And yes I am fully aware that my fall on the pavement is nowhere near as catastrophic as a plane crash into the hudson river but I am still in pain. tongue.gif

Here, here! I didn't see that posting. I'd get too mad if I went and saw it, so I'm going to stay away. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that when I mentioned earlier about people I knew from here on VJ and stuff they've said, and I'm like..."whoa! I never thought they thought like that!", that happens here, in the Canada forum as well. Sometimes people from here on this forum are very bad too. Maybe I'm too sensitive (gosh, haven't I been told that before!), maybe it's because I'm older, but some of the things here on VJ, whether it be OT or here on the Canada forum are sometimes disgraceful. Just my opinion.

I live in a duplex in the upstairs apartment, and I am always cautious about my noise level. Like I'll never run the dishwasher or laundry past 9pm usually, and I'm very courteous. I know there are people DIRECTLY below me and I don't want to wake them up or disturb anyone. It's too bad some people don't show respect to their neighbors and only care about themselves.

So I bought the "TWIN DRAFT GUARD" from those TV commercials, it doesn't work at all!! GRRRR why do I always fall for "as seen on TV" #######? headbonk.gif

So I am thinking it doesn't fit correctly on your door??

That's the thing with that stuff - they use them in ideal conditions that suit the product. Bah!

The commercial makes it look like it works so easily and fits all kinds of doors/floors, but when we put it on it doesn't glide like it does on TV, it just gets stuck and slides under the door then you have to pull it out, stupid thing! It might work better on windows but I don't have the types of windows that slide up/down

The TV ads show it moving smoothly on any kind of floor because the door's bottom clearance is like 4 inches. That's why there are drafts! laughing.gif

Thanks for this info.
I was wondering about that thingy.

I went to our local hardware store and bought some weather stripping.
Two types, the foam one to stick on really loosely placed doors.
And the other one that is about 1 and !/4 inches in width and long (plastic, comes in different colours), and you can cut it to size, peel and stick.
Great for large gaps under doors and on the sides too.
I strongly recommend it.
Cheap! A couple bucks.
star_smile.gif

That sounds good.... Much better and cheaper than the twin draft!

I think Laura got a bit homesick after two months too. I think thats when the reality of everything really starts to set in, its great we're finally with our spouses but theres no doubt we miss our family too.

Its even more difficult when you're not even allowed to leave the country even if you wanted to go home for visit.

Has anyone expressed their opinion (vent) about the use of diposable dishes on a regular basis just not ocassionally in some homes in the USA. Or is it just that I come from "green" BC and as an educator and a Girl Guide leader I am trying to make sure that things are reused, recycle and reduced. My stepson even said the other day, "wow, the recycling bin is always full now and the trash aka garbage has hardly anything." When we went to Virginia for holidays, there were no real dishes readily available just disposable. It is sad to think that the landfills are full of throw away dishes. For Christmas this year we bought decent disposable plates and cutlery and I washed it all and put away for the next big soiree. I was vetoed down with renting dishes etc. So I will continue with my cloth shopping bags, and try to educate my corner of the USA about the dangers of dispoables especially foam. End of rant.
Thanks for listening.

Janet

I do notice here that many people use paper plates and cutlery and throw them out right away.... I've never seen it as much in Canada as I do here. I always bring my cloth bags for groceries and often get 5 cents off per bag.

Ok, I just think this is really tacky.

I just went to online banking to pay a bill and I noticed the house owner cashed our rent cheque today - or deposited it whenever - bottom line is, it went through today.

While the cheque is dated January 1st, I do know that banks here will pretty much cash anything with a dollar amount on it, so that isn't the issue.

The thing is, why would she cash the cheque before rent day? I always send it to her at least a week in advance as I never want the rent to be late - however I don't think that gives her the right to cash it any old time she feels like it might be convenient for her.

For all she knows that is all the money we have - or what if we got paid at the end of the month and the money wasn't even in there yet?

Tacky tacky tacky.

That's bad Trailmix!! Our payday is on the 15th of the month and rent is due on the 15th so if our landlord cashed our cheque before payday we could have a problem on our hands!!

I've got this aggrivating co-worker here. To begin with, she is one of those people that is annoying, without saying a word or doing a thing. She loves to parrot catch phrases and buzz words she hears people say so that she can sound like an IT specialist. She always butts into conversations and will usually try to hijack it with some asinine comment that is completely unrelated. She will turn on new age music (instrumental) and sing her own lyrics. She will work her entire 9 hour shift and barely do her own work. During the day, she will volunteer to help everyone else around the building with stuff, and then she will come back at night and stay til the wee hours of the morning to actually do her own work (all unpaid). Recently, my pet peeve with her has been that someone told her that I was engaged to a Canadian. At first, she would ask me random questions, usually about 5-8 per day. They started getting more and more obscure, like "Why is there an "H" in the middle of the Montreal Canadien's logo?". I knew, but that was my snapping point. I told her, "I'm from the U.S.... i've been to Canada maybe a dozen times, i'm not an expert, you should check out wikipedia.". Now, I get a "daily fact" about Canada from her. How do you politely tell someone "Our jobs have no connection to each other, so, I think it would be best if we never speak again."? To make matters worse, she absolutely loved the last two garfield movies. wacko.gif

I was so upset this morning... I went to get my PA driver's license. I looked on the Penndot website before to find out exactly what non-US citzens required. I needed my Ontario license, SSN, K-1, passport, I-94, proof of residency, etc. So I went prepared and the clerk was so RUDE. I explained that I was here to get a PA driver's license and gave her all of my paperwork. She looked at my Visa and very rudely and with attitude said "Your Visa expires on January 11th, therefore you are no longer legal and don't qualify for a PA license". Well the Jan. 11th expiry date is just the date I had to activate my K-1, obviously but try explaining that to her. She kept insisting I wouldn't be legal anymore. I tried to explain how I got married and applied for AOS but it was like talking to a brick wall. Finally she called her manager over and he was very rude too. When I calmly tried to explain the K-1 he actually said "SETTLE DOWN MISS" like he was talking to a child and as if I was getting upset which I wasn't. I said "Actually, see this sheet here, I printed this off YOUR website. It indicates as a K-1 Visa holder I am entitled to a PA DL as long as I have the following paperwork listed, which I have." They hummed and hawed and finally decided to give it to me. I was so upset with the treatment and the way they spoke to me I had tears. I know it's silly but I'm always kind and polite to everyone and didn't deserve to be spoken to in that manner. I was so mad that once they gave me my temp DL I huffed out and didn't even register my car mad.gif I'm going to go somewhere else to do that!!

Doesn't the visa have to have a certain amount of time left on it? As I have understood it, many states require the visa to be valid for x number of days in order to use it as proof to get a DL. The thing I find so tricky is that technically, the K-1 visa is null after you get married and if you don't file for AOS right away doesn't it leave you in limbo?

Not too sure about that.... but the sheet I received off the website stated you require the marriage certificate to obtain your DL if you have already applied for AOS so I had that too which they made a photocopy of....

Stuff like that makes me so angry because they treat you as if you're trying to accomplish something illegal.

Wish there was a place you could complain to about their conduct. Head high - maybe you educated them for the next person in line.

I'm steamed too now - who are they to decide whether you're here legally or not and whether your documentation is valid. grrrrrrrrrrrr!

That's actually what bothered me the most. I was prepared and had the info from their website, and of course english if my first language. But what if an immigrant from another country went in and possibly was not as informed or didn't speak good english, they would have had a very difficult time and left without obtaining their DL. I would have asked to speak to a manager but the manager was rude as well sad.gif I think they should have some sort of manual at the desk to explain the procedure for non-US Citizens so they are informed about the rules and restrictions.

He shouldn't be talking to an open forum about details like that, in my opinion. He should be talking to family and good friends and getting support.

You're so right, and for him to post information as "factual" when it's actually absurd and misleading is just wrong... "ICE is going to come arrest you on the street if you don't have papers on you" what a joke!

I wanted to know what this Valsu was all about so I read his posts.... OMG are you kidding me? It's really sad when someone needs attention that they make up some stories like that, pathetic... And the length of every post he has is just ridiculously long.... Way to go Amanda for telling him how it is!! good.gif

You Canadian meanies laughing.gif My feet are just fine and not at all hobbitlike nor cheesy tongue.gif

I fully support the shoes off in the house thing and went out and bought big baskets to put our shoes in, right next to the door. Hubby did it for awhile, but unfortunately now has forgotten how to place his shoes in the basket. Instead, he leaves them right where he took them off, IN THE DOORWAY FOR ME TO TRIP OVER!

I'm trying not to be mean but I dont know how much more i can handle, I even have a nice shoe rack at the door with all our shoes on it but they seem to totaly ignore it. It doesnt faze em even when they know i just scrubbed the floors and vacuumed. ranting33va.gif

I have a shoe rack at the door too! How much more of a HINT do people need!!??

I told US friends of mine about "boot rooms" in elem. schools Canada where you have indoor and outdoor shoes and you take your outdoor ones off when you go to school in the boot room. Remember? She gave me one of these... blink.gif and she's a school teacher here in CT!!! laughing.gif

laughing.gif I remember those!! We hung up our snowpants in the boot rooms as well!

I agree with this.... It drives me crazy when people wear their shoes in the house (I am a bit of a germaphobe and clean freak wacko.gif ) So I imagine all the dirt and germs being tracked through my house, then I imagine them going on my feet and I get so mad!!I know this sounds gross but when you go in a public bathroom there are dirty pee germs on your shoes and then someone wears them in your house, so you have pee in your house!! I know I sound crazy laughing.gif

I had to ask Glen to PLEASE take his shoes off at the door, we just got new carpet put in and I don't want it getting worn down and dirty!! When his family comes over they don't and I don't know how to ask them politely!! So I grin and bear it, as soon as they leave I pull out the vaccum whistling.gif

This is a mini vent but I have never vented before so here I go. tongue.gif So ever since I moved here (3 weeks now) the recycling people are not picking up our recycling bin. After I moved obviously there was a ton of cardboard and plastic ####### and bags and I put it all seperate. I put the cans, plastics, cardboards in seperate bags. The recycling comes on Friday and every Friday I would look outside and our 2 boxes are still there but everyone else's is turned over. I got so mad "why aren't they emptying our boxes" I even called the town and they said "are you seperating the stuff" YES I am! So we'll see what happens today hehehe

I have had a few friends with similar reactions; not as harsh mind you but not supportive at all. The way I look at it;
"you can't help who you fall in love with" I didn't choose to fall in love with an American, uproot my life and move but it happened and you go with it. The support of friends and family is important and those that choose not to support you are not true friends.

It all depends. I was put on my husbands the day we could produce a marriage certificate. Some people have had problems and others haven't.

Yup that's right! As soon as we were married I was added, even without an SSN. However some companies require SSN, every case is different. Your fiancee should check in advance and if you can't be added right away, you should consider private insurance just in case of emergency.

All day I have been awaiting the new "keeping up with the kardashians" Yes I like trashy tv.

I don't care, I know Kim is ditzy but I think she is just gorgeous. My husband disagrees with me and this has led us in to many debates about his own sexuality. tongue.gif jk

Ohhhh I LOVE that show! I've seen the previous seasons and never miss an episode! I can't wait for tonight. I think Kim is beautiful, so curvy. If I swung the other way, she'd be my type for sure laughing.gif

Yesterday afternoon, we went to see Watchmen, then after that went to the comic book store to buy the book and pick up a few of our subscriptions that we hadn't picked up since like Christmas. Then we went to Big Lots and put a big ol' cuddler reclincer chair on lay-away (they were out of stock tongue.gif ) then came home to eat my pork shoulder that had been cooking all day in the crock pot while we were out.

Today my friend came over while our hubbies are out D&Ding together, and we watched Nights in Rodanthe (*sob*). After she left, I raked the front yard for a while, then pulled weeds out of the front flower bed. Then the dogs and I played "box" out in the backyard for a while (i give them a cardboard box and they chase each other around with it until it's shredded, it's one of their favourite games) and then I came in and had something to eat.

Now I'm here, procrastinating. I really should be organizing my receipts to we can get our taxes filed. wacko.gif huh.gif

Isn't NIGHTS so good... I watched it with my sister a few weeks ago and bawled!! crying.gif
