Graham's experience was the very first I have heard of this in all my time here so my guess is he got the oddball CO that really didn't know what he was talking about .....just like our luck really. Hopefully it wont effect anyone else. Perhaps if you are concerned you can get in touch with the Embassy to confirm. We are still flying pretty high. Russell booked his flight last night and we got our get-a-way for Boston sorted as well. I will confirm with the JP tonight about officiating at both of our ceremonies. The first scheduled for October 18th. I can't believe the time has finally come! Russell is like a little boy on Christmas morning all silly and giddy with excitment...it's adorable really. Russell called the Embassy yesterday and they told him they couldn't book k1's on the phone. Well, he emailed after he got off the phone and received an email back right away stating that they had received our petition from the NVC late afternoon the day before and had already sent out the appointment package to him and that his appointment was on the 17th...next Wednesday at 10am!!! That's 6pm Tuesday night for us in the U.S. What a difference from being in the U.S. ...thank goodness for New Zealand! NZ usually takes two days to process the visa but that's without any issues...sadly, we almost expect issues. He plans on flying home the following Wednesday...the 24th. Just hours away from the very day he was denied entry in Dublin last year! Ironic, no? So, in just two weeks, we will have everything we have fought so hard for and waited soooo, soooo many years for! We are riding on a cloud! Just thrilled! Jon, i'd say the Embassy has just not yet processed your petition into their system. I'm sure it wont be much longer for you. You're going to be just fine Gaura. London will be a breeze..try not to stress yourself out too much! They're probably not even going to ask you for more proof of relationship. Keep us posted! We were joking that we should call 5 minutes after it arrived to let them know that "Rona" had signed for it and to see if it was too early to try and schedule his interview. Been watching our package move all night....NH, NY, Ohio...on it's way to LAX. All this movement after so many years... it's better than Christmas! Graham, I thought you were leaving on the 12th?? Was I dreaming that? Sounds like you found a deal on a flight tho! I am the queen of low airfare/hotels (priceline helps ) but you just can't find those deals to/from NZ. It will cost Russell about 1,500 to fly home and that's VERY cheap. In January I paid $2,600 for a r/t ticket. Just having a date has got to feel so good. I'm thrilled for you! I tried several times to call NVC and just got that spanish chick that comes on and lets you know you're going to be sent back to the automated system. So at 10 I tried again while I was talking to Russ and the lady said... "yes, it's been sent out...woooooohoooooo!" ....excited but still wanting to make sure I heard her right I asked her when...she says... "it was sent yesterday wooooooohoooooo" She was so cute and excited for us...was nice. Anyway, it feels like NOA2 all over again and we know it really wont be long now! With my first I was always up at 2am through my pregnancy...turned out that was her time to get up to nurse for a long time after she came into the world. Same thing happened with the 3rd. It's ok by me as the cooler weather only serves to remind me that fall is on it's way and he's still not home! Most people only get held up 2-4 weeks. When i'm running scans and loading software I have a lot of extra time and can post more but last week I was creating graphics and an entire website so it's much better for me if I can just get lost in the coding. The distraction has been nice during this stressful time but there are better ways i'd like to be spending my energy...like finding a way to put Russell's things back into our closet. I am also looking forward to our Fall wedding and our first Christmas together ever! Russell's 30th birthday is also in December (yes, he's a pup ) ...and it will be the first time I truly get to spoil him on his special day. All that is keeping me going! I think you are going to make a wonderful husband. thanks for your kind words. The psychological ramifications of this are incredible. It's a roller coaster for sure...and we are all so different in how we deal. I think i've managed fairly well all things considered for our particular situation. It's just been such a long....loooooong and bumpy road for us. Russell has already given up so much for me...and I for him. I have no concerns about always appreciating that fact and since he's already lived here with us, no concerns about how he'll adjust. The people around me miss him almost as much as I do. AP seems to be between 2-3 months according to current timelines...of course, we all know how that can go. I've heard of people calling the service centers to have it expedited. Since DOS is aware of everything going on I would imagine it's not too difficult to do so. We're not talking the entire package tho. Who knows really. This whole process is such a nightmare. Mama Nich... I did read that but figured if Russell would need it they would have given it to him. I guess if he has to get it here..he has to get it here. Fernanda, i'm glad you are feeling better about HPV. I can't tell you how much it was because it was covered under our insurance plan. It's a series of 3 shots spread out over 6 months and I believe you would have to have a civil surgeon do it. I'm sure they must have 'price lists' for this sort of thing. Perhaps you can find a list of doctor's on the CDC website and could contact them to ask. So, I broke down and called NVC again. (My love is not so patient.) but shhhh Anyway, I explained that our petition had been there almost two weeks and that i've received 2 letters saying it would be sent out and asked what was the hold up, so she checked it out for me. Apparently we are stuck in AP at the NVC. She couldn't tell me why or say how long it would be (of course) but she did tell me that we could have the Consulate contact them via email and request that it be sent to them. So..that's what I did. Here's a list of the security checks they do at each level of the process that I thought was interesting. From other research i've done it seems that some are chosen at random. Just our luck! All I can think is that someone found out that we are trying to expedite it and held it up to be mean. Oh well, hopefully the Consulate wont need it to schedule the interview and, if they do, there's nothing we can do about it....again. Grrrrrrrrrrr this process!!! I want my man!!!!! We've recieved two letters from them stating our case was there..one dated the 20th and one dated the 25th and both saying the same thing. The Embassy has all they need from us. It is quite surreal at this point. Feels so good to know we will be together again very soon...gives me warm fuzzies! Elizabeth, I hope the Consulate is not as difficult as you've heard. There's been much discussion about Ramadan. Seems you may have a point there if it doesn't effect your situation. Hope so! Stephanie, I'm not really sure how Consulates handle missing components from a P3. Do they ask it to be returned with the packet or just to have it for your interview? In NZ, the Consulate does the police check for you. Perhaps you could include a letter stating that you are expecting the police report but wanted to try to expedite the process? So as I stated above, we've received a second letter today from NVC letting us know that our petition was there and that they'd be sending it out in the next week. ...hmm Didn't you say that a week ago??? Hmmmm perhaps they dont do that and it's just been mis-stated on this site as doing so (highly possible ). Just contact the Embassy. Hi Lizzie, apparently there is an 'electronic' version sent over to the Embassy so perhaps that's the discrepency in the dates. Just be honest with the Embassy and tell them you are trying to expedite things. At some Consulates it works if you already have a date in mind. I would imagine with Ramadan starting that lots of people are trying to expedite things. Russell told them of our long term relationship, that we've been apart for a year after living together for some time and that he wanted to do everything he could to expedite the rest of the process. We had already learned that NZ was quite accomodating and have been in touch with the Embassy since before we even filed. I know we will feel much better when we have an interview date as well! As of right now NVC still hasn't even sent out our petition to the Consulate. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Not sure they schedule the interview without the hardcopy of the I797 (approval). I guess we'll see. MnM... this is the same information we all gave you. You must be legally married in the US. Each Country has it's own laws as to what is a legal/not legal ceremony. As stated, many people have non-binding ceremonies in the beneficiary's home Country but, if you do a search here, you will find many people who have had serious issues for doing so....especially at higher fraud posts. It's the interpretation of the ceremony by the CO and unfortunately, not everyone sees it the same. There is a couple here more recently who merely filed for a license before they were to be married and were initially denied at the Consulate simply because of the CO's interpretation. He had to go through hell to get her approved and there was no ceremony of any kind. Just the CO's ignorance held them up for months. I sent everything he needed from me (I134..etc) to him last week. It arrived in NZ this morning (NZ time). So, the only thing missing is the approved petition. We're hoping they wont wait for that to schedule the interview but if they do, it should be there this week. Hoping to expedite his interview for next week. Others going through NZ in the past have had much luck in doing that so we're hopeful. Ok my butt is just killing me and my eyeballs are burning as i've spent the entire day working on a website and writing code. No fun!!! I hope tomorrow brings wonderful news for all!!! I remember the story long ago of one couple who had rings on and referred to each other as husband and wife as they were coming through... yup, bad news. Of course you can come through and travel with her. Going through a post like Pakistan it's probably even advisable to be at, or around, for her interview as well. If the 'ceremony' is not legally binding and she wants to do it for religious purposes only then just wait until after her visa is granted, sign nothing and say nothing about it. Perception and opinion varies greatly and you can easily find yourself in trouble. Especially dealing with a Consulate like Pakistan I would imagine. If your K1 visa is granted... that's to say you have the visa in the passport and ready to go... a ceremony of some kind in another Country is possible BUT it must not be recognized as a binding and legal marriage and I would not breath a word of it to the CO or POE officer...or anybody for that matter. Do not wear rings or refer to each other as husband and wife until you are comfortably inside US borders. You must be married in the U.S. Lots of people have non-binding/legal ceremonies BUT lots of people also have issues after doing so. I'd hate to see that happen to you. Suzy, our case got to the NVC last friday (the 15th) but has yet to leave NVC (as of last night). I got my letter from the NVC dated 8/20 saying it will leave within the week. We'll see. By Monday the Consulate will have Package 3 returned, the medical and Russell should have my package so he'll be ready for his interview... as soon as the petition gets to the Embassy! We're actually hoping that perhaps they'll send him his appointment letter before they get the petition since they really have all they need. Damn we're effecient, eh?
