Pork chops for hubby, salsa and bean cakes for me with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Here is the recipe for salsa and bean cakes if anyone is interested, they are really, really yummy and I eat them plain not on a bun!! They are crisp on the outside and soft in the middle!!

1 can red kidney beans, drained
1 cup crushed corn tortilla chips (I use multigrain)
1/2 cup salsa
1 egg, fork beaten

Mash beans with fork in medium bowl. Add remaining 3 ingredients, stir well. Shape into 6 patties to fit buns. Heat large greased frying pan on medium. Add patties. Cook for about 5 minutes per side until browned and heated through.

It's an absolute piece of cake.

You can get a breadmaker at Walmart for like $50 and give it a whirl!!

CanadaPeople who refer to a father figure as "daddy"
QUOTE (thetreble @ May 20 2009, 12:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Now, I've found it quite common here for adult women to refer to their dad as "daddy". It strikes me as very peculiar for many reasons. One being that it seems a childish thing to say and also because in our world today, it also has a sexual connotation.

Any way, my boss refers to her husband to her kids as daddy. Do any of you think this is all weird?

My dad is called as follows:

DAD or DA (Scottish thing)

It does? I've never heard it in that way...

I'll admit to using the word Daddy now and again, it's usually just Dad or Pops, but if I'm sucking up I say Daddy, my stepmom hates it. She says I sound like a baby, which I may just do but I really don't care laughing.gif

yea the reviews are nice for me to see how the embassy works and things like that what to expect but im kinda lookin for more tip like things, what kinda stuff to wear what to carry my papers in etc or things that people encountered an having a tip for a way to get around it or things like that!

What to wear - whatever you want, you won't be denied based upon your wardrobe! I just wore capris and a tank with sandals, as it was in July.

Make sure your papers are all organized, so when they ask you for them you don't have to fumble looking. When you get in the elevator, it opens from the REAR!!

Get there before 7am, if possible as that's when the line starts and if you want to get out early it's "first come first serve"

Good luck!

They did ask me what street my fiancees parents lived on, which was a bit odd but I knew the answer anyway.

CanadaSome important questions involving my Kamloops Bride to be
This is just a suggestion, that many of K-1ers do.... When the K-1 is activated, you can have a simple civil ceremony to make it legal in the US. After AOS is approved, why not have your wedding in Canada then? You will already be legally married, and won't have to worry about any repercussions. Many people do the civil ceremony and the party a year or so later.

Oh and one word of advice: NEVER, EVER LIE!! I see you asked "Should we lie" the answer is NO! If you get caught lying to a border guard you can get in big trouble.

50% of marriages don't end in divorce because the two people haven't spent enough time together.

They end in divorce because either they can't work it out or they don't want to work it out.

You keep bringing that 50% thing up... it could happen to any one of us.

So true. While I would love to say I will be with my hubby forever and ever amen, I can't say 100% it will happen. Why? Because I cannot see into the future, 20-30 years down the road. I would like to think I will be, but things happen and you just never, ever know. Some couples I thought would be together forever get a divorce and it shocks me, not really anymore though.

We used to visit every 3-8 weeks, depending on flights and our schedules. We hadn't done an 8 week stretch in at least 3 years or so before I moved.

We used to talk pretty much every night for about an hour give or take. Once I started working, we talked a bit less because usually I was exhausted because my commute was long and my job was intense.

We did this for almost 6 years... crazy now that it's over! I feel much more well rested now and my hearing has improved! Yay.

You have to admit - we're all pretty lucky. When I read through other forums on this topic <<<<SHUDDER>>>> and see how infrequently couples actualy talk - I don't know how they can form any kind of real relationship. I always want to say something, but it just comes out judgemental.

And we all know no matter how much we talked and interacted - the actual move makes us homesick and crazy some days too.

Just a random thought

So true, because if you only see your SO one or two times before moving and marriage, I just wonder HOW well you really know that person? Then I see all those posts "I'm getting a divorce" because they didn't actually know them at all.

It was around once every 4-6 weeks for us.... The longest we went was the last visit before I moved, he came to see me in Sept. and I moved in Nov, we were trying to save money too. But we also talked on the phone nightly for 1-2 hours, we never went one day without speaking on the phone our entire LD relationship

Wow, I'm really excited that I get to be American in a few years. I love Canada, don't get me wrong, but the US has always had a strange draw for me. I started following American politics when I was 12, and American history shortly after, its always fascinated me. I have my own copy of the Federalist papers, and I've read "Democracy in America" twice laughing.gif In my 3rd year American Government class I ended up correcting the prof several times... He wasn't even an American. No country is perfect, and the US is certainly not void of its flaws, but there are many flaws within Canadian government and the Canadian democracy I certainly don't agree with either. Looking back, its very strange I ended up meeting and falling in love with an American... That certainly wasn't part of my plan. If I had never met Bill I would have lived in Canada my whole life, but things happen for a reason...

Perhaps its easier for me to say this considering I've never actually LIVED in the US. I let you know if I feel the same way next year, after living and adapting to the American way! laughing.gif

So you will be an American? That is how you will identify yourself?

Interesting - I never would and I am a dual citizen from birth. I don't know that I had a strong sense of 'Canadianess' until I started researching my ancestors (to document my U.S. citizenship).

They loved Canada and I saw it the way they saw it and I read about how hard they worked to live there - it was tough going back in the day smile.gif

The other difference I find is the 'state of mind' in the U.S. What does not having a universal healthcare system say about a country as a whole, for instance.

It's just different.

I agree, even when I come to that point and become a US Citizen I will never, ever declare myself or consider myself as American - well except at border crossings LOL!! I will always be Canadian!
