US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWow, Is this TRUE?
Being a female hopefully it won't take so long but be prepared for the worst. anywhere from 3 months to 3 years.

My fiance interviewed in Ankara three times, First interview they asked him three questions, lasted three minutes. Second time he just turned in his passport, waited a week and no visa, third time like two questions.

He did say they were very rude, he saw one man tear up a lady's paperwork because it was wrong, he waited like all day. So be prepared.

Overall good luck and the process will end soon. We just celebrated our one year anniversary

its not that big of a deal as long as you meet the financial guidlines..ie 125% of poverty level...

Personally I just sent 3 years of 1040s and recent employment verification letter(provided by my HR dept.) and some recent paystubs..

took me just a few days to get all of this together...

You should IMHO work on your proofs of an ongoing relationship more for now... save everything that puts you 2 together..

I do pray daily for everyone going through the immigration process at Islamabad. I am concerned since they say the case is pending and yet they said if you got the passport back they would close the case. Have you called DOS? I would call DOS and just ask for information on your case? Ask them the status of ISL200XXXXXXXXXXX? If they say in AP ask them when was the last time any updates? I know if you travel outside of your country when in AP it automatically makes the information that you provided at the time of the interview obsolete. So the checks that were done are not valid anymore. This is why I say do not travel with a passport while in AP.

Good luck dear and I am so sorry that you are waiting this long.

If you list a property: Appraisal AND mortgage or land contract
Bank Statements for a couple of months

Hello,

Please take a look at the link below for the embassy. You will need to call the number they provide and they will give you a email code that is good for one week to make inquaries about your case. From what I've heard they will not answer questions on the phone.

I sent documents once by ups and it was slow and expensive. The next time I sent documents she found a place I could fax them to her and I went to the UPS Store and faxed them. It was cheap and she had them in minutes. I know this will not work for anything that has to have your original signature but it works well for other documents. I filled out her forms for her and faxed them and all she needed to do was sign them. Hope this helps, good luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAre there a lot of people who also get denied on k1 visa?
QUOTE (2ond journey @ Jul 1 2008, 11:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think its easier for the embassy to deny a K-1 then cr-1 because it cant come back to them. The service center usually doesn't review it like they are suppose to because the k-1 expires. They just to tell you , you can refile.

In marriage visa i think they just keep you in a.p for a long time if they don't believe the relationship is real rather then returning it. Go through this security check then when its cleared put you through another and then another. Then when the security check expires they say you need to get this one again. Need to get medical again because that expired. It a game they play if you ask me. Until you give up. Name hits may be a different story. Thats just opinion.

The soft hit indicates possible fraud or deception, and a hard hit means it is documented or witnessed, I think. The hit can be taken out, but only by the same officer or his/her superior. It is in the State Department computer system by name and passport number apparently. It will kill a K-1 every time. So if a K-1 is turned down because of suspected fraud or anything that sounds criminal, ask if there is a hit in the system before applying again. Then get the hit sorted first.
Brad and VikaMaleUkraine2008-07-04 00:20:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAre there a lot of people who also get denied on k1 visa?
Yes, but it may be a waste of time. The Vice Consul in Minsk told me that years ago. Once a consular officer decides that there is fraud or deception going on, there is a presumption that there is some kind of criminal motive (i.e. prostitution or smuggling). They put a "soft hit" or "hard hit" in the system and a code number on the stamp in the applicants passport. Once that happens you can apply all you want and the turn down is automatic. I have seen this over the years with tourist visa requests from Eastern Europeans.

Dr. Bill
there are ways to reschedule your tickets if you must, it usually cost a small fee but shouldn't be a problem. either through the airlines or travelers insurance.....

Generally true, but during the summer tourist season in Europe the flights may be sold out. Since fuel prices have doubled on the airlines in the past year, they have been using smaller planes to make the transatlantic, and everything is pretty tight through mid-September. So you could pay the $200 change fee and have to fly weeks later.

My thought also, I will take any opportunity to go and see Vika. We discussed it, and I will try to get there immediately before the interview. We will have the passport sent to her cousin's apartment in Kiev (probably), and fly back directly. I was thrilled when she suggested that. She will take some extra time during the month before to visit relatives in other cities and say goodbye, with the understanding that it all depends on approval. I think the gamble on tickets is a good one. Best of luck to you!!!

I am sure this question has been asked before. I am planning to fly to Kiev to attend Vika's interview, that I hope will happen early next year. It looks like they will not provide the visa to you directly, and will only mail it back to her. So there appears to be NO CHANCE that I can take her back with me after the interview. Her English is pretty good, and she can definitely make it through the airports to fly to me later, and I don't think I can turn around and fly back to bring her home as I would like.

I see many posts here where the fiance' attends the visa interview alone and everything works out. How much will my attending the interview influence the consular officer?

Thanks

After the interview the visa will typically arrive 3-7 days later. It appears they "batch" the printing and assembly of the "MBE" to a single or maybe a couple days a week. It is all about timing. If you are fortunate to interview and the next day is "assembly" day you could get it in 3 days... If you interview on or a day after "assembly" day and dependant on where the weekend falls it could be more like 7 days. I certainly would not book tickets that tightly....

In Kiev, if you have done your homework and your paperwork is complete and organized and assuming you have the evidence and financial means required I see no advantage to being there. I wasn't and my wife was prepared and she was asked zero questions.

Most people who have issues is solely the result of arriving unprepared. Kiev is a good consulate but in this regard the consulate is unforgiving.

Point taken. She asked me to attend because of her nervousness about the process. At worst it looks like my presence won't hurt our chances any.

Well, my fiance's presence at interview helped me a lot: 1.I was nervous like hell and he helped me to calm down. 2. consul didn't ask me ANY question, just exchanged few words with Glen ("Oh, you're from MA? I am originally from Connecticut, miss home blah blah"). BUT when i was interviewed, few girls were interviewed little earlier and right after me.. alone. and they all got visas
But you really can take Vika back with you (assuming that she will get a visa) if you plan an interview on the beginning of your trip. Glen came to Ukraine for 9 days, and our interview took place on the second day of his presence, and i got my visa few days before he left, so i could just leave with him. It IS possible. Even Consul told us "If you guys plan to go to America together, you can pay some more to FedEx and they'll deliver your visa faster" smile.gif
BTW, i flew to USA by myself, it's not that scary, especially if you have enough time between connection flights. I flew through Zürich, i liked it very much-quiet, safe, nice people around.. was afraid to fly through Paris...
Good luck!

One issue we have is that Vika is from Kherson, so we would have to go back to Kherson to get the visa, then fly out of Odessa. Is there any way to get the visa delivered in Kiev, or pick it up at the embassy? I guess I also assumed that Vika would want to say goodbye to her friends and family back home. Her parents could join us if we left from Kiev, and she has relatives there too. Culturally speaking, there seems to be a great tendency to hold impromptu celebrations and gatherings. I would hate for her to miss any of those at work, etc. if her colleagues want to give her a send off. Of course this is all VERY premature, given our timeline.

I know several couples that went through the whole process without lawyers and made it. It is possible, and I am doing it too. I also work with law firms from time to time, and attorneys have told me that they definitely use voicemail and secretarys to blunt the effect of "panicky clients" - meaning any one who thinks their question is urgent. As a rule they are terribly cynical, and really don't care about the urgency you feel.

It seems to depend on what day(s) the embassy produces the visas. I have read two or three different versions of the schedule for Kiev, but on a certain day of the week they put visas into passportds and send them out. You can save a day or two by picking up in Kiev. Congrats, and good luck on the interview.
