Just because its there doesn't mean you have to drink it. Get yourself a Nalgene bottle and fill it up with water and drink that instead. Easy peasy biggrin.gif

I grew up in Ontario my entire life, I'm 41 years old, and Cream Soda to me has always been red/pink. We called it Red Pop when I was a kid. I don't think I've ever seen clear cream soda, at Becker's or any other store.

As to the HFCS argument/article, sugar is sugar. See the one posted by Emancipation. I will attest to sugar withdrawl symptoms! When I started doing Atkins and went cold turkey off of sugar, I had about 3 days of withdrawl. Others have complained of withdrawl symptoms for up to 2 weeks! (depends on how much sugar you used to eat in a day). And if you learn to read food labels, sugar is not just listed as sugar, but as 4 or 5 other things as well, all just in one product! There is so much hidden sugar in our diets that most of us have no clue what we're eating anymore.

Now that I'm off all sugars (except the naturally occuring in foods), and the withdrawl is gone, I don't even miss it. It would be nice though if people would stop trying to stuff cookies and cakes in my face, with the "aw c'mon its The Holidays!" tongue.gif No thank you. I'd rather have broccoli biggrin.gif

Hire a lobbiest to hit Washington then. But apparently the HFCS proponents already have, judging by the rencent commercials on TV.

Personally I hate the stuff, and nothing DPX says will change that. I see absolutely NO reason it should be added to simply everything, and yes, it DOES change the taste and texture of foods. Why the hell does it need to be added to dill pickles, or mayonaise or rice krispies or or or? bah....

Linens 'n' Things is going out of business and everything is on sale of course. I saw on their website they have a yogurt maker for $23.99, so I might check out the store in Hickory on the weekend to see what the store price is. it may be less, who knows. At least I won't have to pay shipping.

I think it had a lot to do with my weight gain as well, but I also had/have a thyroid disease that gave me a lot of problems, so I dunno. My doctor says I shouldn't have gained as much as I did, just from the thyroid problem, so I'll blame the rest of it on HFCS wink.gif

Yeah, I've noticed a lack of yogurt flavours here too with Danone Activia has a lot more flavours in Canada and the UK, but here they only have 4 flavours. Vanilla, Peach (yuck), blue berry and strawberry. They have rhubarb flavour in the UK! I LOVE rhubarb flavour! And in the big containers, they only have Vanilla. The big containers are cheaper and less waste. I'd like more than just vanilla though.

Weight Watchers yogurt has a lot of flavours though, and Yoplait (I don't particularly like Yoplait though for some reason I've not quite been able to pinpoint). And a couple of store brands have a lot of flavours.

The "Light" versions do not contain HFCS, but they use artificial sweeteners like Splenda or aspartame instead.

I've been thinking of buying a yogurt maker and just making my own. Its actually cheaper. If I just had some more counter space for another appliance!

You're welcome smile.gif I noticed it a couple of weeks ago when Food Lion here had it on sale twofer. A couple of the "discount" (Fred's, Dollar General etc.) stores carry it here too, maybe check some of those around you.

Again though, sometimes the store brands will cost less and also don't have HFCS in them, just plain ol' sugar.

Hubby thinks I'm crazy, and sometimes a single grocery trip can take over an hour because I'm reading all the labels, but I just can't stand the stuff. Sometimes though, you just have to break down and give in. I can't find any tomato soup without it in, and I can't afford the shipping costs from Canadian Favourites. I also haven't been able to get home in over a year, and I don't think anyone is coming to visit any time soon tongue.gif

HFCS is the bane of my existence. I can't drink my favourite Ocean Spray juice because there's too much added ####### to it, and if I want it "lite" -- well, shall I have chemical sweetener with my 100% juice?????? Blah! The damn stuff is in everything and it drives me nuts. mad.gif

Ocean Spray is now HFCS free. Check the front label. yes.gif

Why did Sask get brought up? Personally I know it is the best province, but I rather keep it a secret and keep the population to a million, lol

I have a few friends who are from Saskatchewan, and one drunken evening we figured the world revolution theory.

Plus, its the easiest province to draw, (far easier than Ontario that's for sure!), so I think we're on to something wink.gif

Well if the rest of the country is so concerned with the amount of power Ontario has, perhaps they should just pick up and move to the other side of the country, join forces with the Maritimers and Newfoundland and then overpower Ontario and just quit whinging tongue.gif

Sheesh, Ontario can't help it that the population is higher there than in prairie and western provinces, now can they? Nor can Ontario help it that Alberta is the bible belt of the country, and that easterners (including Quebecers!) tend to be a lot more Liberal, and liberal, than them! Why hate Ontario for being liberal? For chrissakes, Alerberta's right next door to the (formerly) Socialist province of Saskatchewan! Birthplace of universal healthcare! (the world revolves around Saskatchewan yanno, just check their clocks next time all the rest of us have to switch to day light savings...their clocks don't have to change!).

I'm thinking of getting Canadian citizenship simply so I'll never have to deal with the government again in that capacity. Of course, when that time comes around, I'll have to be extra careful that the government spells my name right. Apparently, they can't be bothered to correct it.

One thing about Canadian immigration however is that if you gained your LPR status thru marriage, and if you move to another country, but remain living with and married to your Canadian spouse, you do not lose your Canadian LPR. So you could move back to the US for a couple years if you wanted, and easily return to Canada with no hassle.

The US does not reciprocate this policy however. tongue.gif

You can have 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or or or if you want. My Aunt has 3. UK, Canada and US. There used to be a lady here at VJ who had 6, and was working on US for the 7th.

Again, if you want to keep up with all those passports, its up to you. And if the countries you're getting citizenship in allow multiples, what's to stop you? Some countries however do not allow dual or multi-citizenships.
RebaFemale02008-11-27 08:09:00
CanadaDual Citizenship?
Here is the Oath of Allegience:

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

In some cases, USCIS allows the oath to be taken without the clauses:

". . .that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by law. . ."

bold my emphasis to point out this is the specific line that gives most people the idea that they can't be dual citizen with the US. But as others have pointed out, Canada does not recognize this verbal renunciation, and the US for the moment does not enforce it, so technically you can have more than one citizenship with the US. You can have a dozen or more if the countries allow it and if you want the hassle of all those passports tongue.gif

Not everyone can actually say the oath however, without their fingers crossed, so its totally up to you. wink.gif

Canadaontario license plates renewal???
You would need an address to give to the license office for your plates for them to send you a new registration. They will also want to change your drivers license to the new address. My vehicle was in Canada at first when I was here and my mother was driving it, she went and put in a change of address and got my new sticker and they also sent her a new Ontario drivers license for me with the new address. Once I got here I have licensed it in the US.

When do your Ontario plates expire?

You were right in VA it is just to give them your Canadian one and get a VA one. Although they are very strict on the documentation they will accept in order to do the exchange. I am sure you will do fine on your driving portion since you did on your written.

rae not sure if you will read this before Monday, but I don't think it can hurt to ask them for a copy of the form. I wanted a copy because I can't prove I had my vaccinations without it(and since the immigration doctor gave me my boosters he knew what I needed, and btw he did it for free the vaccination which I thought was great since I know if I had of gone to Toronto it would have cost me $175 for the shot) and I thought it would be good to have for my doctor here. Best of luck and I hope that the Consulate gives it to you, and if not I wouldn't stress about it just enjoy your visit with your soon to be husband in a wonderful city. Have a great train ride and relax so you are refreshed when Scott picks you up. And don't forget to post after your interview we will be here waiting ALL day until we hear, no pressure lol.

When the doctor filled out my vacination (I had him give me my boosters as I knew I needed them and had no vacination records) he gave me 2 copies of it and told me I could make copies of them. Absolutely on the xray I took mine because I was sure I would get asked if I didn't have it. I bet they wait and if you don't have it then they ask for it, sick sense of humour I am thinking.

Have a great trip to Montreal and a great interview on Monday rae_and_scott and and Melusine have a great interview on Wednesday. Best of luck to you both even though you won't need it.

The xray is big when you think you have to cart it with you, I thought it was too. It is about 12 by 18 and like I said I didn't put it in a suitcase was so paranoid something might happen to it so held onto it all the way from Toronto to Montreal on the train lol.

And for the record I had to redo my medical and they don't do xray here they do a skin test so it is sitting in my closet lol.
