Mamajew are you getting excited about your interview?

Yes I am getting excited, but nervous at the same time. But I think that is normal!!!

Yes it is, I think I went crazy for a minute because I wasn't nervous about the interview lol... Probably because my fiance went on his own. Who knows, I mightve messed it up for us if I went! So for me it was a blessing in disguise that I didn't go. My fiance handles himself very well thank God!

My fiance really wants me to come to his interview. I really want to be there. But at the same time. it so close to Thanksgiving and I have family obligations on this side of the pond. So if the money pans out and the bills are paid. I might make it for the interview. That will make three times this year. My pocket is starting to feel the pinch. LOL!!1 wow.gif

Girl I understand how you feel. Our interview is on the 17th and I'm not going to be able to go. I really want to but Im gonna trust in God and let my fiance handle it. I know he can do it. I went to JA in Feb. & June and then in Sept. I went to Guyana so I know how the pockets can hurt. LOL...I saw Spirit have their $50OFF coupon so I went to check the price of the ticket ...HA...all they did was jack the damn taxes up.

I have no qualms about appearing as a tourist. I'll go to New Orleans (where I was born & raised) & take pics all over the city. I did that one year and then blew up the 6 I liked most & matted & framed them. Made for a nice collage on the wall.

I think we've all felt that particular pinch.
Remember that if you get married before the end of the year, you can file your taxes as married & get a lot of $$ back @ refund time. I figure that'll reimburse a chunk of the expenses of this process.

Nat that is what I'm planning on doing. We have a date planned for December 15...

Dillon I found the same problem with my step-son. When I was in JA in June we had him for a week. One day we were in the car going to Negril and he was singing Vybz Kartel all day. He already has a problem with his speech so you know singing was wrecking my nerve. My daughters and his dad thought it was funny but I did not. I told him I hope he knows his school work like he knows that song. So I said spelling time. I gave him some spelling words a and was Shock that he could not spell Cat, Mat, Bat, Rat, Sat etc. I ask his dad why he do not know to spell these words and he said his mother sends him to school. Well I said sending him to school is not the problem when he gets home someone needs to check his H/W and give him some spelling test. I am a real stickler for school work. Now I have his dad calling him everyday and giving him spelling test over the phone. I told him when he gets here its going to really different he will have bed time, reading hour and less TV during the week.

Lady C I believe that reading hour is one of the most important things we as parents can implement for our children. There is too much external stimuli like PS3 Games and TV. When I was younger you couldn't get me to put away my books, these days most children don't even want to read which is so sad. I loved that my son's school makes them read 2 books per months ( novels) and book reports on each as a part of the curriculum and final grade and provide incentives as well. I agree the parents need to take responsibility for their child's education 100%

QUOTE (DaDa @ Oct 28 2009, 02:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I’m a stickler for school work too. My kids are not allowed to play their X-box DS or be on the computer unless its school work related during the week. I just think if they know they can play those games they’ll pay less attention to their homework. This year I allowed my 13 year old son to play his game during the week. I’m waiting for the first report period. If his grades have even slightly dropped I’m going back to my old rules. I didn’t want to allow him this new luxury but people were telling me I need to ease up some and let him make responsible choices. I hope for his sake they are right.

Dada you and me both girl I took everything they didn't have a TV until last weekend it was locked up and I'm still not re-connecting the cable box until the weekends! School comes 1st no matter what! I swear those games are like crack they become addicted and go through withdrawals I believe its a real disorder LOL Well I am anxious to hear how that works out for you this marking period cause every time I ease up with my boys they always take advantage headbonk.gif

G wants to get his son a PSP for christmas and I said all he is getting is some books and a damn Leap Frog to help him read. He does'nt understand why im so tuff. When my girls were little there was no watching TV until Friday afternoon and then off it gones sunday evening. But all H/W had to be done and they still had to read on the weekends. My kids told his son that when he gets here he will see how tuff i am.

We just found out on Monday Finesse so I have made an appointment with an audiologist. His teacher is great and is really helping out any way he can as well. He told me that he got sick in Jamaica with the flu or some type of sickness and his ears plugged up and never unplugged. So maybe if he gets tubes or something some of the hearing can come back. We will have to see what the doctor says.

may just be an easy fix then....

question (not directed at dillon)....where are the good schools in jamaica? everyone on this board who has commented about a stepchilds progress has stated that they are academically behind...what is the reason for this?

This is how I was raised too

Sometimes its not the school. Its the parents and the rules they set. Evrybody thinks its cute when the child knows all the dutty songs dem.

I know I haven't posted much lately so let me tell you what is going on in my world.

Things have been going pretty good at home with everyone getting along. Every now and then someones feelings get hurt because they aren't getting enough attention but it is a quick fix.

My step-son has been having problems adjusting to school and his school work. He is very far behind in his reading, writing and math skills which came to a shock to me. He is in 4th grade but reading at a 2nd grade level. The school he is in now tested his hearing and come to find out he has some hearing loss and is having problems hearing. He has said that it has been going on for at least a year and the loss is in both ears. His mother thought that there was nothing seriously wrong since he stopped complaining about it. headbonk.gif So we have a long road ahead of us with getting him caught up. He is getting extra help in school and we work with him as much as we can at home and he has a great attitude towards learning.

I was just shocked that his school doesn't do hearing tests like they do here...maybe some of the hearing loss could have been prevented if they did.

No Sus he will follow later. I want Garfield to get adjusted first.

Depends on how much time you want - the most sensible way is to go through all the motions at the same time. Fill out the DS156 & 156k (if I remember correctly the 157 is only for the fiance, not the child) and have him interview along with his father. Once the visa is issued, he has 6 months to use it.

However, if you have added him to the 129F, but chose not to have him interview at this time you have 1 year to go through the interview steps for him and get him a visa at that time.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Island it does. I want to go through it all at once
