Edmonton gets hot, but it's not a humid, sticky heat like down south. Alot of homes in Edmonton don't even have A/C, as they don't need it. If it's hot in the day, it cools down by night.

Last night was Mel's first experience with an earthquake. She had laid down to take a 1 hour nap at about 7:30 p.m., and at about 8:30, the earthquake hit. It wasn't a real big one, only 5.0. But I was sitting at our big desk and had to hold her monitor so it didn't fall. I ran into the other room and she looks up at me and asks "Was that an earthquake, or did a truck hit our apartment?". She wasn't too frazzled, but Stewie (our chihuahua) certainly was.

I head "the big one" is coming to LA someday.... it will happen sooner or later, sounds scary!

I don't get it.

My brother was dating a former Miss Georgia winner whose in law school with him now. He said they really got along and he liked her a lot. They're both on Facebook and from the tons of comments she's left -- and continues to leave -- it's very obvious she really likes him, if not more.

So what does he do? He stopped dating her. He said he didn't "have time for a relationship right now." That seems like a poor excuse. If he doesn't want to date her, that's fine, but to blame it on a "lack of time?"

I told my wife this and she thought he should pursue the relationship. I do too. It's not our decision, but it seems to us that he had a good thing going on there and called it off for less-than-honest reasons.

"He's just not that into her"! Haven't you all seen that movie or read the book? laughing.gif Trust me, if he was into her, no matter HOW busy, he'd make the time.

I taught my first class last night. No, I'm not a teacher or professor, but I'm volunteering at the local community center to instruct people on how to use computers.

It was great! I felt like everyone learned something and they really seemed to like me and my instruction. Even better, the volunteer coordinator was highly impressed. That means I'm likely to get a very good reference out of this and in the meantime, actually get some people to use and understand computers (to some degree, anyway).

Many of these individuals are older and have little-to-no knowledge of computers at all. For instance, there was one woman in my class that didn't know what a mouse was and had to be shown how to use it. Maybe that seems incredible nowadays, but apparently not impossible.

So anyway... I teach "Introduction to Computers" (a general overview course), "Introduction to the Internet" and "Introduction to Digital Imaging."

That's good stuff! The reference will be good plus you're helping people too!

No that's true, they are really good for you in small portions.

I know that some people think if you wrap a piece of bacon in a lettuce leaf it makes it a diet item - but these salads were salads like I have never seen - then again I have never seen a salad with 5-6 pieces of bacon on it and 5-6 pieces of chicken and walnuts anddddddd - but maybe that's common laughing.gif

I think it's common in the US! I went to this restaurant called Chickie and Petes, the menu was all fried stuff, I swear there was not ONE healthy item on the menu. Well these salads on display - one of them has at least 5 strips of bacon on it and maybe 7 largish pieces of chicken - and they have things like nuts etc. Who would not know that they are going to contain a bunch of calories??

What is the M&J show? I think alot of people assume if it's a "salad" even though it's loaded with meat, cheese, high fat dressing, it must be healthy since it's labeled a salad!
