US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3 - Ankara
Best thing I can say is visit the website for the Ankara embassy. They list very specifically what you need to submit prior to the interview and what to bring with you. Be prepared for AP it is pretty standard.
Also we never received a packet from them we just downloaded everything from the website. His interview "letter" was an email, he never received a letter.

What you paid was the fee for the petition. She still has to pay the fee for the visa application. They are two different things.

Depends on sex, name, prior travel, and other factors. It can last anywhere from a few days to months.

First welcome to being a male from a "T" country in the aftermath of 9/11. Administrative processing is required for you and any other male from a "T" country who is between certain ages. They have to wait until after the interview because they need your fingerprints and all sorts of information from you.

I wish I had good news for you but I don't believe in giving false hope, so, it can take anywhere from one week to years. Hopefully it will go fast.

The good news is YOU HAVE NOT BEEN DENIED THE VISA, unless of course something really bad comes up in the background checks.

Hang in there and I will pray for you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support Question
It's been a couple of years but I think I only had him take my last year's tax return along with some pay stubs and a letter from my employer. For you this would be a few months of LES's and maybe a letter from the 1st Sgt or re-enlistment Sgt. stating your rank, time in service, and expiration of your contract. Wouldn't hurt to have the prior years tax return also.

Sorry to say but no. AP takes as long as AP takes and nothing can speed it up. I suggest you find a good hobby or a friend who is a good listener.
Hoping you hear something soon.

AP for someone from Iran is not unusual. Hopefully you will hear something soon and be united with your SO. Good luck and hang in there. Also after about two weeks you can call DOS and try to get an update.

And even if the embassy accepts the 100% level when she arrives and you file for AOS you must show at least 125% the poverty level for the I-864 so unless you see a sudden upturn in your income or assets in the next 6-9 months you will require a co-sponsor before she can apply for her green card.

Never, ever purchase a plane ticket until the visa is in hand-----unless you can change the dates for a reasonable fee. Nothing is guaranteed when dealing with the US government.

Try downloading all the forms from USCIS. We went through Ankara but they never mailed the forms. Once the packet was sent in they scheduled the interview. Have you checked the embassy website for instructions?

Sorry for the problems.

1. No, you entered on the K-1 to obtain a different kind of visa you would have to return home.
2. No.
3. Not certain but probably not.
4. If he doesn't marry you prior to the expiration of the I-94 you will have to leave the US.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionwhy pakistani govt is unable to speak..
It's not just Pakistan it's all the countries. Part of the problem is some countries use different alphabets so when the name is "translated" to the English alphabet all variations have to be considered. Look at the various spellings of Osama bin Laden for an example of this. A lot of the names are common, rather than having to sift through 20 John Smiths, they are having to sift through 300,.000 Mohammadis, and not all countries have high tech ways to disseminate information, they may have to go to a hospital that burned down so all the records were lost, then have to interview the nurse who worked there to obtain the information. Or maybe the paper they need is lost in an office basement filed in the wrong place.

Hang in there and don't feel discriminated against (unless you are a male Muslim) AP will end eventually and the wait will be worth it.

First you would need to obtain the documents regarding the misrepresentation. Was it more of a misunderstanding or a blatant misrep? This would determine whether you even have a chance.

They wouldn't be calling and asking for a new medical if his AP was not complete. Now they will run one last check prior to printing the visa and if something new comes up there may be a delay.

You will probably have to go to the embassy when the AP is complete, which sounds like it will be soon, as your visa application is only good for one year. Hopefully they will contact you in a week or two.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDid VO mess up?

Did you get a 221g? It is very unusual for it to be sent after the interview. Usually they say you have been approved or we cannot finish processing your visa at this time and hand you a piece of paper. Very rarely have I seen where the embassy contacted the intending immigrant later and asked for more documentation.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! IM SOOOOOO SAD!!!!!!!!

I told my fiancé about my past in vague terms. He still doesn't really understand and he has lived here almost six years. He was asked about it during the interview and again at CBP when he arrived with his visa. I can understand how 1. it was a long time ago and you are no longer that person and 2. It's not something you just bring up in the conversation.  Do what you need to do to get this resolved so you can keep moving forward.

Just a note to the people who won't let the past go, I am a convicted felon who can't find a decent job although it has been more than 10 years since I paid my penalty for my errors. This is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life and will prevent me from ever obtaining real employment. Instead of looking at the mistakes a person made, give them the ability to move forward and make themselves a better person. Judge a person on who they are now, not who they were 10 or 20 years ago.

Whoa slow down. She has to have been an LPR for three years before she is eligible (based upon her marriage to you) and you state her date is 09/10/09....that makes it less than two years. Perhaps I was unclear.
belinda63FemaleIran2011-04-17 04:11:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionRelocating to Thailand- Perm. Res. card 9-10-09
To obtain her citizenship she must be an LPR for 5 years or married to a the same US citizen for three years as an LPR. Also (only the relevant part copied)..

Have continuous residence in the United States as a lawful permanent resident for at least 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application

Reside continuously within the United States from the date of application for naturalization until the time of naturalization

Be physically present in the United States for at least 18 months out of the 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application
Source

To keep her green card she must reside primarily in the US and file US taxes.

US Citizenship General DiscussionMy friend's daughter had Naturalization denied
Looks like she applied too early, just as they said. You can apply up to 90 days prior to the five year anniversary of becoming an LPR. That would have been 90 days prior to Sept. 24, 2012. She just needs to reapply as she is now inside the 90 day window.
belinda63FemaleIran2012-08-15 15:26:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship question
If your immigrant visa is approved you will receive your green card a few weeks after arriving in the US. If, on the date you arrived in the US, you have been married less than 2 years you will receive a conditional green card good for 2 years. If you were married for more than 2 years you will receive the 10 year green card.
If you receive the 2 year green card you must file to "remove conditions" no later than the expiration date and no sooner than 90 days prior to the expiration date. At that time, if successful, you will receive a 10 year green card.
You will be eligible to apply for citizenship after you have been a green card holder for three years minus 90 days (see the resident since date on the green card) provided you are still married to the person who petitioned you. Very important to note, your eligibility to apply for citizenship is not based on the length of your marriage but upon the time you have been a permanent resident.

Best bet is to check with your local post office. I think it is one passport photo and around $135. The post office might be able to take the photo there or just bring one with you. They will send it all in and you will be mailed the passport. Congrats to you.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion about Marriage to an illegal immigrant
I have not married someone who was here illegally, but I can tell you that it is a long process, especially with someone from Mexico. They will have to file for a visa just like everyone else. The difference will be at the interview they will have to submit a waiver. I am not sure about the wait time for a waiver now but it was up to about 12 months. During this time he will have to remain in mexico and wait.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuestion about application
Maybe this has already been posted in this thread several times or maybe this is silly but I am not sure so I thought I would ask anyways. We can apply for citizenship tomorrow. Needless to say we werent very good about getting things ready in advance. So my question is

Do we have to put all the info for the last 5 years or when we are putting where he has worked or lived do we just put for 3 years since we are applying in just 3 years due to the fact that we are married?

Thanks everyone

US Citizenship General DiscussionIs this normal?
My husband just passed his 3 year residency mark this month. We didn't apply 90 days before the three year mark, we sent our application on Jan 12. We got our NOA on Jan 21st. I was getting kind of ansy because we hadn't received a biometrics appt. yet. Today setting in the mailbox I found a letter. i opened it and was surprised to see that it is an interview letter. We have an appt March 23rd. Is this normal to not have biometrics? We did just have them done last Feb. Is this why?

Ok guys, my husband passed through the interview today. His appt. was at 1:30 and he was walking back to the car at 2"05 when he called. He said they asked him 6 questions. I am assuming since he got the first 6 correct he didnt have to answer anymore. He also had to read a passage. They asked him to review the app and check for descrepencies.

He got a paper saying that he would be reccmoended for citizenship and that he would be receiving info about his oath ceremony. If you all have more specific questions just post them.
