely LOVE the Cheesecake Factory! So yum! For burgers, we have a little burger joint here in Boise called The Big Bun that makes the best bacon cheeseburger in the world! We also love our thai restaurant called Thai Cuisine and our mexican restaurant called Fiesta Guadalajara.

I guess I'm not much help, but do try the Cheesecake Factory if you get a chance! It's way better than the Cheesecake Cafe in Canada, at least in my opinion!

The cheesecake factory is awesome, but their portions are way too big! How would you have any room for cheesecake after eating there! The 2 times I went I was too stuffed to order dessert wacko.gif

CanadaBoyfriend visiting Canada...
All the times my fiancee came to Canada to visit me, by road or air, he was never asked for ties to US or did have any either. I mean he had ties but didn't bring them as proof except to show his return ticket but was never asked. I don't think that Canada Customs is *too* worried about Americans staying in Canada illegally.... If you have nothing to show as proof of ties, all you can do is hope for the best....

Sorry, typo on my part. I-131 is the advance parole form. I-485 is the AOS. I-765 is EAD form. If you visit USCIS and click on IMMIGRATION FORMS at the top, there are your forms all listed.

No problem, the 3 forms needed are:

I-130, I-485, I-765

And for the adjustment of status application, you need to again prove that your husband can support you, by providing tax documents, letter from work, etc. It's almost like doing the original affidavit of support ALL over again. Fun times wacko.gif

Oh and congrats on your marriage!

Thanks. $1010..sheesh! like this whole process isnt expensive enough already

The next morning we managed to get an early start and had a relatively sane drive until we got to Dallas..... The traffic was horrendous!!! I mean bumper to bumper... even when we got I-45 from Dallas to Houston - there were just insane amounts of vehicles. We drove and drove and then we stopped.... litterally on the road. There was a traffic jam by Huntsville, TX. We sat on the road between Huntsville and Houston for over two hours. We moved a little bit but not much above 10 mph. Lily was screaming at this point. We are trying like hell to just get to the house. Finally we make it to Houston... Little did I know but John decided to take us on the biggest roads he could find in the city... I-45, Beltway 8, I-10!!! I have drove in cities like Edmonton, Saskatoon, Calgary but never in traffic like this..... I was totally nerve wracked! But we made it to the house without a scratch.. Thank God!

Congrats on making it to your new home. Katy is a nice area and you'll have access to Katy Mills Mall.

Overall, I'd say West Houston is the nicest area of the city. If you feel like driving a little ways, stop off at the Galleria, Highland Village or go downtown. You can easily get to downtown using I-10, just stay off the 610 Loop. One word of warning about downtown: Watch out for the MetroRail. For some reason or another, the "geniuses" behind that decided to make it silent and give little-to-no warning that it's moving. There have been tons of accidents involving the MetroRail colliding into cars.

I've lived in Houston my whole life and I know I-45, I-10 ("the Katy Freeway") and Beltway 8 like the back of my hand. Once you get into Houston, the freeways become insane. God, I love that. kicking.gif

I'm sorry you had such bad traffic on the way and that you got stuck between Houston and Huntsville. I hate Huntsville. It's a nice place to blow through at 60 MPH, but it's an extremely depressing place. That might be why the major TDCJ prison system is there.

One thing I've realized about Canadian highways is that the overall speed traveled seems to be a lot lower than what I was accustomed to in Texas. For instance, speeds seem to reach maximum of 80 KM/H, which is about 50 MPH. I'm used to driving somewhere around 80 MPH (roughly 130 KM/H) on the freeway.

Really? Most highways in Canada are 100 KM/H, Alberta it's 110 KM.

Canada2010 Vancouver Olympics

Now that Vancouver is to host the 2010 Winter Olympics these are some
questions people the world over are asking! Believe it or not these
questions about Canada were posted on an International Tourism Website.
Obviously the answers are jokes, and the questions are hilarious; but
sadly the questions were really asked. Ohhhhhhhh , Canada !!!

Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (
UK )
A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch
them die.

Q: Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street? ( USA )
A: Depends on how much you've been drinking.

Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto -can I follow the Railroad
tracks? ( Sweden )
A: Sure, it 's only Four thousand miles, take lots of water.

Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada ? ( Sweden )
A: So it's true what they say about Swedes.

Q: It is imperative that I find the names and addresses of places to
contact for a stuffed Beaver. ( Italy )
A: Let's not touch this one.

Q: Are there any ATM's(cash machines) in Canada ? Can you send me a list
of them in Toronto , Vancouver , Edmonton and Halifax ? ( UK )
A: What did your last slave die of?

Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada ? ( USA )
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe .
Ca-na-da is that big country to your North...oh forget it. Sure, the hippo
racing is every Tuesday night in Calgary . Come naked.

Q: Which direction is North in Canada ?( USA )
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees Contact us when you get here and
we'll send the rest of the directions.

Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada ? ( UK )
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? ( USA )
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which
is....oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night
in Vancouver and in Calgary , straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

Q: Do you have perfume in Canada ? ( Germany )
A: No, WE don't stink.

population is smaller than the male population? ( Italy )
A: Yes, gay nightclubs.

Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada ? ( USA )
A: Only at Thanksgiving.

Q: Are there supermarkets inToronto and is milk available all year round?
( Germany )
A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of Vegans. Milk is illegal.

Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada, but I forget its
name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. ( USA )
A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent, eating the brains
of anyone walking close to them. You can scare them off by spraying
yourself with human urine before you go out walking.

Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? ( USA )
A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first.
Send this on to other true Canadians AND let the games begin !!!

Drinking and driving is one of my serious pet peeves, it really upsets me. So many lives are lost of the stupidity and carelessness of others drinking and deciding "it won't happen to me" and then killing someone. Oftentimes the drunk doesn't die or get hurt it's the innocent. I say send them to jail, they deserve to pay for ending someone's life.

Actually, after I wrote that I was thinking that it sounds like i'm criticizing your Husband - just want to clarify that i'm not - really i'm not, Mike wouldn't go - even for his Brother's bachelor party (he doesn't have a brother btw lol)

BUT - I completely understand getting cornered in to something and feeling like you have to go along with it.

Some women have no problem with their Husband hanging out in strip clubs - whenever - and that's why I put the disclaimer in there - I really meant to each his own - i'm not judging anyone - just saying how I would feel about it. good.gif

In the process I was looking up California registration and DL stuff...it almost seems like I'm going to be going in circles. I'm okay really. I think I have accepted the fact that she's not a nice person.

I've experienced this in previous jobs. It's just part of the office dynamics. I'm going to make a guess here, but I'd hazzard a wager that your boss is single and quite possibly has half a dozen cats or more. You mentioned that she had a negative performance report in July. I imagine she feels threatened by both your age and work ethic. Combine this with an unprofessional malcontent and I can only imagine how uncomfortable things can be.

Emancipation - You mentioned that it is actually written in your lease agreement a clause that you are entitled to peace and quiet. Is it specifically quantified with "Quiet Hours" or anything like that? Would you happen to have a video camera, or a digital camera that can take 10-20 minute video clips? I would take clips of it, burn it on a DVD and submit it with your landlord as an official complaint. I would also log any responses from your landlord. You can by all means take him to small claims court for breach of contract.

Good idea, and take pictures of all the bad stuff like the mold and them using and overflowing your garbage bin! Do everything you can to put a file together of complaint.

Wow, so much in this thread!

Em - if you really want a way out of that place, I believe you will find it. The property owner sounds like a dweeb. I would imagine withholding your last months rent with a note that you are intending to move would suffice, along with your list of complaints and a hint that you are thinking of taking him to court.

As for the bachelor party - sounds like the person organizing it is just looking for a good night out at everyone elses expense. The whole stripper club thing is interesting. If my Husband wanted to go to a strip club and get turned on by random naked women - well the thought kind of makes me want to throw up (disclaimer: I am not anti strip club - to each his own).

Amanda! Isn't it interesting how there has to be one in every office, unfortunate that you have to work so closely with this woman.

GRRR! Is there any way to get out of the lease, due to the conditions or something? (you mentioned mold in the bathroom) you could claim that is unsafe to be around and try to find a new apartment?

THat's the frustrating part.. it looks like the only way to get out of a lease is for issues of safety (no heat, water etc).. when the lease document says we have a right to peace and quiet.. literally.. but that apparently isn't enough to get out of a lease ... bah!!!!

There is mold, but it hasn't grown and I don't think the health dept. would say we could really state this is a health concern. It's just black mold.... and most of that area is dry right now, so there's no more mold growing.. it just looks horrible this brown nasty spot with black stuff around the edges.

That's seriously brutal, you shouldn't have to live like that. And subletting would do no good because who would want to live there, you know? I would start looking for a new place 60 days before your lease is up, give your notice and get the hell outta there!

I ran into a similar situation a couple years ago for a friends bachelor party. His brother who was his best man kept making all these lavish plans. His brother was also a much bigger partier than the groom to be. He initially made reservations for the Penthouse Suite at the Riot House (famous hotel on the sunset strip), and sent an email to everyone who was going that they needed to send him a check or paypal for $500 for the room and that alcohol and strippers would be another $250 each. $750.... and we weren't even leaving town. Once his fiance caught wind of that idea, she went ballistic. Still ended up going to a strip club and a regular bar, but it was much less money. For me personally, I don't want a bachelor party really. I've been to several, and they always seem to be either a lot of trouble for the groom to be, or no fun at all.

The brother is the best man that's arranging this stuff too! And his brother is a wild, crazy alcoholic. I've met him before and he's a serious binge drinker. He lives at home with his parents so of course all this $$ is no worries for him, but he didn't even ask any people in the real world that pay bills and have responsibilities if they can afford it.

^^ $200 each for 15 guys is $3000, that seems like a lot for a limo bus! I could be wrong, but wow!

This is what it covers, rip off if you ask moi:

It includes cover to strip clubs and bars and unlimited mileage to wherever we would like to go. It also has Big Screen
TV's leather couches and such. It also includes TIP and tax.

I personally could care less if Glen goes to strip clubs, by all means enjoy yourself. I am just mad about the transportation to get to the girls!

Glen is leaving next week for 4 days to go to Tampa for his best friend's bachelor party. Which is fine and dandy, go have fun! So the flight cost $250 and the hotel is costing $200 and they are going to a few spring training games which is like $20, no biggy. So the groom's brother sends an e-mail to the guys saying he booked a limo bus (without asking, he just did it) and it will take them to all the strip clubs/bars they want and you must supply the booze, it's gonna cost $200 PER PERSON! There are like 15 guys going. He asked that they send him a cheque ASAP to cover. So we budgeted $450 for the trip (after airfare) for hotel, booze & food. So now the entire trip is going to cost near a grand, just for 4 days. And obviously I'm not working so $$ is a bit tight, we're fine but there's not a lot of extra cash going around for a trip to Florida. Now I have to scramble and find extra $$ (I take care of the bills and stuff) When he told me I got so pissed, I don't think I even should be because it's his $$ but still, $200 on a bloody bus to take you around to strip clubs all night? Take a cab!! wacko.gif

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - I want our washing machine fixed. Its been nearly 2 weeks. And the yucky water is still in the machine. It smells like something is dying in there. The landlord keeps telling us that someone is coming to fix it, and no one ever shows up. Chris and I had a nice romantic Saturday evening at the laundromat. We spent nearly $40 to have our clothes washed.

So we spoke with the landlord on Sunday and we said we'd call someone. She said no don't do that, because her friend was supposed to come over and fix it. Well if that friend isn't here by Friday, I'm calling a repair man and taking the bill off next month's rent.

The only saving grace is that the washing machine is located in the carport, so its really only stinking that place up.

That's so annoying! Do you and Emancipation have the same landlord?! wacko.gif I would do the same, call a repairperson yourself by week's end. If that were me, it'd be awful with the stink because our washer/dryer is in the kitchen

U can also search the drugs side effects online, tel lyou right away if it is an expected side effect or not. Or you can call his Dr's office and tell them! Most likey you wil just talk to the secretary, who wil pass on the info! take all of 2 minutes out of ones time.

drugs.com is the most informative site I have found that lists everything about the medication.

Not sure this is a rant, but I just don't understand the big horrahrah with removal of conditions.. once I get my extension letter and get my biometrics over with, i honestly don't care when the card comes. It's not like I can't work.. AOS was MUCH more stressful.. I just don't get the fuss? Am I strange? unsure.gif

I think it's just the excitment of getting your 10 year GC and being done with bloody USCIS for 10 years wahoooo!!

There's an article on abc news website about the "shock" of Mrs. Obama's choice of attire in her official portrait. Are you guys ready - she's showing bare arms in the photo! I know, how shocking and horrible eh!? Look at some of these quotes:

The nation's first spouse, who often dons sleeveless attire, dared to show off her limbs in the picture that graces her Web site and was released Sunday.

But some are criticizing the South Side Chicago native for her choice of attire, calling it too informal and out of season.

Obama's black dress with a strand of white pearls around her neck is just the most recent of her fashion choices that have featured her exposed arms.

Exposed arms!? OH MY GOD! That's shocking and so awful!

Seriously the media here is laughable and really pathetic. There aren't more important things to report on than the first lady wearing a sleeveless dress? She looks damn hot, good for her! I'd show off my toned arms if I looked like her.

NO NOT EXPOSED LIMBS!!!!!! ohmy.gif

MY VIRGIN EYES!!!!!!! wacko.gif

laughing.gif They make it sound like she flashed a ####### or something, she pulled a Janet Jackson and we saw nip!
