United KingdomNaturalization wobbles
Do you know why naturalized citizens are ineligible to run for POTUS? Primarily, because of what Bob mentioned. Sounds a bit 'loony' but it's not. It is assumed that naturalized citizens do NOT feel the same allegiance towards the U.S. as a natural-born does and this becomes even more troubling in times of war. A naturalized USC (born in, say, Britain) POTUS isn't going to feel comfortable with the idea of bombing his hometown where he grew up, where he went to school. Where his sister and her family lives. It's why only natural born citizens are eligible to become POTUS. So that there is no troubling issue of 'dual allegiance' then. And no, this is not 'my opinion' -- this is political philosophy, and you can read it in a book written by smart people.

For me, these are the reasons I'd consider becoming a USC:

--Never have to deal with USCIS again. Seriously, who'd want to?
--Not have to worry about 'maintaining residency.' We'd love to live in India together for a few years and I want to be able to come and go as I like.
--Of course, this would only happen when India allows dual citizenship. I don't want to surrender my Indian passport--it's an irrational, sentimental reason and I can't explain it.

But that's precisely the reason. I love the U.S., I enjoy my time here. I love living here with my husband. I have a great many friends here who I consider very close. But I don't feel a strong, sentimental, unexplainable attachment to the U.S. as I do with India.

Just my two cents.

Hope you're able to make the 'right' decision -- whatever that may be for you!

I had to do a blood test for HIV. A sputum test for TB. And a chest x-ray.

I also had a full physical and 3 vaccinations.

United Kingdom12 Hour Layover => British Airways at Heathrow
Oh lord, the countless hours I've spent at Heathrow waiting for my connection to India. Agree with Justine about finding the handle-less chairs and taking a long nap. There's a really nice place at one corner that serves great food. I had a full English breakfast there a couple of times and it was awesome.

OOh, she should totally buy some Toblerone. I heart Toblerone and I always buy a big bar when I'm travelling through UK. The U.S. Toblerone sucks in comparison.

Couldn't you just repaint the bathroom if it's in a color you don't like? I hate that 'vomit green' color as much as the next person but I'm not going to cross off a potential house just because the bathroom's painted in an ugly color.

United KingdomHow to deal with the down time
I didn't see my husband for 9 months. He left 3 days after our wedding.

I cried. I cried everyday. Even though we're now together, I will never forget how awful those months were. I tried to keep myself busy and that helps a bit. I read a lot, took up a job, gave private tuitions to highschoolers. Bought a bunch of DVDs. Use retail therapy as a coping mechanism. Cooked five course dinners. Hung out with friends and cousins on the weekend. My husband and I talked everyday, we played bowling or chess on Skype. Wrote long emails. The 10 hour time difference was a b*tch, though.

I know how hard it is. I will never forget that. But know that you WILL be together. And when you do, all of those months of separation will just melt away. It's hard to stay positive, but your day will come.

United KingdomVisa process and relationship strain
We didn't 'fight' per se, but there was a lot of bickering about nothing it seemed. I'm good with paper-work, so I handled all of that. My husband is much more laid-back and I did get a bit short with him often. With the 10 hour time difference and my sleep pattern being horribly screwed up, I guess I was a lot crankier and yes, bitchier, than I normally am. I am eternally grateful that Mr. Sachinky put up with all my BS. I swear to God, I threw one right hissy fit when we got our I-864 RFE. We had a 'real life' relationship, for lack of a better word, in college where we were attached at the hip 24/7 (classes, writing papers, partying, grocery-shopping) so being separated for nearly a year post-marriage was very, very difficult. The not knowing and uncertainty hanging over our heads was stressful. I still think if someone had told me last June, when I left the US, that I'd be back in May, I'd be okay. The worst part was the 118 day wait for the NOA2, that really took the mickey outta me. Thinking it could come anyday, anytime really and then going to bed, crying in a fetal position took it's toll on me.

We were also very naive about this process, we thought that since I'd just been in the U.S. on a student visa (that is still valid, technically) and that I had a SSN and had paid taxes for four years would mean that it would be a quick, easy, breezy ride through. We also, idiotically, believed the Calcutta Consulate who told us that the entire process would merely take 3-4 months (and they don't even issue immigrant visas!). True, we did have a easy interview and everything was relatively hassle-free, appart from some last minute hiccups. I cannot even begin to imagine the plight of couples who have to endure APs, or long waiver-trials or are denied after months of time, money, and energy being invested into it.

But now that we are together again, all of that seems like a distant bad dream. I'm now much more thankful for the time I have with him and waking up in the morning next to him, eating chips and guacamole in bed while watching HGTV--normal, everyday stuff that I basically took for granted before. He had a huge car accident last week while on his way back from work -- I've never been more scared in my life. Or prayed any harder. Thankfully, he's okay now and we're together. I truly believe that all little stuff will fall into place once the Big Things are taken care of.

Got it, Darnell.

Ignore previous posts regarding VFS.

You mentioned that you're an Indian citizen WORKING in the U.K.--quite possible that they would ask you to produce your CV even though you're applying for a family based visa.

I studied in the U.S. for four years, therefore, I took all my scholarship letters, transcripts, degree, I-20. Everything I could possibly think of even though I was applying for a CR-1.

Have you faxed your CV yet?

United Kingdomvisa interview done but .....

thanks for that. I am really curious as they told me that they would contact me, if they do contact me saying your AP is complete and visa is approved then how can they send the visa through courier when I have not paid the courier fees on the interview day !! (they told me not to pay courier fees) are they going to send the passport with stamp through courier or do i have to go there and collect it??

You're a CR-1 going through Mumbai. You must've paid your DHL fees (400/- approx.) at VFS before your interview.

The Consulate will most likely contact you via email or phone in order to inform you when your AP is over.

You can also track your case status at DOS, I believe.

VFS did advise me to carry my CV and educational qualifications to my interview.

I carried everything I could possibly think of, had nearly 10 lbs of evidence and the CO didn't ask to see one damn thing but I think it's always better to be over prepared than under!

Hope your AP is resolved soon! Keep us posted, and hang in there!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusTo have Russian citizenship for US born children with Russian mother or not?
It's why a lot of people try and have their kids born on U.S. soil so that they claim citizenship. Now who's more American/or eligible to become President? Child of a Mexican couple who illegally snuck through the border to deliver that kid on U.S. soil or that above mentioned child of the American couple vacationing in Switzerland who happened to be born outside the country when the baby was delivered?

Food for thought.

From what I understand CSC tend to just ignore returned K1's. VSC will review more frequently review the petition after a hideous time. If they review and agree with the consulate you have to refute it. If they agree that you have a valid relationship the will reinstate their approval and resend it. If you cancel your petition it tends to be entered into the database like the conulate was right and your SO has a misrepresentation flag to fight also.

This is why it's so important to hire a local Manila attorney to keep the case in Manila. Otherwise you are looking at a very long time before know anything more than you know now. Get that detailed interview report as soon as possible and get the attorney hired, even if you have to go there to do it.

Pushbrk, when you mention a detailed interview report, is the interview recorded in any fashion? Or is the report just the hand written notes taken by the interviewer? I just ask because I wish to have preparations also for a worst case scenario, and hope to not need it. Such as a local lawyers number, my politicians numbers, etc. Does the fiancee have somewhat immediate access to the report? Or do we need to have someone request this for us?
