From what I understand CSC tend to just ignore returned K1's. VSC will review more frequently review the petition after a hideous time. If they review and agree with the consulate you have to refute it. If they agree that you have a valid relationship the will reinstate their approval and resend it. If you cancel your petition it tends to be entered into the database like the conulate was right and your SO has a misrepresentation flag to fight also.

This is why it's so important to hire a local Manila attorney to keep the case in Manila. Otherwise you are looking at a very long time before know anything more than you know now. Get that detailed interview report as soon as possible and get the attorney hired, even if you have to go there to do it.

Pushbrk, when you mention a detailed interview report, is the interview recorded in any fashion? Or is the report just the hand written notes taken by the interviewer? I just ask because I wish to have preparations also for a worst case scenario, and hope to not need it. Such as a local lawyers number, my politicians numbers, etc. Does the fiancee have somewhat immediate access to the report? Or do we need to have someone request this for us?

IndiaWorried about the Mumbai Interview
Agree with the previous posters. Shouldn't be an issue but if it does come up -- usually in the form of "Have you ever been denied a US visa before? Why? -- just answer truthfully.

IndiaAnyone ever had trouble with the Big brown envelope ?
I carried it inside my laptop bag, in one of the zipped compartments.

Before boarding the flight in New Delhi, they inspected my visa (CR1) and then asked to see my 'visa file' -- I figured he must mean the 'POE envelope' after some initial confusion. I handed it to the official, ready to scream BLOODY MURDER if he showed any urge to open it but he just inspected it, made sure it was sealed and then told me that I was good to go.

I wasn't aware I was throwing a 'hissy fit.' I would probably find this 'funny' if I were watching a stand-up comedian at a comedy club. I'd probably even laugh a few times. But 'context' is important.

To me, this article is not befitting TIME magazine and, in my eyes, they have lost a lot of credibility by printing this article. This isn't The Onion.

IndiaJoel Stein: My Own Private India
"Eventually, there were enough Indians in Edison to change the culture. At which point my townsfolk started calling the new Edisonians "dot heads." One kid I knew in high school drove down an Indian-dense street yelling for its residents to "go home to India." In retrospect, I question just how good our schools were if "dot heads" was the best racist insult we could come up with for a group of people whose gods have multiple arms and an elephant nose."

THIS is where it becomes evident he is a racist imbecile even if he was 'funny' in the beginning.

I usually have a good sense of humor about these sorts of things but I didn't think this article was funny. It's offensive, disrespectful and I'm surprised that TIME even printed it.

1. Police certificate from local police station.
2. Certificate from passport issuing RPO -- comes with an accompanying stamp in the passport.

IndiaAnyone born in India ? about your birth certificate
Eeee. I have a birth certificate completely in English issued by the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (those might be the only words that are also written in Bengali) that is now twenty-three years old, weathered and yellow and held together by tape. NVC accepted it without any issues.

IndiaIndians Will you take US citizenship?

Nope & nor can they hold government jobs. So technically still India doesn't allow dual citizenship.

That's what I thought as well. The word 'citizenship' in OCI is misleading and essentially, a misnomer, here. Thanks for clearing that up.

IndiaIndians Will you take US citizenship?
Yes, that's exactly how it works. You keep renewing your 10 year GC indefinitely. I know plenty of Indians who do that. Why on earth should the US government have a problem with it?
sachinkyFemaleIndia2010-07-07 21:09:00
IndiaIndians Will you take US citizenship?
I would only naturalize if and when India allows dual nationality. I will NOT surrender my Indian passport. It is an irrational sentiment, but that's how I feel. I remember when I was ten years old and I received my first passport and read the first page. "These are to request and require in the name of the President of the Republic of India all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance, and to afford him or her, every assistance and protection of which he or she may stand in need. -- By the order of the President of the Republic of India."

I still remember how how proud I felt at holding that booklet and how deeply I was touched that the President would show such profound concern for an ordinary citizen like me. Of course, I was a lot more naive back then.

I love the US, I have now been here for five years and I enjoy the time I spend with my husband. I know plenty of Americans I am proud to call friends. I'm grateful for the thirty-two flavors of ice-cream and buffalo wings with blue cheese that is available in the supermarket aisles. It is a beautiful country and I am happy to call it my home. But I doubt I'd ever feel American. Not now, not if I lived here for another twenty years.

Though the thought of naturalizing is tempting just to be done with USCIS. Of course, it would be a lot more convenient in terms of travelling but I cannot, in good conscience, swear an oath I don't truly believe in. To me, my flag and soil are sacred and I refuse to give that up.

There, that's my $0.02 on the subject.

IndiaChennai Interview - VFS Docs
You can print out the NVC appointment letter email -- that's your original interview letter.

Mumbai also sent me an interview letter by registered post -- I assume Chennai also does the same. It's ok if you don't receive it--no big deal. All the stuff in that packet is already on the website.

IndiaChennai Interview - VFS Docs
As BobbyK pointed out--that's what I had to submit to Calcutta VFS for a Mumbai interview.

For Chennai, you may simply pay the the courier fees and take everything to the interview. Some choose to submit their medical to VFS as well.

Good luck!

This time I flew Air India from Calcutta-Delhi-Frankfurt-Chicago. I quite enjoyed it. Food was decent. So was service.

I like Singapore Airlines and Jet Airways.

Do not like British Airways. I still don't get how a stale bun and a bar of chocolate is appropriate meal for a trans-Atlantic flight.

IndiaPCC question
For Calcutta too, the request had to be made to the SP. The clearance comes from IB. The actual home check is made by someone in your local police station serving your residence district.

Did your wife's PCC get sorted out?

I got mine from the Calcutta RPO in 4 working days. (8 days since request).

Add the local PCC, might help the process go faster.

IndiaPCC question
Is your wife from Calcutta? So am I. PCC from RPO should maximum take 1 month. Ask her to pursue relentlessly. I requested mine on Monday. They said it'll take 10-30 days.

IndiaPCC question
More than 6 months ago, you need a PCC from the RPO that issued the passport.
sachinkyFemaleIndia2009-10-23 10:32:00
IndiaPCC question
Baltar -- if you/your wife's passport is WITHIN the last 6 months (that is, it was issued after April 23) then you only need a PCC from the local police station. A passport obtained before 6 months will require a PCC from the regional passport office that issued the passport.

I was advised to first get the PS PCC and then submit that to the RPO. The second part will then take less time since they already have one, hopefully clean, PCC to go off of. Their enquiry will not take that much time then. Hope this helps.

IndiaPCC question
I think what kloveh is saying is true. That's what I've read as well. PCC's from EVERY place you've lived in for more than a period of 6 months after attaining the age of 16. The language is pretty specific. For me, it was okay. Because I lived in Calcutta since birth till age 18. Was in the U.S. for 4 years and now I'm back in Calcutta since June. Thankfully, they do their own police certification for residency within the U.S.

Indiano visits after marriage = denial of visa?
Not necessarily, it depends on the totality of circumstances and the other factors involved in each individual case. My husband and I didn't see each other for nine months after marriage and it wasn't an issue at our interview. I was alone at the interview and while the question was asked as to why he hadn't visited me after our wedding, my answer was accepted as sufficient.

Be warned, NWD is a b!tch consulate to deal with.

Sure smelled like it. Of course, by the time they got to my seat, they were all out of the non-veg items and I got stuck with some unrecognizable aloo-paneer-matar mash. Gah.

Instead of b!tchin' on VJ -- which is cathartic, no doubt, but kind of pointless -- you should use your (very valid) argument to convince your momma.

I married a white boy. My parents absolutely adore their gora jamai.

Give it a shot!
