CanadaGuys...
I took a copy of the letter NVC sent Jerry stating that my case has been forwarded on to the consulate (which also had my Montreal case number on it), and also a print-out of my status online showing that the I-129f had been approved. The receptionist didn't ask for it, but that office in particular wasn't one that required a package 3 letter to be seen.

Edited to add: if you have a package 3 letter, you should be ok, methinks.

(((((((((((Laura))))))))))))))) Congratulations hon...it's almost over! *sigh* Joel and I were talking about his interview and those last few days before he flew here for the last time...it's, well, wonderful...awesome...incredible...those words barely touch the way we both felt that day. It's one of those priceless moments. smile.gif

Best wishes hon, to you and Nick. rose.gif

All I can think about is the feeling I had when I was walking away from the consulate with my visa in hand (that was back in the day when they were issued same day). People walking by me must have thought I was on something really good. whistling.gif

Yeah, lawyers are great. wacko.gif The problem is, there have been enough people that have followed the path suggested by him that have gotten away with it that it seems like good advice. It really isn't.

There are pros and cons to going with either the fiance or spousal visa. You will have decide what the two of you are more comfortable with and go with it. We're here to help you along and support you -- we know what you are going through smile.gif

your lawyer is clueless... lol

Indeed. A ten minute search of the timelines here would prove that what she has been saying to you in these emails is utter #######, on a number of different points. And there is "no attempting to change" anything, NVC will automatically ship it to the right consulate! And if by some small chance they do mess it up, all it takes is a phone call or an email to Montreal and they will immediately recognize that it goes to Vancouver and immediately ship it there! How the heck does she not know this???

And I am with flames, that last email was all attitude with a capital A. I personally wouldn't stand for that.
CassieFemaleCanada2008-05-28 13:50:00
CanadaTransfer from Montreal to Vancouver?
Your attorney is completely wrong! Since your fiance lives in Vancouver, and you are filing for a fiance visa, your case will automatically be sent to Vancouver when California is finished with it and forwards it on. If you were married and filing for a spousal visa, that's when Montreal would come into play for you.

Personally, I worry for you, in that your attorney did not know one of the basics in this process. Is he/she familiar with dealing with US immigration?

Canadaproof of relationship - what's required?
QUOTE (erinanddavid @ May 24 2008, 05:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
for those of you who have gone through the K1 process and been interviewed in montreal, what sort of things did they ask to see as proof of your relationship? photographs should be easy for us, but do they need to see phone records from both the USC and beneficiary? emails? anything else? or is it based more on the questions asked and whether or not you can answer them?

we're having some issues getting our phone records together on both sides (i have mine, david kinda sorta has something but has 3 phone numbers and it's getting messy...). i'd prefer not to make a big deal out of it if it's not worth the stress and they really aren't required from both sides.

thanks!

happy memorial day weekend for those of you who are celebrating it! for those of us who are not, hope you're somewhere sunny and warm. it's beautiful in toronto today smile.gif

I took a pile of stuff, organized into packets:

evidence of engagement : ring receipts, congratulations cards and emails from family and friends, pictures from that day, etc

evidence of trips to see each other: 4 trips in total. I had pictures, itineraries, emails r/t trips, boarding passes, etc. I also had added stuff from when Jerry and his parents came up for our wedding shower as a surprise, like pictures of all of us (both sets of parents and us) together.

evidence of ongoing relationship: a sample of emails, letters, phone call printouts, etc

I never had to show any of it, but it's nice to have on hand in case. I did get questioned about whether or not we had met each other's parents, and I was going to pull out the pictures to prove it, but I didn't have to. Even though I didn't have to show my evidence, it was nice to go through and organize it all the night before and remind myself of why I was doing this. smile.gif

One guy that had his interview the same days as I told me how the officer asked him about the relationship he had with his fiance's young son -- had he met the child, etc etc. He whipped out pictures of them together at an amusement park, hanging out, etc., which satisfied the officer and he got the visa.

CanadaDealing with home sickness...
Don't feel bad about missing home, it's perfectly normal. You have uprooted yourself from completely familiar and moved to completely unfamiliar!

I think we Canadians think that "oh, we know so much about the US because we are neighbors and we get their TV stations and we go there on vacations and its kinda the same as us" and figure it won't be all that different......when in actuality, for the first year (or two or three) all we think about is what is not the same! And it's a pretty big list!

What has helped me has been to keep in touch with my family and local news online on a daily basis, take trips home once or twice a year, and to be open and honest with my hubby about how I am feeling -- he's great about thinking of ideas to help me if I am going through a rough patch. If anything it helps him to be prepared about how he will feel if/when we move back to Canada.

Canadaport of entry question...
QUOTE (stephandmuz @ Jun 1 2008, 07:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello everyone...

I have a quick question. Muz and I made entry into the states from Canada on Thursday(We drove across into couts Montana). Our experience was absolutely horrible. We were treated as if we were common criminals by a female border patrol guard. I'll write more about our experience when I have more time.

Our concern is this...

After Muz's visa was activated, I ask the guard what exactly would happen to the packet that the consulate had given muz. (the white packet that was habded over at the border)

The guard stated that the packet would sat there at the port of entry. I was schocked. I was under the impression that it would be sent to our local office? california service center? Anywhere but being kept there?

what exactly happens to the packet that is surrenedered at the border? If it does end up staying at the port of entry, what will happen when we go to adjust status?

Thanks

Steph and Muz

It's supposed to be forwarded on to your service centre, if I remember correctly.

CanadaPuppy dog from Can. to US
I flew my 10 year old dog here with us when we flew to the US from Nova Scotia. I think I paid 80 for her from Halifax to Atlanta. She was really good. I did get her rabbie shot and got the vet to fill out the vaccine cert for her, but I was never asked for any of it.

They never knew there was a dog in my carry on till I got thru customs in Boston....lol. I had her in a dog carrier but I guess they just thought it was my carry on bag. Never asked me for one piece of paper, but make sure you take it with you. Really just need that shot and a record saying your dog is in good health.

Good luck with your trip.

I have seen Candians on here that entered the US and not activated their K-1.

Just bring lots of ties to Canada and I think you should be fine.

I think your still allowed to fly into the US from Canada using BC and Picture ID. I thought they changed the date of having to fly using a passport until next year. Maybe I am wrong.

Yes, do keep your x-ray intact as I believe you will need it in the U.S. for the AOS.

Do ask at a hospital for ones they may throw away to play with. Hee hee.

Most hospitals these days put your x-rays on CD so it looks like someone is getting a mini-frisbee for Christmas. smile.gif

aye, but Montreal (at least when I went through) does not want x-rays on CD, it had to be on film.

Roll the x-ray up (no creasing!), put it in a cardboard tube, and take it with you just in case. Because I am the type to be overprepared, I took mine with me. Still have it actually! Better to be safe than sorry, IMHO.

I don't think that MTL has the equipment to look at CD x-rays, after all they still haven't figured out how to use a telephone (whatever that is). smile.gif The x-ray is done by the panel physician and I don't know of any that use a hospital with CD x-ray records, all of them do the lab work in diagnostic clinics which still use film.

Flames9, you only took two copies of your documents, boy do you like to live on the edge. laughing.gif

I dunno, the panel physician I went to in Halifax specifically told me to tell the X-ray records department NOT to put mine on CD and print it on film. *Dunno*

CanadaLocal Police Certificate or RCMP?

So just to make sure I have this straight - I've been living in Toronto for the last 5 years and was planning on getting my police check done here BUT I lived in Hamilton for the 5 years before that. Do I need to get one done from both Toronto and Hamilton or will Toronto be Canada-wide and suffice?

Thanks!

A Canada-wide name check done in Toronto will be sufficient. :)

CanadaLocal Police Certificate or RCMP?

If you look at the police check that I added in my earlier post, it does say it's from the RCMP..

and I went to the commisionaires station in markham to do it.. =)

right, because in some places the commissionaires take care of it for the RCMP. Where I lived, there is no such thing as the commissionaires, only RCMP or the local police precinct.
CassieFemaleCanada2007-07-13 12:06:00
CanadaLocal Police Certificate or RCMP?
all I know is that when I got the letter from Montreal, they were very specific in stating the police check had to be from the RCMP. then again, that was a few years ago. *shrug*

I got my NOA-2 on December 8 and I'm looking at hopefully October the month you are planning for your wedding as the time for my interview. You would have better luck going through Vancouver

Vancouver is really cracking down on case transfers, so methinks they are stuck with Montreal.
