This song always makes me feel melancholy:

Comin' Home-City&Colour

Well I've been down to Georgia,
I've seen the streets in the west,
I've driven down the 90,
Oh hell, I've seen America's best.
I've been through the Rockies,
Hell, I've seen Saskatoon,
I've driven down the Highway 1
Just hopin' that I'd see you soon.

Cuz I'm comin' home
I'm comin' home (x6)

Well I've never been to Alaska,
But I can tell you this;
I've been to Lincoln, Nebraska
And hell you know it ain't worth ######.
I've been through Nova Scotia,
Sydney to Halifax,
But I'll never take any pictures
Cuz I'll know I'll just be right back.

Cuz I'm comin' home
I'm comin' home (x6)

Well I've seen a palace in London,
I've seen a castle in Wales,
But I'd rather wake up beside you
And breathe that old familiar smell.
I never thought you could leave me,
I figured I was the one,
But I understand your sadness,
So I guess I should just hold my tongue.

But I'm comin' home
I'm comin' home (x6)

I know that we're taking chances,
You told me life was a risk,
I just have one last question;
Will it be my heart
Or will it be his?

Comin' home,
I'm comin' home (x6)

I think once you filed, it shows you are doing immigration the legal and right way. It would be dumb to spend all that $$ and effort into the immigration process, then to throw it away by staying illegally. I'm sure the border guards know that.

CanadaHow did everyone meet their american/canadian significant others?
QUOTE (seekersharer @ Feb 8 2009, 09:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Unlike many of your stories, I met my fiancee almost 30 years ago.

We grew up in South Western Ontario. Our families attended the same church together. She was a couple of years older than me but I was completely infatuated with her. Her younger sister liked me and I have since heard she was always mad at her older sister for taking me from her. I wish I had known then.

There are a number of stories through those early childhood years. We went on a week long family boat trip up the Rideau Canal one year and during that trip my beloved dropped a necklace at a dock we were tied at for a day camping. I, ignored my friends and spent hours looking for it. I eventually found it. I gave it to her hoping to win her heart. In my dreams only.

A few years later when she was a teenager, she worked at Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream. After church on Sunday nights, we would go for ice cream. I would purposefully make sure I could always be lined up so I could get her to serve me. I loved getting ice cream from her. Rocky road, chocolate mint and anything else she ever gave me in those little pink spoons. And her very strong right arm. That impressed me. But she never knew how much I liked her. And even if I had, she was just that little bit too old for me. But in my heart she was my beautiful.

Our lives went from there... in very separate ways. For almost 30 years. And lots of story that affected our lives in the interim. Then about 5 years ago I was speaking at a conference in San Diego. One of my friends, who happened to be my beloved's cousin, suggested I look her up as she lived there. She thought we would understand each other a lot and have much in common. So I got her email address and wrote her. And we arranged to meet and have dinner.

Wow... the evening came and we met and talked for hours catching up... sharing our lives and where we had been in the previous 30. And it seemed like 5 minutes. She was a kindred spirit. A soul friend. We clicked. For the first time in my life I felt like this person actually got me. I felt so free with her.

But because our lives were what they were... with our individual families, in separate countries, we continued with our lives, not even assuming anything other than that. We didn't communicate for more than 2 years other than a couple of random emails. Mainly because each of us was embroiled and dealing with our own lives. But somehow, that single meal changed something.

And then one day, out of the blue I got an email from her. She was checking in with me. Just to see how I was. And in a wonderfully serendipitous way, we were in the exact same place in our lives. The timing couldn't have been more right. Through difficult days we supported each other remotely.

And then - the rest, as they say - is history. A story that is wonderful to remember and full of delightful anticipation for the future.

Today I am waiting for Packet 3 to show up from Montreal. In many ways I can't believe it and at the same time can't imagine it any other way.

Thanks for letting me share my story. And in some small way, share this journey of immigration with you.

All the best as you create your own wonderful story!

t

Wow! Now that is quite the story! I like those kind, the long separation and then everything just clicks serendipiously.....ah romantic smile.gif

....It was fate how we met, because I was invited to the party to meet my future husband!!

That is so cute JillA!

I met my husband through Yahoo Member Directories back in November of 2001. I was looking for someone to befriend that would later be able to fix my computer if any such problems would arise (hey, it's always good to have a computer geek, mechanic, lawyer, and doctor as good friends right? lol Though my older brother is the computer genius in the family, we weren't exactly the best of friends through the teenage years...).
I searched the directory for "computer" to see what screen-names would come up. The one that caught my eye was "Computer-Wizmaster", mostly because he was around my age, and not some old prune. (I should mention that he was located in Philadelphia) I sent him a message and we talked casually. I later found out that even though he is a computer genius, he was merely trying to edit his profile on Yahoo, not come up with a new screen name, and that the "Computer-Wizmaster" screen-name was a mistake and was never meant to exist. I was the only person to ever contact him on that screen name and I like to say it was a bit of Divine Intervention that brought us together. So at the ripe age of 15, I met my future husband, online. At the time he liked this girl at his school and I was trying to encourage him to atleast speak with her, he says I was so kind that he just forgot all about this other girl and focussed on me wub.gif . Eventually he started introducing me to his online friends (he had his own IRC chat room at the time) as his "girlfriend" and I guess it just stuck.
Then in May of 2002, he was invited by his school teachers to chaperone the freshmen (9th graders) to Niagara Falls, ON. His school has NEVER gone to Niagara Falls, ON before, and I'm fairly certain they have never gone since. Since Niagara Falls is only like an hour away from where I was living, it was the perfect excuse to go see him for the first time in person! I weasled my older cousin (who was living with us at the time) to drive me down to Niagara Falls after school and we told my mother that we were going to Niagara Falls to celebrate Queen Victoria Day (which was a few days prior). He was a few hours late, which just added to the anxiousness of the whole situation, but eventually he arrived. Our visit was a brief 3 hours or so, but that first kissed sealed the deal!

And that's how we met smile.gif Been together 7 years now and are finally living together biggrin.gif

I was going to recommend freezing them but I see that you've already read that! It works for me. You want it to be solid when it gets to your tummy so that it dissolves less quickly. That way you won't have fishy burps.

Is it more difficult to swallow a frozen pill in your opinion? The pills are HUGE, if they are frozen I might choke to death LOL

It is a Target product so you should be able to get them at Target or through their website www.target.com. They are all natural and provide Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) and Omega-6. I get the double strength 2.400 mg size.

Ohhh thanks Kathryn!! I will go to Target and try those out, I need to go there anyhow and get other stuff.

Walmart has the same thing also. I'm with you, I absolutely cannot stand fish. I dislike all seafood. If it comes from the water, I don't eat it. But I do take the Walmart brand Omega-3 pills every day and I don't have any problems with them.

I don't know what it is.... but even looking at fish makes me queasy.... the only fish I can make for hubby is frozen breaded fish which doesn't look like fish.... and all seafood I can't stand either.... shrimp, lobster, rubbery calamari ohhh noooo!!

I think I'm gonna barf.... sorry for TMI.... but my doctor told me to start taking Omega-3 fish oil capsules, because since I don't eat fish my body isn't getting essential fatty acids or something, and Omega-3 is supposed to be really good for you. FedEx is fantastic in the U.S., so I don't know why I didn't use them. I did get them to send my PC, monitors and sword collection. However, I felt that items such as books, clothing and DVDs would have a fairly good chance of arriving safely. I suppose I was wrong. mad.gif

Ugh you guys want to hear some horror stories about working as a lifeguard for parks and rec in Toronto?

During the summer you would find peoples wallets in the change room... it was a regular occurrence. If you found a wallet, you'd take it to the manager and he would split the money with you and you'd take the wallet and put it back in the lost and found.... no word of a lie.

Anyways this one time the CAP (people who work the desks) brought up this Michael Jackson wallet, and the manager looked inside and there was 80.00 and he pulls out 40.00 and told her to keep the rest. I was standing there in shock, and he told her that no one ever claimed it and even if they did they would never suspect the employees. She was super nervous but just took it.

Later on I was downstairs at the front desk helping out and this 8 year old boy comes in with his dad and asks if we found his wallet. He explains it and its the freaking Michael Jackson wallet. I went into the lost and found and gave him the empty wallet back... and his dad says "See you found it! Is your money still there?"

And the kid looked in it, and his face went to complete sadness and he said no.

The dad was so sad but tried to lift his sons spirits by saying: "Hey well, at least you have the wallet!" and he turned to me and said: "His grandma gave him that wallet for his birthday with the money in it, shes from Alberta so they don't see eachother too often..." and he continued to tell me this super sad story.

After they left I just felt like complete ####### and left to go and bawl my eyes out. I wanted to tell him who had his poor kids money but at the same time I was scared I would get in trouble. To this day I still feel bad I didn't do the right thing and say something.

Ohhh that's so sad. I cannot believe a manager would do that, shameful.

I think I messed up on my AOS package for the affidavit of support.... Some tax stuff. I was talking to somebody in the Dec thread and they just got an RFE for not submitting the 1099's. I submitted W2's but no 1099's, after looking thru the package again my husband did have 1 1099 from his bank and who the hell knows what I did. I definitely didn't send it though, I thought you only needed W2's. I could kick myself so hard right now, I thought I did everything correctly. I know I don't have an RFE yet but I feel it coming now. I hope it doesn't delay my AP/EAD approval and only my AOS approval, if I do get one.

Don't know how different the I-864 and the I-864EZ is (we filed the EZ) but it contains this paragraph:

"If you provide a photocopy of your tax return(s), you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these Forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your return(s) rather than a photocopy."

So it looks like if you provided a transcript you don't have to provide a 1099.

Does anyone else think it sux that you know all these terms and acronyms? dry.gif

Interesting, I'll have to look back and see if we sent in an IRS transcript. GRRR, I can't wait for this to all be over with. This Visa Journey is getting old! wacko.gif

I agree. The funny thing is my parent have been married 25 years this year, and when they first started dating they took dictionaries to their dates because my mom's knowledge of english was minimul at best, and my dad didn't know german, so I'm sure Wes and I know a lot more about each other than they did at that stage.

My sister is happy for me, His sister and mom are happy (his dad has the same concerns as my family) and all our friends are sooooooo excited for me and glad to see me finally happy, so I'm not sure why she keeps cutting me down like I haven't thought of all this stuff. She actually told me last night that at times I act like a teenager >< Usually I have no issues with my mom, but this issue is bugging the ####### out of me.

Danu, I completely understand what you're going through!! While my parents were in fact quite supportive, they said the same things. "You don't know what it'll be like living with someone, it's different over a weekend, the longest you've spent together on a stretch is 8 days" yada yada. They were also worried about the getting married in 90 days, we need more time to "get to know eachother" I've heard it all. It didn't matter what anyone said. We were SO CLOSE and we talked 2-3 hours per night. We knew every detail about the other, and in an LD relationship you build such a strong foundation due to being apart. The warnings kept coming, I got here. It's been almost 3 months and never been happier. Living with Glen is even better than expected, I knew he'd be wonderful but it's better than that. My Mom even said to me on the phone the other night "you've adjusted much better than I thought you would". It didn't take time for us to get accustomed to living together, we click and it happened immediately. Before I moved she even said "I know you have high hopes, but know that if it doesn't work out for whatever reason we are here for you, you can always come back". I knew it would work out though, in my heart. I wouldn't quit my job that I enjoyed with good pay, leave all my best friends and family if I didn't know it.

Just know we've all been there before.... I'm sure another reason your Mum is feeling this way is because she'll miss you terribly and maybe doesn't want you to leave. You will get through it over time and they will accept it eventually and be happy for you both rose.gif

I guess I'm fortunate in our pharmacy as well - they always ask if I have had this drug before or if I have any questions, and when I pick up my husband's cholesterol medication they always ask me if he is experiencing certain side effects.

My insurance doesn't want me to use a certain type of insulin even though there are no generics available and want me to use a totally different insulin (not brand but type of action) - which I have tried and does not work well for me - so accordingly the copay is 75% of the cost rather than 25% of the cost of the one they want me to use instead. They also want me to use a totally different glucometer - which isn't nearly as good as the one I do use and have used for some time now - and buy a whole new one made by their choice of company. I have to pay 75% of the cost of the test strips as copay as well. They are obviously 'in bed' with the drug/glucometer manufacturers of their choice, and apparently the doctor - who is the one who is supposed to be making such decisions - and the patient's actual medical needs - are only of secondary importance. It is very frustrating.

That's terrible Kathryn. You hear alot of stories about insurance companies down here, and it's really shocking. Some people are literally dying and the insurance co's choose not to cover certain treatments, and if people can't afford it well too bad! It's good to hear other people's experiences.

^ Jill I noticed the same thing with pharmacies here too. I used to get annoyed with Safeway in Edmonton, because they'd explain the same thing over and over each time I filled my BC.

Here I got new meds, I'd never had before and once I picked them up, I was on my way. No explanation what so ever.

But the next time I filled my antibiotics, we went to Long's Drugs (I think its local), I asked the pharmacist about generic vs brand and drug interactions. She was super helpful and explained what our planned covered (not the brand name) and any interactions with stuff I'm on. I guess you have to ask here. Which is strange in the land of constant worry of lawsuits.

You're right, I guess the only way to find out is to ask and they don't offer the info... speaking of the land of lawsuits, I had to sign a mountain of consent forms at the doc. There was actually a "voicemail consent form" which made me laugh. You had to sign your authorization that they can leave medical results on your voicemail (Except HIV results) and you can't sue them if someone in your household other than yourself picks up the message and you don't want anyone else to know the results. I was like really? People sue for that!? ohmy.gif

My little vent for the day.... well I saw my first US Physician yesterday, which went well. I have high blood pressure, and had 3 months worth of meds when I moved so I had to go to the doctor to get a new prescription. The doc was super nice so I'm happy I found a good GP. Anyhoo, I went to Rite Aid today to fill my prescription. I waited about half and hour and then they called me to the front, I payed and they sent me along and didn't ask if I had been on these meds before or had any questions, even though I've never filled at Rite Aid before. (Whenever I filled a prescription at Shoppers the pharmacist ALWAYS asked if I had been on them and understood what it was, etc) So I get home and look at the bottle, it's a completely different drug name than the one I'm on and what the doc wrote down on the prescription. So I spend half and hour googling this new drug trying to figure out what it is if they made some mistake.... but it ends up being the generic brand of the med I was on in Canada. I just don't think it's professional of the pharmacy to send you away without explaining that they gave you a generic brand or to go over the drugs with you.... especially when it comes to meds you have to be really careful. If it was a mix up or something and I didn't look into it, there could be serious consequences!!

So last friday afternoon I called the photocopier maintenance place to ask them to come and fix our copier. It was doing some funky line things on color copies.. anyway they told me that the copy repair guy probably wouldn't be around until the next week (which I said was fine).. so about 2 hrs later he shows up and is visibly angry with me for calling the repair line on a Friday afternoon (he tells me this).. I'm like blink.gif if something is BROKEN I can't call? anyway, so he gives me all this attitude, and then tells me he doesn't have time to fix it he'll have to come back this week..

ClockWatch2.gif Today rolls around and I call them back and say.. he never came back to fix my copier..

So he just walks in and is huffing and puffing about how he had to wait for parts.... um... did I have that detail and did he call this week to explain that to me? nopers.. headbonk.gif

Wow, that's something you think to yourself, not say to a customer!! He really loves his job!!

laughing.gif Man I have not listened to Modest Mouse in FOREVERRRZZZZZ.

Okay so here's my vent.

Yesterday at work, shite really hit the fan. I have two friends here at work who work in my office. They are AMAZING and around my age. I really enjoy working with them.

There is another lady in our department who has a controversial working history but we try to include her in our vents/opinions/thoughts/work process so she doesn't feel isolated. She works in another building and not with us because our department is large and split in various ways.

Yesterday my boss (who I'm sure you have all seen me complain about before) goes rushing into the Vice Presidents office saying that this lady told her that we all find her highly annoying (which is true) and that we talk about her behind her back. The VP was in a meeting with one of my friends.

My boss is 60 years old. She loves drama. Why would you even care?

There are so many reasons why we have to vent to each other about my boss.

-She's rude
-she doesn't have any manners (ie. sucks back her snot and eats./talks with her mouth open. She even farted last week and didn't excuse herself)
-she's very dirty (her phone is caked with dirt from her face)
-she micro-manages me
-she's confrontational; even if you approach her with a question she will right away snap back with "I gave that to you already" or "I did that right"
-when I'm talking on the phone with someone, if she doesn't like what I will say she will yell over me from her office and make me look bad
-she "shushed" me last week while talking to a student even though she has an office with a door and I only have a cubicle

I could really go on and on and the worst part is, every one that has tow ork with her feels the same way. I have never heard one person at work tell me they were fond of her before. Every one only says how hard she is to work with. She's been through 5 or 6 assistants in the last 2 years.

Any ways, the VP says to her "no comment" and that barging in his meeting with my collegue was entirely inappropriate as this could have waited.

I'm glad she knows we all find her annoying now, but I'm really disappointed in the person who we though we could trust. She complains to every one about our boss all the time, and for her to tell her that we talk behind her back but not incriminate herself in this mess is really shady. Now I knwo I can't say ANYTHING To her period.

Just frustrated.

Yesterday I had to type forms up on a TYPE WRITER. For 3 forms it took me 2 hours. I have never used a type writer in my life and it was hard to find one. She basically told me, "well this is the only way it can be done.." and didn't help me or give me any solutions other than go find a type writer and figure out how to use it.

It's just how she is. She's a very frustrating person.

That's horrible!! I'm sorry your boss is a huge beeotch Amanda, but you really cracked me up when you said she farted and sucks back her snot rofl.gif that is so disgusting!! How does someone like that work in an office environment? I always wonder how people like that become management in the first place. At least you have your friends to vent to and they can relate too since they know her as well!

Awww feel better! Don't forget the OJ! Are you going to go to the Doctor and get that cold checked out? Have you taken anything for it? laughing.gif

I just lol'ed for real!

A cold means you need to rest and do as little as possible.
Ask for more love at this time.

Yeah, when you Husband walks in say 'hey sugar man, give me some love'

MrsCat, my take on your appalling phone calls was the same as that mean ole krikits. I guess sometimes the blah news kind of sticks in peoples heads and so when they talk to you that's what comes out. I like the guidelines idea.

Ugh why does everyone suggest I go to a doctor when all I have is a freakin cold?? There is no cure for the common cold!

And then people always ask: "Did you take something?"

Why? Why do I always need to take something???? YES I TOOK MY ENTIRE DAMN MEDICINE CABINET AND I STILL FEEL LIKE #######!

That's silly, why do people go to the doc for a cold. They can't do anything for you, just tell you to drink lots of liquids and rest. It's a waste of the docs time. Especially down here because you have to pay a co-pay or what not depending on your insurance, I won't be going to the doc until it's necessary!

That is just a crazy story, but it happens all too often. People forget that this is ONE day of your life, and is it worth ruining relationships and being a huge beeotch for ONE day!? You hear so many bridezilla stories, and it just makes you shake your head. My sister was the coolest bride, nothing frazzled her and she said I could pick my own dress, she didn't force me to wear something ugly she picked out! I personally haven't dealt with any bridezillas yet, none of my friends have yet to be married so we'll see. But I commend you Amanda for taking a stand and speaking out, why should you get bossed around and not appreciated. You are entitled to your opinion and if she doesn't like it well to darn bad!!

DPX.. stubborn old folks. My husbands grandmother is one, she thinks she knows the immigration process better than us and would tell me that I could work when I first arrived even though we all know thats true.

Its soo frustrating to try to talk to them. They don't understand, they're not in the process, its sometimes just best to nod along and smile politely.

That's like my husband's grandparents.... They did NOT understand why we HAD to get married within 90 days. We got married just the 2 of us by a JOP and are having a big wedding with all friends and family next year. But they were really upset and didn't understand how you can get married "twice" they insisted the rules were wrong and I could wait 2 years and also work while I was waiting laughing.gif
