US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo you wear your engagement ring to the interview?
Hi!

I'm wearing my engagement ring in several pictures and it looks like a wedding ring. No problems. But yeah, a male engagement ring is a little weird. I don't know anyone who has done it...

Good luck!

Hello,
We are on the last part of applying for our visa. My fiance has recieved the packet and called the Doctor for an appointment. There are to be three Doctor's that are approved for this process, however one is traveling and the other two are not available until June 4th. Our Interview is for June 5th and we would prefer not to wait until the last moment. Does anyone have info on the Doctor's available for this process in Peru. I am planning on callling the Embassy tomorrow to ask about. I tried to call today but I called at the wrong time. Thanks for any help

Those are the only approved doctors... I don't know that you have any other option besides waiting til 6/4. Good luck!

Sorry I don't have any better news...

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion to naturalized citizens
QUOTE (nm123 @ Jun 27 2008, 09:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everyone,

I've received my NOA2 so I'm getting my documents ready for my fiance's visa interview. I'm a naturalized citizen and was wondering about those of you who are also naturalized. I'm going to have my fiance hold on to my citizenship certificate, a copy of all the pages of my passport, and a copy of my birth certificate (it's the short version and a long version isn't available). If you were also naturalized, did you present a certified copy of your birth certificate?

Also, does the certified opy of the birth certificate need to be less than 6 months old?

Thanks!
nm

Hi! I'm also a naturalized citizen.

I sent a copy of my naturalization certificate, and a copy of my passport. That's it. I also went to the interview and I had my passport and that was it. I did NOT, repeat NOT, bring my naturalization paper. If you lose it, it takes over a year to get a new one. There's no way that I would send that through the mail or DHL or anything else...

I didn't bother with my birth certificate, as it was in German with my birth name on it. My name was changed when I was adopted and brought to the States. Too much work. This was not an issue in any way.

The copy of your passport and/or naturalization certificate should I be enough. The American Embassy in your fiance's country couldn't possibly really expect you to send originals of those two items to your fiance! That would be craziness! The papers are too valuable.

Saludos, Shannon

Hi Jacky again!

Here's what you should be working on in Peru... This is what David brought with him to the interview...

KEY: * = they did not ask for or did not want at the interview itself

OF-156K
datos biográficos (we sent it in per the directions and they wanted it again at the interview; thank god we had another copy)
interview appt letter
pasaporte
certificado de nacimiento, legalizado por la RENIEC
certificado de policía
certificado de penales
certificado de judicales
libreta militar *
2 fotos nuevas - glued onto the ds-156
cualquiera evidencia that he had *
examen médico
he needed to sign the papers that I brought; couldn't sign some of them until he was in the presence of the consulate officer
pay for the tariff - receipt needed!

Don't bother sending in the datos biográficos early, like the packet 3 says when you get it. We did that and then they wanted it again at the interview.

Here's what your fiance should be working on in the States; this is what I brought with me to the interview...

ds-156 - 2 copies for them to keep
ds-157
ds-156k English version that I got online * they only wanted the Spanish one that was sent to David
ds-230 parts 1 & 2 *
I-134 (there's a 3rd page in the packet 3 that I also signed and had notarized; have no idea if I needed to or not, but I did) - notarized
- tax transcripts * - originals
- stocks and bonds papers - copies
- retirement info (2) - copies
- letter from bank - original
- pay stubs - copies
- 2007 taxes - copy; including W-2s
- 2005-2006 taxes - copies, including W-2s
- employer letter - original
copy of I-129F originally sent *
original evidence = phone evidence, receipts from trips (air, hotel, bus, tourism, food, phone cards) *
more phone records * - I had copies for them to keep and originals with me
more emails * - I had copies for them to keep and originals with me
more pics * - I had originals for them to keep
new letters of intent * - originals
NOA1, NOA2 * - I had copies for them to keep and originals
passport *
electronic ticket *

Don't forget to make copies of EVERYTHING that you could hand over if you don't already have copies of those articles!

I hope this helps whoever is coming up next for the interview! Obviously at the interview they can ask for things that they didn't ask me for. I'm just writing what my experience was... The DS-230 was absolutely not needed, however.

Also, please keep in mind that some of these things are specific to the fact that David is a guy and he needed to do a couple of extra papers due to that fact. Also, in some cases it was easier for me to fill in the papers and have David sign them when I got to Peru.

Here's a link too, to an old link that I made for help...

You can pick which doctor you go to, Prices are a little different and availability dates are different. Isa went to Dr. Nora Lari and your fiance will want to schedule as soon as possible. I think Isa had all of the vacinations because she hadn't had any since she was a baby.

do you remember the total cost for all vaccinations? My wife cannot find any of her vaccination records, thus she will need all shots. How many days did it take to get all the shots applied?

Hi! It all seems to depend on who you go to... There were several extensive discussions on doctors from March - May. You may want to look in the portal section and find them that way (specific to Lima).

And the guys seem to pay less than the girls due to one specific shot...

Hope this helps!

Absolutely wait for the medical exam. When he gets his packet 3, it's discussed in there, if I remember correctly, that he should get them done there (at the exam).

We wanted to get ours done somewhere else too (to save money), and we didn't due to the directions.

Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCalling The Embassy - Lima, Peru
QUOTE (msmuth @ Aug 1 2008, 09:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Has anyone been successful in talking to a person when calling the embassy in Lima, Peru?
If so, what phone number did you call?
What options did you press for the automated process?
What time of day did you call?
What day of the week did you call?
Did you call during the hours for an Immigrant or Non-Immigrant Visa?

I am trying to talk to a person at the embassy to find out 2 things in regards to a K1 I-129F:
1. Have the papers from the NVC been received.
2. What is the scheduled interview date.

I know that on the Embassy website it says:
Immigrant Visa Unit (Permanent Residency):
Phone hours: Monday to Friday 2-3 p.m.
Phone: (51-1) 434-3000

Non-Immigrant Visa Unit (Visitor Visas):
Phone hours: Monday to Friday 3-4 p.m.
Phone: (51-1) 434-3000

Thank you for any help.

Hi! David tried to call once during the appropriate time, 3-4, as technically the K-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa. When he called, they said that he needed to call between 2-3 because the goal was to eventually to become a permanent resident.

So, the next day he tried calling between 2-3 and he was put on hold almost the entire time and then the hour was up at 3. They said to call back the next day between 2-3 again.

We did not bother trying to call again during the process. He was infuriated.

Read here too: Affidavit of Support Tips

To answer your question about the affidavit of support, only the USC has to prove he/she meets the required income to sponsor the foreign fiance. Your financial situation, as the foreign fiance, wont be taken into consideration.

You may also want to read the instructions on the I-134 form, you'll find a link to it on the same link I provided above.

I read it has to be Notarized. Right? How much does it cost to get this notarized on average? He doesn't have to much time to be leaving work and the more information I can give him on this the better.

Getting the I-134 notarized is cheap. I went to my bank and had it done for free as it is a credit union. You never know, there may be a notary in your/his place of employment. (I'm sorry, but I can't remember who is the USC.) And it should be cheap, regardless.

4. Track by Reference
5. Reference: (aqui se coloca las siguientes palabras: EXP (01 ... 31) (JAN...JUN) 2007A, CYCLE (01...) 2007

Nydia.
