I didn't call them about our I-130 - but the wait times were not as long at that point. There is no reason why you can't call - don't know that it will help at all.

Your situation seems very similar to mine when I was in that stage. My husband was in the states and I was in Canada and of coarse you can't dial that 1 800 number from up here. Well....my husband does not like to phone people and wasn't too 'rushed' to call for me, so I drove to the border (buffalo) went to the nearest phone booth and called (I was in a very loud grocery store!!) I got to speak to someone but in order for me to get any answers or to put in a request to find out what's happening (since it had been longer than so many weeks since any contact with NCIS), they required my husband...the American...to call. So my whole trip to the states was a waste. So then, I had my husband call me on the cell phone while he was at the pay phone, he called them, and requested info, they said we will be contacted within 60 days about our inquiry.....5 days later I got my approval!!! So, if it's been a long time (not sure of exact time lapse) since they contacted you last, your spouse can call from US to request an inquiry. But GOOD LUCK and hope it gets to you soon.

Oh gosh... you drove to Buffalo to use the pay phone! Did you tell the border guards when they asked the purpose of your trip: "I need to use the phone" laughing.gif

laughing.gif Yeah. They call it mac and cheese, I think. You won't find Kraft Dinner here. The american version is completely different, I hear.

I really don't find it much different, aside from the packaging. Then again, I don't find the ketchup much different and everything calls me crazy... But, if it makes you feel any better RYCK, I did the same thing! But his reply was, "you mean like... Mac and Cheese?" I also find it very very strange my fiance gets milk delivered to his house by a milk man! Is that a mysterious American thing too?

That's so cool, I didn't think they had milkmans anymore! We used to have one growing up in a small town outside of Montreal, we'd put this sign in the window if we needed milk and he'd leave it outside!

Definitely a housekeeper. I love gardening and cooking, and there is generally quite a mess after I prepare a large meal for friends, so I could do without that cleaning!!! And since I am by myself, I pretty much do a daily walk to the grocery store for the items I need for my next few meals. This gives me a chance to get a bit of exercise, walk the dog and decompress from they day all in one!!

That's what I used to do too. I miss that. sad.gif Plus, they sucker you in, here, with all their "buy one get one free" deals. They have so many buy 1 get 1 free deals! At my local grocer, sometimes it's 5 for $5 so I end up stocking wayyyy too much, I don't have enough cupboards for all the canned goods!

Have to check with ur State,as they vary---but usually after 30 days one has to register their vehicle in the USA and get a drivers license of that state! Getting a drivers license is usually not a problem--again depending on the State, it may be a simple 1 for 1 exchange, OR they may make u write a test, which may or may not include a drivers test!!! so be prepared for that! Some DMV's want prrof that u reside in that Stae as well--like a utility bill with ur name on it. I know VA did!

Yes your problems wil prob arise when u try and register your car in that State. They will want to see the title, which, of course you won't have!! I'm sure 1 could just keep their cdn drivers license and insurance, BUT if u were to get into an accident, you may then have bigger problems if they found out you had been residing in the USA all this time without registering ur vehicle. WOuld they investigate and find that out?? who knows!! I'm sure others will have better info! I pretty much gave away my Nissan Spec V prior to moving as I didnt want the hassle.

Don't forget u need the letter from the manufacturer stating it is compliant. The actual name of it slips my tiny male brain

CanadaQuestion for K-1 people
Maybe if I'd had a poor experience with the K-1, I may re-think doing it again. But everything in my case went so smoothly, I was a lucky one. From my interview date, to my speedy AOS, to my speedy EAD/AP approval, to receiving EI right away (even though I had no EAD) to my GC approval in near record time - I would do it over again for sure!

CanadaQuestion for K-1 people
No, I would do K-1 over again. Reason being, was I didn't want to be living apart from my husband. Once we were married, I couldn't bear the thought of leaving to go back to Canada. So, I'm glad I did the K-1 as it worked out so well for us.

Hurray I made it almost painlessly through the Edmonton poe.

He asked me :

1) What is the purpose of your visit?
Me : To visit my fiance?
2)When will you be returning?
Me : July 9th.
3) What do you do for a living?
Me : I'm a field frep for three different marketing company's.
(After several minutes of typing and silence...)
4) What exactly do you do for a living?
Me : (Long boring explicit explanation)
5) When are you getting married?
Me : After our visa is approved.
6) Oh... so he's already petitioned for you?
Me : Yes would you like to see my I-797c?
7) Yes let me read this.
Me : (waits while he reads)
Other CBP guard : I'm back you can take your break.
8) (stamps passport) Okay you're good to go.
Me : (DEEP Exhale)

The only thing that makes em a bit curious is that he stamped my passport. This is the first time in my travels that a cbp officer has stamped my passport except for last august when I was given an I-94 at the couts/sweetgrass crossing. He wrote in B2 but did not put in a "must be back by date" and also did not give me an i-94. Is it customary to stamp canadian passports now just for fun?

Congrats on making it! The stamp thing, usually happens at airport POEs, I have gotten a few at Pearson. But it's only sometimes, I don't know why they stamp it sometimes and don't other times.

I definately think people should take their shoes off, but it doesn't drive me crazy either. Then again, it's not like we know anyone here, so people aren't tramping through the door every day.

Question for those who don't normally take their shoes off. There is always that thing where someone (in this case Jill) says that Canadians are used to taking off their footwear because of the snow/wet etc.

America is also, generally, covered in snow all winter - so what do you do in that case, do you come in from the snow with your shoes or boots still on?

It's safe to say most of Canada is covered in snow all winter, not most of America! I'd say there are more states that don't get snow than ones that do. Even here in Philly, it's the northeast yet rarely snows here. Maybe twice per winter there is a "storm" but it's like an inch of snow

CanadaWearing shoes in the house?
At my in-laws, they always say I can keep my shoes on when I go over, but I won't do it! It may also be a Canadian thing because of our winters, perhaps we get so used to having to take them off due to the wet and snow on them, we can't wear them in the home. Maybe that's how it started!

Jill, if I come visit, I promise I'll take my shoes off... just 'cuz I can say I "know" ya! smile.gif

I must add, that if I am at someone's home and I am quite familiar with the people/family, I'm okay with taking off my shoes. Just really uncomfortable in new situations/environments where I need to take them off. blush.gif

laughing.gif Thank you my dear! LOL When Glen came to visit my apt for the first time, he was clueless about shoe removal. So he walks in, saunters over to the couch with his sneakers on. It had been raining, so he tracked in some wet leaves and there were spots on the floor. I literally stared at him for a moment, like what is wrong with you? It was almost a dealbreaker, haha then I told him right away he had to take them off in my home and also in my parents when we went over! He proceeded to run to the kitchen for paper towels to wipe it off the floor. Now, he is so used to it that even at homes around here he takes them off, I taught him well good.gif

Had Timbits this morning and then had sushi for lunch. I was in heaven, as the closest sushi place to where we live is about an hour away or so. Hubby stocked up on ketchup chips and all dressed chips and was ecstatic to find his favorite brand, Old Dutch. Sadly, I could not find winegums anywhere sad.gif Are they not popular in Quebec? I thought I had bought some there before, but now that I think about it, we might have actually been in Montreal (as opposed to the small towns in the Eastern Townships that we visited this trip).
