CanadaLocal Police Certificate or RCMP?
all I know is that when I got the letter from Montreal, they were very specific in stating the police check had to be from the RCMP. then again, that was a few years ago. *shrug*

I got my NOA-2 on December 8 and I'm looking at hopefully October the month you are planning for your wedding as the time for my interview. You would have better luck going through Vancouver

Vancouver is really cracking down on case transfers, so methinks they are stuck with Montreal.

CanadaHealth Insurance
Blue Cross / Blue Shield have a really bad reputation in my neck of the woods, so many people avoid that company at all costs.

Just to give some perspective, my friend's husband went to work for a company that didn't cover health insurance for him, so they did continuance coverage through the COBRA act, they had to pay upwards of $1000 a month for his diabetes supplies and medication, it was brutal until he got a different job six months later.

Health care and the whole insurance thing here frustrates me to no end here, because you are constantly finding out later on how much your insurance doesn't pay. We were still getting bills for various parts of my gall bladder surgery 4-5 months after the fact. Fortunately, my husband gets paid very well and we (with some scrimping and saving, mind you) were able to take of them. But what if we weren't in that position where we couldn't pay? There's a reason why they are saying now that upwards of 50% of bankruptcies these days are caused by medical bill debt! It's atrocious.

I guess I'm one of the old-timers, so here goes.....

My name is a natural extension of my old initials, CAS. smile.gif

Jerry and I met in a chatroom. He asked if Nova Scotia was close to Germany (long story!), I jokingly called him a dumb Yankee who didn't pay attention in geography class (continuation of said long story), and love was born. laughing.gif laughing.gif He knew pretty quickly that I was it for him, I took a little longer to convince. wink.gif We found VisaJourney one day after getting supremely frustrated talking to 1-800-misinformation, and I haven't left. wink.gif We were very fortunate in that we managed to hit TSC and Montreal during speed-up times in their history, so I entered the US on Nov 1 and we got married on Nov 7th, 5 months after we started the process. The AOS process went quick too, but this lifting conditions thing is gonna take awhile. We live in Tulsa with our furry kid, Moses. I still hang out here in the hopes that I can provide some support to my fellow Canuckians. smile.gif

Since you don't know me, don't judge me....I'm happy I'm not an automaton like you must be....grinning all the time and pretending that the world is soooooo perfect and that everyone should be happy and never say anything negative......I wish you well in your fantasy land

Oh, for Pete's sake, harley, you don't like the Hip, that's fantastic, good for you. I don't like Rush, Tim Horton's coffee, - see, I can be honest and un-PC too! The difference between you and me is that I don't think a Canadian posse is gonna come knocking on my door demanding to retract my opinion!

Seriously, I have yet to encounter a "you can't post / start a topic / dare enter the Canadian forum if you don't absolutely positively love hockey / Tim Horton's / curling / Canadian Tire / uniquely Canadian bands / all things Canadian" mentality in this forum, not sure where you got that idea. It just happens that a lot of people posting here like a lot of the typical stuff (ie. Timmy's). You have different tastes, welcome to humanity.

*sigh* I am SO JEALOUS of you Stacey!!!! Das Hip are awesome awesome awesome live!!!!

I saw them play in Halifax, and our seats were to the left of the stage, up a smidge, with a perfect view of my boy, Johnnie Fay. blush.gif They were in the middle of their first encore, and all of a sudden Johnnie gets up and leaves the stage, while Gordie was riffing on something, and he's gone for a good five minutes, but gets back right on time to start in where he was supposed to when the song starts back up again. I always wonder what he was doing....!

But I digress. Love love love the Hip and I miss their concerts so much. Gotta convince them to come to OK!

After it expires, and u go back to canada, ur on ur own!! Ur USA medical coverage should cover it, but best to check with ur USA provider. As a non-resident of canada, ur not entitled to "free" medicare. Your no longer paying taxes to Canada, so that makes sense!!

Thanks Flames, that does make sense smile.gif

Yeppers, I went to the emergency room on Boxing Day 2006 with a gall bladder attack and I couldn't get looked at until we ponied up $400. And then I received another bill a couple weeks later for another $400. blink.gif

Once you are no longer a resident of Canada, it's no more free health care for you!
CassieFemaleCanada2007-11-01 20:37:00
CanadaPrice comparisons...
My aunt made my veil with crystals sprinkled throughout it. I think we paid $10 for the tulle and not much more for the crystals. It looked just like the $175 model in the bridal shop.

Never ever buy your accessories at the bridal shop -- the prices are always hyper-inflated.

As far as the photographer is concerned -- we paid $600 for a husband/wife photo/video team (we got the video fee free in barter for Jerry working on their website). The video turned out fantastic, but we were a bit disappointed with the pictures she took. Fortunately, I had bought film for my brother, who is an amazing photographer, and he took black and white pictures of the ceremony (which I wanted badly), and pictures of the whole weekend. Worked out for us!

I got a bank letter, stating how much money is in his account and when the account was open.(he had a hard time getting this letter, cause the bank teller was stupid lol)
I got the last 3 years of income tax statements.
A letter from his employer, stating how much he made, his position, hrs a week, and when he was 1st employed.
A letter of intent.(saying hes still free and willing to marry me)

Remember to make copies of everything. Give them the originals from the bank, employer and letter of intent. They are happy with a copy of the income tax, as long as you have the original, or copy of the original.

Mary

All of this list pertains to the Affadavit of Support form, which your fiance will have to fill out and sign as well. smile.gif

If your fiance has any original evidence of your relationship (letters, etc you have sent, pictures, etc) -- you may want to consider having them send it to you to have on hand. You never know what the officer may ask.

^^ You'll only have a Canadian Passport until you become a U.S. Citizen. So even as a Permanent Resident, you'll have to keep renewing your Canadian passport I believe.

that is correct! I use my Canadian passport to get into Canada and my green card when I enter the US. And you can keep your Canadian passport if you still plan to be a Canadian citizen.

QUOTE (flames9 @ Nov 5 2007, 05:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
the form is NR 73 and NO you do not HAVE to fill it out. I never did. When you file your 2007 taxes with revenue canada, there is a spot on the first page that ask the date you became or CEASED to be a Cdn resident. put the date in when you entered the USA!! Some have filled out the NR 73, some don't. My attitude is if they wanted it, they would contact me and tel lme to fill it out. Why fil out more paperwork if you do not have to!!

Time for me to chime in as I always do on this topic, hey flames?? wink.gif

When I went to file my 2005 Canadian taxes (through a Canadian CPA firm that I had dealt with for years), they weren't allowed to file my taxes until I had filled out said form. So I did. And got my tax refund, and a separate letter stating that in Revenue Canada's eyes, I am no longer a Canadian resident. I didn't have a clue about this form, just heard about it when the CPA called me.
